Psychological assessment in the context of transit has been evident in Psychology in recent years amid the changes in legislation and questions about its validity. So can develop and achieve their goals it is necessary to understand trends and gaps concerning what has been researched in recent years. The present study compared published articles in the database Pepsic and Scielo and papers presented in the four editions of the Brazilian Conference of Psychological Assessment. From the keywords driver, psychological assessment, transit and drives, there were selected 22 articles and 38 papers at the congress, dated between 2000 and 2009. The results showed in general, an increased interest in the area. A larger number of papers at the congress was found, in order to verify that the most of research results do not reach effectively for publication. Among the studies reviewed, there is prevalence of empirical studies focused mainly on the investigation of personality and attention, using a large variety of instruments (n = 24), most are not specific to the context of traffic, and apply in their majority in driver's candidates. The aim of this paper is to explore the extent to which the psychic distance between countries poses challenges to the expatriation process of young multinational companies from emerging countries, such as Brazil. While the concept of psychic distance has been extensively explored in the literature for the analysis of the paths to internationalization of multinational companies, researchers have only recently begun to analyse its influence on expatriation processes. To this end, we reviewed studies of psychic distance and of two fields of expatriation processes that are directly influenced by the challenge of expatriates' cultural integration posed by psychic distance, namely selection and training. We also developed a multidimensional instrument to measure psychic distance and then classified the expats' countries of destination as 'close' or 'distant' in relation to Brazil. Our results show no predominance of countries that are psychically close to Brazil for the expatriations of professionals from the Brazilian companies studied. When analysing the expats' perceptions of the expatriation process, cultural integration emerged as a great challenge for expats from both 'close' and 'distant' countries. In spite of this, those companies don't seem to take this into consideration in the management of the selection and training phases of the expatriation process. In addition, we identified some differences between the expatriates and the HR managers' perceptions of the management of expatriation processes that can partially explain the high incidence of problems concerning cultural adaptation that Brazilian companies face as a result of the challenge posed by the psychic distance. This paper discusses the topic of first sexual intercourse in adolescence focusing on the course of ten young girls with experience of induced abortion living in a favela in Rio de Janeiro. The analysis uses the description of the process of entry into sexuality as a strategy to elucidate the context of pregnancy and the first clandestine abortion in the affective-sexual path of girls interviewed. The first sexual intercourse is a realm of sexuality and social life involving socialization, interpretation of rules and meanings, system of attitudes, ways of approximation, control and modeling of affections, emotions and gender relationships. The results showed that the age difference between couples in sexual initiation is signi- ficant, clarifying the context in which decisions on contraceptive methods, pregnancy and abortion were held. We noted that adolescents subject to difficult decisions about their sexuality and reproduction at a time of life where they still lack sexual and reproductive experience. The data collected show the importance of strengthening of public policies, discussions on gender and adolescent sexual and reproductive rights in many spheres of society, such as schools, family and other institutions. This paper examines the treatment of patients by a group of Spiritist healers in southern Brazil. After describing and analyzing a healing session, the practices are shown to be deviant from conventional Spiritism in two directions: (1) they employ a technique, called apometry, that they claim makes possible the transportation of a part of the patient's body to the astral world where it is treated by disincarnate doctors who do past life regressions; and (2) although a conventional Spiritist disobsession is performed, the healers invoke rival Afro-Brazilian spirits who often are shown to have caused the patient's symptoms. Building on the work of Csordas (1983), I hypothesize that the discourse employed by the healers moves the patient to a new reality or phenomenological world in which s/he is healed "not in the sense of being restored to the state in which s/he existed prior to the onset of illness, but in the sense of being rhetorically 'moved' into a state dissimilar from both pre-illness and illness reality...(Csordas 1983:346)." The new state, in this case, is the world of Spiritism. Unlike the Catholic Pentecostals Csordas studied who already were members of a primary group of believers, however, the patients treated by the Brazilian healers are mostly unaffiliated individuals who face the increasing uncertainty and insecurity of life in disorganized, anomic, urban Brazil. By encompassing modern science on the one hand, and aspects of the Afro-Brazilian traditions on the other, this healing group appeals to the often distraught white middle and lower-middle classes, providing them with therapeutic meaning that in many cases leads to healing, conversion, and the sense of security and safety that often accompanies identifying with and belonging to a religious group. This paper reports a study on the prevalence of hospital-treated schizophrenia in a large urban centre in Brazil. A sample of 124 individuals from a defined catchment area of São Paulo consecutively admitted to psychiatric hospitals due to acute episodes of non-affective psychoses were assessed by standardized instruments for mental state and social adjustment. The sample was predominantly white (72.6%), single (65.2%), Catholic (61.3%) and not born in that city (58.9%). Eighty-six subjects fulfilled DSM-III-R criteria for schizophrenia (69.3%), 15 were classified as schizophreniform psychosis (12.1%), and 7 as schizoaffective (5.6%). Almost two-thirds showed Schneider's 'first rank' symptoms. Social adjustment before admission was poor or very poor in nearly half the sample. Mean age at onset was 3.2 years earlier in men than in women (P = 0.007). No gender differences in mental state or social adjustment were observed. Individuals born outside São Paulo State had significantly more florid symptoms than those born in that state. These findings suggest that the features of schizophrenia in a large urban centre of Brazil are consistent with the patterns of schizophrenia described in Western developed countries. Expressed Emotion is a measure of family interaction, widely used in studies around the world to predict relapse in severe psychiatric disorders. The instrument was originally developed in London. It depends on subtle vocal nuances emerging in the course of the Camberwell Family Interview (CFI). The extent to which these can be picked up in different languages and different cultures is an interesting question. This paper presents the results of a study of EE from Brazil. The two raters achieved good reliability with master tapes in English, and the CFI was then translated into Portuguese. The raters also showed good reliability in Portuguese. This is at least consistent with the idea that similar behaviours can be picked up in different languages and cultures. Twenty nine relatives of 24 patients with schizophrenia were interviewed using the CFI. It was predicted that high Expressed Emotion would be rare in Brazil, a developing country. In fact, 59% of relatives were rated as high EE. Unlike studies from fully industrialized nations this high level of high EE was largely due to over-involvement. Our findings suggest both contextual and cultural influences on the relative salience of the different components of EE, a theme worth pursuing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Interprofessional education (IPE) is an important issue to insert in the debate on the reform of the education of health professions in Brazil. This paper provides details on an emerging study, based in Brazil, whose aim is to explore the use of IPE as a strategy to reform health professional education to become more collaborative in nature. The study has adopted a sequential mixed-methods approach, and will conduct focus groups, individual interviews and surveys with students, teachers and administrators based in two universities. Initial findings have indicated that, at present, participants were not aware of systematic strategies to bring students from different courses together for IPE, which has created problems for the development of knowledge and skills for collaborative work. Further data will be gathered to expand this analysis. Nevertheless, there is already clear evidence that there is a need to integrate and strengthen the use of IPE in Brazil, as a key route forward to strengthening the process of reorientation training of health professionals. This study aimed to identify the social representations of sports for Brazilian athletes with disabilities and to understand the extent to which sports can contribute to their empowerment. A total of 153 Brazilian athletes of various sports and with different types of disabilities took part in the study (122 men and 31 women; M = 31.91 years, SD = 9.46). The research was performed by an online survey by means of the free word association technique. All analyses were carried out using the Iramuteq computer program. The results indicated that the social representations of sports are related to individual and collective gains derived from practicing sports and that the representations are distinct according to the discipline practiced by the athlete. These results are discussed in light of the advantages of valuing the collective experience of athletes with disabilities as a group rather than as cases of individual overcoming. Background: Commensality is a remarkable human act, and tends to be more present among families. Nevertheless, it is possible that eating at the table is being taking for granted when one refers to family meals. Thus, this paper aims to analyze working mothers' discourses about family meals eaten at the table, on the couch and in the bed/bedroom.Methods: The participants were thirty mothers working in public universities of the Brazilian region called Baixada Santista. A qualitative study was conducted, using semi-structured interviews. In the transcripts the words "table", "couch", "bed", "bedroom" were located and the excerpts containing them were extracted and analyzed according to a classical and exploratory content analysis.Results: The table is a significant component of meals that unite the family. While for some the meal at the table is an enjoyable moment, it is a stiff moment for others. Indeed, manners and the notion of hierarchy appeared only for the table. Regarding the couch, it seems that the family chose to eat there, because it is a more casual and relaxed setting. Eating in the bed was related to precarity, intimacy and casualness. In the three settings, watching television was a common practice, replacing or being added to talking.Conclusions: Commensality is such an important practice that appears in different settings and even in precarity contexts. The table emerged as the maximal cornerstone of commensality. However, when it was not present, new arrangements were made. Especially the couch seems to be a new commensal space, less formal and rigid, but able to allow some collective conviviality. Eating in the bed was a less common practice. This article analyzes the development of the history of psychology in Argentina and Brazil, beginning with the emergence of the history of psychology at the beginning of the 20th century. The paper analyzes that such old historical reconstructions were written by the same authors or institutions that were introducing Psychology in the two countries. That is, the older historical productions in the field of psychology were Whig biased. An analysis of the last 30 years of history of psychology