Background: Abdominal pain can be an overlooked symptom in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with abdominal pain in active and quiescent UC. Methods: Three study cohorts of adult UC patients were used. Cross‐sectional cohorts I and II included 130 (46 active) and 288 (156 active) patients. Longitudinal cohort III included 83 patients with active disease at diagnosis that reached deep remission during follow‐up. The Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale was used to assess abdominal pain and other validated questionnaires to assess psychological distress, fatigue and quality of life (QoL). Results: In the two cross‐sectional cohorts, 63% and 58% of the active vs. 54% and 33% of the quiescent UC patients reported abdominal pain (both p ≤ 0.02). In the longitudinal cohort, 71% had abdominal pain at diagnosis vs. 46% when in remission (p < 0.001). In multivariable models, symptoms of anxiety were associated with higher abdominal pain levels in both cross‐sectional cohorts (OR 1.75 [IQR 1.11–2.76] and OR 1.99 [1.45–2.73]), whereas in cohort II, active disease (OR 2.68 [1.61–4.45]) and female sex (OR 2.03 [1.21–3.41]) were also associated with pain. QoL was negatively correlated with higher levels of abdominal pain, both in active and quiescent disease. Conclusions: Abdominal pain in UC is prevalent and associated with lower QoL in both active and quiescent disease. Associated factors are active disease, female sex and psychological symptoms, especially anxiety. We suggest considering a holistic approach when treating UC patients with abdominal pain. Introduction: Sleep disorders often coexist with personality and psychological issues, alongside nocturnal hypoxia. This study investigates the potential mediating role of nocturnal hypoxia between personality traits and psychological symptoms in individuals with sleep disorders. Methods: A cohort comprising 171 participants reporting sleep disturbances was recruited from Dalian Seventh People's Hospital. Psychological symptoms were assessed using the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R), while personality traits were evaluated using the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ). Nocturnal hypoxia status was determined through overnight polysomnography. Results: Mediation analysis, conducted using SPSS 23.0, demonstrated that the cumulative time of nocturnal peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) < 85% (T85) partially mediated the relationship between neuroticism and various psychological symptoms, including somatization (c=0.207, c'=0.164, a*b=0.043, proportion of mediation 20.8%), interpersonal sensitivity (c=0.360, c'=0.326, a*b=0.034, proportion of mediation 9.6%), depression (c=0.277, c'=0.234, a*b=0.042, proportion of mediation 15.3%), anxiety (c=0.240, c'=0.199, a*b=0.041, proportion of mediation 16.9%), hostility (c=0.241, c'=0.205, a*b=0.036, proportion of mediation 14.9%), phobic anxiety (c=0.271, c'=0.241, a*b=0.030, proportion of mediation 11.1%), and psychoticism (c=0.298, c'=0.266, a*b=0.032, proportion of mediation 10.8%). Discussion: These findings underscore the potential mediating role of nocturnal hypoxia in the association between neuroticism personality traits and psychological symptoms among individuals with sleep disorders. AbstractObjective: The purpose of this review is to summarize the long-term cognitive, psychological, fluid biomarker, and neuroimaging outcomes following repetitive concussive and subconcussive blast exposures sustained through a military career. Method/Results: A review of the literature was conducted, with 450 manuscripts originally identified and 44 manuscripts ultimately included in the review. The most robust studies investigating how repetitive concussive and subconcussive exposures related to cognitive performance suggest there is no meaningful impact. Although there are minimal studies that suggest some small impacts on neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers, most findings have been in very small samples and fail to replicate. Both repetitive blast mTBI and subconcussive blasts appeared to be associated with increased self-reported symptoms. Many of the studies suffered from small sample size, failure to correct for multiple comparisons, and inappropriate control groups. Conclusions: Overall, there is little evidence to support that repetitive blast mTBIs or subconcussive blast exposures have a lasting impact on cognition, neuroimaging, or fluid biomarkers. In contrast, there does appear to be a relationship between these exposures and self-reported psychological functioning, though it is unclear what mechanism drives this relationship. Small sample size, lack of correction for multiple comparisons, limited control groups, lack of consideration of important covariates, limited diversity of samples, and lack of reliable and valid measures for assessment of blast exposure are major limitations restricting this research. Patients should be encouraged that while research is ongoing, there is little to currently suggest long-term cognitive or neurological damage following repetitive blast exposure. Background: Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) are common during Alzheimer's disease and cause severe problems for patients and their caregivers. Objectives: To assess the therapeutic efficacy of Pregabalin in comparison with a placebo in treating BPSD in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) visiting the memory and cognition clinic of Roozbeh Psychiatric Hospital in Tehran, Iran. Methods: A 12-week double-blind, randomized comparison of Pregabalin and placebo treatments was conducted in 53 patients with DSM-V diagnosis of dementia of Alzheimer's type. They were randomly assigned to receive Pregabalin (doses: 50 titrated up to 300 mg/day) or a placebo. Clinical response was evaluated using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), and the Behavioral Pathology in AD Rating Scale (BEHAVE-AD) scores compared with baseline. Side effects were also recorded carefully. Results: Patients receiving Pregabalin had better outcomes in comparison with patients receiving a placebo regarding both NPI and BEHAVE-AD scores after 12 weeks (p -value = 0.009 for NPI and p -value = 0.003 for BEHAVE-AD). There was also a statistically significant decrease in the treatment group depression sub-score regarding NPI and BEHAVE-AD (respectively, p -value =0.000, 0.003). The caregiver burden sub-score of the NPI test was also lower in patients receiving pregabalin (p -value = 0.000). There was no statistically significant difference between the occurrence of adverse effects between the two groups (p -value = 1.00). Conclusion: Pregabalin at a dose of 300 mg/day was well tolerated and associated with reductions in the severity and frequency of behavioral symptoms in patients with AD. Pregabalin could be considered a favorable choice for treating BPSD in adults with mild to moderate stages of Alzheimer 's-type dementia, considering its befitting safety profile. This study aims to explore the composition and dynamic changes of symptom clusters in breast cancer patients at various time points after breast reconstruction, offering insights for better symptom management post-surgery. A total of 120 breast cancer patients who received breast reconstruction surgery at our hospital from January 2021 to October 2023 were included in this retrospective study. Information regarding patient demographics and disease characteristics was gathered. The Chinese version of the Memory Symptom Assessment Scale to evaluate patients at admission (T1, 120 cases), 1-day post-surgery (T2, 116 cases), 1-week post-surgery (T3, 111 cases), 1-month postsurgery (T4, 104 cases), 3 months post-surgery (T5, 84 cases), 6 months post-surgery (T6, 76 cases) and 12 months post-surgery (T7, 64 cases). At each time point, there were 15, 17, 19, 16, 13, 12 and 9 symptoms respectively, with a prevalence rate exceeding 20%. The analysis through exploratory factorization disclosed that the peak prevalence of symptoms over 20% was observed at T3. Factorization of all symptoms at T3 delineated 6 distinct clusters of symptoms: autonomic dysfunction, fatigue, somatic dysfunction, psychological dysfunction, neurological and sensory symptoms and sleeprelated symptoms. Breast cancer patients undergoing breast reconstruction experience multiple symptom clusters. The core symptoms within these clusters remain relatively stable over time. Aim: This study examined the relationship between postpartum hair loss and psychological symptoms. Methods: This questionnaire‐based, cross‐sectional study included postpartum women who had delivered at two facilities and completed the questionnaire 10–18 months after delivery. Study protocols were sent by mail in two parts. Baseline characteristics and information regarding the pregnancy, delivery, childcare, and postpartum hair loss were obtained via a questionnaire. Psychological symptoms were assessed via the Whooley Questions, Generalized Anxiety Disorder 2‐item, and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Participants were divided into two groups based on psychological symptoms. Multivariate analyses were performed. Results: In total, 331 responses were analyzed. Women with very much hair loss felt significantly more anxious than those with no postpartum hair loss, as reported on the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 2‐item anxiety subscale (odds ratio: 4.47). