Abstract

The AMADEUS Collaboration conducts research aimed to experimentally investigate the low-energy K− hadronic interactions with light nuclei like hydrogen, helium, and carbon, in order to provide new constraints to the antikaon-nucleon strong interaction studies in the non-perturbative quantum chromodynamics regime. K− nuclear absorption, both at-rest and in-flight, are explored using the unique low-momentum and monochromatic kaon beam from the DAΦNE collider interacting with the KLOE detector components, a detector characterized by high acceptance and excellent position and momentum resolutions. This paper presents an overview of the AMADEUS results.

Abstract

A coupled-channel S- and P-wave next-to-leading order chiral-unitary approach for strangeness S = −1 meson-baryon scattering is extended to include the new data from the KLOE and AMADEUS experiments as well as the Λπ mass distribution of the Σ(1385). The positions of the poles on the second Riemann sheet corresponding to the Σ(1385) pole and the Λ(1380) and Λ(1405) poles as well as the couplings of these states to various channels are calculated. We find that the resonance positions and branching ratios are on average determined with about 20% higher precision when including the KLOE and AMADEUS data. Additionally, for the first time, the correlations between the parameters of the poles are investigated and shown to be relevant. We also find that the Σ(1385) has negligible influence on the properties of the Λ states given the available data. Still, we identify isospin-1 cusp structures in the present solution in light of new measurements of π±Λ line-shapes by the Belle collaboration.

Abstract

We celebrate the legacies of our friend and mentor Professor Lianshou Liu who was one of the pioneers for the phenomenology of multi-particle interactions and initiated the physics of relativistic heavy-ion collisions in China. In this article, we discuss some of the recent exciting experimental observations on the collective phenomena including collectivity, chirality, criticality, strangeness production, and thermal equilibrium in high-energy nuclear collisions. Future directions, especially the physics at high baryon density, will be discussed with a focus on the first-order phase boundary and hyperon–nucleon interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In this paper we measured invariant transverse momentum spectra and nuclear modification factors of K*(892)-mesons in Cu + Au collisions at √(s_NN ) = 200 GeV. The measurements were performed in five centrality bins in the range of transverse momentum from 2,0 to 5,75 GeV/c in the PHENIX experiment on the RHIC. Nuclear modification factors were compared with previously obtained PHENIX data in Cu + Cu collisions at √(s_NN ) = 200 GeV. The nuclear modification factors of K*-mesons in Cu + Cu and Cu + Au collisions at the same values of a number of participants (N_part) have a similar shape.

Abstract

Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is the branch of fundamental particle physics that studies the strong interaction, which is responsible for binding quarks and gluons into the familiar protons and neutrons that compose almost all ordinary matter. One of the most exciting predictions of this theory is the existence of a new state of matter, known as the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). At extreme temperatures and densities, protons and neutrons dissolve into their constituent quarks and gluons, forming a soup-like plasma of deconfined partons. This QGP is thought to have existed in the early universe, thus studying its formation and properties can help answer questions about the evolution of the universe and the nature of the strong force. However, recreating the extreme conditions of the early universe can be achieved by smashing together heavy nuclei at very high energies. This can only be done at the world’s most powerful particle accelerators. Unfortunately, QGP produced in these collisions only lasts for around 10⁻²³ seconds, making it impossible to study the plasma directly. Instead, there are a few key experimental observables that are associated with the characteristics of this plasma which can be studied. One such signature of QGP formation is known as strangeness enhancement, where the production of strange quarks within the QGP is enhanced relative to the standard up and down quarks that compose protons and neutrons. Previously believed to be unique to heavy-ion collisions, recent measurements have indicated that this enhancement is also present in high multiplicity proton-proton (pp) and proton-lead (p–Pb) systems as well. These measurements hint at the formation of a QGP in these smaller collision systems, calling into question the prediction that the formation of this plasma is only possible in heavy-ion collisions. While statistical and phenomenological models are capable of describing this enhancement in these smaller collision systems, the microscopic origins of strangeness enhancement are not well understood. Jets, which are streams of hadrons produced by an initial hard scattering of the partons within the colliding nuclei, can be used to illuminate the underlying processes that produce these strange particles. By measuring the angular correlation between a high-momentum trigger hadron (as a proxy for a jet axis) and a lower momentum strange hadron, it is possible to differentiate the strangeness-producing mechanisms between hard (jet-like) and soft (underlying event) processes. This angular correlation technique can be used to study the production of strangeness as a function of multiplicity in these regimes, giving insight into the origins of the observed enhancement. This thesis presents the first results utilizing azimuthal angular correlations to measure the production of Λ baryons—which are composed of an up, a down, and a strange quark (uds)—in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV using the ALICE detector at the LHC. The correlation measurements are used to extract the Λ jet-like and underlying event yields, as well as obtain the widths of the jets to provide more context for the observed jet production. These results are studied as a function of the Λ momentum and collision multiplicity, which are used to quantify the enhancement of strange quark production in these different kinematic regimes. Comparisons with theoretical predictions are also made to provide a framework for interpreting the results of this thesis. Moreover, these yield measurements are compared with published measurements of the ϕ(1020) meson (ss̄), which utilized similar techniques, to investigate the differences between open (|S| > 1) and hidden (|S| = 0) strangeness production. These strange measurements provide new insight into the production of strangeness in smaller collision systems, thus further constraining the microscopic origins of strangeness enhancement.

