Heavy metal pollution in agricultural soil is a threat to people's health and sustainable development. However, there is currently no nationwide health risk assessment in China. In this study, we performed a preliminary assessment of heavy metals in agricultural soils of the Chinese mainland, and found obvious carcinogenic risks (total lifetime carcinogenic risk (TLCR) > 1 × 10–5). A similar spatial distribution pattern was found in soil heavy metal and the mortality of esophagus and stomach cancers. Combining the potential carcinogenic risk assessed by LCR for individual heavy metal with Pearson correlation, Geographical Detector (q statistic > 0.75 for TLCR, p < 0.05), and redundancy analysis (RDA), it was found that long-term exposure and intake route of heavy metals exceeding the maximum safety threshold (Health Canada standard) may induce digestive system (esophagus, stomach, liver, and colorectum) cancers in rural populations. Through Partial Least Squares Path Model (PLS-PM), it was also revealed that the LCR of heavy metals was closely related to the soil environmental background (path coefficients = 0.82), which in turn was affected by factors such as economic development and pollution discharge. The current research results highlight the potential carcinogenic risk to the digestive system associated with low-dose and long-term exposure to heavy metals in agricultural soils, and policymakers should propose countermeasures and solutions according to the local conditions. Aim: To investigate the impact of socio‐demographic factors and job stressors on the emotional intelligence of psychiatric nurses. Background: Emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in enabling nurses to effectively manage their own emotions, comprehend the emotions of others and assist individuals in dealing with diverse stressors. Nevertheless, a comprehensive conceptualization of the relationship between job stressors and emotional intelligence remains lacking. Design: This study employs a multi‐centre cross‐sectional design. Methods: A multi‐centre cross‐sectional survey involving 1083 registered nurses from 11 psychiatric hospitals across four provinces in China was conducted. Non‐probability sampling was utilised. The survey encompassed assessments of nurse job stressors, emotional intelligence using a scale and socio‐demographic characteristics using a questionnaire. A multiple linear regression model was applied to identify significant variables associated with emotional intelligence based on demographic attributes and various nurse job stressors. The study adhered to the STROBE checklist. Results: The findings revealed a noteworthy negative correlation between nurse job stressors and emotional intelligence. Socio‐demographic factors and job stressors of certain nurses were able to predict emotional intelligence and its dimensions among psychiatric nurses, with percentages of 44.50%, 40.10%, 36.40%, 36.60% and 34.60%. Conclusion: Providing emotional intelligence training for psychiatric nurses could enhance their capacity to cope effectively with workplace stress, particularly among younger nurses who engage in limited physical activities. Relevance to Clinical Practice: The analysis of the relationship between emotional intelligence and nurse job stressors could facilitate early detection and intervention by managers based on pertinent factors. Landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM) is significant for landslide risk assessment. However, there remains no consensus on which method is optimal for LSM. This study implements a dynamic approach to landslide hazard mapping by integrating spatio-temporal probability analysis with time-varying ground deformation velocity derived from the MT-InSAR (Multi-Temporal InSAR) method. Reliable landslide susceptibility maps (LSMs) can inform landslide risk managers and government officials. First, sixteen factors were selected to construct a causal factor system for LSM. Next, Pearson correlation analysis, multicollinearity analysis, information gain ratio, and GeoDetector methods were applied to remove the least important factors of STI, plan curvature, TRI, and slope length. Subsequently, information quantity (IQ), logistic regression (LR), frequency ratio (FR), artificial neural network (ANN), random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and convolutional neural network (CNN) methods were performed to construct the LSM. The results showed that the distance to a river, slope angle, distance from structure, and engineering geological rock group were the main factors controlling landslide development. A comprehensive set of statistical indicators was employed to evaluate these methods' effectiveness; sensitivity, F1-measure, and AUC (area under the curve) were calculated and subsequently compared to assess the performance of the methods. Machine learning methods' training and prediction accuracy were higher than those of statistical methods. The AUC values of the IQ, FR, LR, BP-ANN, RBF-ANN, RF, SVM, and CNN methods were 0.810, 0.854, 0.828, 0.895, 0.916, 0.932, 0.948, and 0.957, respectively. Although the performance order varied for other statistical indicators, overall, the CNN method was the best, while the BP-ANN and RBF-ANN method was the worst among the five examined machine methods. Hence, adopting the CNN approach in this study can enhance LSM accuracy, catering to the needs of planners and government agencies responsible for managing landslide-prone areas and preventing landslide-induced disasters. Background: Surgery, as one of the main diagnostic and treatment methods, is a routine work in medical settings. Patients undergoing surgery often experience acute procedure anxiety due to uncertainty. There is ample evidence showing that uncertainty is a risk factor for the acute procedure anxiety in surgical patients. However, little is known about the psychological processes mediating this relationship. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate resilience as a mediator of the association between uncertainty and anxiety. Methods: A population-based cross-sectional survey with a convenience sampling method was conducted, involving 243 surgical patients in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province of China was carried out. Relevant data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires, including demographic characteristics questionnaire, Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS-C), Mishel's Illness Uncertainty Scale (MUIS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Pearson correlation analysis was employed to examine correlations between various variables. A path model was used to assess the mediation effect of resilience with respect to uncertainty and acute procedure anxiety. Results: In the path model, uncertainty have an indirect effect on acute procedure anxiety through resilience. The results suggest that resilience has a mediating role in uncertainty and acute procedure anxiety among surgical patients. Conclusions: These findings call for the development of interventions targeting the role of resilience in effectively predicting and preventing acute procedure anxiety and uncertainty among surgical patients. Objective. This study aimed to evaluate conjunctival vessels in patients with dry eye disease (DED) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods. This was a cross-sectional, observational clinical study. Twenty-three eyes of 18 patients with DED and 28 eyes of 23 healthy controls were included for examination in this study. The evaluation included the application of an Ocular Surface Disease Index Questionnaire, Schirmer Basic Secretion Test, and anterior OCTA targeting the temporal conjunctiva. AngioTool software was used to quantify the total vessel length and vessel density in the 3 × 3 mm temporal region of interest. Results. Blood vessel density measurements were compared across the OCTA systems. The total vessel length within the conjunctiva of the DED group (4799.34 ± 834.36) exceeded that of the control eye (3864.89 ± 1455.70) group (P < 0.05). However, the difference in vessel density between the two groups was not statistically significant. Conclusion. Measurement and analysis of conjunctival blood vessels using OCTA exhibited robust repeatability. In dry eyes, the total number of conjunctival blood vessels increased in accordance with disease severity. Hypoxia of conjunctival tissue may be an important cause of dry eye disease. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the associations between perfectionism and undergraduate nursing students' academic procrastination, the mediating effects of self‐efficacy and the moderating role of resilience. Design: A cross‐sectional survey. Methods: The survey was conducted from March to May 2022 with a sample of 587 undergraduate nursing students in two undergraduate universities in China. A descriptive statistical approach, Pearson's correlation analysis and the Hayes' PROCESS Macro model 4 and 14 were used to analyse the available data. Results: Adaptive perfectionism and maladaptive perfectionism negatively and positively predicted academic procrastination in nursing undergraduates, respectively. Self‐efficacy played a partially mediating role in the association between adaptive perfectionism and academic procrastination. Furthermore, resilience played a moderating role in the association between adaptive perfectionism and academic procrastination. Conclusions: Maladaptive perfectionism and low levels of resilience and self‐efficacy may increase the risk of academic procrastination among nursing undergraduates. Nursing educators can take measures to decrease the risk of academic procrastination among nursing undergraduate students by guiding them to cultivate adaptive perfectionism tendencies and improve their self‐efficacy and resilience. Impact: The findings of this study can be used to develop targeted coping and prevention measures for nursing educators to reduce the incidence of academic procrastination among nursing undergraduates. Macrolithotypes control the non-homogeneity of coal reservoirs, and it is important to grasp their distribution patterns for the exploration and development of coalbed methane (CBM). Traditional evaluation of macrolithotypes often relies on drilling cores and downhole workings, which are costly and difficult for obtaining