We consider the problem of finding a minimum common string partition (MCSP) of two strings, which is an NP-hard problem. The MCSP problem is closely related to genome comparison and rearrangement, an important field in Computational Biology. In this paper, we map the MCSP problem into a graph applying a prior technique and using this graph, we develop an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation for the problem. We implement the ILP formulation and compare the results with the state-of-the-art algorithms from the literature. The experimental results are found to be promising. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The longest common subsequence (LCS) problem is a classic and well-studied problem in computer science. Palindrome is a word which reads the same forward as it does backward. The longest common palindromic subsequence (LCPS) problem is a variant of the classic LCS problem which finds a longest common subsequence between two given strings such that the computed subsequence is also a palindrome. We suggest a new way for olving the exact cover and the minimum hilling set problems using massive parallelism of light. The idea is to build an optical device that will generate all possible solution sets and then to select the correct one among those sets. The device has a graph like tructure. There are several nodes connected by arcs (optical fibers). The light ray passing through an arc is delayed by some predefined time represented by the number assigned to the arc. In this paper, we revisit the problem of computing longest common almost increasing subsequence (LCAIS) where, given two input sequences, the goal is to compute a common subsequence that is 'almost' increasing. Here the concept of an almost increasing subsequence offers an interesting relaxation over the increasing condition. This problem has been studied in the literature albeit with some constraints. In this paper, we revisit the much studied problem of Pattern Matching with Swaps (Swap Matching problem, for short). We first present a graph-theoretic model, which opens a new and so far unexplored avenue to solve the problem. Then, using the model, we devise two efficient algorithms to solve the swap matching problem. The resulting algorithms are adaptations of the classic shift-and algorithm.