38. Probing Quark-Gluon Plasma and Chiral Effects in Heavy-Ion Collisions: Measurements of Strangeness ($\Omega$ and $\phi$) Production and Identified Particle Correlation in Au+Au Collisions at STAR/RHIC

Abstract

Ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collision produces an extremely hot and dense medium of de-confined quarks and gluons, which is called Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). The STAR detector at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) provides powerful experimental capabilities to probe the properties of this new form of matter, as well as novel quantum effects induced by the restoration of fundamental symmetry in qauntum-chromdynamics (QCD). Towards these goals, two research projects have been carried out at STAR/RHIC and will be presented in this thesis: 1) Measurement of mid-rapidity ($|y|19.6$ GeV) results in $p_T$ range from $2.0-3.0$ GeV/c, which may imply a transition of created medium whose underlying dominant degrees of freedom change from quarks/gluons to hadrons as collision energy goes below 19.6 GeV. %whose underlying dominant degrees of freedom change from quarks/gluons to hadrons as...With excellent particle identification capability of STAR, a systematic search for the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME) via measurements of $\gamma_{112}$ correlation and $\kappa_K$ parameter for identified particle pairs ($\pi\pi$, $pK$, $\pi K$, $pp$, $p\pi$) in Au+Au collisions has been conducted. The $\kappa_K$ results are compared to expectations from the \textit{A Multi-Phase Transport Model} (AMPT) simulations. Except $\pi\pi$ and $pp$ correlations, the CME signals from other particle pairs are consistent with background model. $\kappa_K$ from $\pi\pi$ shows higher values than background expectation, while the result for $pp$ is even lower than the background, which requires further investigation. %A study of $\gamma_{112}$ and $\delta$ correlations for $\Lambda p$ in Au+Au 27 GeV shows that in mid-central and mid-peripheral collisions, baryon numbers are separated across reaction plane, which is consistent with the Chiral Vortical Effect (CVE) expectation. To search for Chiral Vortical Effect (CVE), a measurement of $\gamma_{112}$ and $\delta$ correlations for $\Lambda p$ pairs in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=27$ GeV was carried out and the results show that the CVE induced baryon number separation may exist in mid-central and mid-peripheral collisions with little contamination from flowing resonance decay background. Future development of searches for the chirality effect in heavy ion collisions will also be discussed.