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that primiparity, greater amount of postpartum hair loss, and higher Athens Insomnia Scale scores were predictors of Generalized Anxiety Disorder 2‐item anxiety. Adjusted odds ratio of having anxiety among those with very much postpartum hair loss was 4.58 (95% confidence interval, 1.18–17.74) compared to those with no postpartum hair loss. Purpose: This study examined time trends in significant child and adolescent psychological symptoms and explored the association of frequent and problematic social media use with these symptoms. Methods: Time trends in psychological symptoms were assessed using data from five waves of the international survey of Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC), conducted between 2001 and 2018 (N = 1,036,869). The associations of frequent and problematic social media use with significant psychological symptoms were assessed by hierarchical multinomial logistic regression using data from 2001–2002 and the 2017–2018 survey waves. The direction of effect between social media use variables and psychological symptoms was explored using Linear Non-Gaussian Acyclic Models (LiNGAM). Results: Prevalence of more severe psychological symptoms increased from 6.7% in 2001–2002 to 10.4% in the 2017–2018 survey waves. The increase was especially large among 15-year old and older girls: from 10.9 to 19.1%. The higher prevalence of more severe psychological symptoms in 2017–2018 compared with 2001–2002 was eliminated after adjusting the model for problematic social media use. LiNGAM analysis supported the direction of effect going from social media use and problematic social media use to psychological symptoms. Conclusions: The findings suggest that frequent and problematic use of social media contribute to the increasing trend of psychological symptoms in adolescents in recent years. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on psychological symptoms. The study group of this research consists of 240 participants who applied to a private health center in Beyoğlu District of Istanbul Province in the 2020–2021 academic year. A total of 240 participants, 60 in the EMDR Experiment group, 60 in the control group, 60 in the CBT Experiment group, and 60 in the control group were included in the study. In order to determine the sociodemographic information of the study group in the study, the personal information form developed by the researcher was used to measure the characteristics of the study group's brief symptom inventory (SCL 90-R) study group. The study group consisted of 14 weekly sessions of 90 min each. All the results obtained from the homogeneity and normality tests performed for the brief symptom inventory and pre-test measurements of the individuals in the experimental and control groups were considered together, and it was decided that parametric tests could be used in the research and analyzes were made in the SPSS 25.00 program. As a result of the study, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the psychological symptom scores of the experimental group before and after EMDR and CBT (P < 0.001). Considering the effect size of EMDR method on psychological symptoms, Somatization Cohen's d = 0.47, Obsessive Compulsive Cohen's d = 0.54, Interpersonal Sensitivity Cohen's d = 0.77, Depression Cohen's d = 0.53, Anger, Hostility Cohen's d = 0.57, Phobic Anxiety Cohen's d = 0.78, Psychoticism Cohen's d = 0.78 and Anxiety Cohen's d = 0.95, when the effect power of the CBT method on psychological symptoms is taken into consideration, Somatization Cohen's d = 0.36, Obsessive Compulsive Cohen's d = 0.48, Interpersonal Sensitivity Cohen's d = 0.43, Depression Cohen's d = 0.42, Anger, Hostility Cohen's d = 0.42, Phobic Anxiety Cohen's d = 0.63, Psychoticism Cohen's d = 0.49 and Anxiety Cohen's d = 0.50, respectively. According to the results obtained in the study and the Cohen-d effect size, EMDR suggests that it has an advantage over CBT in reducing psychological symptoms. In this context, it is recommended to use EMDR in clinics to reduce psychological symptoms, and CBT to be used as a second therapy method or as a therapy method together. Physical symptoms plague construction workers and pose threats to safety performance and productivity. Following the resilience engineering (RE) principles, recent construction safety management practices enhance construction workers' safety capability and safety management system resilience. This paper established an exploratory structural model explaining how construction workers' safety capability alleviates their physical and psychological symptoms through safety management system resilience. To validate and estimate the structural model, 741 valid responses from construction workers based in Shanghai, China were obtained. Given no established scales for the constructs in the model, a cross-validation procedure, consisting of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis, was performed. The results showed that although neither safety capability nor safety management system resilience has direct negative impacts on physical symptoms, they can reduce physical symptoms via alleviating psychological symptoms. Furthermore, safety capability can reduce psychological and physical symptoms via safety management system resilience. This paper therefore suggests that cultivating construction workers' safety capability would be the first step in implementing resilience engineering principles in construction. The continuous implementation of cost-effective and tailored resilience training programs are suggested to enhance construction workers' safety capability. Introduction: Long‐term childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors (CAYACS) are at risk of fatigue and psychological problems. However, their interactions remain largely unexplored. Understanding how they cluster can inform treatment and person‐centered follow‐up care. We aimed to identify and describe profiles of co‐occurring fatigue and psychological symptoms and investigate their associations with health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) in CAYACS. Methods: NOR‐CAYACS (The Norwegian Childhood, Adolescents and Young Adult Cancer Survivors study) was a nationwide survey involving adult survivors of any childhood cancer (aged < 19 years at diagnosis) and selected young adult cancers (breast and colorectal cancers, non‐Hodgkin lymphoma, leukemias, and malignant melanomas, aged 19–39 years at diagnosis) identified through the Cancer Registry of Norway. We included 1893 survivors aged ≥ 18 years, ≥ 5 years since diagnosis. We performed latent profile analysis with six continuous outcomes: physical and mental fatigue, depression, anxiety, post‐traumatic stress symptoms, and fear of recurrence. Results: We identified an overall "Low" (64%), a "Moderate fatigue/high anxiety" (18%), a "High fatigue/moderate distress" (13%), and an overall "High" (5%) symptom burden profile. The "High" profile exhibited lowest physical‐ and mental‐HRQOL with T‐scores −9.8 (95% confidence interval [95% CI]: −12.5, −7.1) and −25.0 (95% CI: −26.7, −23.3) compared to the "Low" profile. Conclusion: We identified four profiles, two characterized by high fatigue and two near normative fatigue levels, each with different psychological symptom burden. Greater symptom burden corresponded to lower HRQOL, with high fatigue profiles showing lower physical HRQOL. These profiles help identify at‐risk individuals and allow for targeting interventions and follow‐up care to survivors' unique constellation of symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The consistency index, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, area under the ROC curve (AUC), net reclassification improvement (NRI), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the performance of the model. Results: A total of 939 early patients with IBD were surveyed, Among them, 20.3% exhibited anxiety, 21.7% had depression, 57.3% experienced sleep disturbance, and 41.9% reported poor QoL. The factors influencing psychological symptoms varied between ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) patients. The QoL was primarily affected by disease activity, income level and depression. The AUC value of the model in the training group was 0.781 (95% CI: 0.748–0.814). The calibration diagram of the model closely matched the ideal curve. Compared to other prediction models, our model showed superior predictive capability, with NRI and IDI values of 0.324 (95%CI:0.196–0.4513) and 0.026 (95%CI:0.014–0.038), respectively. DCA indicated that the nomogram model could provide clinical benefits. Conclusion: Early patients with IBD exhibit a high prevalence of psychological symptoms and poor QoL. Abstract Background Suboptimal health status (SHS) is an intermediate status between ideal heath and illness, it is characterized by the perception of health complaints, general weakness, decreased immunity and low energy. An increasing number of Chinese middle school students are suffering from psychological symptoms (PS), particularly anxiety and depression. The relationship between SHS and PS is unclear in adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of SHS and the correlation between SHS and PS among Chinese middle school students and to identify the SHS-related risk factors from the perspective of public health. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with the cluster sampling method among 1955 middle school students in Shantou, China. SHS was assessed by Suboptimal Health Status Questionnaire-25 (SHSQ-25). And the PS of anxiety and depression were assessed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) and Beck Depression Inventory-II Scale (BDI-II) self-assessment questionnaires. Variate logistic analysis was applied to explore risk factors of SHS. The relationship between SHS and PS among Chinese middle school students was subsequently analyzed. Results Among the 1955 participants, 1904 middle school students were finally included in the analysis, the effective response rate was 97.39%. The prevalence of SHS was 10.3% (197/1904) while the prevalence of anxiety and depression was 30.7% (585/1904) and 34.1% (649/1904), respectively. Abstract Background Adolescence is a critical period for the onset of mental health issues. In China, high school students face significant academic and social pressures, leading to high rates of mental health challenges. Gender differences in the manifestation of these symptoms have been observed, with boys and girls exhibiting distinct psychological profiles. Objective This study aims to explore the structure of psychological symptoms among Chinese high school students using network analysis, focusing on identifying core symptoms and gender differences in symptom networks. The key objectives are to: 1) identify the central psychological symptoms for boys and girls, and 2) uncover the interactions between symptoms to inform targeted interventions. Methods A cluster sampling method was used to recruit 3,769 high school students (2,206 males and 1,563 females) in Shanghai. The Middle School Students Mental Health Scale (MSSMHS) was administered, and network analysis was conducted using the R packages bootnet and qgraph to assess symptom network edges, centrality, and network strength. Comparisons between male and female networks were made. Results Network analysis showed tightly connected symptom networks for both genders, with 43 non-zero edges for boys (sparsity 0.04) and 39 for girls (sparsity 0.13). Depression was the core symptom for boys (centrality 1.20), while anxiety was central for girls (centrality 1.46). Boys showed a stronger link between interpersonal sensitivity and depression (edge value 0.20), while girls exhibited a stronger connection between anxiety and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (edge value 0.16). Network comparison tests revealed no significant differences in overall network strength between boys (4.625) and girls (4.660), with P-values greater than 0.05 across all comparisons. Conclusion This study highlights significant gender differences in the psychological symptom networks of Chinese high school students. Depression and anxiety emerged as core symptoms for boys and girls, respectively. These findings provide a foundation for developing gender-sensitive mental health interventions, emphasizing the need for tailored approaches based on gender-specific symptom profiles.

Background and Objective: Vitiligo is a chronic skin disease. Considering that this disease affects a person's appearance, psychological symptoms, such as depression, isolation, and low self-confidence, are very common in these patients. The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on psychological symptoms of patients with vitiligo disease. Materials and Methods: The present study employed a quasi-experimental design featuring a pre-test, post-test, and unequal control group. The statistical population of the research comprised soldiers and other military personnel with vitiligo who were serving in military centers of the armed forces in Tehran in 2020. The experimental group (n=11) received ACT, and the control group (n=13) did not receive any intervention. The subjects completed the questionnaires before and after the intervention. The analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. Results: The results indicated that ACT improved depression, quality of life, and acceptance, and reduced experiential avoidance in vitiligo patients. No significant difference was observed in anxiety or mindfulness between the two groups. The effect size indicated that the differences between the groups were moderate. Conclusion: ACT is an evidence-based treatment for vitiligo patients, and psychologists can use this treatment to improve the quality of life and reduce the psychological symptoms of these patients.

Abstract Background Studies of time trends in Nordic adolescents' mental health have often relied on analyses of adolescents’ psychosomatic symptoms. In this study, we examine adolescents' self-reports on mental health in the context of the dual factor model, which encompasses both overt manifestations of mental health symptoms and subjective perception of one's health status. Method The objective of this study was to employ a person-oriented approach utilizing cluster analysis to discern time trends in mental health profiles of Nordic adolescents, using their psychosomatic complaints and their perception of their overall health as cluster variables. The resulting health profiles were then subjected to a comparative analysis with regard to different measures of psychological and social adjustment. The mental health profiles were based on data from the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey, which was conducted among almost 50000 15-year-olds in five Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) between 2002 and 2022. Results Mental health profiles exhibiting comparable content were observed in all Nordic countries, including profiles indicating adequate health, perceived good health, perceived poor health, high psychosomatic complaints, and dual health problems (defined as both high psychosomatic complaints and perceived poor health). These health profiles showed similar trends over time in the Nordic countries. Significant gender differences were observed. In 2002, adequate health was the dominant profile for both sexes. After 20 years, however, the high psychosomatic profile became the most common profile among girls. Among the three risk profiles, namely perceived poor health, high psychosomatic complaints and dual health problems, adolescents in the dual problems profile had the most psychological and social adjustment problems. Conclusions The comparatively lower incidence of adjustment problems among adolescents in the high psychosomatic profile relative to the dual mental health group challenges the prevailing view that there has been a sharp increase in mental health problems among Nordic adolescents. This view was largely based on the observed rise in psychosomatic symptoms. Indeed, there was a doubling in the proportion of adolescents in the high psychosomatic complaints profile between 2002 and 2022. This increase was considerably more pronounced than that observed for the dual health problems profile which exhibited most problems.

