Abstract

Using data collected on the psi(3770) resonance and near the Ds*+ Ds- peak production energy by the CLEO-c detector, we study the decays of the possible D->PP modes and report measurements of or upper limits on all branching fractions for Cabibbo-favored, singly-Cabibbo-suppressed, and doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed D->PP decays except modes involving K0L (and except D0->K+ pi-). Abstract

Using a sample of 2.59x10{sup 7} {psi}(2S) decays collected by the CLEO-c detector, we present results of a study of {chi}{sub cJ} (J=0, 1, 2) decays into baryon-antibaryon final states. We present the world's most precise measurements of the {chi}{sub cJ}{yields}pp and {chi}{sub cJ}{yields}{lambda}{lambda} branching fractions, and the first measurements of {chi}{sub c0} decays to other hyperons. These results illuminate the decay mechanism of the {chi}{sub c} states.

Abstract

We have searched a sample of 9.6 million BB-bar events for the lepton-flavor-violating decays B --> h e^{+-} mu^{-+}, B^+ --> h^- e^+ e^+, B^+ --> h^- e^+ mu^+, and B^+ --> h^- mu^+ mu^+, where h is pi, K, rho, and K*(892), a total of sixteen modes. Abstract

Experiment E835 has collected a large sample of charmonium states using a hydrogen jet and the virtually monoenergetic stochastically cooled antiproton beam. We present an improved measurement of the ξ c 0 mass and width, preliminary results of analysis of the ξ c 0 decay to μ 0 μ 0 and γγ and the final value of our measurements of the η c parameters.

Abstract

Using 24 million $\psi' \equiv \psi(2S)$ decays in CLEO-c, we have searched for higher multipole admixtures in electric-dipole-dominated radiative transitions in charmonia. We find good agreement between our data and theoretical predictions for magnetic quadrupole (M2) amplitudes in the transitions $\psi' \to \gamma \chi_{c1,2}$ and $\chi_{c1,2} \to \gamma J/\psi$, in striking contrast to some previous measurements. Let $b_2^J$ and $a_2^J$ denote the normalized M2 amplitudes in the respective aforementioned decays, where the superscript $J$ refers to the angular momentum of the $\chi_{cJ}$. By performing unbinned maximum likelihood fits to full five-parameter angular distributions, we determine the ratios $a_2^{J=1}/a_2^{J=2} = 0.67^{+0.19}_{-0.13}$ and $a_2^{J=1}/b_2^{J=1} = -2.27^{+0.57}_{-0.99}$, where the theoretical predictions are independent of the charmed quark magnetic moment and are $a_2^{J=1}/a_2^{J=2} = 0.676 \pm 0.071$ and $a_2^{J=1}/b_2^{J=1} = -2.27 \pm 0.16$., Comment: 32 pages, 7 figures, acceptance update

Abstract

We study the inclusive decays of Ds+ mesons, using data collected near the Ds*+ Ds- peak production energy E_cm=4170 MeV by the CLEO-c detector. We report the inclusive yields of Ds+ decays to K^+ X, K^- X, KS0 X, pi^+ X, pi^- X, pi^0 X, eta X, eta' X, phi X, omega X and f0(980) X, and also decays into pairs of kaons, Ds+ -> KK-bar X. Abstract

Using data taken with the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we have investigated the direct-photon momentum spectrum in the decay J/{psi}(1S){yields}{gamma}gg, via the ''tagged'' process: e{sup +}e{sup -}{yields}{psi}(2S); {psi}(2S){yields}J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}; J/{psi}{yields}{gamma}+X. Including contributions from two-body radiative decay processes, we find the ratio of the inclusive direct-photon branching fraction to that of the dominant three-gluon branching fraction [R{sub {gamma}}=B(gg{gamma})/B(ggg)] to be R{sub {gamma}}=0.137{+-}0.001{+-}0.016{+-}0.004, where the errors shown are statistical, systematic, and the model-dependent uncertainty related to the extrapolation to zero photon energy. The shape of the scaled photon energy spectrum in J/{psi}{yields}gg{gamma} is observed to be very similar to that of {upsilon}{yields}gg{gamma}. The R{sub {gamma}} value obtained is roughly consistent with that expected by a simple quark-charge scaling [R{sub {gamma}}{approx}(q{sub c}/q{sub b}){sup 2}] of the value determined at the {upsilon}(1S), but somewhat higher than the value expected from the running of the strong coupling constant.

