The article presents a study which examines the relation of compressed hydrocarbon gases on growth inhibition of saccharomyces cerevisiae. The study performs microcalorimetry to evaluate the yeast growth, using toxicity indices 50% inhibitory pressure (IP50) and minimum inhibitory pressure (MIP). Result shows that hydrocarbon gases inhibits yeast growth more from lower values of IP50 and MIP. Moreover, the inhibition was the result of gas toxicity and hydrostatic pressure.

The article presents a study on the effects of the pressurization of ethylene gas on the ultrastructure of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It states that the exposure of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to the compressed ethylene gas altered its ultrastructure which was observed through transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It emphasizes that this pressurization resulted to serious damage of the intracellular organelles in yeast cells, particularly the nuclear and plasma membranes.