comprehensive physical properties of coal seams. In recent years, geophysical logging technology has been commonly applied for evaluating physical properties of coal reservoirs because of its high efficiency and economic features. Taking the Junlian block in Sichuan province as a case study, based on many CBM evaluation wells and data analysis, a logging prediction method for the macrolithotypes of a high-rank coal reservoir is established. The problem of "boundary effect" is solved by the Haar wavelet analysis. Through a Pearson correlation coefficient matrix combined with backpropagation neural network analysis, density, natural gamma ray, acoustic time, compensated neutron, and deep lateral resistivity are extracted as critical parameters for constructing the method of logging interpretation of macrolithotypes. Logging identification models of different macrolithotypes are established by principal components analysis. Based on the results of logging interpretation, the macrolithotypes in the study area are mainly semi-dull coal and semi-bright coal. The genesis of macrolithotypes is analyzed by trace elements and lithologic characteristics. The bright coal in the study area is formed in a sedimentary environment of low paleotemperature, high anaerobic, saline water, and low sea level. In contrast, dull coal is formed in a sedimentary environment of relatively high sea level, brackish water, relatively rich oxygen, and relatively high paleotemperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the role of the family in supporting diabetes self‐management and explore the possible mechanisms between family and diabetes self‐management among rural patients in China. Background: The prevalence of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is growing rapidly in rural areas of China, where healthcare resources remain relatively poor and family members play an important role in chronic disease self‐management. Design: This was a multicentre cross‐sectional study. Methods: A total of 276 adults with T2DM were recruited from nine county hospitals in China. Diabetes self‐management, family support, family function, and family self‐efficacy were evaluated using the mature scales. A theoretical model was built based on the social learning family model and previous studies and then verified using a structural equation model. The STROBE statement was used to standardise the study procedure. Results: Family support and general family factors, including family function and self‐efficacy, were positively correlated with diabetes self‐management. Family support fully mediates the relationship between family function and diabetes self‐management and partially mediates the relationship between family self‐efficacy and diabetes self‐management. The model explained 41% of the variability in diabetes self‐management and had a good model fit. Conclusion: General family factors can explain nearly half of the change in diabetes self‐management in rural areas of China, while family support is a mediator between general family factors and diabetes self‐management. Family self‐efficacy, a potential intervention point of family based diabetes self‐management education, can be improved by building special lessons for family members. Relevance to Clinical Practice: This study emphasises the role of family in diabetes self‐management and proposes suggestions for diabetes self‐management intervention among patients with T2DM in rural areas of China. As population growth and urbanization continue to accelerate, city dwellers are increasingly conscious of the demand for urban green space (UGS) and the ecosystem services (ESs) it provides. Great efforts are made for the supply of certain ESs in UGS. However, less is known about the residents' preferences and the supply–demand matching of UGS types, as well as the various ESs it provides at different spatial scales. Given this, our research establishes a research framework to reveal the heterogeneity of USG types and the supply–demand matching degree (SDM) of ESs from municipal, provincial, and national spatial scales, and examines the correlation between the influencing factors and demands of residents for UGS. This study mainly used the Gini coefficient, the Lorenz curve, Z-scores, the Jenks natural breaks classification method, Pearson correlation analysis, and spatial analysis. The main findings are that (1) the Gini coefficients are 0.433 and 0.137 at the municipal and provincial scales, respectively, indicating that the supply of UGS is more unequal at the municipal scale than provincial scale; (2) the multi-scale demand for ESs between residents has no significant difference. At the provincial scale, the area with low demand is larger than that of high demand, while at the municipal scale, the contrary is the case; (3) the SDM was in a deficit at both the provincial and municipal scales. And as the scaling-up occurred, the spatial heterogeneity of the SDM decreased; (4) the number of influencing factors that significantly affected the UGS type and ESs grew as the scale increased. Among them, the impact of age and COVID-19 on three scales deserves attention. These results identify regions with deficits and surpluses in ESs provided by UGS in China at different scales. This research also advises that attention should be paid to the distribution of UGS between cities within provinces, and future UGS planning should focus on building regional green spaces to promote the well-being of an aging society. Headquarters economy is an advanced and complex economic form, and not all places possess the conditions to develop this type of economy. However, few studies have been devoted to evaluating and analyzing the suitability of a given region to develop headquarters economy, theoretically or empirically. In this study, a novel concept of "suitability of headquarters economy development" (SHED) was proposed, and a corresponding theoretical model and a four-level hierarchical indicator system were established. Besides, through an integration of the projection pursuit model, Pearson correlation, Theil index, and so on, we examine the regional inequality, spatial-temporal dynamic patterns and heterogeneity of the 19 urban agglomerations (UAs) in China from 2004 to 2018. The results showed that the SHED level of China's UAs had been increasing since 2004, with an extending trend of regional differences. The Theil index value confirmed that the differences in SHED were mainly owing to variations among the three hierarchies. In addition, the SHED of China's UAs exhibited significant dimensional heterogeneity, spatial heterogeneity, and hierarchical heterogeneity. According to the overall performance of China's UAs, their SHED can be divided into five grades: high-speed advancing zone, rapidly advancing zone, steadily advancing zone, preliminarily advancing zone, and initially starting zone. The SHED level of many UAs mismatch the level of central cities under their jurisdiction, which needs to be treated differently. This study enriches the existing knowledge regarding headquarters economy and provides useful policy implications for the promotion of high-quality development of UAs in China and other developing countries in the future. The accurate spatial-temporal prediction of photovoltaic (PV) power generation helps the power system dispatching department to make reasonable dispatching plans. In this paper, a robust spatial-temporal prediction model for PV power generation based on a denoising autoencoder (DAE) combining Gramian angular summation fields (GASF) and convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed. First, the downscaling and modeling of power data use Pearson correlation to reduce inaccurate and inefficient predictions due to large-scale sparse data. Second, the model training data are encoded with noise reduction using a denoising autoencoder. Finally, the performance of the proposed model is experimentally verified. The results show that the model still performs well when the data exist in different degrees of contamination, with an average mean square error (MSE) of 71.58. Experiments based on China and the USA PV power generation datasets with mean absolute error (MAE) of 4.26 and 3.96, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) primarily presents with symptoms of pain and compromised functionality. Pain is a subjective manifestation that necessitates the employment of reliable evaluation tools for practical assessment, thereby enabling the formulation of appropriate interventional strategies. The Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) is a widely utilized questionnaire for evaluating the status of chronic pain. The purpose of the present study is to translate the short form of BPI into Chinese version (BPI-CV) and conduct cross-cultural adaptation to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of BPI-CV in KOA patients. Methods: BPI-CV was translated and cross-culturally adapted according to internationally recognized guidelines. A cohort comprising 150 patients diagnosed with KOA successfully completed the demographic questionnaire, BPI-CV, Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and the EuroQoL Group's five-dimension questionnaire (EQ-5D). Internal consistency and test–retest analysis were used to evaluate the reliability. The internal consistency of the scale items was evaluated by calculating the Cronbach's α value (> 0.7). We chose to employ two scales commonly used in the evaluation of KOA patients: the disease-specific WOMAC scale and the universal EQ-5D scale. Construct validity was determined through Pearson correlation analysis, comparing BPI scores with those obtained from the WOMAC and EQ-5D scales. Exploratory factor analysis was used to structural validity. Results: The BPI-CV was well accepted with no ceiling or floor effect. Cronbach's α for assessing internal consistency was 0.894. Test–retest reliability was excellent with an ICC of 0.852 (95%CI 0.785–0.905). The BPI-CV showed moderate to strong correlations with the pain dimension (r = 0.496–0.860) and the functional interference dimension (r = 0.517–0.712) of the WOMAC and the EQ-5D (r = 0.527–0.743). Three factors resulted using exploratory factor analysis: pain severity, activity interference, and emotional interference, accounting for 79.0% of the total variance. Standard error of measurement was 0.539. Conclusion: BPI-CV has good feasibility, reliability, and validity. It can be recommended for KOA patients in mainland China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a traditional cash crop with ecological and nutritional values, mulberry is gradually expanding its consumption worldwide due to its great regional adaptability and superior health functions. The widespread interest in nutrients has led to a growing need to explore in depth the health benefits of mulberries. Many studies are actively being conducted to investigate the adaptability of the diversity of mulberries in different applications. This study systematically investigated the physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity of four mulberry genotypes cultivated in China's semi-arid sandy regions to better understand the composition and health-promoting potential of this super crop. Chemical composition identification was identified via HPLC and antioxidant activity was further determined via DPPH and FRAP. The moisture, crude protein, ash, soluble solids, phenolics, anthocyanins, and flavonoids contents of mulberry were comparatively analyzed. The study revealed that the four mulberry genotypes showed significant differences in quality and content of the analyzed characteristics. The greatest antioxidant activity was found in Shensang 1, which had the most soluble solids (17%) and the highest amounts of free sugar (fructose: 5.14% and glucose: 5.46%). Ji'an had the most minerals (K: 2.35 mg/g, Ca: 2.27 mg/g, and Fe: 467.32 mg/kg) and it also contained chlorogenic acid, which has the potential to be turned into a natural hypoglycemic agent. PCA and Pearson correlation analysis indicated that the antioxidant activity was closely related to the chemical contents of total phenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and soluble sugars. If the antioxidant activity and nutrient content of the developed plants are considered, Shen Sang 1 is the most favorable variety. Understanding the response of vegetation to temperature extremes is crucial for investigating vegetation growth and guiding ecosystem conservation. North China is a vital hub for China's economy and food supplies, and its vegetation is highly vulnerable to complex heatwaves. In this study, based on remote sensing data, i.e., the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), spatio-temporal variations in vegetation and extreme high temperatures are investigated by using the methods of trend analysis, linear detrending, Pearson correlation and ridge regression. The impacts of extreme-high-temperature events on different vegetation types in North China from 1982 to 2015 are explored on multiple time scales. The results indicate that the NDVI in North China exhibits an overall increasing trend on both annual and monthly scales, with the highest values for forest vegetation and the fastest growth trend for cropland. Meanwhile, extreme-high-temperature events in North China also display an increasing trend. Before detrending, the correlations between the NDVI and certain extreme-high-temperature indices are not significant, while significant negative correlations are observed after detrending. On an annual scale, the NDVI is negatively correlated with extreme temperature indices, except for the number of warm nights, whereas, on a monthly scale, these negative correlations are only found from June to September. Grassland vegetation shows relatively strong correlations with all extreme temperature indices, while forests show nonsignificant correlations with the indices. Accurate prediction of future chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations is of great importance for effective management and early warning of marine ecological systems. However, previous studies primarily focused on chlorophyll-a inversion and reconstruction, while methods for predicting Chl-a concentrations remain limited. To address this issue, we adopted four deep learning approaches, including Convolutional LSTM Network (ConvLSTM), Convolutional Neural Network-Long Short-Term Memory (CNN-LSTM), Eidetic 3D LSTM (E3D-LSTM), and Self-Attention ConvLSTM (SA-ConvLSTM) models, to predict Chl-a over the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea (YBS) in China. Furthermore, 14 environmental variables obtained from the remote sensing data of Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and ECMWF Reanalysis v5 (ERA5) were utilized to predict the Chl-a concentrations in the study area. The results showed that all four models performed satisfactorily in predicting Chl-a concentrations in the YBS, with SA-ConvLSTM exhibiting a closer approximation to true values. Furthermore, we analyzed the impact of the Self-Attention Memory Module (SAM) on the prediction results. Compared to the ConvLSTM model, the SA-ConvLSTM model integrated with the SAM module better captured subtle large-scale variations within the study area. The SA-ConvLSTM model exhibited the highest prediction accuracy, and the one-month Pearson correlation coefficient reached 0.887. Vegetation is one of the most important indicators of climate change, as it can show regional change in the environment. Vegetation health is affected by various factors, including drought, which has cumulative and time-lag effects on vegetation response. However, the cumulative and time-lag effects of drought on different terrestrial vegetation in China are still unclear. To address this issue, this study examined the cumulative and time-lag effects of drought on vegetation from 2001 to 2020 using the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) in the Global SPEI database and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) in MOD13A3. Based on Sen-Median trend analysis and the Mann–Kendall test, the change trend and significance of the NDVI from 2001 to 2020 were explored. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlation between the SPEI and NDVI at each cumulative scale and time-lag scale and to further analyze the cumulative and time-lag effects of drought on vegetation. The results show the following: (1) The NDVI value increased at a rate of 0.019/10 years, and the increased area of the NDVI accounted for 80.53% of mainland China, with a spatial trend of low values in the west and high values in the east. (2) The average SPEI cumulative time scale most relevant to the NDVI was 7.3 months, and the cumulative effect demonstrated a high correlation at the scale of 9–12 months and revealed different distributions in different areas. The cumulative effect was widely distributed at the 9-month scale, followed by the 12-month scale. The correlation coefficients of cumulative effects between the SPEI and NDVI for cropland, woodland and grassland peaked at 9 months. (3) The average SPEI time-lag scale for the NDVI was 6.9 months, and the time-lag effect had the highest correlation coefficient at the 7-month scale. The strongest time-lag effect for cropland and grassland was seen at 7 months, while the strongest time-lag effect for woodland was seen at 6 months. Woodland had a lower time-lag effect than grassland at different scales. In order to explore the evolution characteristics of TP and NH3-N in Daheiting reservoir since its construction, and their response to economic development, the monitoring data of water quality from 1992 to 2018 and statistical data of socio-economic development in Qianxi County were analyzed to examine the interannual evolution of TP and NH3-N and their correlation with upstream water quality, various economic indicators, and the scale of cage fish culture. The results show that, influenced by economic development, the evolution process of TP and NH3-N in Daheiting reservoir can be divided into three stages. In Stage I, the economic development of Qianxi County was slow, and the water quality of upstream water and the reservoir was good, with TP and NH3-N concentrations remaining relatively stable. In Stage II, Qianxi County entered a period of rapid economic development, and the TP and NH3-N in upstream water and Daheiting reservoir both increased significantly, with TP exceeding the standard limit. In Stage III, the intensity of external pollution control increased, and all cages were removed from the reservoir. Both TP and NH3-N showed a downward trend, but TP still exceeded the standard limit. Aim: To explore the association between social capital and health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) and to determine whether depression mediates the association among Chinese older adults in the context of the COVID‐19 pandemic. Design: A descriptive cross‐sectional research design. Methods: The Geriatric Depression Scale‐15, Social Capital Questionnaire and 12‐item Short‐Form Health Survey were used to investigate 1201 older adults selected from Jinan, Shandong Province, China, using a multistage stratified cluster random sampling method. Results: Pearson's correlation analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between social capital and HRQoL (r = 0.269, p < 0.01). Multivariate linear regression analyses demonstrated that social capital was significantly negatively associated with depression (β = −0.072, p < 0.001) and that depression was associated with HRQoL (β = −1.031, p < 0.001). The mediation analyses showed that depression mediated the association between social capital and HRQoL, and the indirect effect size was 0.073 (95% confidence interval: 0.050, 0.100). Aim: To develop a Chinese version of the return‐to‐work self‐efficacy (RTW‐SE‐11) and verify its reliability and validity. Design: A validation study. Methods: The RTW‐SE‐11 was translated into Chinese according to the Brislin's model, and then the semantic adjustment of questionnaire was carried out through multi‐field expert evaluation and preliminary investigation. Results: All 11 items of the original questionnaire were retained. Content validity index (CVI) of the Chinese version of RTW‐SE‐11 indicated good validity, with Inter‐rater Agreement (IR) of 0.97, item CVI of 0.90–1.00 and questionnaire CVI of 0.91. Cronbach's α coefficient of RTW‐SE‐11 (Chinese version) was 0.923, suggesting high internal consistency, with test–retest reliability of 0.799 and half‐fold reliability of 0.926. Background: Delirium is one of the most common complications in critically ill children. Once delirium occurs, it will cause physical and psychological