The author offers his opinions on the new political rules for winning the U.S. presidential nomination, in light of the January 2008 primary election in Florida, as well as the old rules that have been ratified. The new rules include the lessened importance of television advertisements and the use of technology to raise funds quickly. He points out that the failure of Republican presidential nominee Mike Huckabee beyond Iowa is a reminder that old rules are still in force, such as the need to increase the candidate's appeal.
