The article discusses the implications of the position of the intellectuals of the John Randolph Club on several political and social issues for the political campaigns of Republican presidential candidate Patrick J. Buchanan in 1992. It deals with the concern that the opinions of the intellectuals on the issue of free trade would affect the credibility of Buchanan against President George W. Bush. It argues against the notion that Buchanan is a protectionist due to the fact that he performs well on the issue than Bush.
