This study aimed to investigate the effects of ultrasound-guided high-dose Shinbaro 2 pharmacopuncture on the pain, dysfunction, and quality of life in patients with low back pain and radiating pain due to an acute herniated intervertebral disc (HIVD). A 39-year-old male patient with low back pain and radiating pain caused by an acute HIVD was treated with Korean and Western integrative medicine, with a focus on ultrasound-guided high-dose Shinbaro 2 pharmacopuncture at Kambin's triangle. The treatment lasted 16 weeks, including a 12-day hospitalization. The low back pain and radiating pain were evaluated using the numeric rating scale (NRS). The lumbar function and quality of life were assessed using the Oswestry disability index (ODI) and the EuroQol five-dimension index (EQ5D). Satisfaction was gauged using the patient global impression of change (PGIC). After treatment, the NRS score decreased from 10 to 1, whereas the ODI and EQ5D scores improved from 84.44 to 28.89 and from 0.303 to 0.871, respectively. The PGIC was rated as 1, indicating considerable improvement. Notably, the changes observed during hospitalization were significant. This report suggests that ultrasound-guided high-dose Shinbaro 2 pharmacopuncture at Kambin's triangle significantly improves the pain, dysfunction, and quality of life in patients with an acute HIVD, demonstrating its potential usefulness among Korean medicine practitioners. Objective: The Non-Opioid Pain Alleviation Information Network (NOPAINMN) project was designed to identify, consolidate, and map evidence-based non-opioid and non-pharmacological pain management complementary and integrative health (CIH) modalities for chronic pain management across Minnesota into a searchable and informational website (www.nopainmn.org ). Methods: The Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine & Health's Pain Task Force White Paper identifying evidence-based research of non-pharmacological pain practice (NPPC) was reviewed and referenced. National and state certifying boards and accrediting organizations for NPPC modalities were accessed to identify Minnesota-based NPPC providers' name, business/health-system affiliation, address, contact information, and credentials. The NOPAINMN website displays these data in a consumer-facing website with searchable fields such as NPPC modality type, and location with varying distances. The website was β-tested by practitioners and stakeholders for optimization. Eight main NPPC modalities and their respective subcategories were identified and mapped: Acupuncture; Integrative Medical Care (Functional medicine consultation and Integrative medicine consultation); Massage Therapy; Mind–Body Therapies (Biofeedback, Clinical Hypnosis, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Music Therapy); Movement Therapies (Tai Chi, qigong, and Yoga Therapy); Psychology (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy); Rehabilitative Therapies (Physical and Occupational Therapy); and Spinal Manipulation. Results: All information compiled resulted in 17,155 providers/practitioners. Physical Therapy had the greatest number of reported providers (n = 5224), followed by Occupational Therapy (n = 3792), Psychology (n = 3324), Chiropractic (n = 3033), Acupuncture (n = 591), and Massage Therapy (n = 544). The Resource Map included 56 major health systems, 686 facilities, 2651 solo or private group practices, and 14 academic training schools. With web-based cross-referencing, providers and facilities were affiliated and linked with health systems to produce an interconnected mapping system. β-Testing with patients found that the website was reported as relatively easy to use and informative. Conclusion: The website was created to assist individuals, health care providers, insurance carriers, and health care facilities in finding evidence-based information and resources on NPPC to guide, support, and proactively manage and engage chronic pain patients across Minnesota. Kinesio taping (KT) is an approach that has been used in the rehabilitation of patients with chronic stroke. The aim of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of KT alone or combined with other interventions for patients with chronic stroke. The search was performed on CENTRAL, EMBASE, PEDro, and five other databases and two trial registries up to July 2022. We included randomized controlled trials that evaluated the effectiveness of KT compared to control interventions. The primary outcomes were upper limb function and gait. We assessed the risk of bias in the included studies using the PEDro scale. The certainty of the evidence was assessed using the GRADE approach. We included 14 RCTs undertaken in six different countries. PEDro score ranged from 4 to 9 points. There is very-low certainty evidence that KT has no effect on gait, balance, and postural control. We found very-low certainty evidence of a slightly benefit when used in addition to other therapies for gait, balance and postural control, and pain intensity. Our study findings show KT does not have enough robust evidence for improving upper limb function, gait, balance and postural control, and pain intensity in chronic stroke patients. Kinesio taping (KT) is a method that has gained popularity among some health professionals to treat patients poststroke. There is very-low certainty evidence that KT alone has no effect on gait, balance and postural control compared to no treatment. There is very-low certainty evidence that KT plus other therapies may be slightly beneficial for gait, balance and postural control, and pain intensity intervention. Objective Vulvodynia is a chronic clinical condition characterized by provoked or non-provoked vulvar pain for at least 3 months of unknown etiology. The onset of vulvodynia involves a complex interplay of peripheral and central pain mechanisms, such as pelvic floor muscle and autonomic dysfunction, and interpersonal factors. A stepwise approach of pelvic floor physical therapy as medical management is suggested. In this scenario, by this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of rehabilitation interventions in patients with vulvodynia. Methods On October 13, 2022, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials that assessed the efficacy of the rehabilitative approach to pain during intercourse in patients with vulvodynia. The quality assessment was performed with the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. The trial registration number is CRD42021257449. At the end of the search, 9 studies were included for a total of 332 patients. A pairwise meta-analysis was performed to highlight the efficacy of rehabilitative approaches for reducing pain during intercourse, as measured with a visual analog scale or a numerical rating scale. Results Meta-analysis showed that all these rehabilitative approaches had an overall effect size of −1.43 (95% CI = −2.69 to −0.17) in decreasing vulvodynia pain in terms of the visual analog scale. In the subgroup analysis, a significant effect size in acupuncture (effect size = −2.36; 95% CI = −3.83 to −0.89) and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (effect size = −2.94; 95% CI = −4.31 to −1.57; I2 = 58%) was observed. According to the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool, a low risk of bias for outcome selection in 89% of studies. Conclusion Findings from this meta-analysis suggested that the physical agent modalities and complementary medicine techniques in people with vulvodynia appear to be more effective than placebo, sham, or waiting list. Further evidence on physical agent modalities and complementary therapies are warranted in the future. Impact This was the first systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to provide evidence on the efficacy of rehabilitation interventions