Abstract

Using a data sample of 24.5 million psi(2S) the reactions psi(2S)->gamma chi_cJ, chi_cJ->gamma gamma have been studied for the first time to determine the two-photon widths of the chi_cJ states of charmonium in their decay into two photons. The measured quantities are B(psi(2S)->gamma chi_c0)xB(chi_c0->gamma gamma)=(2.22+-0.32+-0.10)x10^-5, and B(psi(2S)->gamma chi_c2)xB(chi_c2->gamma gamma)=(2.70+-0.28+-0.15)x10^-5. Using values for B(psi(2S)->gamma chi_c0,c2) and ��(chi_c0,c2) from the literature the two-photon widths are derived to be ��_{gamma gamma}(chi_c0)=(2.53+-0.37+-0.26) keV, ��_{gamma gamma}(chi_c2)=(0.60+-0.06+-0.06) keV, and R=��_{gamma gamma}(chi_c2)/��_{gamma gamma}(chi_c0)= 0.237+-0.043+-0.034. The importance of the measurement of R is emphasized. Abstract

Using 420 pb(-1) of data collected on the Upsilon(5S) resonance with the CLEO III detector, we reconstruct B mesons in 25 exclusive decay channels to measure or set upper limits on the decay rate of Upsilon(5S) into B meson final states. We measure the inclusive B cross section to be sigma(Upsilon(5S)-> BB(X))=(0.177 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.016) nb and make the first measurements of the production rates of sigma(Upsilon(5S)-> (BB*)-B-*)=(0.131 +/- 0.025 +/- 0.014) nb and sigma(Upsilon(5S)-> BB*)=(0.043 +/- 0.016 +/- 0.006) nb, respectively. We set 90% confidence level limits of sigma(Upsilon(5S)-> BB)< 0.038 nb, sigma(Upsilon(5S)-> B((*))B((*))pi)< 0.055 nb and sigma(Upsilon(5S)-> BB pi pi)< 0.024 nb. We also extract the most precise value of the B-s(*) mass to date, M(B-s(*))=(5411.7 +/- 1.6 +/- 0.6) MeV/c(2).

Abstract

The h(c)(P-1(1)) state of charmonium has been observed in the reaction psi(2S)->pi(0)h(c)->(gamma gamma)(gamma eta(c)) using 3.08x10(6) psi(2S) decays recorded in the CLEO detector. Data have been analyzed both for the inclusive reaction, where the decay products of the eta(c) are not identified, and for exclusive reactions, in which eta(c) decays are reconstructed in seven hadronic decay channels. We find M(h(c))=3524.4 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.4 MeV which corresponds to a hyperfine splitting Delta M-hf(1P)equivalent to < M(P-3(J))>-M(P-1(1))=+1.0 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.4 MeV, and B(psi(2S)->pi(0)h(c))xB(h(c)->gamma eta(c))=(4.0 +/- 0.8 +/- 0.7)x10(-4).

Abstract

We have studied the inclusive photon spectrum in psi(2S) decays using the CLEO III detector. We present the most precise measurements of electric dipole (E1) photon transition rates for psi(2S)-->gammachi(cJ)(1P) (J=0,1,2). We also confirm the hindered magnetic dipole (M1) transition, psi(2S)-->gammaeta(c)(1S). However, the direct M1 transition psi(2S)-->gammaeta(c)(2S) observed by the Crystal Ball as a narrow peak at a photon energy of 91 MeV is not found in our data.

Abstract

Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell Electron-positron Storage Ring, we have measured the scaled momentum spectra, dsigma/dx(p), and the inclusive production cross sections of the charm mesons D+, D-0, Dstar+, and D-star0 in e(+)e(-) annihilation at about 10.5 GeV center of mass energy, excluding the decay products of B mesons. The statistical accuracy and momentum resolution are superior to previous measurements at this energy.

Abstract

Using the CLEO II detector at CESR, we measure the eta' energy spectra in Y(1S) decays that we compare with models of the eta'g*g form factor. This form factor, especially at large eta' energies, may provide an explanation of the large rate for B-->X(s)eta'. Our data do not support a large anomalous coupling at higher q(2) and thus the large eta' rate remains a mystery, possibly requiring a non-standard-model explanation.