40. Electroproduction of baryon–meson states and strangeness suppression

Abstract

We describe the electroproduction ratios of baryon–meson states from nucleon, inferring from the sea quarks in the nucleon using an extension of the quark model that takes into account the sea. As a result we provide, with no adjustable parameters, the predictions of ratios of exclusive meson–baryon final states: ΛK+, Σ⁎K, ΣK, pπ0, and nπ+. These predictions are in agreement with the new JLab experimental data showing that sea quarks play an important role in the electroproduction. We also predicted further ratios of exclusive reactions that can be measured and tested in future experiments. In particular, we suggested new experiments on deuterium and tritium. Such measurements can provide crucial tests of different predictions concerning the structure of nucleon and its sea quarks helping to solve an outstanding problem. Finally, we compute the so called strangeness suppression factor, λs, that is the suppression of strange quark–antiquark pairs compared to nonstrange pairs, and we found that our finding with this simple extension of the quark model is in good agreement with the results of JLab and CERN experiments.

41. Production of multistrange hadrons, light nuclei and hypertriton in central Au+Au collisions at sNN=11.5 and 200 GeV

Abstract

The production of dibaryons, light nuclei and hypertriton in the most central Au+Au collisions at sNN=11.5 and 200 GeV is investigated by using a naive coalescence model. The production of light nuclei is studied and found that the production rate reduces by a factor of 330 (1200) for each extra nucleon added to nuclei at sNN=11.5(200) GeV. The pT integrated yield of multistrange hadrons falls exponentially as strangeness quantum number increases. We further investigate strangeness population factors S3,S2 as a function of transverse momentum as well as sNN. The calculations for sNN=11.5 GeV presented here will stimulate interest to carry out these measurements during the phase-II of beam energy scan program at STAR experiment.

Abstract

Hadronic resonances play an important role in the study of the physics of heavy-ion collisions. In these proceedings, we discuss how the resonances can probe the reaction dynamics, the strangeness production and the properties of the hadronic phase in heavy-ion collisions at center-of-mass energies of sNN = 4–11 GeV. The resonance properties predicted by the general-purpose event generators are found to be very sensitive to the properties and space-time evolution of the medium produced in heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract

This is a brief review of our work describing the hadronization process of a QGP fireball formed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We introduce the SHARE method of analysis of hadron multiplicities. Using this tool we describe in consistent continuos manner the yield of all hadrons produced in the available range of reaction energies and centralities. The properties of the fireball final state can be understood by considering all primary hadronic particles. The dense hadron fireball created at SPS, RHIC, and LHC shows that the final state is differentiated solely by: i) volume changes; and ii) flavor (strangeness, charm) content. Conversely, emerging particles add up to create universal hadronization pressure $P = 80 \pm 3$ MeV/fm$^3$ for all considered collision systems. The relative strangeness to entropy content of a large fireball is found to be that of quark-gluon plasma degrees of freedom near the chemical QGP equilibrium. Представлены особенности изменения параметров движения геосинхронного объекта 10294 SIRIO-1 №1977-080A по результатам оптических наблюдений в обсерваториях в Звенигороде, на пике Терскол и на горе Санглох республики Таджикистан. Пассивный итальянский научный космический аппарат SIRIO-1 представляет интерес тем, что он описывает классическую восьмерку вокруг точки либрации 75 ◦ в.д. без дрейфа по долготе и всегда доступен наблюдениям с наших пунктов. Это дает возможность детально исследовать поступательно-вращательное движение объекта, используя только результаты своих измерений. SIRIO-1 наблюдался нами для проверки аппаратуры и программного обеспечения как тестовый объект с очень устойчивой орбитой. В 2018 г. у этого объекта были обнаружены изменения в движении и в кривых блеска, не свойственные космическому мусору. Были зафиксированы небольшое скачкообразное изменение орбиты между 7 и 11 марта 2018 г. и изменение коэффициента отношения площади миделевого сечения объекта к его массе; кроме того перестал надежно определяться период изменения блеска и появилось характерное изменение блеска на одном и том же участке траектории с периодом, примерно равным звездным суткам. The features of changes in the motion parameters of the geosynchronous object 10294 SIRIO-1 No.1977-080A based on the results of optical observations at the observatories in Zvenigorod, Terskol Peak and Sanglokh Mountain in the Republic of Tajikistan are presented. The passive Italian scientific spacecraft SIRIO-1 is of interest to us because it describes the classic eight around the libration point of 75 ◦ E without longitude drift and is always available to observations from our observation points. This makes it possible to study in detail the translational-rotational motion of the object, using only the results of their measurements. SIRIO-1 was observed by us to test the hardware and software as a test object with a very stable orbit. In 2018, this object was found to have changes in motion and in the light curves that are not characteristic to space debris. A small abrupt change in the orbit between March 7 and 11, 2018, and a change in the area-to-mass ratio of the object were recorded. In addition, the period of change in the brightness was no longer reliably determined, and a characteristic change in the brightness appeared on the same part of the trajectory with a period approximately equal to the sidereal day.