distress in children and increase the length of their ICU stay and hospitalization costs. Understanding the risk factors for delirium in critically ill children can help develop targeted nursing interventions to reduce the incidence of delirium. Aims: To investigate the incidence and the risk factors of delirium in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU). Study design: We performed a prospective observational study in critically ill patients in the PICU between February and July 2020. Delirium was diagnosed by the Cornell Assessment of Paediatric Delirium (CAPD) and the Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale and analysed via univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression to determine the independent risk factors of delirium in critically ill children. Results: The study enrolled 315 patients ranging in age from 1–202 (65.3–54.3) months, with 56.2% (n = 177) being male. The incidence of delirium was 29.2% (n = 92) according to CAPD criteria. Among them, 33 cases (35.9%) were of hyperactive delirium, 16 cases (17.4%) were of hypoactive delirium, and 43 cases (46.7%) were of mixed delirium. By using stepwise logistic regression, the independent risk factors of delirium included mechanical ventilation (odds ratio [OR], 11.470; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.283–30.721), nervous system disease (OR, 5.596; 95%CI, 2.445 to 12.809), developmental delay (OR, 5.157; 95% CI, 1.990–13.363), benzodiazepine (OR, 3.359; 95% CI 1.278–8.832), number of catheters (OR, 1.918; 95% CI, 1.425 to 2.582), and age (OR, 0.985; 95% confidence interval CI, 0.976–0.993). Conclusions: Delirium is a common complication in the PICU. The independent risk factors include mechanical ventilation, nervous system disease, developmental delay, benzodiazepines, higher number of catheters, and younger age. This study may help develop intervention strategies to reduce the incidence of delirium in critically ill children by targeting modifiable risk factors. The optimal selection of characteristic bands and retrieval models for the hyperspectral retrieval of soil heavy metal concentrations poses a significant challenge. Additionally, satellite-based hyperspectral retrieval encounters several issues, including atmospheric effects, limitations in temporal and radiometric resolution, and data acquisition, among others. Given this, the retrieval performance of the soil arsenic (As) concentration in Pingtan Island, the largest island in Fujian Province and the fifth largest in China, is currently unclear. This study aimed to elucidate this issue by identifying optimal characteristic bands from the full spectrum from both statistical and physical perspectives. We tested three linear models, namely Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), as well as three nonlinear machine learning models, including Back Propagation Neural Network (BP), Support Vector Machine Regression (SVR) and Random Forest Regression (RFR). We then retrieved soil arsenic content using ground-based soil full spectrum data on Pingtan Island. Our results indicate that the RFR model consistently outperformed all others when using both original and optimal characteristic bands. This superior performance suggests a complex, nonlinear relationship between soil arsenic concentration and spectral variables, influenced by diverse landscape factors. The GWR model, which considers spatial non-stationarity and heterogeneity, outperformed traditional models such as BP and SVR. This finding underscores the potential of incorporating spatial characteristics to enhance traditional machine learning models in geospatial studies. When evaluating retrieval model accuracy based on optimal characteristic bands, the RFR model maintained its top performance, and linear models (MLR, PLSR and GWR) showed notable improvement. Specifically, the GWR model achieved the highest r value for the validation data, indicating that selecting optimal characteristic bands based on high Pearson's correlation coefficients (e.g., abs(Pearson's correlation coefficient) ≥0.45) and high sensitivity to soil active materials successfully mitigates uncertainties linked to characteristic band selection solely based on Pearson's correlation coefficients. Consequently, two effective retrieval models were generated: the best-performing RFR model and the improved GWR model. Our study on Pingtan Island provides theoretical and technical support for monitoring and evaluating soil arsenic concentrations using satellite-based spectroscopy in densely populated, relatively independent island towns in China and worldwide. Water resources management and planning traditionally focus on visible liquid or blue water. However, green water also maintains social development and ecosystem services. Therefore, blue and green water should be incorporated into the watershed management system for evaluating water resources. To analyze the water resources of the Hanjiang River Basin, the SWAT model was set up using long-term and high-precision geographic data. The methods of wavelet analysis and Pearson's correlation analysis were used to explore the influence mechanism of climate and vegetation changes on the blue and green water flow (BWF and GWF) of the main ecosystems in the basin. The results showed that: (1) The spatial–temporal distribution of the BWF and GWF in the main ecosystems of the basin over the past 50 years was uneven. Forest ecosystems and farmland ecosystems have a greater concentration of water resources in the south, while grassland ecosystems have a greater concentration of water resources in the east. (2) Climate dominates the BWF and GWF changes in the main ecosystems of the basin. The BWF and the precipitation change cycle are synergistic, and the GWF and the temperature change cycle are synergistic. (3) The correlation between vegetation and BWF and GWF in the farmland ecosystem is significant. Vegetation affects the hydrological change process of the BWF and GWF at the microscale. Heavy metal (HM) contamination of agro-ecosystems has raised great attention across the world due to the rapid development of industrialization and urbanization. Importantly, HMs have been consistently entering the food webs, imposing great risks on public health. However, previous studies have focused more on large-scale areas. Exemplarily, some typical areas (e.g., riverside farmlands) receive insufficient attention, but they may have a higher ecological risk. In this study, we used a series of indices to evaluate risks, including single factor index, Nemerow index, geological accumulation index, potential ecological risk index, risk assessment code, etc. Based on the field investigation, we systematically analyzed the pollution characteristics and ecological risks of five HMs (i.e., Pb, Cu, Zn, Cr, and Ni) in the typical vegetable soil and its irrigation sediment in Xijiang River Basin, Guangdong, China. The results indicate that the pH values of the soil and sediment are mainly neutral or slightly acidic. Moreover, large-scale natural sources may have the effect on the soil and sediment, among which storm runoff and scouring of the river may be main natural factors of HM activation. And importantly, there was a migration cycle (with the in-out trait) for the main non-residual forms of HMs between riverside soil and sediment. According to the principal component analysis (PCA), HMs may be mainly affected by anthropogenic sources. Specifically, PC1 may be related to transportation and agricultural machineries, and PC2 may be related to pesticides and fertilizers. Also, according to risk assessment code and the ration of secondary phase to primary phase, these meant high proportion of the bio-available forms of HMs. Conversely, Pearson correlation coefficient between bioavailable metal index and the sum of toxic unit was not high, which was related to low contents of the bio-available HMs. And though, these indices may show great differences due to different method focuses, an important suggestion is that integrating all the methods can receive more comprehensive results of ecological risks. According to the bioavailable metal index, the bio-availability of HMs decreases in the following order: river sediment (3.69 ± 1.24) > riverside farmland soil (2.28 ± 0.61) > inside-dyke farmland soil (2.26 ± 1.24) > reservoir sediment (1.99 ± 0.18). Besides, comprehensive evaluation indicates that Cu and Zn pose the greater environmental risks as they have the highest effective content, bioavailability, and mobility. In recent years, educational institutions, administrators, and college EFL teachers in China have advocated for increased emphasis on fostering English undergraduates’ higher-order thinking skills. The relevant studies are widely limited in theoretical approaches without extensive empirical examination of Chinese English undergraduates’ higher-order thinking. Therefore, it is significant to conduct empirical research to explore English undergraduates’ higher-order thinking attitudes and skills separately. This study also assesses their correlation and the impact of different learning stages and language proficiencies on these aspects. By doing this, the study holds substantial significance for empirical inquiries into the characteristics of English undergraduates’ HOTS, serving as the reference for Chinese EFL teachers to implement higherorder thinking instructions. A quantitative design of questionnaires and tests was employed on a sample of 240 Chinese-English undergraduates from Hebei Finance University. The data analysis contained descriptive statistical analysis, independent-sample T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation analysis. The findings show that although the responding participants have relatively positive attitudes toward higher-order thinking skills, they exhibit variations in their ability to utilize them. Differences in learning stages and language proficiency do not significantly influence the development of the respondents’ higher-order thinking skills. There is no significant correlation between higher-order thinking attitudes and skills among the participants, indicating that having a positive inclination to higher-order thinking differs from having the skills to think. Background: Mixed results have been found regarding the relationship between media use degree and depressive symptoms. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between media use degree, big five personality and depressive symptoms with a mediation model. Method: This was a cross-sectional study. With 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), 10-item Big Five Inventory (BFI-10) and self-designed media usage scale, 11,031 participants aged 12 and above in 120 cities in China were collected. Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed on the data. The Process plug-in was used to construct the mediation model and explore the relationship among media use degree, big five personality and depressive symptoms. The nonparametric percentile Bootstrap method was used to test the mediating effect of personality traits. Results: The degree of media use was positively correlated with depressive symptoms (r = 0.20, P < 0.001), and big five personality played a mediating role between the degree of media use and depressive symptoms. Among five traits, extroversion (r=-0.12, P < 0.001), conscientiousness (r=-0.23, P < 0.001), openness (r=-0.03, P < 0.01) and agreeableness (r=-0.22, P < 0.001) were negatively correlated with depressive symptoms, and neuroticism (r = 0.25, P < 0.001) were positively correlated with depressive symptoms. In addition, extraversion (-0.004, -0.001), conscientiousness (-0.015, -0.008), agreeableness (-0.008, -0.001) and neuroticism (-0.015, -0.007) in big five personality played a mediating role between media use and depressive symptoms. Conclusion: The degree of media use positively predicted depressive symptoms, and excessive media use may bring risks to mental health. Introduction: The treatment with monosialotetrahexosylganglioside (GM1) improves the symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). The alteration of DNA methylation in the blood was examined to investigate epigenetic modification by GM1 treatment. Methods: After a 28-day continuous intravenous infusion of GM1 (100mg), the motor and non-motor symptoms were evaluated by UPDRS III, Mini-mental state examination (MMSE) scores, FS-14, SCOPA-AUT, and PDQ-8. Moreover, blood samples were collected and PBMC was isolated. Genome-wide DNA methylation was performed by an 850K BeadChip. RNA levels and apoptosis were examined by RT-PCR and flow cytometry in rotenone-based cell models. The CREB5 plasmid was transfected by electroporation into SH-SY5Y cells. We also identified 235 methylation variable positions achieving genome-wide significance in 717558 differentially methylated positions (DMPs) (P = 0.0003) in comparison of pretreatment with post-treatment measurements (statistical analysis paired-samples t-test). Results: By searching the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset and GWAS, 23 methylation variable positions were screened. Moreover, there are 7 hypomethylated methylation variable positions correlated with the scores of motor symptoms (UPDRS III scale). According to KEGG pathways enrichment analysis, the methylated genes CACNA1B (hypomethylated), CREB5 (hypermethylated), GNB4 (hypomethylated), and PPP2R5A (hypomethylated) were enriched in the dopaminergic synapse pathway. Pretreated with GM1 (80 µM) for 1 h, cell apoptosis and impaired neurite outgrowth were inhibited in rotenone-induced PD cell models. The RNA expression of CREB5 was increased in rotenone-treated SH-SY5Y cells. GM1 treatment decreased rotenone-induced CREB5 gene expression. The enhancement of CREB5 gene expression suppressed the protective role of GM1 in rotenone-induced cell apoptosis. Researchers have widely acknowledged the therapeutic value of epilepsy surgery for drug-resistant epilepsy. Nonetheless, there is a substantial gap in the surgical treatment for appropriate candidates owing to several factors, particularly in the population of young children. To standardize the protocols of preoperative evaluation and surgery of young children for epilepsy surgery, the China Association Against Epilepsy has appointed an expert task force to standardize the protocols of preoperative evaluation and surgery in pediatric epilepsy patients. It adopted the modified Delphi method and performed two rounds of surveys through an anonymous inquiry among 75 experts from four subgroups including pediatric neurologists, epileptologists, pediatric epilepsy surgeons, and functional neurosurgeons. The survey contents contained: (1) the participants, comprising children aged ≤ 6 years; (2) adopted DRE definition proposed by the International League Against Epilepsy in 2010; and (3) investigated epilepsy surgery, principally referring to curative epilepsy surgeries. The neuromodulation therapies were excluded because of the differences in treatment mechanisms from the above-mentioned surgeries. According to the Delphi process, a consensus was achieved for most aspects by incorporating two rounds of surveys including preoperative assessment, surgical strategies and techniques, and perioperative and long-term postoperative management, despite controversial opinions on certain items. Objectives: This study investigated the effects of effort‐reward imbalance (ERI) on emergency nurses' turnover intention and the role of depressive symptoms between ERI and turnover intention. Background: Turnover intention is crucial for clinical practice due to its relationship with turnover behaviour and destructive effect on stability of nursing staff. The ERI is a mainstream model to explain job stress, which seems to be one of the key variables, but the direct evidence is not adequate. In addition, there have been only a few studies looking into the complexity of the relationship between ERI and turnover intention, and more research is needed. Methods: This is a cross‐sectional study conducted from July to August 2018, and the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines were followed. We employed a standardised questionnaire to collect sociodemographic information and target turnover intention. Hierarchical multiple logistic regression and mediation analyses were performed for the data analyses. Results: This study included responses from 17,582 emergency nurses in China. On turnover intention, ERI exerted both direct effect and indirect mediating effect. The results also indicate that depressive symptoms partially mediated the effect of ERI on turnover intention, and that 27.4% of this effect can be explained by mediating effects. Conclusions: To improve the turnover intention, it is necessary to consider reducing ERI and depressive symptoms of emergency nurses as powerful measures not to be ignored. Relevance to Clinical Practice: This study provides important insights regarding how nursing administrators should better reduce the workload of caregivers and improve depressive symptoms to avoid turnover intention. Aims: This study aimed to measure sleep quality and its possible association with fear of progression (FOP) in patients with chronic heart failure (HF). Design: A cross‐sectional study. Methods: A total of 254 patients with chronic HF were recruited from two tertiary hospitals in China. The sociodemographic and clinical data of participants were collected using a general information questionnaire. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Fear of Progression Questionnaire‐Short Form were used to evaluate sleep quality over 1 month and FOP. Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression were conducted to analyse the relationship between sleep quality and FOP. Results: Of all participants, 85.8% had poor sleep quality, with a mean score of 12.3 ± 4.2 (possible score could be 0 to 21). The severity of FOP was positively correlated with poor sleep quality. HF hospitalization in the past year, numbers of HF drugs, monthly income and total score of FOP were strong predictors of decreased sleep quality, accounting for 24.2% of the variance in the sleep quality of these patients. Conclusions: Patients with chronic HF generally reported poor sleep quality, which should be highly concerned for medical workers. Alleviating FOP as a therapeutic strategy may improve sleep quality. Impact: It is urgent to raise clinical attention that Chinese patients with chronic HF have poor sleep quality, which is not just due to the symptoms of HF itself. FOP is an important psychological factor influencing sleep quality in patients with chronic HF, which has not been explored in China. Aims Studies have shown that symptom perception is associated with fear of progression (FOP) in many diseases and regulated by psychological factors. Whether the association also occurs in patients with chronic heart failure (HF) remains unclear, as do the specific mechanisms involved. This study aimed to explore the multiple mediation effects of self-care confidence and mental resilience on the relationship between symptom perception and FOP in Chinese patients with chronic HF. Methods and results A cross-sectional study was conducted on 247 patients with chronic HF recruited from two hospitals in Yangzhou, China. The sociodemographic and clinical data and self-reported questionnaires including heart failure somatic perception, fear of progression, self-care confidence, and mental resilience were collected. Data analysis relating to correlations and mediating effects was carried out by SPSS 26.0 and PROCESS v3.3 macro. Fear of progression was positively correlated with symptom perception (r = 0.599, P < 0.01), but negatively correlated with self-care confidence (r = −0.663, P < 0.01), mental resilience-strength (r = −0.521, P < 0.01), and mental resilience-toughness (r = −0.596, P < 0.01). The relationship between symptom perception and FOP was mediated by self-care confidence [effect = 0.095, 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.054–0.142)] and mental resilience-toughness [effect = 0.033, 95% CI (0.006–0.074)], respectively, and together in serial [effect = 0.028, 95% CI (0.011–0.050)]. The proportion of the mediating effect accounting for the total effect was 31.0%. Conclusion Self-care confidence and mental resilience-toughness were multiple mediators of the association between symptom perception and FOP in patients with chronic HF. There are few studies on the simultaneous behavior of chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), and tungsten (W) belonging to group VIB of the periodic table. Herein, based on high-resolution dialysis (HR-Peeper) and diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) technology, the