in patients with vulvodynia. * OBJECTIVE: To ascertain whether manipulating contextual effects (eg, interaction with patients, or beliefs about treatments) boosted the outcomes of nonpharmacological and nonsurgical treatments for chronic primary musculoskeletal pain. * DESIGN: Systematic review of randomized controlled trials * DATA SOURCES: We searched for trials in 6 databases, citation tracking, and clinical trials registers. We included trials that compared treatments with enhanced contextual effects with the same treatments without enhancement in adults with chronic primary musculoskeletal pain. * DATA SYNTHESIS: The outcomes of interest were pain intensity, physical functioning, global ratings of improvement, quality of life, depression, anxiety, and sleep. We evaluated risk of bias and certainty of the evidence using Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2.0 and the GRADE approach, respectively. * RESULTS: Of 17 637 records, we included 10 trials with 990 participants and identified 5 ongoing trials. The treatments were acupuncture, education, exercise training, and physical therapy. The contextual effects that were improved in the enhanced treatments were patient-practitioner relationship, patient beliefs and characteristics, therapeutic setting/environment, and treatment characteristics. Our analysis showed that improving contextual effects in nonpharmacological and nonsurgical treatments may not make much difference on pain intensity (mean difference [MD], -1.77; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -8.71, 5.16; k = 7 trials; N = 719 participants; Scale: 0-100; GRADE: Low) or physical functioning (MD, -0.27; 95% CI: -1.02, 0.49; 95% prediction interval [PI]: -2.04, 1.51; k = 6; N = 567; Scale: 0-10; GRADE: Low) in the short term and at later followups. Sensitivity analyses revealed similar findings. * CONCLUSION: While evidence gaps exist, per current evidence, it may not be possible to achieve meaningful benefit for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain by manipulating the context of nonpharmacological and nonsurgical treatments. There is a lack of consensus regarding effective management.Methods: We used Arksey and O’Malley’s five-step method to identify, collate, and evaluate literature published between 2010 and 2023. The scoping review investigated the efficacy or effectiveness of interventions in the management of LPV. The aim of this paper is to map the literature on the efficacy or effectiveness of physical interventions.Results: The review produced 19 primary studies of physical interventions for LPV. These include acupuncture, laser therapy, physiotherapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, low-intensity shockwave therapy, transcranial direct current stimulation, and vestibulectomy.Conclusion: Published studies that investigated a range of physical treatments for LPV showed some positive effects, except for transcranial direct-current stimulation. The remaining modalities demonstrated improved sexual pain and treatment satisfaction, when measured. Findings were mixed for non-sexual pain. There was insufficient evidence to draw conclusions regarding other outcomes. Objective: To review the effectiveness of different physical therapies for acute and sub-acute low back pain supported by evidence, and create clinical recommendations and expert consensus for physiotherapists on clinical prescriptions. Data sources: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed and the Cochrane Library for studies published within the previous 15 years. Review methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis, randomized controlled trials assessing patients with acute and sub-acute low back pain were included. Two reviewers independently screened relevant studies using the same inclusion criteria. The Physiotherapy Evidence Database and the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews tool were used to grade the quality assessment of randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews, respectively. The final recommendation grades were based on the consensus discussion results of the Delphi of 22 international experts. Results: Twenty-one systematic reviews and 21 randomized controlled trials were included. Spinal manipulative therapy and low-level laser therapy are recommended for acute low back pain. Core stability exercise/motor control, spinal manipulative therapy, and massage can be used to treat sub-acute low back pain. Conclusions: The consensus statements provided medical staff with appliable recommendations of physical therapy for acute and sub-acute low back pain. Introduction: Low back pain (LBP) is a common health problem worldwide and the primary cause of years lived with disability. Studies on the non-surgical management approaches for disc-related LBP are sparse and scarce, so a clear and structured guideline in this area would be useful. This study summarizes the non-surgical management approaches for disc-related LBP in a review. Materials and Methods: Intervention studies and review articles relating to the non-surgical approaches for disc-related LBP treatment were curated from PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, and Google Scholar databases before July 1, 2022. Results: Several management approaches are suggested in the studies for disc-related LBP, including medications, acupuncture, lumbar orthoses, exercise therapy, manual therapy, physical therapy modalities, and spinal injections. Some of these options have been studied more, like exercise therapy and injections, and there are more favorable reports for them. Some others have been less studied and need to be investigated in future studies, like different physical therapy modalities. Conclusion: Recommendations are based on low- to moderate-quality evidence or consensus in the management approach studies for disc-related LBP. BACKGROUND: No study has yet demonstrated the effect of lower limb gait rehabilitation robot treatment combined with acupuncture on stroke patients. OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of acupuncture combined with lower limb gait rehabilitation robot on walking function in patients with hemiplegia after stroke. METHODS: Fifty-six patients with hemiplegia after stroke were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups. The control group received regular rehabilitation training and acupuncture therapy; the intervention group was additionally trained by AiWalker-I lower limb gait robot. Both groups received 5 sessions a week for 4 weeks. Walking function parameters were assessed before and after the 4-week treatment. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in all parameters between the two groups in baseline (P > 0.05). After 4 weeks of treatment, all parameters including the effectiveness of functional ambulation category (FAC), time up and go test (TUGT) time, Wisconsin gait scale (WGS) score, walking spatiotemporal parameters were all significantly improved in both groups with a significant better effect in the intervention group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Acupuncture combined with lower limb gait rehabilitation robot training has a positive effect on correction of abnormal gait and improvement of walking ability of hemiplegic patients after stroke. Background: Treatment options for calcific tendinitis (CT) of the shoulder remain controversial. A consensus for an operative indication for this condition is lacking. Purpose: To compare nonoperative versus operative treatment for shoulder CT and analyze factors affecting the prognosis after treatment. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: A total of 180 patients diagnosed with symptomatic CT between January 2017 and September 2021 were evaluated in this retrospective cohort study. There were 103 patients treated nonoperatively at our institution, which included the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, acupuncture, steroid injections, extracorporeal shock wave therapy, and ultrasound-guided needle aspiration/percutaneous irrigation. However, 77 patients were treated with arthroscopic surgery after 6 months of failed nonoperative treatment. The visual analog scale (VAS) for pain, the Constant-Murley score, and imaging were used to assess and evaluate outcomes. Descriptive data, functional outcomes, and imaging findings were compared between the operative and nonoperative groups before and after propensity score matching. Additionally, prognostic factors including calcium deposit size, tendon infiltration by calcium deposits, involvement of single or multiple tendons, and occurrence of rotator cuff tears were analyzed by comparing the groups to determine their effect on treatment options and recovery. Results: Magnetic resonance imaging showed that the supraspinatus tendon (66.7%) was most commonly involved, followed by the infraspinatus (42.8%) and subscapularis (21.1%) tendons. Tendon infiltration by calcium deposits was observed in 84.4% of the patients, and rotator cuff tears occurred in 30.0% of the patients. After propensity score matching, there was no significant difference in changes in the Constant-Murley score (48.1 ± 25.4 vs 49.0 ± 22.8, respectively; P =.950) and VAS score (4.9 ± 2.3 vs 4.5 ± 1.9, respectively; P =.860) between the operative and nonoperative groups at the final follow-up. However, for patients with shoulder CT and without rotator cuff tears, there was a significant difference in changes in the Constant-Murley score (52.93 ± 25.18 vs 42.13 ± 22.35, respectively; P =.012) and VAS score (5.21 ± 2.06 vs 3.81 ± 1.98, respectively; P <.001) between the operative and nonoperative groups, but the recovery time in the operative group was longer than that in the nonoperative group (86.92 ± 138.56 vs 30.42 ± 54.97 days, respectively; P =.016). The results also showed that calcium deposit size, involvement of multiple tendons, and tendon infiltration by calcium deposits did not affect the recovery time after treatment. The survival analysis showed that rotator cuff tears affected the complete recovery of shoulder function. Conclusion: This study demonstrated no significant difference between nonoperative and operative treatment for patients with shoulder CT, on the whole. However, for patients with shoulder CT and without rotator cuff tears, the effect of operative treatment was better than that of nonoperative treatment; yet, operative treatment was shown to prolong the recovery time. Calcium deposit size, tendon infiltration by calcium deposits, and involvement of multiple tendons did not correlate with recovery time or the recovery of function. Background & Objectivs: Today, despite the existence of numerous treatments for tennis elbow, the search for more effective methods continues due to the limited efficacy of these existing approaches. This study aimed to compare the results of tennis elbow treatment in two groups: patients receiving corticosteroid injection and casting, and patients receiving acupuncture and physiotherapy. Materials & Methods: This quasi-experimental study, conducted in Jiroft in 2021, investigated the effectiveness of different treatment approaches for tennis elbow. Fifty patients diagnosed with tennis elbow were randomly divided into two groups of 25 each. One group received a combination of corticosteroids and casts, while the other group received acupuncture and physiotherapy. A pain line was used to assess pain levels based on VAS criteria. Data were analyzed using SPSS-26 statistical software, employing Chi-square, Fisher's Exact, Mann-Whitney, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests. Results: The majority of patients were female (66%) and housewives (46%). There was a significant difference in pain outcomes between the two groups: physiotherapy alone and physiotherapy combined with corticosteroids and casts. This difference was observed across various conditions (pain at rest, pain during activity, and amount of pain evoked during activity) (p <0.05). In simpler terms, corticosteroids and casts were more effective in reducing pain from tennis elbow compared to acupuncture and physiotherapy. Additionally, corticosteroids and casts had a greater effect on hand movement (supination, pronation, extension, and flexion) compared to acupuncture and physiotherapy. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that treatment of tennis elbow with a combination of corticosteroid injection and casting is more effective than acupuncture or physiotherapy alone. Background: There is a continuing interest in finding effective methods for scar treatment. Dry needling is gaining popularity in physiotherapy and is defined by Western medicine as a type of acupuncture. The terms acupuncture and dry needling have been used interchangeably so we have focused on the efficacy of dry needling or acupuncture in scar treatment. Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to determine the usefulness of dry needling or local acupuncture for scar treatment. In our search process, we used the terms 'acupuncture,' 'needling,' or 'dry needling' to identify all relevant scientific papers. We have focused on the practical aspects of local management of different scar types with dry needling or acupuncture. Search strategy: The search strategy included different combinations of the following keywords: 'scar', 'keloid', 'dry needling', 'needling', 'acupuncture', 'treatment', 'physical therapy'. This systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. MEDLINE (PubMed, EBSCOHost and Ovid), EMBASE (Elsevier), and Web of Science databases were searched for relevant publications from inception through October 2023. Inclusion criteria: The studies that investigated the effectiveness of dry needling or acupuncture for scar treatment were included. Data extraction and analysis: The main extraction data items were: the needling technique; needle: diameter, length; needling locations; manual needling manipulation; number of sessions; settings; outcomes and results. Results: As a result of a comprehensive search, 11 manuscripts were included in the systematic review, of which eight were case reports, two were randomized trials and one study concerned case series. Two case reports scored 2–4 out of 8 points on the JBI checklist, five studies scored 5–7, and one study scored 8 points. The methodological quality of the two clinical trials was rated as good or fair on the PEDro scale. The case series study scored 7 of 10 points on the JBI checklist. A meta-analysis was not possible as only two randomized trials, eight case reports, and one case series were eligible for review; also, scar assessment scales and pain severity scales were highly heterogeneous. Conclusions: The studies differed regarding the delivery of dry needling or local acupuncture for scar treatment. Differences included treatment frequency, duration, number of treatments, selection of needle insertion sites, number of needles used, angle of needle placement, and use of manual needling manipulation. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the main causes of lifelong motor impairment and is associated with important secondary complications. Thus, multifaceted treatments are needed for early functional recovery. Currently, in cases of SCI, surgery, stem cell treatment, medication, and physical therapy are used to repair and restore neuronal activity. Additionally, encouraging results have been reported on the use of acupuncture to modulate neuronal plasticity. Here, we present an SCI case involving a burst fracture at the L3 level, which was treated for 21 days using scalp acupuncture with residential physical therapy. Activation of the motor area was observed after the 1st day of treatment, with the patient completely regaining power and range of motion in the knees, Additionally, over 21 days, the patient exhibited markedly improved motor recovery and functional outcomes, which had not been observed over the previous six months. Introduction. Most New Zealanders experience low back pain (LBP) at least once throughout their lifetime and many seek help from the large range of health providers in primary care. Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) funds a significant proportion of those claims, but which services are they funding and what are the costs? Method. This was a retrospective audit and descriptive analysis of ACC-funded, non-public hospital healthcare service use by people with LBP in New Zealand (NZ). Outcome measures were the healthcare services accessed by people with ACC-funded LBP,the claims (all occurrences for a service that has generated a payment/ year), single contact (with a service), and costs (NZ$) for services between 2009 and 2020. Results. The number of claims for services were 129 000 for physiotherapy, 105 000 for general practitioner and 59 000 for radiology services. Per single contact, elective surgery and radiology services were the most expensive. During 2009–2020, there were 3.3 million ACC claims for LBP with a total cost of NZ$4 billion. Over this time, there was an increase in claims, costs and single contacts. Costs decreased slightly during 2010 due to changes in healthcare funding and in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Discussion. Consumers have considerable choice in where they access health care for ACC-funded LBP services. Many updated clinical research results have been published since the Korean Medicine Clinical Practice Guidelines (KMCPGs) for temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) were published in 2018. Therefore, it is necessary to update the existing clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). This study presents updated recommendations for TMD treatment based on current research data published up to February 2020. The draft version of the level of evidence and grade of recommendation was determined through an assessment of the risk of bias and a meta-analysis of selected literature based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). The final guidelines were derived using the Delphi method. Eighteen recommendations were derived for eight items of Korean medicine treatment for TMDs. Compared with previous Korean medicine CPGs for TMDs, the grades of seven recommendations, including acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and Chuna manual therapy, were increased. The grades of the two recommendations have been changed. Six new recommendations were added to fully reflect clinical reality. Acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and Chuna manual therapy are recommended for TMD patients in clinical practice. Concurrent conventional conservative therapy with Korean medicine or a combination of Korean medicines should be considered in clinical practice in patients with temporomandibular disorders. Background: Dysphagia is a common complication in patients with stroke. Although the research on acupuncture treatment of dysphagia has stepped up, the results are still inconsistent. In this review, we intend to answer the potential of acupuncture in treating dysphagia in stroke patients and which acupuncture points are the most promising for treating dysphagia. Methods: We used PRISMA (the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis) 2020 guidelines in conducting this review. A literature search was performed in four databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane, and Willey online library) to find eligible randomized controlled studies that assessed the effect of acupuncture in post-stroke dysphagia. The search time is from 2010 to 2022. Study quality was assessed using the critical appraisal skills program (CASP), and the risk of bias was evaluated by the RoB software, version 2 (risk-of-bias tool). The data were analyzed thematically. Results: A systematic electronic search identified 1409 publications through forward and backward searching of relevant papers. The full-text screening was conducted on 777 articles. A total of 681 articles failed to meet eligibility criteria at this stage, and only 6 articles were finally eligible for further analysis. The results showed that compared with rehabilitation, acupuncture significantly improved dysphagia in post-stroke patients. Gallbladder (GB) 20 is often used as an acupoint. In addition, the frequency and duration of treatment also contributed to a more significant increase in dysphagia improvement. Conclusion: Acupuncture could effectively improve dysphagia in post-stroke patients, and acupuncture combined with rehabilitation has a better effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Blinding in research is important, and the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation poses special consideration owing to the patient populations and treatment methodologies used. Historically, blinding has been increasingly relevant to conducting good-quality research. The main reason to blind is to reduce bias. There are several strategies to blinding. At times, when blinding is not possible, alternatives to blinding include sham control and description of study and control groups. Illustrative examples of blinding used in physical medicine and rehabilitation research are described in this article, along with how to assess success and fidelity of blinding. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a major problem worldwide, which can result in partial or complete loss of sensory function and motor control. Injured people are 2–5 times more likely to suffer premature death than their uninjured counterparts. This case reports the injuries sustained by a 41-year-old woman who jumped from a building being bombed in Kyiv, Ukraine, and her subsequent treatment and recovery. The patient suffered a complete spinal cord injury (SCI), lower distal paraplegia, and dysfunction of pelvic organs, with orthopedist reporting she would likely never walk again. She substantially recuperated after the integration of acupuncture and physical therapy (PT) in her rehabilitation. Utilizing electrical, manual, and scalp acupuncture along with PT, the patient regained full bowel control, improved bladder function, and gained ability to support orthostatic position. Acupuncture is cost effective and easy to perform in hospital settings. It has an important role to play in the rehabilitation of injuries. Introduction: The main goal of the present umbrella review was to provide the most up-todate and evidence-based results regarding the various treatment options for tennis elbow (TE), which hopefully will significantly decrease the confusions existing in the literature. Furthermore, our study differs from past analytical studies because, as to the best of the authors' knowledge, is the first to provide independent (not in comparison to other treatment) statistical results regarding the effectiveness of each TE treatment. Materials and Methods: Major medical databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, BIOSIS, and EBSCO were searched. The overall search process was conducted in 3 stages. Results: A total of 40 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this study. Out of those 40 meta-analyses, a total of 160 primary studies were screened in order to extract the data and perform a statistical analysis. Conclusion: The present umbrella review underlines the efficiency of injection therapies, especially autologous blood, and platelet-rich plasma, while simultaneously proving the ineffectiveness of acupuncture and shock wave therapy as treatments for TE. Background: Adhesive capsulitis is a progressive, idiopathic disorder that significantly impacts individuals? daily lives and increases their medical burden. Pharmacopuncture therapy, which combines acupuncture techniques with herbal medicine, involves injecting herbal extracts into specific acupoints. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and safety of pharmacopuncture therapy in comparison to physiotherapy (PT) for treating adhesive capsulitis Methods: This research protocol outlines a two-arm, parallel, multi-center, pragmatic randomized controlled trial. Fifty participants will be randomly allocated to either the pharmacopuncture therapy or PT group, and they will receive 12 sessions of their respective therapies over a 6-week period. The primary outcome measure is the numeric rating scale for shoulder pain. Secondary outcomes include the visual analog scale score for shoulder pain, Shoulder Pain and Disability Index, Patients? Global Impression of Change score, Short Form-12 Health Survey Version 2 score, and EuroQol-5 Dimension. Statistical analysis will be conducted based on the intention-to-treat principle. Discussion: This trial may offer high-quality and reliable clinical evidence for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of pharmacopuncture therapy compared to PT in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis. The present review was aimed to indicate the existing effectiveness of kinesio taping (KT) use in stroke patients with shoulder symptoms. The literature search was carried out in PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science (WoS) databases. The quality assessment was accomplished using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. A narrative synthesis was conducted to present the results. Thirteen studies were included in the study. The contribution of the KT to internal and external range of motion (ROM), specifically flexion and abduction, was emphasized. KT's additional advantages to reducing pain, spasticity, and increasing motor function (including electromyography findings) were highlighted. Function scores and stroke staging of the individuals were improved with reducing the severity of the subluxation and a more stable shoulder joint. Increasingly, patients suffering from subjective tinnitus seek help from physical therapists. Numerous randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have investigated the effect of physical interventions commonly used in physical therapy practice on subjective tinnitus. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to analyse the effects of physical interventions on tinnitus loudness, tinnitus annoyance, and scores on the Tinnitus Handicap Index (THI). Four databases were searched from inception up to March 2022. A total of 39 RCTs were included in the systematic review, and 23 studies were appropriate for meta-analyses. Risk of bias assessments were also performed. Interventions analysed in at least five studies were summarised, including transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), laser therapy, and acupuncture. Random-effects meta-analysis models were used, and effect sizes were expressed as Hedge's standardised mean differences (SMD) with 95%CI's. The quality of three-quarters of the studies was limited due to insufficient allocation concealment, lack of adequate blinding, and small sample sizes. Large, pooled effects sizes were found for acupuncture (SMD: 1.34; 95%CI: 0.79, 1.88) and TENS (SMD: 1.17; 95%CI: 0.48, 1.87) on THI as well as for acupuncture on tinnitus loudness (VAS Loudness (SMD: 0.84; 95%CI: 0.33, 1.36) and tinnitus annoyance (SMD: 1.18; 95%CI: 0.00, 2.35). There is some evidence that physical interventions (TENS and acupuncture, but not laser therapy) may be effective for tinnitus. Purpose: To compare local acupuncture and auricular acupuncture with physiotherapy in the treatment of frozen shoulder. Methods: A randomized clinical trial with 3 parallel groups in an outpatient clinic was conducted at a university hospital. In total, 116 participants with frozen shoulder were randomly allocated to 3 groups and underwent physiotherapy or local acupuncture or auricular acupuncture. Shoulder active and passive ranges of motion were assessed, and the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index questionnaire was used to assess pain and disability before and after the treatments. Results: Active and passive ranges of motion were best improved by physiotherapy in abduction and flexion (all P <.001). Passive external rotation was best increased after physiotherapy (P =.030). For active external and internal rotation, and also for passive internal rotation, there were no significant differences among the treatments. Pain reduction was more successful with acupuncture, especially with auricular acupuncture (P <.001). Auricular acupuncture was more effective in improving patients' functional abilities (P <.001). None of the participants reported any side effects resulting from the treatments. Conclusion: Acupuncture, particularly auricular acupuncture, is more effective in relieving pain and decreasing disability than physiotherapy. Background: Acupuncture is an ancient technique that, when applied to specific points on the body, triggers physiological responses in the muscle. Studies with surface electromyography (EMG) began to correlate the electrical activity of skeletal striated muscles with acupuncture points, but there are still few studies with evidence. Objective: To analyze the immediate effect of auricular acupuncture on the EMG activity and muscle strength of trapezium descending fibers. Methods: Clinical and prospective study, composed of a sample of 15 individuals, in which they participated in three stages: stage 1 corresponding to control, stage 2 - corresponding intervention and stage 3 corresponding to placebo. The instruments used for evaluation were surface EMG and dynamometry of the trapezius muscle descending bilaterally during maximal voluntary isometric contraction. For the intervention, semipermanent needles were inserted into the auricular acupoints: Shemmen, Kidney, Sympathetic, shoulder and shoulder joint and to the placebo - the needle was inserted at the point of the trachea. The experiment was performed with a fixed interval of seven days between steps. The t-test and the Wilcoxon test were used for intragroup comparisons and the two-way ANOVA test for intergroup comparison. Results: There were significant intragroup reductions in trapezius muscle strength for downward intervention, however, for EMG activity there was no statistical difference. Objective: Chronic pain is one of the most detrimental symptoms exhibited by cancer patients, being an indication for opioid therapy in up to half of the patients' receiving chemotherapy and in 90% of advanced cases. Various successful non-pharmacological integrative therapy options have been explored and implemented to improve the quality of life in these patients. This review aims to highlight the mechanisms implicated; assessment tools used for cancer pain and summarize current evidence on non-pharmacological approaches in the treatment of chronic cancer pain. Data sources: A review of the literature was conducted using a combination of MeSH keywords including "Chronic cancer pain," "Assessment," "Non-pharmacological management," and "Integrative therapy." Data summary: Data on the approach and assessment of chronic cancer pain as well as non-pharmacological integrative options have been displayed with the help of figures and tables. Of note, non-pharmacological integrative management was divided into three subcategories; physical therapy (involving exercise, acupuncture, massage, and transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation), psychosocial therapy (e.g. mindful practices, supportive therapy), and herbal supplementation. Conclusions: The use of non-pharmacological integrative therapy in the management of chronic cancer pain has been grossly underestimated and must be considered before or as an adjuvant of other treatment regimens to ensure appropriate care. Objective: To explore the mechanism of intracavitary physiotherapy combined with acupuncture to improve the receptivity of thin endometrium.Methods: From October 2020 to April 2021, 40 patients diagnosed with thin endometrium and preparing for hormone replacement cycle freeze-thaw embryo transfer in our centre for Reproduction were included, 40 patients were randomized to treatment group and control group. 