Abstract

Using data collected by the CLEO III detector at CESR, we report on the first observation of the decays Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdapi(+)pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdaomegapi(+). The branching fractions are measured relative to the pK(-)pi(+) mode; we find B(Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdapi(+)pi(+)pi(-)pi(0))/B(Lambda(c)(+)-->pK(-)pi(+))=0.36+/-0.09(stat)+/-0.09(syst) and B(Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdaomegapi(+))/B(Lambda(c)(+)-->pK(-)pi(+))=0.24+/-0.06(stat)+/-0.06(syst). We also observe a small excess of events in Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdaetapi(+), eta-->pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) from which we find B(Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdaetapi(+))/B(Lambda(c)(+)-->pK(-)pi(+))=0.41+/-0.17+/-0.10 with a corresponding limit of Lambdaetapi(+), eta-->gammagamma. We find that the combined branching fractions for Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdaomegapi(+) and Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdaetapi(+) comprise (87+/-13)% of the total Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdapi(+)pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) rate. We set an upper limit on B(Lambda(c)(+)-->Lambdapi(+)pi(+)pi(-)pi(0))/B(Lambda(c)(+)-->pK(-)pi(+)) for non-omega and non-eta modes of 0.13 at 90% confidence level.

Abstract

We measure the primary lepton momentum spectrum in (B) over bar -->Xl (ν) over bar decays, for plgreater than or equal to1.5 GeV/c in the B rest frame. From this, we calculate various moments of the spectrum. In particular, we find R(0)equivalent tointegral(1.7 GeV)(dGamma/dE(sl))dEl/integral(1.5 GeV)(dGamma/dE(sl))dEl=0.6187+/-0.0014(stat)+/-0.0016(sys) and R(1)equivalent tointegral(1.5 GeV)El(dGamma/dE(sl))dEl/integral(1.5 GeV)(dGamma/dE(sl))dEl=(1.7810+/-0.0007(stat)+/-0.0009(sys)) GeV. We use these moments to determine non-perturbative parameters governing the semileptonic width. In particular, we extract the heavy quark expansion parameters (&ULambda;) over bar=(0.39+/-0.03(stat)+/-0.06(sys)+/-0.12(th)) GeV and lambda(1)=(-0.25+/-0.02(stat)+/-0.05(sys)+/-0.14(th)) GeV2. The theoretical constraints used are evaluated through order 1/M-B(3) in the non-perturbative expansion and beta(0)alpha(s)(2) in the perturbative expansion. We use these parameters to extract \V-cb\ from the world average of the semileptonic width and find \V-cb\=(40.8+/-0.5(Gammasl)+/-0.4((lambda1),((&ULambda;) over bar )exp)+/-0.9(th))x10(-3). In addition, we extract the short range b-quark mass m(b)(1S)=(4.82+/-0.07(exp)+/-0.11(th)) GeV/c(2). Finally, we discuss the implications of our measurements for the theoretical understanding of inclusive semileptonic processes.

Abstract

Using data collected by the CLEO detector in the Upsilon(4S) region, we report new measurements of the exclusive decays of B mesons into final states of the type Lambda_c^+ p-bar n(pi), where n=0,1,2,3. We find signals in modes with one, two and three pions and an upper limit for the two body decay Lambda_c^+ pbar. We also make the first measurements of exclusive decays of B mesons to Sigma_c p-bar n(pi), where n=0,1,2. We find signals in modes with one and two pions and an upper limit for the two body decay Sigma_c p-bar. Abstract

The resonance parameters of the χ c 0 , the 1 3 P 0 state of charmonium, have been measured at the Fermilab Antiproton Accumulator in the reaction p p→χ c0 →γJ/ψ→γ(e + e − ) . A large data sample collected during the year 2000 run yields the results: M ( χ c 0 )=3415.4±0.4±0.2 MeV/ c 2 , Γ ( χ c 0 )=9.8±1.0±0.1 MeV, B (χ c0 → p p)× B (χ c0 →γJ/ψ)× B (J/ψ→(e + e − ))=(1.61±0.11±0.08)×10 −7 . Taking B (χ c0 →γJ/ψ) and B (J/ψ→e + e − ) from the literature, we obtain B (χ c0 → p p)=(4.1±0.3 +1.6 −0.9 )×10 −4 and Γ(χ c0 → p p)=(4.0±0.4 +1.6 −0.9 ) keV.

Abstract

We report on the decay to two photons of the χ c 0 (1 3 P 0 ) charmonium resonance formed in p p interactions at Fermilab experiment E835. We have measured the product of branching ratios BR(χ c 0 → p p)×BR(χ c 0 →γγ)=(6.52±1.18( stat ) +0.48 −0.72 ( sys ))×10 −8 . Using values from the 2002 PDG, this measurement leads to the partial width Γ ( χ c 0 → γγ )=2.9±0.9 keV.