is also provided. The article describes institutional developments, including archives, journals, scientific meetings, and teaching of history of psychology in academic settings. Main groups devoted to history of psychology, both in Argentina and Brazil are described. Finally, it offers some thoughts on the future of history of psychology in the 2 countries. Values are often used to examine cultural variability. Yet, little research has focused on the functions that values fulfill and the implications of these functions for understanding cultural variability. This paper describes a theoretical analysis of the functions of values based on 2 widely accepted pan-cultural functions: values guide actions and express needs. The theoretical model proposes that the first function differentiates values according to the goals pursued (personal, central, or social goals), whereas the second function differentiates values according to the needs expressed (survival or thriving needs). A combination of these 2 functions yields 6 basic values (structural hypothesis) with specific marker values (content hypothesis). Support for the hypotheses was obtained in a large convenience national sample (N = 5,176) of Brazilian university students with confirmatory factor analysis and multidimensional scaling. Central values were located between personal and social values, and survival and thriving values separated into 2 regions. Theoretical and cross-cultural implications of the findings, especially the universality of the general structure of motivational aims, are discussed, along with interpretations of existing value scales from a functional perspective. In the late 1990s researchers in Pelotas Southern Brazil began documenting what they considered to be unacceptably high rates of licensed psychotropic use among individuals of all ages, including youth. This came as a surprise, since the vast majority of psychiatrists in Pelotas draw on psychoanalytic theory and approach pharmaceutical use, especially for children and adolescents, in a consciously tempered way. Drawing from a longitudinal ethnographic sub-study, part of a larger 1982 birth cohort study, this paper follows the circuitous trajectories of emergent pharma-patterns among “shantytown” youth over a ten-year period, exploring the thickly layered and often moralized contingencies in which psychodynamic psychiatrists' intention to resist excessive pharmaceuticalization both succeed and crumble. I juxtapose these trajectories with the growing salience of an “anti-biologizing” explanatory framework that psychiatrists and researchers are using to pre-empt the kind of diagnostics-driven “biopsychiatrization” so prevalent in North America. My analysis suggests that psychiatrists' use of this framework ironically contributes to their failed attempts to “resist” pharmaceuticalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Because of violence, poverty, and inequality worldwide, teachers are increasingly working in high-risk situations. To support teacher development, education researchers can usefully study professionals in the field to understand their working environments. This paper presents theory, method, and findings to consider how teachers in the high-risk favelas of Rio de Janeiro understand risk. Based on narrative inquiry design and analysis, findings indicate that what appears to be avoiding reality, coping, or being resilient, comes into view as teachers’ ways of narrating to mediate professional and community circumstances. In this paper we aim to identify and analyze prevalent diagnosis of teachers' health problems, especially those concerning the mental health. The data are acquired of federal university research in expansion-internalization process, which analyzed the impact of the multiple demands of this process at work, related to health and subjectivity. The methodological instrument was composed of: semi-structured interviews with teachers of different areas, campuses and academic units; analysis of documents and data on the expansion; systematization of data on nonattendance due to health problems collected in consultation with the books of medical committee of the institution. We place in order the presentation of such records. On the other hand, we pointed out, to develop the scope limit of the article, qualitative aspects of the disease process and/or suffering with intersections between identified diagnoses and analysis of interviews. This qualitative study analyzed the life course of ten Brazilian spiritist mediums who presented anomalous experiences (AEs). A socio-demographic questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were carried out with a non-clinical group, focusing on spiritual background. The inicial AEs were frightening and anguishing, as mediums have related uncertainty and feeling of being controlled; however, after their contact to Spiritism a new positive context was provided, through acceptance and supportiveness, promoting resilience, altruism and self-knowledge, besides an omnipotence status related to mediumship. It was concluded that harmful spiritual experiences may be positively transformed by reframing processes driven by organized religious doctrines. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Law of Family Living is the current law on adoption in the country. It creates an obligation of previous qualification to adopt and considers necessary to prepare adoptive parents in psychosocial and legal ways. This paper reflects, from an experience of support group to prospective adoptive parents, about the possibility of support group works as a tool to conflict prevention between parents and the child to be adopted. We can conclude, that to welcome a child, parents need understand their own filiations, inheritances and desires and the support group can be a form of awareness and preparedness of the adoptive parents for themes that permeate the filiation process. Background: During quarantine, both physical and mental health are a concern. To the same extent that physicians are a scarce resource during this crisis, psychiatrists and psychologists are also limited in number. To help practitioners and public managers decide where to invest their resources, the present research investigated the