20 patients with normal endometrium during the same period were selected as the normal group.All patients underwent freeze-thaw embryo transfer using hormone replacement cycles.The treatment group added endovascular physiotherapy combined with acupuncture.Results: The endometrial receptivity of the patients with thin endometrium was significantly lower than that of the normal group(P < 0.01). Endovascular therapy combined with acupuncture can significantly increase endometrial thickness in patients with thin endometrium and the proportion of patients with type A endometrium, reduce bilateral Uterine arterial pulsatilityindex (PI), Uterine arterial resistance index (RI), and peaksystolicvelocity/diastolicvelocity (S/D), upregulate the expression of HOXA10 protein and mRNA in endometrium tissue, and improve the rate of embryo implantation and clinical pregnancy(P < 0.01).there was no significant difference between the treatment group and the normal group (P > 0.05). This may be related to the regulation of the AMPK/mTOR signalling pathway by intracavitary physiotherapy combined with acupuncture, downregulation of the expression of the AMPK gene and protein and upregulation of the expression of the mTOR gene and protein.Conclusions: 1. Abnormal energy metabolism is present in the endometrium of patients with thin endometrium, which affects the autophagy process and leads to a decrease in the receptivity of thin endometrium. 2. Intracavitary physiotherapy combined with acupuncture mediated the AMPK/mTOR pathway to improve energy metabolism, promote the autophagy process, improve endometrial morphology and ultrasonic indicators of patients, upregulate the expression of endometrial receptivity-related HOXA10 genes and proteins, and improve the embryo implantation rate and clinical pregnancy rate. Abstract Background Physiotherapists (PTs) across the globe are increasingly incorporating filiform needling techniques (e.g., acupuncture, dry needling) into their clinical toolkits; and, the evidence base for these complementary therapies is becoming progressively more robust. However, to date, little is known about needling PTs themselves. Methods Using a cross-sectional survey design, PTs authorized to perform needling therapies in Ontario, Canada were recruited for anonymous participation (n = 2061) in an online survey. The survey asked providers about their demographics and practice characteristics, rationale for and views about therapeutic needling, and their related clinical and professional outcomes. The response rate was 20.7% (n = 426), and 22.3% (n = 95) of respondents provided textual responses to an open-ended qualitative question. Results While study respondents’ demographic features appear similar to their broader professional population, Ontario’s needling PTs are less likely to work in public sector settings. Most completed training in medical acupuncture rather than dry needling, and typically used needling in over one-third of patient visits. Almost all endorsed needling as an effective musculoskeletal treatment, the primary factor informing their adoption of the practice. While many viewed traditional Chinese medical theories as a useful explanatory framework, most relied on biomedical epistemology to drive their needling work. A majority of respondents reported that the inclusion of needling within their clinical toolkits had improved their likelihood of achieving excellent clinical results, helped support patient recruitment and retention, and heightened their professional satisfaction. While a few reported earning a higher income as a result, most reported that their clinical use of needling in addition to other PT modalities reduced their physical fatigue after a day’s work. Conclusions This study represents a first scholarly investigation into the motivations, training backgrounds and practice patterns of PTs who use acupuncture or dry needling. Additional research from other jurisdictions is needed to evaluate the transferability of study findings.

Korean healthcare service is divided into conventional medicine and traditional Korean medicine (TKM). This cross-sectional study compared the older population (65 years and older) with two groups of the general population (19–50 years and 51–64 years) to understand the current patterns in the use of TKM services by the older population. Using data from the 2017 National Survey of TKM Usage, we analyzed the main purpose and diseases or symptoms for TKM use, the reason for choosing TKM over other types of medicine, and the treatments provided. Both age groups sought TKM services to "[treat] a disease". The top five diseases and symptoms in the older adult (65 and older) group were musculoskeletal and are as follows: arthritis and joint diseases (37.8%, n = 166), disc-related diseases (25.5%, n = 112), back pain (8.4%, n = 37), frozen shoulder and shoulder pain (7.7%, n = 34), and sprain (5.9%, n = 26). The most frequently used treatments for these diseases were acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and physiotherapy. The present study suggests that older adults primarily used TKM clinics for the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases. Further studies are necessary to assess the clinical effectiveness of conventional medicine versus TKM versus a combination of both in treating musculoskeletal disorders. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Target. The purpose of this study is to explore the reduction of sports injury risk and verify the effective methods and means of athlete's muscle injury rehabilitation. Methods. In this study, 80 sanda athletes from a university were randomly selected as subjects, and the main parts of injury of all subjects were counted. After 12 weeks of muscle injury rehabilitation intervention, the pain, acute injury, and technical and tactical evaluation levels of subjects in the intervention group and the control group were compared. Results/Discussion. The overall performance of the 80 subjects' basic exercise ability was at a moderate level, and there was no significant difference between male and female subjects (P >0.05). After 12 weeks of rehabilitation intervention, there was no significant difference in the scores of shoulder joint flexibility, supine straight leg raising, and trunk stable support between male and female subjects in the intervention group in more than 7 sports (P >0.05). In the control group, there were significant differences in the scores of shoulder flexibility and trunk stability of male and female subjects (P < 0.05). Future research should further explore the effect of muscle injury rehabilitation on effectively reducing potential sports injuries and introduce advanced and effective medical rehabilitation methods. Introduction: This network meta-analysis aimed to assess the efficacy of acupuncture, intravenous lidocaine, and diet compared with other comparators such as physiotherapy and sham/placebo in fibromyalgia patients. Materials and Methods: We searched Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science