The mid-Cretaceous Langshan Formation, which crops out on the north Lhasa subterrane, central Tibet, is composed of a thick carbonate sequence with local volcanic rock and sandstone interlayers. In this study, we present data from the Asuo area, including fossil assemblages within carbonates, detrital zircon U–Pb ages of sandstone interlayers, zircon U–Pb ages and whole-rock geochemistry of andesite interlayers within the Langshan Formation to provide new constraints on the tectonic evolution of north Lhasa subterrane. The fossil assemblage indicates that the Langshan Formation was deposited on a carbonate platform at water depths of approximately 0–50 m during the late Albian to early Cenomanian period. The volcanic rock interlayers (111–109 Ma) primarily consist of high-K calc-alkaline andesites/dacites (SiO2: 56.48–67.03 wt. %; Mg#: 42.5–58.9). These andesites exhibit limited evidence of significant modification by crustal contamination. The high Mg# values and arc-like trace element signatures suggest that the andesites may have resulted from partial melting of the mantle wedge induced by fluids derived from a subducted slab. Furthermore, the lithic fragments within the sandstone interlayers predominantly exhibit characteristics of "recycled orogen" and "arc orogen," indicating that the sandstone was derived from recycled ancient strata and a few magmatic arc materials. Considering the regional paleogeographic context, the carbonate accumulation of the Langshan Formation appears to have occurred nearly simultaneously with a period of high-flux magmatism, long-term slow tectonic subsidence, and the closure of the Meso-Tethys Ocean. The arc–arc "soft" collision provides a plausible mechanism to explain the widespread and rapid accumulation of thick carbonates in collision settings. The Palawan microcontinental block is thought to have separated from the South China margin due to seafloor spreading and opening of the South China Sea. However, it is uncertain when and from which section the Palawan microcontinental block rifted from the South China margin and little is known about sediment routing across the rifted margin before continental breakup. To address these aspects, we studied the biostratigraphy and provenance of syn‐rift sedimentary rocks collected from the Panas‐Pandian Formation in central‐southern Palawan. Micropaleontological evidence indicates a Middle Eocene‐earliest Oligocene (47.7–32.9 Ma) age for the Panas‐Pandian Formation. Based on this and the oldest age of the post‐rift Nido Limestone (∼32 Ma), the breakup unconformity on the Palawan microcontinent block is dated around 33–32 Ma. This timing of breakup unconformity is close to that of the Pearl River Mouth Basin (∼30 Ma) and IODP Site U1435 (∼34 Ma), suggesting a conjugate relationship between the Palawan microcontinental block and the Pearl River Mouth Basin. Trace fossils and benthic foraminifera from the Panas‐Pandian Formation indicate a middle bathyal to abyssal environment on the continental slope of the South China margin. Multidisciplinary provenance analysis reveals that the Panas‐Pandian Formation was derived from both local Mesozoic basement uplifts and the interior Cathaysia Block. It indicates that a paleo‐Pearl River has been established at least since the Middle Eocene (47.7–42.1 Ma) and could deliver sediments from the interior Cathaysia Block to the continental slope, across the wide rifted margin with a low topographic gradient. To determine the Late Palaeozoic evolution of the Lhasa terrane, we report the results of field mapping, petrological and fossil investigations, and U–Pb dating of detrital zircon grains (n = 474) from lower-greenschist-facies clastic rocks of the Lagar Formation in the Baruo area, Tibet. Our results indicate that the Lagar Formation was deposited during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian in a shallow-marine environment on the northern margin of Gondwana. Glacial marine diamictites are common within the Lagar Formation and record glaciation of Gondwana during the Late Palaeozoic. Moreover, the detrital materials of the Lagar formation originated mostly from the collision orogenic belt. The ages of detrital zircon grains from the Lagar Formation make up five main groups with ages of 410–540 Ma, 550–650 Ma, 800–1100 Ma, 1600–1800 Ma, and 2300–2500 Ma, which display three characteristic age peaks at ~1150, 2390 and 2648 Ma. We tentatively suggest that the Lhasa terrane was a shallow-marine basin under the influence of the Gondwanan glaciation during the Late Carboniferous–Early Permian. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present our new investigation into the depositional environment and provenance of the Yingshuiquan Formation in the central Qiangtang region of northern Tibet, in order to further our understanding of the environment of the Longmu Co-Shuanghu Palaeo-Tethys during the Early Triassic. The Yingshuiquan Formation is composed of oolitic limestone, calcareous sandstone, calcarenite, thin-bedded ribbon limestone, bioclastic limestone, and coarse oolite limestone that were deposited in a shallow-marine basin and contain abundant Lower Triassic conodont fossils (e.g. Hadrodontina anceps, Pachycladina sp., gen. et sp, Pachyclaina oblique, Hibbardelloides sp). We selected detrital zircons from four calcareous sandstone samples for U-Pb dating, yielding minimum age peaks of 263, 269, 275, and 280 Ma, respectively, and a minimum age of 249 Ma, based on several zircons around the same age. Analysis of the conodont biofacies and zircon LA-ICP-MS dating of calcareous sandstone indicates that the data is consistent with deposition in the Early Triassic. The Yingshuiquan Formation records Early Triassic shallow-water sediment in the Longmu Co-Shuanghu Palaeo-Tethys, and has a Southern Qiangtang and Northern Qiangtang terranes provenance. During the Early Triassic, the carbonate sediments of the Yingshuiquan Formation were deposited in an active environment around the Longmu Co-Shuanghu Palaeo-Tethys, which has became a residual sea basin.
