This study examines the relationship between violence against women and machismo in Guayaquil, focusing on women aged 20 to 29 years The research integrates quantitative and qualitative methods, utilizing surveys, interviews, and focus groups Findings reveal that psychological and physical violence are the most common forms of violence experienced by women in this age group Deeply ingrained macho attitudes were identified in familial, occupational, and social contexts, particularly prevalent in environments with lower educational and socioeconomic levels A significant correlation was found between the prevalence of machismo and incidence of gender-based violence, with women in relationships or contexts exhibiting higher levels of violence The study concludes that machismo is a key factor in perpetuating violence against women in Guayaquil To reduce this violence, it is essential to challenge and change macho attitudes across all societal levels Recommendations include implementing educational programs and awareness campaigns on gender equality, strengthening public policies and victim support services, and promoting ongoing research to evaluate intervention effectiveness.