Anxiety, especially within the realm of eco-anxiety, has become an increasingly significant focus of research. In our exploration of eco-anxiety within the Arab Libyan population, we employed a cross-sectional approach and successfully validated the Hogg Eco-Anxiety Scale (HEAS-13). Across two separate subsamples, both Exploratory (n = 790) [M = 21.64 (SD = 3.51), % women = 86.8] and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (n = 829) [M = 22.24 (SD = 3.76), % women = 84.6] confirmed the validity of HEAS-13. This scale effectively captured four distinct dimensions of eco-anxiety: affective symptoms, rumination, behavioral symptoms, and anxiety regarding one's negative impact on the planet. Moreover, the total HEAS-13 and its dimensions had good internal consistency coefficients, ranging from 0.65 to 0.82. The findings highlight significant correlations between eco-anxiety subscales, behavioral symptoms, and rumination, indicating distinct profiles of eco-anxiety. Additionally structural equation modelling analysis revealed that eco-anxiety dimensions serve as a significant predictor of various psychological symptoms, climate change perception and climate value, emphasizing the interconnectedness between eco-anxiety and psychological distress. Furthermore, Sex-specific differences in eco-anxiety and its associations with climate change perceptions are explored, suggesting heightened awareness and involvement among females. The results emphasize eco-anxiety as a quantifiable psychological phenomenon, demonstrably measured through our 13-item eco-anxiety scale and associated with the mental health outcomes. Background: Adolescence is a critical period for the onset of mental health issues. In China, high school students face significant academic and social pressures, leading to high rates of mental health challenges. Gender differences in the manifestation of these symptoms have been observed, with boys and girls exhibiting distinct psychological profiles. Objective: This study aims to explore the structure of psychological symptoms among Chinese high school students using network analysis, focusing on identifying core symptoms and gender differences in symptom networks. The key objectives are to: 1) identify the central psychological symptoms for boys and girls, and 2) uncover the interactions between symptoms to inform targeted interventions. Methods: A cluster sampling method was used to recruit 3,769 high school students (2,206 males and 1,563 females) in Shanghai. The Middle School Students Mental Health Scale (MSSMHS) was administered, and network analysis was conducted using the R packages bootnet and qgraph to assess symptom network edges, centrality, and network strength. Comparisons between male and female networks were made. Results: Network analysis showed tightly connected symptom networks for both genders, with 43 non-zero edges for boys (sparsity 0.04) and 39 for girls (sparsity 0.13). Depression was the core symptom for boys (centrality 1.20), while anxiety was central for girls (centrality 1.46). Boys showed a stronger link between interpersonal sensitivity and depression (edge value 0.20), while girls exhibited a stronger connection between anxiety and obsessive-compulsive symptoms (edge value 0.16). Network comparison tests revealed no significant differences in overall network strength between boys (4.625) and girls (4.660), with P-values greater than 0.05 across all comparisons. Conclusion: This study highlights significant gender differences in the psychological symptom networks of Chinese high school students. Depression and anxiety emerged as core symptoms for boys and girls, respectively. These findings provide a foundation for developing gender-sensitive mental health interventions, emphasizing the need for tailored approaches based on gender-specific symptom profiles. Background: Studies of time trends in Nordic adolescents' mental health have often relied on analyses of adolescents' psychosomatic symptoms. In this study, we examine adolescents' self-reports on mental health in the context of the dual factor model, which encompasses both overt manifestations of mental health symptoms and subjective perception of one's health status. Method: The objective of this study was to employ a person-oriented approach utilizing cluster analysis to discern time trends in mental health profiles of Nordic adolescents, using their psychosomatic complaints and their perception of their overall health as cluster variables. The resulting health profiles were then subjected to a comparative analysis with regard to different measures of psychological and social adjustment. The mental health profiles were based on data from the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) survey, which was conducted among almost 50000 15-year-olds in five Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) between 2002 and 2022. Results: Mental health profiles exhibiting comparable content were observed in all Nordic countries, including profiles indicating adequate health, perceived good health, perceived poor health, high psychosomatic complaints, and dual health problems (defined as both high psychosomatic complaints and perceived poor health). These health profiles showed similar trends over time in the Nordic countries. Significant gender differences were observed. In 2002, adequate health was the dominant profile for both sexes. After 20 years, however, the high psychosomatic profile became the most common profile among girls. Among the three risk profiles, namely perceived poor health, high psychosomatic complaints and dual health problems, adolescents in the dual problems profile had the most psychological and social adjustment problems. Conclusions: The comparatively lower incidence of adjustment problems among adolescents in the high psychosomatic profile relative to the dual mental health group challenges the prevailing view that there has been a sharp increase in mental health problems among Nordic adolescents. This view was largely based on the observed rise in psychosomatic symptoms. Indeed, there was a doubling in the proportion of adolescents in the high psychosomatic complaints profile between 2002 and 2022. The aim of the present study is to compare the severity of psychological symptoms in adolescents who smoke and do not smoke, and to examine the relationship between nicotine addiction severity and psychological symptoms severities in adolescents. The sample of the study consisted of 230 high school students between the ages of 14 and 18 who were continuing their education at a high school. Each student completed "Fagerstrom Nicotine Dependence Test" and "SCL 90-R Psychological Symptom Screening Test", along with a sociodemographic data form. Chi-Square test was used to compare categorical variables between groups, and t-test was used to compare continuous variables. The relationship between the scale scores of the participants was analyzed using the Pearson correlation test. 36.5% (n=84) of the participants were smokers. Of the 84 students who smoked, and 18.8% (n=42) were low addicted, 11.7% (n=27) were moderately addicted, and 6.5% (n=15) were severely addicted. The somatization, obsessive-compulsive, depression, anxiety, hostility, paranoid ideation, and psychoticism subscale scores of adolescents who smoke were found to be statistically higher than those who did not smoke. While a moderately strong relationship was found between the students' Fagerstrom Nicotine Dependence Test scores and somatization, hostility and psychoticism subscale scores; a weak relationship was found between Fagerstrom Nicotine Dependence test scores and obsessive-compulsive, depression, anxiety and paranoid ideation in the students. To conclude, psychological symptoms severities is higher in adolescents who smoke, and high nicotine addiction severity in adolescents is associated with high psychological symptom severities. However, the question whether specific ER skills are related to specific psychological symptoms has rarely been studied, but has important implications for targeted interventions. This analysis aims to explore potential differential associations between various ER skills and psychological symptoms using a network analysis approach.Routine data from a transdiagnostic clinical sample of 716 patients (460 females, 256 males) from an outpatient clinic for psychotherapy were analysed. Nine ER skills were assessed with the Emotion Regulation Skills Questionnaire, and nine symptom dimension scores were obtained using the Brief Symptom Inventory. A regularized partial correlation network models including ER skills and individual symptom domains were calculated. Bridge expected influence was calculated to estimate the strength of association of each ER skill with psychological symptoms.Only the following ER skills were most strongly related to psychological symptoms (bridge expected influence): Tolerance, Confrontation and Modification. All other ER skills were indirectly connected to symptom severity through these four skills. The strongest direct edges between ER skills and symptoms were Modification—Depression, Confrontation—Obsession‐Compulsion and Tolerance—Interpersonal Sensitivity, which were significantly stronger than the vast majority of other associations between ER skills and psychological symptoms.These exploratory findings provide valuable targets for future studies to investigate specific associations between ER skills and psychological symptoms which could help to improve outcome monitoring and efficacy of interventions targeting ER. Background: The onset of menopause leads to diminished estrogen exposure, resulting in a high morbidity burden related to menopausal symptoms. Menopausal hormonal therapy is an effective therapy that offers more advantages than disadvantages for women aged less than 60 years or who have had menopause for less than 10 years. Objective: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of