Abstract

Recently, the hidden charm tetraquark states Z cs ( 3985 ) and Z cs ( 4000 ) with strangeness were observed by the BESIII and LHCb collaborations, respectively, which are great breakthroughs for exploring exotic quantum chromodynamics (QCD) structures. The first and foremost question is whether they are the same state. In this work, we explore the implications of the narrower state Z cs ( 3985 ) in BESIII and the wider one Z cs ( 4000 ) in LHCb as two different states. Within a solvable nonrelativistic effective field theory, we include the possible violations of heavy quark spin symmetry and SU(3) flavor symmetry in a comprehensive approach. If Z cs ( 3985 ) and Z cs ( 4000 ) are two different states, our results show that Z cs ( 4000 ) / Z cs ( 3985 ) is the pure ( | D ‾ s ∗ D 〉 + / - | D ‾ s D ∗ 〉 ) / 2 state, and the SU(3) flavor partner of Z c ( 3900 ) is Z cs ( 4000 ) rather than the Z cs ( 3985 ) . Another two important consequences are the existence of a tensor D ‾ s ∗ D ∗ resonance with mass about 4126 MeV and width 13 MeV, and the suppression of the decay mode Z cs ( 3985 ) → J / ψ K . The two consequences can be tested in experiments and distinguish the two-state interpretation from the one-state scheme.

Starting with the Strongly Correlated Quark Model (SCQM) of a hadron structure, SCQM, we propose a possible scenario of modification of the properties of mesons and baryons in a dense nuclear environment. These in-medium modifications can lead to the observable effects in heavy ion collisions, such as enhancement of strangeness and dropping/broadening vector meson masses.

Abstract

In 1960 Gell-Mann completed the “Particle Zoo” with pseudo 3D constructions: a Spin-Strangeness plane and an oblique incident charge. In this way he investigated with the crossing Kaon connections (1/2 Spin, -1, 0, 1 Strangeness, -1, 0, 1 Charge) 3 quark-points with simple proper fractions. With the new media the construction can be better detected with a perpendicular charge axis as could be done with the GeoGebra 5 program. But 1960 the Quantum Mechanics didn’t want the Strangeness and prevented a construction for everyman. Only experts were mathematically according to Lagrange allowed to get an idea about the real matter. But according to the Euclid Geometry 3 points lay on a circle line; if twice, then with 6 exact Quark points all other known requirements of the particle physics can be done by construction.

Abstract

First evidence of a structure in the $J/\psi{\Lambda}$ invariant mass distribution is obtained from an amplitude analysis of$\Xi_b^-{\rightarrow}J/\psi{\Lambda}K^-$ decays. The observed structure is consistent with being due to a charmonium pentaquark with strangeness with a significance of $3.1\sigma$ including systematic uncertainties and look-elsewhere effect. Its mass and width are determined to be $4458.8\pm2.9^{+4.7}_{-1.1}$ MeV and $17.3\pm6.5^{+8.0}_{-5.7}$ MeV, respectively, where the quoted uncertainties are statistical and systematic. The structure is also consistent with being due to two resonances. In addition, the narrow excited $\Xi^-$ states, $\Xi(1690)^-$ and $\Xi(1820)^-$, are seen for the first time in a $\Xi^-_b$ decay, and their masses and widths are measured with improved precision. The analysis is performed using $pp$ collision data corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV.