vertical distribution characteristics of DGT-labile and soluble Cr, Mo, and W in two lakes of Nansi Lake (Weishan Lake and Dushan Lake) were analyzed. In addition, the net diffusion fluxes and R-value (CDGT/Csol) were used to evaluate the mobility and release risk of metals at the sediment-water interface. The results showed that the DGT-labile concentrations of the three metal elements (Cr, Mo, and W) in Weishan Lake were higher than those in Dushan Lake, both in overlying water and sediment. This is mainly due to the dredging of the Dushan Lake area, which can permanently remove the polluted sediment in the lake. Meanwhile, the exogenous input is relatively high near the tourist area of Weishan Island. The net diffusion fluxes indicate that the W has a potential release risk of diffusion to the overlying water in Dushan Lake. The release of Cr, Mo, and W is thought to be related to the reductive dissolution of Fe/Mn (hydr)oxides based on Pearson correlation coefficients. The R-values of Cr and W indicate that Cr and W belong to the partial continuity case. The R-value of Mo was lower than the minimum value, meaning that Mo belongs to the single diffusion type and it is difficult for Mo sediments to supply pore water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Broussonetia papyrifera is an important native tree species in China with strong adaptability, wide distribution and economic importance. Climate change is considered as the main threat to ecological processes and global biodiversity. Predicting the potential geographical distribution of B. papyrifera in future climate change scenarios will provide a scientific basis for ecological restoration in China. Principal component analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were conducted to select the environmental variables. The distribution and changes in the potential suitable area for B. papyrifera were predicted using the maximum entropy model and the CIMP6 dataset from 2041 to 2060. The current highly suitable areas for B. papyrifera were mainly located in Guangdong (5.60 × 104 km2), Guangxi (4.39 × 104 km2), Taiwan (2.54 × 104 km2) and Hainan (2.17 × 104 km2). The mean temperature of the coldest quarter (11.54–27.11 °C), precipitation of the driest quarter (51.48–818.40 mm) and precipitation of the wettest quarter (665.51–2302.60 mm) were the main factors limiting the suitable areas for B. papyrifera. The multi-modal average of the highly and the total suitable areas for B. papyrifera were 111.42 × 104 and 349.11 × 104 km2 in the SSP5-8.5 scenario, while those in the SSP1-2.6 scenario were 87.50 × 104 and 328.29 × 104 km2, respectively. The gained suitable areas for B. papyrifera will expand to the western and northern China in the future scenarios. The multi-model averaging results showed that the potential available planting area was 212.66 × 104 and 229.32 × 104 km2 in the SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios, respectively, when the suitable area within the farmland range was excluded. The high-quality development of new agricultural business entities (NABEs) is an important driving force for realizing rural revitalization and accelerating the modernization of agriculture and rural areas. The main purpose of the study is to investigate the spatial distribution pattern, aggregation scales, development mechanism, and internal differences of various types of NABEs in different regions. It provides targeted ideas for alleviating regional differences in the development of NABEs in different agricultural regions. Kernel density estimation, nearest neighbor distance analysis, Tyson's polygon coefficient of variation, and Ripley's K function are used to study the spatial and temporal evolution, spatial aggregation, and scale divergence of various types of NABEs, and Pearson correlation analysis is incorporated to explore the specific factors affecting the development of various types of NABEs. The study results: First, family farms are the most widely distributed, and agricultural enterprises are the most sparsely distributed, being distributed "more in the southeast and less in the northwest" in all three categories. Second, the strongest aggregation scales of different NABEs are increasing, and the strongest aggregation scales of agricultural enterprises are larger than those of family farms and cooperatives in all agricultural areas. Third, the development of specialized farmers' cooperatives (abbreviated as 'cooperatives') is more constrained by traditional agricultural inputs and is a kind of agricultural input-oriented development. Family farms are more constrained by the living standards of rural residents in the region and are a kind of rural economy-oriented development. Agricultural enterprises are more subject to the economic level of the region, which is a kind of market economy-oriented development. Background: This study aimed to test the mediating role of anxiety and insomnia in the association between fear of infection and fatigue.Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted on the nurses deployed to Heihe. A serial multiple mediation model was established to determine the role of anxiety and insomnia in the association between fear of infection and fatigue.Findings: Over half (53.0%) of the study participants reported experiencing fear of infection despite stringent personal protection measures. The scores of anxiety (11.87± 5.19), insomnia (16.33± 5.95), and fatigue (45.94± 12.93) were moderately correlated, with a Pearson correlation coefficient ranging from 0.501 to 0.579. Anxiety, either alone or in combination with insomnia, mediated the association between fear of infection and fatigue.Conclusion: The findings suggest that anxiety and insomnia play a mediating role in the relationship between fear of infection and fatigue. Wanfeng Lake, a highland lake in the upper part of the Pearl River Basin, China, has long been disturbed by aquaculture and human activities, resulting in the accumulation of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), which pose a major threat to humans and animals. In this study, 20 antibiotics, 9 ARGs, 2 mobile genetic elements (intl1 and intl2), and microbial community structure were investigated in Wanfeng Lake. The results of the study showed that the total concentration of antibiotics in surface water was 372.72 ng/L, with ofloxacin (OFX) having the highest concentration (169.48 ng/L), posing a high ecological risk to aquatic organisms. The total concentration of antibiotics in sediments was 235.86 ng/g, with flumequine (FLU) having the highest concentration (122.54 ng/g). This indicates that the main type of antibiotics in Wanfeng Lake are quinolones. QPCR analysis results of the relative abundance of ARGs in both surface water and sediments showed that sulfonamide resistance genes > macrolide resistance genes > tetracycline resistance genes > quinolone resistance genes, indicating that sulfonamide resistance genes were the dominant type. The metagenomic results showed that the predominant microorganisms in the sediment under the phylum level were Planctomycetes, Proteobacteria, Euryarchaeota, and Chloroflexi. Pearson's correlation analysis showed a significantly positive correlation between antibiotics and environmental factors with ARGs in Wanfeng Lake and a significant positive correlation between antibiotics and ARGs with microorganisms in sediments. This suggests that there is a potential pressure of antibiotics on ARGs, while microorganisms provide the driving force for the evolution and spread of ARGs. This study provides a basis for further research on the occurrence and spread of antibiotics and ARGs in Wanfeng Lake. A total of 14 antibiotics were detected in surface water and sediments. The Bohai Bay region is a famous wine-growing area in China, where the rainfall is concentrated in the summer due to the influence of the temperate semi-humid monsoon climate. As such, the vineyard terrain has a significant impact on the flavor quality of the grapes and the resulting wines. To explore the relationship between the 'Cabernet Sauvignon' wine style and terrain, this study takes four different plots in the Jieshi Mountain region to investigate the differences in the aroma profile of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and wines of two consecutive vintages. Based on two-way ANOVA, there were 25 free and 8 glycosylated aroma compounds in the grapes and 21 and 10 aroma compounds with an odor activity value greater than 0.1 in the wines at the end of alcohol fermentation (AF) and malolactic fermentation (MLF), respectively, that varied among the four plots. Wines from the four plots showed a significant difference in floral and fruity aroma attributes, which were mainly related to esters with high odor activity values. The difference in concentration of these compounds between plots was more pronounced in 2021 than in 2020, and a similar result was shown on the Shannon–Wiener index, which represents wine aroma diversity. It has been suggested that high rainfall makes the plot effect more pronounced. Pearson's correlation analysis indicated that concentrations of (E)-3-hexen-1-ol in grapes and ethyl 3-methylbutanoate, ethyl hexanoate, isoamyl acetate, isopentanoic acid, and phenethyl acetate in wines were strongly positively correlated with the concentrations of N, P, K, Fe, and electrical conductivity in soil but negatively correlated with soil pH. Background: Healthcare systems had an exceptionally difficult time during the early COVID-19 pandemic. Nurse managers in particular made enormous contributions to ensuring the safety of patients and front-line nurses while being under excessive psychological stress. However, little is known about their experiences during this time. Objective: The aim of this study was thus to assess the level of stress overload and psychological feelings of nurse managers during the early COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A mixed methods sequential explanatory design study with non-random convenience sampling was performed, following the STROBE and COREQ checklists. The study was conducted at the Affiliated Dongyang Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, with data collected from six provinces in southern China (Zhejiang, Hubei, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Hunan and Jiangxi) during