3. High field transport in strained Si/GeSi double heterostructure: A Fokker Planck approach

Calculations of high electric field transport for strained Si/GeSi double heterostructure (DHS) along with Si channel and by applying the analytical Fokker Planck approach (FPA) to drift diffusion in energy space are discussed. Results show good agreement between DHS and Monte Carlo simulations.

4. Electroelastic flexural vibrations of a laminated plate

Considerable research attention has been focused on vibrations in piezoelectric laminated composites because of the increasing use of piezoelectric transducer in ultrasonic devices. A study was conducted to investigate the electroelastic behavior of a laminated composite composed of piezoelectric polycrystal ceramics with 6 mm symmetry. Among other results, it was found that resonance frequency declines with the radius increment and increases with the thickness and number of layers increment.

A general mathematical treatment was used in the analysis of wave propagation in layered piezoelectric structures putting special emphasis on semiconductor layered systems. The treatment is based on the application of macroscopic physics of continuous media and is valid for application on long wavelength. Results, in the form of propagating piezoelectric waves along the structure, are discussed.

Earlier measurements at LEP of isolated hard photons in hadronic Z decays, attributed to radiation from primary quark pairs, have been extended in the ALEPH experiment to include hard photon production inside hadron jets. Events are selected where all particles combine democratically to form hadron jets, one of which contains a photon with a fractional energy z greater than or equal to 0.7. After statistical subtraction of non-prompt photons, the quark-to-photon fragmentation function, D(z), is extracted directly from the measured 2-jet rate. By taking into account the perturbative contributions to D(z) obtained from an O(alpha alpha(s)) QCD calculation, the unknown non-perturbative component of D(z) is then determined at high z. Provided due account is taken of hadronization effects near z = 1, a good description of the other event topologies is then found.