menopausal symptoms, identify factors associated with menopausal symptoms, and assess the use of menopausal hormone therapy among women aged 40–60 who visited the gynecological clinics of three hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2022 to June 2022 at Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Tikur Anbessa Hospital, and Zewditu Memorial Hospital on 296 middle-aged women. Data were collected using an interviewer-administered structured questionnaire and analyzed for sociodemographic factors, utilization of menopausal hormone therapy, and prevalence of menopausal symptoms using the menopause rating scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify independent predictors of each subscale of menopausal symptoms. The strength of the association was measured using odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals, and statistical significance was set at a value of P < 0.05. Result: The prevalence of menopausal symptoms was 89.9%. According to the menopausal rating scale, the frequency of reported symptoms was hot flushes (54.7%), muscle and joint pain (32.1%) on the somatic subscale; physical and mental exhaustion (55.1%), irritability (48.6%) on psychological subscale; and sexual problems (41.3%), bladder problems (39.2%) on urogenital subscale. This study also showed that the age of women [aOR: 0.317, 95%CI (0.102, 0.990)], and monthly family income [aOR = 0.182, 95% CI (0.041, 0.912)] were significantly associated with somatic menopausal symptoms. There was no utilization of menopausal hormonal therapy to treat menopausal symptoms and to prevent complications. Conclusion: The prevalence of menopausal symptoms is high; however, the utilization of individualized administration of menopausal hormone therapy according to symptoms is negligible. Breast Cancer Associated Susceptibility Proteins Type 1/2 (BRCA1/2) promote cellular functioning by modulating NRF2-mediated antioxidant signaling. Redox failure in women with BRCA1/2 insufficiency increases the risk for breast/ovarian/uterine cancers. Risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) is a prophylactic surgery of the reproductive organs, which is frequently conducted by the age of 40 to lower the occurrence of cancer in women with BRCA1/2 mutations. However, abrupt estrogen decline following RRSO causes ovarian failure, which implicates various cellular physiological processes, resulting in the increased release of free radicals and subsequent severe onset of menopausal symptoms. Comfort measures (e.g., hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR)) may improve chronological menopause-related quality of life, but their specific effects are not clear in women with gene mutations. Aiming to fill the gap, this study used path analysis to examine the effects of HRT and MBSR on menopausal symptoms among RRSO patients (N = 199, mean age = 50.5 ± 6.7 years). HRT directly alleviated the levels of urogenital symptoms (β = −0.195, p = 0.005), which mediated its indirect significant effects on the somatic–vegetative and psychological symptoms of menopause (β = −0.046, −0.067; both p values = 0.004, respectively), especially in BRCA2 carriers and in women who were currently physically active, premenopausal at the time of RRSO, had a high BMI, and had no history of breast cancer. It increased the severity of urogenital symptoms in women with a history of cancer. MBSR, on the other hand, was associated with indirect increases in the intensity of the somatic–vegetative and psychological symptoms of menopause (β = 0.108, 0.029; p = 0.003, 0.033, respectively). It exerted positive direct effects on different menopausal symptoms in multigroup analysis. The results suggest that young women undergoing recent RRSO may benefit from HRT at an individual level, while their need for extensive measures to optimize their psychological wellbeing is ongoing. The adverse effects of MBSR, which are captured in the present study, imply that MBSR may interfere with redox sensitivity associated with estradiol fluctuations in BRCA1/2 carriers. Individuals with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have an increased risk of developing psychiatric comorbidities, including eating disorders (EDs). We aimed to investigate the potential association between key disease characteristics, including psychological features, and the development of EDs in a clinical sample of adolescents with IBDs. We enrolled 52 adolescents with IBDs, 83% of whom were in clinical remission, and systematically collected additional information on disease duration, the total number of relapses, the use of steroids, and the number of hospital admissions. All participants completed a validated psychometric battery assessing psychological symptoms (Symptom Checklist-90–Revised, SCL-90-R), alexithymia (Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20, TAS-20), and ED symptomatology (Eating Disorders Inventory-3rd edition, EDI-3). About one in ten patients (9.6%) reported Eating Disorder Risk scores higher than the cut-off on the EDI-3 subscale, specifically addressing the risk of developing EDs. According to the EDI-3 scores, the risk of developing EDs directly correlated with the number of total relapses of IBDs (p < 0.05). The TAS-total scores also correlated with the number of total relapses (p < 0.01), as well as with the number of steroid cycles (p < 0.05), the number of hospital admissions (p < 0.05), and overall disease duration (p < 0.05). Our findings suggest that disease relapses increase the risk of developing both EDs and alexithymia in adolescents with IBDs. The recurrence of disease relapses should be identified and screened early on to prevent the onset of psychiatric disorders, including EDs. Research should be conducted on larger samples with different IBD phenotypes to further investigate the characteristics of patients with IBDs at risk of developing EDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to examine the association between occupational burnout and psychological symptoms among Chinese medical staff, assuming social support to play a moderating role in the aforementioned relationship. The survey was conducted online from May 1 to June 28, 2022, and the questionnaires were distributed and retrieved through a web-based platform. The final sample was comprised of 1461 Chinese medical staff in this cross-sectional study. Several multiple linear regressions were performed to analyze the data. After controlling for potential confounding factors, all three dimensions of occupational burnout were associated with poorer psychological symptoms. Emotional exhaustion (β = 0.33; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.018, 1.479) had the strongest association with psychological symptoms, followed by depersonalization and diminished personal accomplishment. Moreover, medical staff with higher levels of friend support (β = −0.11; 95% CI, −4.063, −0.573) and significant other support (β = −0.10; 95% CI, −3.965, −0.168) were less likely to suffer from psychological symptoms when faced with occupational burnout. The results suggested that interventions aimed at lessening occupational burnout and boosting social support can be an effective way to promote the psychological health of medical staff. This study aimed to assess the moderating role of gender in the relationship between childhood abuse and mental disorders in the population of a country that has been little studied. This research was designed by the correlational model, one of the quantitative research designs. 272 university students attending a state university in Turkey participated in the research. For sample selection, the convenience sampling method was used. As a result of analyses within the scope of the present study, it was concluded that gender had a moderating effect on the relationship between sexual abuse and somatisation, emotional abuse and negative self and physical neglect and hostility. BackgroundDiscrimination is associated with negative health outcomes as mediated in part by chronic stress, but a full understanding of the biological pathways is lacking. Here we investigate the effects of discrimination involved in dysregulating the brain-gut microbiome (BGM) system.MethodsA total of 154 participants underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging to measure functional connectivity. Fecal samples were obtained for 16S ribosomal RNA profiling and fecal metabolites and serum for inflammatory markers, along with questionnaires. The Everyday Discrimination Scale was administered to measure chronic and routine experiences of unfair treatment. A sparse partial least squares-discriminant analysis was conducted to predict BGM alterations as a function of discrimination, controlling for sex, age, body mass index, and diet. Associations between discrimination-related BGM alterations and psychological variables were assessed using a tripartite analysis.ResultsDiscrimination was associated with anxiety, depression, and visceral sensitivity. Discrimination was associated with alterations of brain networks related to emotion, cognition and self-perception, and structural and functional changes in the gut microbiome. BGM discrimination-related associations varied by race/ethnicity. Among Black and Hispanic individuals, discrimination led to brain network changes consistent with psychological coping and increased systemic inflammation. For White individuals, discrimination was related to anxiety but not inflammation, while for Asian individuals, the patterns suggest possible somatization and behavioral (e.g., dietary) responses to discrimination.ConclusionsDiscrimination is attributed to changes in the BGM system more skewed toward inflammation, threat response, emotional arousal, and psychological symptoms. By integrating diverse lines of research, our results demonstrate evidence that may explain how discrimination contributes to health inequalities.