for relevant studies till September 2021. The included studies were randomized controlled clinical trials. For the network meta-analysis, we used the R software. Results: There were 23 included RCTs. The total sample size was 1409 patients. Compared with the sham/placebo group, the network analysis showed the highest improvement in the quality of life in the acupuncture group standardized mean difference (SMD) = −10.28, 95%-CI [−14.96; −5.59]), and then in the physiotherapy group (SMD = −7.48, 95%-CI [−14.72; −0.23]). For the pain, there was a significant reduction with acupuncture (SMD = −1.69, 95%-CI [−2.48; −0.89]), compared with sham/placebo. Regarding depression, it showed a significant reduction with acupuncture (SMD = −9.64, 95%-CI [−16.13; −3.14]) compared with sham/placebo. Finally, for stiffness, it showed no significant differences in the stiffness between acupuncture (SMD = −8.52, 95%-CI [−20.40; 3.36]), fluoxetine (SMD = −6.52, 95%-CI [−29.65; 16.61]), and physiotherapy (SMD = −4.64, 95%-CI [−22.83; 13.54]) compared with sham/placebo. Conclusions: The acupuncture showed a significant effect in the management of fibromyalgia patients. It reduced pain, depression, and enhanced the quality of life. While physiotherapy showed a significant improvement in the quality of life only. In contrast, intravenous lidocaine and diet showed no significant differences when compared with sham/placebo. Background: Low back pain (LBP) is currently a major reason for disability worldwide. Therapeutic massage is one of the most popular non-pharmacological methods for managing chronic LBP (CLBP), and the Fateh method is a massage technique based on Iranian Traditional Medicine. Objectives: The current study aimed to compare the effects of Fateh massage with those of acupuncture and physiotherapy on relieving pain and disability in CLBP. Methods: Eighty-four patients with CLBP were categorized into groups that received Fateh massage, acupuncture, or physiotherapy. Each group included 28 randomly assigned patients who completed 10 sessions of therapy. Visual analogue scale (VAS) scores and Roland-Morris disability scores were evaluated at baseline, after intervention, and four weeks later. The findings were analyzed with SPSS software. Results: The baseline VAS and Roland-Morris scores of the three study groups did not indicate significant differences (p > 0.05). All three groups showed significant pre-post improvements in both scores (p < 0.05). At the end of the treatment sessions, the three groups showed no significant difference in the reductions in pain intensity and disability score (p = 0.05). Improvements in disability and pain between the first and third time points were significant in all three groups (p < 0.05 for each group). In addition, the results of massage, physiotherapy, and acupuncture groups were not significantly different (p > 0.05). No adverse events occurred in the patients. Purpose: To determine the efficacy of physical therapy interventions on quality of life (QoL) and pain severity in post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS). Methods: Multiple databases were searched from database inception to October 2020. Searches were limited to human studies published in either English or Chinese in peer-reviewed journals with full text available for randomized controlled trials conducted on females. Trials comparing the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions against control conditions on QoL and pain were included. Results: Eighteen trials were included in the review. The pooled analysis of the four exercise trials revealed a significant effect of the intervention on general [standardized mean difference [SMD]: 0.87 (95%CI: 0.36, 1.37); p = 0.001], physical [SMD: 0.34 (95%CI: 0.01, 0.66); p = 0.044], and mental health components [SMD: 0.27 (95%CI: 0.03, 0.51); p = 0.027] of QoL compared with the control condition. Meta-analyses of six exercise trials, two myofascial release trials, and two acupuncture trials revealed a significant improvement in pain severity in the treatment group than in the control group. However, meta-analyses of two studies revealed a non-significant effect of compression therapy compared to control on pain severity. Conclusion: Our meta-analyses found that exercise is beneficial for improving the QoL and pain severity of women with PMPS. Future studies are needed to determine the optimal parameters for exercise interventions designed to improve QoL and pain severity in women with PMPS. The effect of acupuncture, myofascial release, and compression therapy remains inconclusive, and future research is required to validate the effect of these interventions on PMPS. Introduction: Nowadays, a set of novel physiotherapy techniques have emerged, in which the physical agent used to try to reduce spasticity is applied percutaneously, specifically, through the patient's skin. The aim of this work is to encompass all the invasive techniques used in spasticity in a single article, updating the existing bibliography. Methodology: A systematic review was carried out between December 2020 and April 2021 in the Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed databases, selecting the clinical trials that used acupuncture, electroacupuncture or dry needling as a treatment for spasticity. Sixteen clinical trials were included, summarizing all the study characteristics and the outcome measures, at last the evidence was described for their results. Results: Most of the studies find a difference of significant decrease in spasticity between the subjects of the experimental groups. Only four studies found no significant changes in spasticity. All the studies are carried out together with the conventional physiotherapy treatment in spasticity. Conclusion: Treatment with invasive physiotherapy, combined with conventional physiotherapy, seems to have positive effects in reducing spasticity, although more studies are needed to improve the heterogeneity of the interventions and to assess their long-term effectiveness. Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is described by an intense burning sensation of the tongue or other oral areas without a clear etiopathology. The diagnosis of BMS is challenging due to variations of manifestations. The management of BMS is complicated due to the complex etiology of the disease. Many medications and treatment methods have been recommended for BMS management, but no one confirmed as the standard method. In this study, the therapeutic approaches of BMS were evaluated. The data of the article was obtained from PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. The following terms including "burning mouth syndrome", "therapy", and "treatment" were used for search in the databases. A wide range of articles about the therapeutic approach of BMS was searched and reviewed. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches have been used for BMS management. Pharmacological treatments are including Capsaicin, Clonazepam, Low-dose aripiprazole, Alpha-lipoic acid, Duloxetine, Amitriptyline, Gabapentin, and Pregabalin, and ultra-micronized palmitoylethanolamide. Non-pharmacological therapies for BMS are cognitive therapy, Electroconvulsive therapy, Laser therapy, Acupuncture and auriculotherapy, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), Salivary Mechanical Stimulation, and Botulinum Toxin. Background: Pain after spinal cord injury (SCI) is common, and physiotherapy plays a pivotal role in alleviating pain for people with SCI. Objective: To determine the modalities that physiotherapists in South Africa use to treat SCI-related pain and the factors that guide the selection of treatment modalities. Method: A quantitative, cross-sectional design using a self-developed online survey was distributed to physiotherapists belonging to the South African Society of Physiotherapy and the Physiotherapy Association of South Africa. Data were analysed using SPSS v26, where descriptive data were analysed using frequency, percentages, means and standard deviations, and Fisher's exact tests for inferential analyses. Open-ended questions underwent thematic analysis. Results: Forty-six responses were received. The most-used modalities were transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (29.8%), exercises (27.7%) and joint mobilisations (29.8%). Most physiotherapists used standardised measurements to objectively assess pain characteristics, with the visual analog scale being the most used (70.2%). Except for the cost of treatment, the factors that guided the selection of the modalities included the pain type, onset, duration, location and intensity, pain interference, duration of treatment, patient's preferences, other treatments that the patient was receiving for pain and psychosocial factors (87.2%). Conclusions: Local physiotherapists use pain management modalities that are supported by the evidence to treat SCI-related pain. Clinical implications: This study highlights the common modalities used by physiotherapists to treat SCI-related pain, as well as the selection criteria for the modalities. Background: Chronic Neck Pain (CNP) is one of the main contributing factors to disability in people of working age. Objectives: The aim of this randomized clinical trial was to compare the efficacy between acupuncture and joint mobilization on pain and disability in patients with CNP. Methods: The study involved 45 men and women with CNP, divided into three groups of 15 each. The first group followed a manual therapy protocol with joint mobilization for eight weeks three times per week. The second group followed an acupuncture protocol of equal duration and frequency, while the third group did not follow any treatment. Pain with the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain and functional limitations with the Neck Disability Index (NDI) questionnaire were assessed before and after an 8-week intervention. Analysis of variance was applied while post-hoc comparisons were made to determine the differences among the groups at each time of measurement. Results: Both intervention groups showed statistically significant differences compared to the control group after the end of the intervention in both the VAS and the NDI scores (p < .001). Furthermore, the acupuncture group showed a statistically significant improvement compared to the joint mobilization team after the end of the intervention in the VAS score (p < .001) and the NDI score (p < .05). Conclusion: Both joint mobilization and acupuncture appear to be effective interventions in reducing pain and improving functional ability in people with CNP. Objective. Physical therapy combined with acupuncture is the current research hotspot in the treatment of poststroke cognitive impairment, but which combination treatment is the best is still controversial. Based on the network meta-analysis method, we evaluated the efficacy of various physical therapies combined with acupuncture for the treatment of poststroke cognitive impairment. Methods. We retrieved diverse randomized controlled trials of various physical therapies combined with acupuncture for the treatment of cognitive dysfunction after stroke. We selected studies, extracted data, and evaluated the risk of literature bias for the included randomized controlled trials. We used STATA 14.0 for the current network meta-analysis. Results. Fifteen randomized controlled trials involving 1288 patients were included, which involved 7 treatment plans that included 3 control treatment plans and 4 acupuncture treatment plans combined with physical therapy. The best treatment plan for improving the Mini-Mental State Examination score of poststroke cognitive impairment is acupuncture combined with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The best treatment option for improving the Montreal Cognitive Assessment score of poststroke cognitive impairment is acupuncture combined with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The best option for improving the Barthel index score of poststroke cognitive impairment is acupuncture combined with transcranial magnetic stimulation. In terms of improving the overall clinical effectiveness of poststroke cognitive impairment, the best treatment option is acupuncture combined with transcranial magnetic stimulation. Conclusion. The analysis of all the results shows that acupuncture combined with hyperbaric oxygen therapy can significantly improve poststroke cognitive impairment compared with other combined treatments. However, due to the overall quality and quantity of the included studies, more randomized controlled trials focusing on clinical research on acupuncture combined with physical therapy for poststroke cognitive impairment are required to support the current evidence. Objective: To evaluate the effects of Physical Therapies (PTs) on improvement in psychosomatic symptoms and quality of life (QOL) in breast cancer patients. Data Sources: Seven databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane CENTRAL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wangfang, VIP, and China Biology Medicine disc databases) were systematically searched from the database inception through May 18, 2021. Study Selection: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which compared acupuncture or exercise with a sham control or usual care for the treatment of aromatase inhibitors (AIs)-related psychosomatic symptoms and QOL. Data Extraction and Synthesis: Data were screened and extracted independently using predesigned forms. The quality of RCTs was assessed with the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. The effect size was calculated via random-effects modeling. The quality of evidence was evaluated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach. Main Outcomes and Measures: The score of pain was measured with BPI scale and Western Ontario and the McMaster Universities Index (WOMAC) scale. Emotional state was measured with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-A), and Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-Fatigue). The QOL score was measured by self-reported measurements, including the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) scale and 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36) scale. Results: Eleven RCTs (with 830 patients) were included in the systematic review, and data from 10 RCTs (with 798 patients) were used in the meta-analysis. Results showed acupuncture significantly reduced worst pain scores (P < 0.00001, I 2 = 83.5%) [SMD = −0.81, 95% CI (−1.51, −0.11)], but the effect of exercise therapies was not significant in overall change in worst pain scores (P =0.006, I 2 = 72.3%) [SMD = −0.30, 95% CI (−0.76, 0.16)]. Both acupuncture and exercise resulted in little to no difference in overall change in HADS-A subscale (P = 0.026<0.05, I 2 = 79.8%) [WMD = −0.21, 95% CI (−3.44, 3.03)], PSQI subscale (P = 0.488, I 2 = 0%) [WMD = 0.98, 95% CI (−0.57, 2.53)], and FACIT-Fatigue subscale (P = 0.022<0.05, I 2 = 81.0%) [WMD = 1.6, 95% CI (−5.75, 8.94)]. Exercise (compared with usual care) was associated with improving overall change in health-related QOL (subscales of SF-36 tool) (P = 0, I 2 = 72.1%) [WMD = 7.97, 95% CI (5.68, 10.25)] and cancer-specific QOL (subscales of FACT-G tool) (P = 0.304, I 2 = 16%) [WMD = 1.16, 95% CI (0.34, 1.97)]. Conclusions and Relevance: This systematic review and meta-analysis suggested that based on moderate-level evidence, acupuncture was associated with significant reductions in pain intensity, and exercise might improve QOL in breast cancer patients treated with AIs.