March 2020 and June 2020. A total of 966 nurse managers completed the Stress Overload Scale and Work-Family Support Scale. In addition, a nested sample of nurse managers participated in semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The data were then analyzed using qualitative content analysis, Pearson correlation, and multiple linear regression. Results: The quantitative results showed that nurse managers experienced a moderate level of stress load. There was a significant negative correlation between work-family support and stress load (r = -0.551, p < 0.01). Concerns about protecting front-line nurses and work-family support were the main factors affecting the stress load, which accounted for 34.0% of the total variation. Qualitative analysis identified four main thematic analyses that explained stress load: (1) great responsibility and great stress, (2) unprecedented stress-induced stress response, (3) invisible stress: the unknown was even more frightening, and (4) stress relief from love and support. Taken together these findings indicate that concern about protecting front-line nurses and negative work-family support of nurse managers were the main factors causing stress overload. Conclusion: Implementing measures focused on individual psychological adjustment combined with community and family support and belongingness is one potential strategy to reduce psychological stress among nurse managers. Blended learning has increasingly grown in importance as a method of classroom instruction in Chinese higher education classrooms in the context of fast-evolving network information technology, higher standards of educational informatization, and growing attention to the reform of teaching modes in higher education. The efficiency of blended learning can be increased by better understanding the students’ learning satisfaction and its key influencing factors. Based on the theories of constructivism and phenomenology, the study constructs an index system of student satisfaction with blended learning in higher education, and conducts a questionnaire survey on 650 students with blended learning experience in 6 universities in Sichuan Province, China, obtaining 598 valid questionnaires after reviewing the collected questionnaires for missing values. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis (DSA), one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression (MLR) to analyze the effects of each factor in the index system on satisfaction. Results indicate that the overall level of student satisfaction with blended learning in universities is moderately high, with students’ self-satisfaction being the lowest, and that substantial disparities exist in the evaluation of satisfaction with blended learning on various online resources, online teaching forms, and offline teaching methods. This study applies multiple linear regression (MLR) to conclude that students’ learning attitudes, curriculum design, and teachers’ teaching methods are the most important factors influencing satisfaction with blended learning in universities. Results indicate that a blended learning system be built from the three dimensions of students, teachers, and curriculum, offering a theoretical foundation and point of reference for the ongoing reform of blended learning in higher education. The large-scale wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in developed regions collect volumes of wastewater containing various emerging contaminants (ECs) every day, but without any effective process to eliminate them. Therefore, it is of vital importance to study the occurrence of ECs in the effluents from WWTPs. In this study, the concentration levels and pollution characteristics of typical ECs in effluents were investigated for source identification and risk assessment. In total, 13 of 39 analyzed ECs were detected in the effluents, with the highest detection concentration at 706 µg/L (oxolinic acid). Sulfaphenazole showed the highest detection frequency at 100%, while Liede WWTP (1.2 million m3/day), located at Tianhe District, was with the highest detection concentration (899 µg/L) among all sampling sites. Parallel factor analysis was applied to identify the dissolved organic matters (DOMs) of excitation–emission matrix spectroscopy (EEMS) first. Based on previous research data, the connection between DOMs and pollution sources could be built. Then, principal component analysis (PCA) and Pearson's correlation analysis were used to determine the correlation between ECs and DOMs. Finally, ecological and health risk quotients were calculated for the risk assessment of ECs. The results illustrated that oxolinic acid, sulfaphenazole, sulfaquinoxaline, sulfadimethoxypyrimidine, penicillin V, and flumequine were potentially discharged from human activities and livestock, poultry, and aquaculture industry; the possible sources of sulfadoxine and nafcillin were agricultural activities, food production, and catering industry; sulfapyridine and erythromycin were believed to come from hospital wastewater; and the discharges of lincomycin, sulfameter, and sulfamerazine were related to petrochemical industry or chemical production activities. Except for sulfadoxine, all detected ECs posed a high or median risk on aquatic ecosystem, which is enough to threaten aquatic organisms. Even though only oxolinic acid, sulfaquinoxaline, and sulfadimethoxypyrimidine presented a potential risk on humans' health, the cumulative effect of ECs in the human body still needs attention. The threats of ECs from large-scale WWTPs in China's developed regions are pointed out for the first time, which could possibly bring widespread attention on emerging pollution from WWTP effluents, potentially advance the introduction of relevant policies, and provide the direction and target pollutants for follow-up mitigation actions. Context: As water demands continue to increase, the contradiction between water supply and demand is becoming increasingly severe, as is the case in Inner Mongolia's arid and semiarid areas. However, the relationship between water supply and demand in watersheds must be better understood. Therefore, it is crucial to clarify the relationship between the supply and demand of freshwater resources for the sustainable utilization of regional water resources. Objectives: Taking the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as the study area, this study analyzed the temporal and spatial relationships between water supply and demand in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2018. Methods: The InVEST model and water resources bulletin were used to assess water resource supply and demand. The differences between the years were assessed using analysis of variance and the correlations applying Pearson correlation. Results: We observed a mismatch between the supply and demand of water resources. Water resources are in short supply in 44% of the watersheds, especially in the central and western regions. The difference in the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation and increased human water demand were the main reasons for the contradiction between regional water supply and demand. Conclusions: This study provides corresponding water resource management measures for different watersheds. Proposed water resource management measures include water-saving irrigation practices, constructing water conservancy projects in the eastern region, ecological protection, and moderately developing water-saving agriculture in the western region. Aim: The purpose of this study was to assess the level of moral courage among nurses in China, and to explore related influential factors, to help nursing managers take measures to improve nurses' moral courage. Design: A cross‐sectional study. Methods: The data adopted a convenient sampling method. From September to December 2021, 583 nurses from five hospitals in Fujian Province completed the Chinese version of the Nurses' Moral Courage Scale (NMCS). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, chi‐square test, T‐test, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results: The Chinese nurses perceived themselves, on average, as morally courageous. The mean NMCS score was 3.64 ± 0.692. The six factors showed statistically significant correlations (p < 0.05) with moral courage. Regression analysis showed that the main factors influencing nurses' moral courage were active learning of ethics knowledge and nursing was a career goal. Conclusion: This study provides the self‐evaluation level and related influencing factors of Chinese nurses' moral courage. There is no doubt that nurses still need strong moral courage to face unknown ethical problems and challenges in the future. Nursing managers should pay attention to the cultivation of nurses' moral courage, using various forms of educational activities to help nurses alleviate moral problems and improve their moral courage, to maintain patients' access to high‐quality nursing. To better understand the changes in the atmospheric evaporative demand (AED) in the context of global warming, the anomaly contribution analysis is presented to estimate mid‐long term contributions of meteorological factors to the AED. The Pearson correlation coefficient (RP) between the total contribution (ψ) of meteorological factors and the relative variation (ϕ) of the AED, and the Sen's trend slope (βS) of (ϕ, ψ) scatters are used to evaluate the applicability of the method. The smaller the values of |1 − RP| and |1 − βS|, the more applicable the method is. To validate the method, the reference crop evapotranspiration is employed as a proxy for the AED. The multi‐year contribution analysis is used as a comparison approach, which can only investigate the dominant meteorological factors of the AED in long term. Moreover, the Huaihe River basin of China is taken as a case study. Results show that (a) the values of |1 − RP| and |1 − βS| in mid‐long term are less than 0.1 in most cases when applying the anomaly contribution analysis, and the mid‐long term contribution processes of meteorological factors to the AED are clearly demonstrated; and (b) the wind speed and sunshine hours are the two most dominant factors (the total absolute contribution exceeds 60%) in long term, but they are not always the dominant factors in mid‐long term (e.g., wind speed in summer, and sunshine hours in winter). Therefore, the anomaly contribution analysis is a reasonable and effective method, which can help to gain insights into the changes in the AED. Rapeseed is one of China's major oil crops, and accurate yield forecasting is crucial to the growth of the rapeseed industry and the country's food security. In this study, the data on natural and socio-economic factors from 2001 to 2020 and the yield of rapeseed in China were used as the data basis. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze the relationship between the influencing factors and the yield of rapeseed, and the prediction effect of four machine learning models (linear regression (LR), decision tree (DTR), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM)) on the yield of rapeseed was compared in China's main rapeseed-producing area. The results demonstrate that the yield of rapeseed in China showed an increasing trend, but fluctuated greatly. Rural electricity consumption, gross agricultural production, the net amount of agricultural fertilizer application, effective irrigation area, total power of agricultural machinery, and consumption of agricultural plastic film had a positive effect on the increase in rapeseed yield. However, due to the impact of climate change and disasters, the yield of rapeseed has had significant fluctuations. A Pearson correlation analysis showed that socio-economic factors (rural electricity consumption, gross agricultural production, effective irrigation area, total power of agricultural machinery, consumption of agricultural plastic film, etc.) played a dominant role in rapeseed yield changes. The RF model had a good prediction effect on rapeseed yield, and natural factors and socio-economic factors had different effects on spring rapeseed and winter rapeseed. Winter rapeseed yield was mainly affected by socio-economic factors, accounting for as high as 89% of the importance. Among them, the sown area of rapeseed and the effective irrigation area had the greatest impact. The effects of natural factors and socio-economic factors on spring rapeseed yield were similar, accounting for 47% and 53%, respectively, and the mean annual precipitation, sunshine duration, and sown area of rapeseed were the most influential variables. Icon cognitive impairment is one of the main difficulties for older users to use smart products. This study explores the impact of icon style, icon concreteness and both together on understanding icons by comparing the cognitive differences between two groups of users, young and old. The performance of different types of icons on cognitive performance was analyzed specifically through a comprehensive cognitive load assessment method of behavioral, physiological and subjective data. The results showed that the cognitive performance of skeuomorphism concrete icons was higher and the cognitive load was lower when the user group was novice or older users with less experience in interacting with the GUI; the cognitive performance of flat concrete icons was higher and the cognitive load was lower when the user group was familiar or young users with more experience in interacting with the GUI. From the perspective of cognitive differences between young and old, the results of this study provide a reference for future icon design of interactive interfaces for older people smart terminals to help designers and developers achieve a better user experience for the aging group, which has practical significance for the age-friendly design of graphical interfaces. Biodiversity patterns of microscopic organisms, such as bdelloid rotifers are generally lacking. In this study, bdelloid rotifers from moss and leaf litter habitats were collected from a small area of 14 square kilometres in Changde City, Southern China. Species diversity and habitat preferences were examined using morphological methods. A total of 64 morphological species (including subspecies) were identified, accounting for 65.3% of the bdelloid rotifers recorded in China. The DNA taxonomy of rotifers (Rotaria sordida with no preference and leaf litter-preferring Adineta beysunae) with high Indicator Values (IndVal) identified eight and two cryptic species, respectively, in Changde. The species richness of bdelloid rotifers was significantly (Student's t test, p < 0.01) lower in moss than in leaf litter, and the bdelloid rotifer communities differed significantly (analysis of group similarities, p < 0.01) between moss and leaf litter habitats. Indicator species analysis revealed that A. beysunae had a strong habitat preference (IndVal, p < 0.01). Additionally, Pearson's phi correlation analysis indicated that the cryptic species within the species complex of R. sordida had a weak habitat preference (phi, p < 0.05). Bayesian phylogenetic trees and genetic diversity analyses of R. sordida and A. beysunae indicated that genetic diversity differed between different habitats. These findings indicate high bdelloid rotifer biodiversity with strong habitat preferences between moss and leaf litter habitats at the morphological taxonomy level but weak habitat preferences at the genetic taxonomy level, implying that bdelloid species can be used as indicators of heterogeneous habitats and provide an ecological basis for the discovery and conservation of bdelloid rotifer species diversity. Soil contamination of heavy metals (HMs) caused by the long-term industrial activities has become a major environmental issue due to its adverse effects on human health and ecosystem. In this paper, 50 soil samples were analyzed to evaluate the contamination characteristics, source apportionment and source-oriented health risk of HMs in soils near an old industrial area in NE China by applying an integrated approach of Pearson correlation analysis, Positive matrix factorization (PMF) model and Monte Carlo simulation. The results showed that the mean concentrations of all HMs greatly exceeded the soil background values (SBV), and the surface soils in the study area were heavily polluted with HMs, displaying a very high ecological risk. The toxic HMs emitted from the bullet production were identified as the primary source of HMs contamination in soils, with a contribution rate of 33.3%. The human health risk assessment (HHRA) suggested that the Hazard quotient (HQ) values of all HMs for children and adults are within the acceptable risk level (HQ < 1). The carcinogenic risk (CR) values of HMs for children and adults significantly exceeded the acceptable threshold of 1E-6 with a basic trend: As > Pb > Cr > Co > Ni, indicating a high cancer risk. For source-oriented health risk, the CR of four pollution sources for children and adults shows a same trend: Factor 4 > Factor 3 > Factor 2 > Factor 1. Among those, the source of HMs pollution from bullet production is the largest contributor to cancer risk, and As and Pb are the most important HMs pollutants that cause cancer risk to humans. The present study sheds some light on the contamination characteristics, source apportionment and source-health risk assessment of HMs in industrially contaminated soils, which helps improve the management of environmental risk control, prevention and remediation. Life and the sustainable growth of socioeconomic sectors such as agriculture and industry depend on groundwater, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions where surface water resources are limited. The objectives of the current study are to characterize groundwater chemistry and assess its suitability for industrial usage in the Guanzhong Basin located in the semi-arid region of northwest China. To better understand the hydrogeochemistry in the study area, statistical analysis, ionic plots and Pearson's correlation analysis were conjunctively used. Finally, a novel industrial water quality index (IndWQI) model was developed in this paper to determine the overall industrial water quality based on scaling, corrosion, and foaming coefficients as well as some physicochemical parameters. The contribution of each parameter to the overall industrial water quality was determined using multivariate statistical analysis approaches. The findings reveal that dissolution of minerals such as calcite, dolomite, anhydrite and gypsum regulate the groundwater geochemistry in the study area. In addition, human activities influence the groundwater quality in the study area. According to the novel IndWQI approach, 78.95 % of the confined water samples and 74.51 % of the phreatic water samples have excellent or good quality, and can be safely used for industrial boilers. The geospatial analysis shows that the most contaminated groundwater samples are mainly located in northeast Xi'an and the northeast region of the Guanzhong Basin. The IndWQI model is trustworthy, as it can combine several water quality indices and give an instantaneous impression of the whole groundwater quality for industrial uses. Background: Turnover intention occurs frequently in nurses and psychological empowerment has been shown to be major factors that influence turnover intention. However, little is known about the driving force behind turnover intention among nurses in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objectives: To investigate the mediating role of job satisfaction and emotional exhaustion on the association between psychological empowerment and turnover intention among Chinese nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional design was conducted in China. A total of 507 nurses completed scales of psychological empowerment, job satisfaction, emotional exhaustion and turnover intention anonymously. Descriptive analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis in SPSS 23.0 and structural equation modeling (SEM) by Mplus 7.4 Results: Psychological empowerment had a significantly effect on turnover intention through three significantly indirect pathways: (1) through job satisfaction (B = -0.14, SE =.03, 95% CI = [-.19, -.09]). (2) through emotional exhaustion (B = -0.07, SE =.02, 95% CI = [-.11, -.03]). (3) through the chain mediating effect of "job satisfaction → emotional exhaustion" (B = -0.12, SE =.02, 95% CI = [-.16, -.09]). Conclusions: Intervention measures to reduce the incidence of turnover intention of nurses should include the evaluations of work demands and emotional exhaustion of nurses and organization's management strategies to promote their psychological empowerment and job satisfaction.
