Digital Equipment Corp issued announcements on Apr 3, 1990, that included more than 20 new computers, peripherals and software products aimed at the distributed computing market. Leading the products announced is the DECstation 5000 family of single-processor, reduced-instruction-set (RISC) computers, ranging in price from $14,000 to $36,000 and targeted at the computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, and computer-aided software engineering markets. Other product announcements included the DECsystem 5830 and 5840 three and four processor workstations, a digital audio tape (DAT) back-up system, a disk drive, the TURBOchannel I/O interconnect architecture, and Ultrix 4.0. Also announced were price reductions for the DECstation 2100 and 3100 models.
