Abstract

The article presents research on the neuropeptide orphanin FQ (also known as nociceptin or OFQ/N) which inhibits the activity of pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) neurones located in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARH). Topics include the role of the ARH in the regulation of female sexual behavior and energy balance, the role of gonadal steroids in modulating the actions of orphanin FQ for controlling female sexual receptivity and lordosis, and progesterone treatment.