IntroductionSleep disorders often coexist with personality and psychological issues, alongside nocturnal hypoxia. This study investigates the potential mediating role of nocturnal hypoxia between personality traits and psychological symptoms in individuals with sleep disorders.MethodsA cohort comprising 171 participants reporting sleep disturbances was recruited from Dalian Seventh People’s Hospital. Psychological symptoms were assessed using the Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R), while personality traits were evaluated using the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ). Nocturnal hypoxia status was determined through overnight polysomnography.ResultsMediation analysis, conducted using SPSS 23.0, demonstrated that the cumulative time of nocturnal peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) < 85% (T85) partially mediated the relationship between neuroticism and various psychological symptoms, including somatization (c=0.207, c’=0.164, a*b=0.043, proportion of mediation 20.8%), interpersonal sensitivity (c=0.360, c’=0.326, a*b=0.034, proportion of mediation 9.6%), depression (c=0.277, c’=0.234, a*b=0.042, proportion of mediation 15.3%), anxiety (c=0.240, c’=0.199, a*b=0.041, proportion of mediation 16.9%), hostility (c=0.241, c’=0.205, a*b=0.036, proportion of mediation 14.9%), phobic anxiety (c=0.271, c’=0.241, a*b=0.030, proportion of mediation 11.1%), and psychoticism (c=0.298, c’=0.266, a*b=0.032, proportion of mediation 10.8%).DiscussionThese findings underscore the potential mediating role of nocturnal hypoxia in the association between neuroticism personality traits and psychological symptoms among individuals with sleep disorders. Background: Cancer patients face various symptoms and problems caused by the disease or cancer treatment. Physical and psychological symptoms worsen the patient’s quality of life (QOL). Objectives: To predict how age, gender, marital status, educational level, working status, type of cancer, stage of cancer, physical factors (pain, fatigue, nausea, lack of appetite, shortness of breath, constipation, drowsiness, well-being) and psychological factors (anxiety and depression) affect to quality of life in patients’ cancer. Methods: The study was quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach with purposive sampling. Ninety-nine cancer patients participated in this study. Data were collected in General Hospital, Pekanbaru, in October - November 2022. The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30) was used to assess patient’s cancer quality of life. The Multivariate analysis uses the multiple linear regression. Results: The EORTC QLQ-C30 mean scores for QoL (65,9725,18), physical, emotional and cognitive functioning were high, at 60 or above. The score of most symptom scales in this study were reportedly good, at 37 or below. However, for pain and fatigue, the score was reportedly worse (range:45, 3227,84 to 64,2725,58). The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that factors predictive of quality of life were pain (p=0,032), fatigue (p=0,004), shortness of breath (p=0,020), constipation (p=0,002) and depression (p=0,042). These factors together can cause quality of life problems in cancer patients by 55% (adjusted R2 = 0.468). Conclusion: The study finding indicate that QoL score were influenced with several symptoms (pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, constipation and depression) of the ESAS-r score. Healthcare professionals should properly address pain and fatigue, as patients in this patient group consistently report them.

BackgroundBehavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) are common during Alzheimer’s disease and cause severe problems for patients and their caregivers.ObjectivesTo assess the therapeutic efficacy of Pregabalin in comparison with a placebo in treating BPSD in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) visiting the memory and cognition clinic of Roozbeh Psychiatric Hospital in Tehran, Iran.MethodsA 12-week double-blind, randomized comparison of Pregabalin and placebo treatments was conducted in 53 patients with DSM-V diagnosis of dementia of Alzheimer’s type. They were randomly assigned to receive Pregabalin (doses: 50 titrated up to 300 mg/day) or a placebo. Clinical response was evaluated using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), and the Behavioral Pathology in AD Rating Scale (BEHAVE-AD) scores compared with baseline. Side effects were also recorded carefully.ResultsPatients receiving Pregabalin had better outcomes in comparison with patients receiving a placebo regarding both NPI and BEHAVE-AD scores after 12 weeks (p-value = 0.009 for NPI and p-value = 0.003 for BEHAVE-AD). There was also a statistically significant decrease in the treatment group depression sub-score regarding NPI and BEHAVE-AD (respectively, p-value =0.000, 0.003). The caregiver burden sub-score of the NPI test was also lower in patients receiving pregabalin (p-value = 0.000). There was no statistically significant difference between the occurrence of adverse effects between the two groups (p-value = 1.00).ConclusionPregabalin at a dose of 300 mg/day was well tolerated and associated with reductions in the severity and frequency of behavioral symptoms in patients with AD. Aims: Fracture-related infections (FRIs) are a devastating complication of fracture management. However, the impact of FRIs on mental health remains understudied. The aim of this study was a longitudinal evaluation of patients’ psychological state, and expectations for recovery comparing patients with recurrent FRI to those with primary FRI. Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was conducted at a level 1 trauma centre from January 2020 to December 2022. In total, 56 patients treated for FRI were enrolled. The ICD-10 symptom rating (ISR) and an expectation questionnaire were assessed at five timepoints: preoperatively, one month postoperatively, and at three, six, and 12 months. Results: Recurrent FRI cases consistently exceeded the symptom burden threshold (0.60) in ISR scores at all assessment points. The difference between preoperative-assessed total ISR scores and the 12-month follow-up was not significant in either group, with 0.04 for primary FRI (p = 0.807) and 0.01 for recurrent FRI (p = 0.768). While primary FRI patients showed decreased depression scores post surgery, recurrent FRI cases experienced an increase, reaching a peak at 12 months (1.92 vs 0.94; p < 0.001). Anxiety scores rose for both groups after surgery, notably higher in recurrent FRI cases (1.39 vs 1.02; p < 0.001). Moreover, patients with primary FRI reported lower expectations of returning to normal health at three (1.99 vs 1.11; p < 0.001) and 12 months (2.01 vs 1.33; p = 0.006). Conclusion: The findings demonstrate the significant psychological burden experienced by individuals undergoing treatment for FRI, which is more severe in recurrent FRI. Understanding the psychological dimensions of recurrent FRIs is crucial for comprehensive patient care, and underscores the importance of integrating psychological support into the treatment paradigm for such cases. Abstract Introduction Declining physical activity among university students has become a concern, with increasingly poor dietary behaviors and other unfavorable factors having an impact on the occurrence of psychological symptoms. Previous studies have analyzed the association between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and psychological symptoms, but few studies have investigated the association between soy product consumption and these symptoms. In addition, the associations between physical activity and soy product consumption with psychological symptoms have not been investigated. Methods In this study, 7267 university students from different regions of China were surveyed regarding physical activity, soy product consumption, and psychological symptoms. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the associations among MVPA, soy product consumption, and psychological symptoms. A generalized linear model (GLM) was applied to further analyze the associations of MVPA and soy product consumption with psychological symptoms in this population. Results The detection rate of psychological symptoms among Chinese university students was 17.9%, with the rate among female students (18.9%) higher than that among male students (16.6%). The proportion of university students with MVPA 60 min/d was 76.1%, 19.3%, and 4.6%, respectively, and the proportion with soy product consumption ≤ 2 times/wk, 3–5 times/wk, and ≥ 5 times/wk was 25.8%, 42.4%, and 31.7%, respectively. Menopausal transition and post-menopausal periods can have short-term and long- term effects on mid-life health of women. The short-term effects include the possibility of experiencing of menopausal symptoms, while the long-term effects include cardiovascular diseases (CVD) risk. The occurrence of menopausal symptoms varies widely within and between populations. Studies indicate that the frequency and severity of menopausal symptoms are linked to CVD risk factors, but the existing literature is divergent and somewhat limited. Thus, women belonging to different populations are likely to be at a different risk of CVD, but the exact physiological mechanism behind this relationship remains unclear. The present narrative review aimed to synthesize the available evidence of menopausal symptoms in association with various conventional CVD risk factors such as blood pressure, total cholesterol and blood glucose levels and obesity, as well as to determine the potential link between these two processes. We undertook a rigorous data base search to identify, examine, and critically assess the existing literature on the associations between menopausal symptoms and CVD risk factors. We applied inclusion and exclusion criteria to filter the retrieved articles and classified the literature into eight major categories. The risk of CVD is higher among women who experience vasomotor, psychological, and urogenital symptoms compared to those who do not experience these symptoms. Our review indicates that menopausal symptoms can be used as markers in assessing CVD risk factors during midlife. Thus there is a need for larger-scale research to support these findings and identify the potential mediators that are controlling this association.

Abstract Background Declining physical activity and increasing screen time (ST) among Chinese adolescents have become major concerns shared by scholars, while mental health issues are also on the rise. Previous studies have confirmed the association between physical activity and screen time and psychological symptoms, but it is unclear how their psychological symptoms, especially for Chinese university students who have a high proportion of psychological symptoms, and no research evidence has been found. Methods This study investigated physical activity, screen time, and psychological symptoms in 11,173 university students aged 19–22 years in six regions of China. A binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the association between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and screen time and psychological symptoms. And the generalize linear model (GLM) analysis was used to further analyze the association between MVPA and screen time and psychological symptoms. Results The detection rate of psychological symptoms among Chinese university students was 16.3%, with a higher percentage of female students (17.5%) than male students (14.7%). The proportion of male students (8.2%) with MVPA > 60 min/d was higher than that of female students (2.3%), and the proportion of male students (33.8%) and female students (34.5%) with screen time > 2 h/d was basically the same. Throughout the COVID-19 period, families were forced to stay indoors, adapting to online schooling, remote work, and virtual social engagements, inevitably altering the dynamics within households. There was a notable increase in mental health challenges in terms of anxiety and depression in children and adolescents. This study intended to explore the psychosocial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Italian families by adopting self- and proxy-report questionnaires on anxiety, anger, and health-related quality of life. The results showed that approximately 20% obtained a clinical anxiety score and only 10% obtained a clinical anger score. There was a difference in the perception of the quality of life reported by the child and that perceived by the parent. A stepwise regression model showed that total anxiety scores were predicted by sex, quality of life scores from the parents’ self-report version, and the total anger score. Another stepwise regression model identified physiological and social anxiety as the best predictors that impact quality of life. Parental well-being actively influences the well-being of children, so it is fundamental to implement preventive programs and promote child well-being by providing parents the most adequate support possible.

This study was aimed to explore the influence of COVID-19 pandemic on elementary school students from cross-level perspective. With a cross-section survey, 823 elementary school students (Mage = 11.89, SD = 1.30) from 49 classes participated in the survey, which includes participants' demographic variables (e.g., gender) and studied variables assessing by depression, anxiety, COVID-19 related stress and other relevant variables. The hierarchical linear model was used to analyze the relationship among studied variables. Results showed that the detection rate of elementary school students' anxiety and depression symptoms were 24.2% and 23.3% respectively, which was higher than that before the pandemic broke out. For the influencing factors of elementary school student's psychological symptoms, at the individual level, both online learning satisfaction and problem-based coping strategy were negatively related with student's psychological symptoms, while both emotion-based coping strategy and pandemic-related stressors were positively related with them. Furthermore, emotion-based coping strategy could strengthen the positive relation between pandemic-related stressors and psychological symptoms. Emotion-based coping strategy (or online learning satisfaction) at the class level positively (or negatively) predicted psychological symptoms. The findings could add new knowledge about the influence of COVID-19 pandemic on elementary school students' psychological symptoms, and are useful in promoting elementary school students' mental health when the pandemic broke out. Chinese university students should perform MVPA for not less than 60 min a day, and at the same time control the duration of screen time, and screen time should be controlled between 1 and 2 h a day, which has a better promotion effect on psychological health. Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) presents with a range of symptoms and is associated with a poor prognosis. Although both immunotherapy and chemotherapy improve survival, they are still associated with psychological disorders due to the reduced quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the levels of anxiety and depression in Greek patients with NSCLC receiving second-line chemotherapy compared to second-line immunotherapy. Materials and methods: This is a comparative, prospective, non-randomized follow-up study in which measurement scales have been used to compare data from NSCLC patients in two hospitals in Athens, Greece. All patients completed a demographic data form in the first therapy cycle, while the hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) (value range 0-21) was completed from treatment cycle 1 to treatment cycle 6. Results: Of the 111 selected patients, the majority (75.7%) were men, with a mean age of 66.5±9.2 years. Second-line chemotherapy was received by 61 patients and second-line immunotherapy by 50 patients. According to HADS, from treatment cycle 1 to treatment cycle 6, the mean anxiety score decreased from 4.83±5.1 to 3.2±3.8 (p=0.287), while the mean depression score