Ghana under Rawling : adjustment and power. This article has two aims : one is to help us understand Ghana on the eve of the end of the year elections ; the other is to discuss the ways in which Rawlings has tried to adapt the constraints of structural adjustment to suit the requirements of his country. The article asks a number of pointed questions, discussed in the context of Ghana, which will be of interest to all those trying to understand what the consequences of the present economic crisis will be for the so called transitions to democracy., Cet article a deux ambitions : l’une de faire connaître le Ghana sous Rawlings à la veille des élections de fin 1996 ; l’autre de nous faire comprendre dans quelle mesure Rawlings a su adapter les contraintes de l’ajustement structurel pour servir les intérêts de son pays.