decreased from 5.64±5.53 to 4.61±4.75 (p=0.113). Depressive symptoms were statistically significantly higher in patients who received chemotherapy from the fourth cycle onwards (p<0.05), but in any of the study groups, the value did not exceed the critical threshold of seven points. In the anxiety subscale, after cycle 3 there was a significant decrease (p=0.014) of a similar degree (p=0.608) in both groups. Conclusions: The present study was the first attempt to investigate differences in psychological symptoms between treatment groups in Greek NSCLC patients. In adolescent and collegiate athletes with sport-related concussion (SRC), we sought to evaluate the prevalence and predictors of long-term psychological symptoms. A cohort study was conducted of athletes 12–24-year-old diagnosed with SRC between November 2017 and April 2022. Athletes/proxies were interviewed on psychological symptoms (i.e. anger, anxiety, depression, and stress). Participants who scored ≥75th percentile on one or more PROMIS (Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement System) measures were operationalized to have subclinical, long-term psychological symptoms. Uni/multivariable regressions were used. Of 96 participants (60.4% male), the average age was 16.6 ± 2.6 years. The median time from concussion to interview was 286 days (IQR: 247–420). A total of 36.5% athletes demonstrated subclinical, long-term psychological symptoms. Univariate logistic regression revealed significant predictors of these symptoms: history of psychiatric disorder (OR = 7.42 95% CI 1.37,40.09), substance use (OR = 4.65 95% CI 1.15,18.81), new medical diagnosis since concussion (OR = 3.43 95% CI 1.27,9.26), amnesia (OR = 3.42 95% CI 1.02,11.41), other orthopedic injuries since concussion (OR = 3.11 95% CI 1.18,8.21), age (OR = 1.24 95% CI 1.03,1.48), days to return-to-play (OR = 1.02 95% CI 1.00,1.03), and psychiatric medication use (OR = 0.19 95% CI 0.05,0.74). Multivariable model revealed significant predictors: orthopedic injuries (OR = 5.17 95% CI 1.12,24.00) and return-to-play (OR = 1.02 95% CI 1.00,1.04). Aim: The study aims to determine the level of family burden and psychological symptoms in mothers who have children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) in Turkey. Methods: The descriptive study was completed with 200 mothers of children with CP. Results: Depression was found in mothers (1.11 ± 0.79) and the Family Burden Assessment Scale (FBAS) mean score was also high (143.71 ± 22.68). A statistically significant difference was found between mothers who received support to care for their children and their level of depression (p = 0.003). A positive and significant relationship was also found between emotional burden and psychiatric symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, negative self-perception, somatization, and hostility (r = 0.458, p = 0.001; r = 0.552, p = 0.001; r = 0.494, p = 0.001; r = 0.376, p = 0.001; r = 0.404, p = 0.001), respectively. A weak and positive relationship was determined between time requirement and psychiatric symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, and negative self-perception (r = 0.166, p = 0.019; r = 0.259, p = 0.001; r = 0.223, p = 0.001, respectively). Conclusion: The main factor affecting depression in caregivers was lack of support. As the mothers' emotional burden increases, their psychiatric symptom scores also increase. In our study, mothers' anxiety, depression, and negative self-perception scores increase as their time requirements increase. Mothers should be supported with certain interventions, such as education and instruction, to meet the necessities while caring for their children. Policymakers should support mothers with low-income levels to ensure that the required services reach their recipients. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had tremendous implications for billions of adolescents worldwide due to school closures, forcing students to embrace internet usage for daily tasks. Uncontrolled use of the internet among adolescents makes them vulnerable to internet addiction (IA). This study aims to determine the prevalence of IA among adolescents and assess its association with sociodemographic factors, smartphone use, and psychological distress during the pandemic. Method: A cross-sectional self-administered online survey was conducted among students aged 13–17 from May 15th, 2021, until May 30th, 2021, using the Malay version of the Internet Addiction Test (MVIAT), the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Coronavirus Impacts Questionnaires, as well as a sociodemographic information form. The data was analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics version 23. Results: A total of 420 adolescents participated in the survey. The majority of them (70.7%) were female, with a mean age of 15.47 years (±1.49 years old). About 45.5% of the respondents were classified as internet addicted users. The Chi-square test analysis showed that age (p = 0.002), smartphone usage (p = 0.010), rate of midnight use (p < 0.001), frequency (p < 0.001), duration (p < 0.001) of device usage, and presence of depression, anxiety, and stress (p < 0.001) were all significantly associated with IA. Multiple logistic regression showed age (aOR = 1.16, 95% CI [1.00–1.35], p = 0.048), smartphone usage (aOR =3.52, 95% CI [1.43–8.67], p = 0.006), mild or moderate depression (aOR = 2.43, 95% CI [1.36–4.34], p = 0.003), severe or extremely severe stress (aOR = 6.41, 95% CI [2.18–18.82], p = 0.001) were significantly related to IA. Conclusions: Late adolescence, the use of smartphones, and the presence of psychological distress like depression, and stress were potentially associated with IA. Background: Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and duration of physical exercise are strongly associated with physical health. Unfortunately, there are few studies focused on the association with psychological symptoms, let alone Tibetan university students at high altitudes in China. Methods: A stratified cluster sampling method was used to include 8,268 Tibetan university students aged 19-22 years in Qinghai and Tibet, both of which are high-altitude regions of China. Self-assessment questionnaires on SSBs, duration of physical exercise, and psychological symptoms were administered. The chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the associations among them. Results: The detection rate of psychological symptoms among Tibetan university students in high-altitude areas of China was 16.7%, with in girls (18.2%) higher than that in boys (14.8%), and the difference was statistically significant (2 = 11.73, p < 0.01). The proportion of SSBs for university students =1 time/week, 2-5 times/week, and = 6 times/week were 54.2, 24.3, and 21.5%, respectively. The proportion of duration of physical exercise for >60 min/d was only 5.4%. Logistic regression analysis showed that compared with the SSBs =1 time/week group of university students, SSBs 2-5 times/week (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.24-1.70) and = 6 times/week (OR = 3.06, 95% CI: 2.62-3.57) had an increased risk of psychological symptoms (p < 0.001). In the reference group, the risk of psychological symptoms was also significantly increased in the group of university students with duration of physical exercise >60 min/d (OR = 2.08, 95% CI: 1.48-2.93), and the risk of psychological symptoms was also significantly increased in the group with duration of physical exercise <30 min/d (OR = 2.08, 95% CI: 1.48-2.93). The risk of psychological symptoms was also significantly increased in the university students with the duration of physical exercise <30 min/d (OR = 2.08, 95% CI: 1.48 ~ 2.93) group. Conclusion: SSBs and exercise time may be important influences on the psychological symptoms of Tibetan university students at high altitudes in China. This study has important implications for mental health planning in universities in highland areas and may also provide guidance for mental health interventions for Tibetan university students.