relationships of stress, depression and state anxiety levels with sociodemographic and behavioural variables. Methods: Data were collected in Brazil between March, 18 and 22, 2020 in 1,468 volunteers during quarantine. Participants with a history of or current mental health illnesses were excluded leaving 1,460 individuals in the final sample. The online assessment included instruments for psychological stress, depression and state anxiety. A sociodemographic and behavioural questionnaire with 15 items was used to assess other factors. Multiple linear regression was performed for each psychological outcome to determine a hierarchy of significant predictors. Findings: Stress, depression and state anxiety levels were all predicted by gender (women higher than men), quality of nutrition, attendance in tele-psychotherapy, exercise frequency, presence of elderly persons in quarantine with the person, obligation to work outside the home, level of education (more educated, lesser risk for mental illness) and age (younger age, greater risk). Having a perceived risk factor for COVID-19 predicted depression and state anxiety, but not stress. Finally, the presence of children in quarantine with the participant was a protective factor for depression. Interpretation: Even though this research is limited by its cross-sectional design, it is possible to infer that mental health varies by demographic attributes, obligations and health behaviours. Those who report higher distress must work outside the home during quarantine, live with an elderly person and carry a risk factor for COVID-19, among other factors. Identifying those who are most vulnerable would help to prioritize those who may need the greatest psychological aid and assist public health practitioners in developing support strategies. The Mental Impact and Distress Scale: COVID‐19 (MIDc) was constructed and validated by one of the first pandemic‐impact research teams in February 2020 and aims to assess psychosocial impacts of the COVID‐19 pandemic. The purpose of the present research was to determine the psychometric properties of the MIDc's Brazilian form and outline a sociodemographic profile of the pandemic's psychosocial impact in a Brazilian sample. Altogether, 1004 Brazilians living in different regions of Brazil completed an online survey. The adapted Brazilian version presented significant validity and reliability as assessed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach alpha and Spearman‐Brown coefficients, and associations with related psychological measures. Even though the Brazilian version differs from a previous (Macau) version, it contains both anticipation (i.e., the mental engagement processes of managing the unknowns) and modulation (i.e., the mental processes of insulation being activated to maintain a sense of normalcy) factors. Findings indicate greater vulnerability to modulation among younger and female participants. Black participants and those with lower family income were more prone to be economically impacted. Participants living in isolation were more vulnerable to anticipation. Thus, the COVID‐19 pandemic was found to differentially affect gender, ethnic, and social groups in Brazil. Background: Among the oldest old, aged 80 years and over, the prevalence of disability is higher than in other age groups and can be considered a predictor of mortality.Objective: To evaluate how psychosocial aspects and support networks influence the disability of these oldest-old individuals, performing a comparison between two longevous populations, one living in one of the poorest regions of Brazil, in the backlands of Paraíba, and another living in one of the largest urban centres in Latin America.Method: A cross-sectional study in which 417 oldest-old persons aged 80 years and older were interviewed, with data collected through the "Health, Welfare and Ageing" survey conducted in two Brazilian cities. Disability was assessed by reporting the need for assistance in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs). Bivariate and multiple analyses were performed using R statistical software.Results: Food insufficiency in the first years of life had negative repercussions on the disability of oldest old people living in the northeast. On the other hand, in this region, older people have a higher rate of support and live longer with their peers, which may contribute to reducing feelings of loneliness, depressive symptoms, and worse self-perception of health. In the Southeast, financial constraints, subjective poverty, and unmet needs may favour the development of functional limitations between long-lived people.Conclusion: Our findings indicate that regional differences in Brazil may influence the disability of older people aged 80 and older. In northeast Brazil, having no partner may contribute to disability for ADLs and IADLs; while, in the longevous population of São Paulo, having a worse self-rated health may contribute to disability for IADLs. The purpose of this paper is to present an experience report about the work of scholar psychologists in Elementary School, emphasizing the development of a teaching project. This project intended to improve the interpersonal relationship between students in a fourth grade class. Through group work, method proposed by the new pedagogy of Jean Piaget (1998), and problematizing education of Paulo Freire (1997), systematic meetings were held with students to reflect on ethical values, bullying and protection of child rights. It was observed throughout this project relationship and communication improvements between peers, what suggests that interventions have contributed to improve the relationship between students. The aim of this text is mapping and reflecting on the third generation of Brazilian researchers in gender psychology, doing an articulation with the integration of masculinities studies and queer studies on these groups of research. This generation, to which the authors of this paper belong, consists of groups of researchers already enrolled in an organized field, in which they use the gender category, concept recognized in the social sciences and humanities a long time ago. It is important to take into account that one of the main roles of this generation has been spreading and deepening the achievements, both theoretical and methodological, attained by earlier generations. In general, we can state that the third generation reflects the current value of plurality, the appreciation of new subjects on the feminism field on Brazil, bringing topics for research focused on the search for legitimacy in the new configurations of the Brazilian feminist movement. The purpose of this research paper was to understand social representations of depression in high school adolescents in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba. The study included 11 subjects aged between 14 and 17 years with depressive symptons, selected from a group of 296 adolescents. Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and the Semi- Structured Interview were two of the instruments used in the research, allowing results to indicate that depression is associated with feelings of sadness, such as discouragement and suicidal ideas; mostly those people without human initiatives and who don't make plans for the future. These feelings may be related to various behaviors, such as isolation, aggressiveness and difficulty to be friend someone or even establish relationships. These associations are a result of adolescents experiences, as well as information and representations linked to a youth group they belong, pointing out to the need for preventive and educational practices in educational institutions. Abstract: Explanations for the association between teen-childbearing and subsequent mental morbidity vary considerably, from those based on neurological theories of development to those investigating underlying social and economic determinants. Based on longitudinal epidemiological and ethnographic sub-studies of the 1982 Pelotas birth cohort study, this paper explores the hypothesis that teen childbearing and subsequent mental morbidity have become associated through the interplay of culture, society, and biology in situations where teen pregnancy has become a stigmatised object of scientific and public health attention. Results show that the effect of teen childbearing on subsequent mental morbidity remained significant in the multivariate analysis. Ethnographic analysis, together with epidemiological effect modification analyses, suggest that this association is partially accounted for by the fact that it is more pronounced amongst a specific subgroup of women of low socio-economic status who, being more politicised about societal injustice, were also more critically engaged with – and thus troubled by – the inequitable institutionalisation of life-cycle transitions. With time, these women became highly critical of the institutionalised identification of early childbearing as a key violation of life-cycle norms and the differential class-based application of scientific knowledge on its causes and consequences. Abstract: Smoking is a worldwide public health problem, and various communication strategies aimed at its cessation have been used. The objective of this paper was to explore differences over time of two communication strategies (gain-framed versus loss-framed) in encouraging calls to a Quitline, according to smoker''s degree of dependence. A study was conducted for four weeks among passengers of two selected subway stations in the city of Rio de Janeiro-Brazil (N average =12,500 passengers a day per station). The interventions – large posters with images and text based on central theme “shortness-of-breath” – also contained the Quitline number. Call rate differences between the strategies, overall and specific per study week, were calculated. Light smokers exposed to the positive-content message called on average 2.2 times more often than those exposed to the negative-content message (p <0.001). The absolute difference in call rates decreased after the first week of the study (p for the additive interaction between intervention and study week, 0.02). For heavy smokers, no differences between the two stations were observed. Additive interaction was found between type of smoker – light or heavy – and intervention (p =0.02). The results suggest that short-term positive-content campaigns based on issues pertaining to individuals'' daily routine could be effective in capturing light smokers. These results may have considerable public health impact, as the prevalence of less dependent smokers is much higher than that of heavier smokers. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

One of the merits of contemporary economic analysis is its capacity to offer accounts of choice behavior that dispense with details of the complex decision machinery. The starting point of this paper is the concern with the important methodological debate about whether economics might offer accurate predictions and explanations of actual behavior without any reference to psychological presuppositions. Inspired by an exercise of rational reconstruction of ideas, I aim to offer an interpretation of the process of freeing economic analysis from psychology at the end of the 19th century and the contemporary resurrection of behavioral approaches in the late 1980s. The objective of this paper is to discuss the formation of teachers for special education. The Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, was elected as the empirical field, in the period 1998-2001. Authors like Apple (1982), Sacristan (2000), Popkewitz (1989), Cambaeúva (1988) and Bueno (1993), Skrtic (1996), and Bourdieu (1989, 1992, 2001 and 2003) supported the reflections. One can perceive with this analysis the permanence of the biological basis and in a more accentuated manner, that of psychology, as explanations referring to special education. Legal Psychology is a specialty area arising from psychology as a science, in which traditional areas of education and action such Educational, Organizational and Clinic Psychology are compared. The very feature of this specialty is its interface with Law, the legal world, which produces epistemological and conceptual encounters and disagreements that intertwine the work of a legal psychologist. The sectors of Legal Psychology are many, since the most traditional ones such as those taking place in the Courts of Law and Prison up to innovating actions such as Mediation, Psychic Autopsy (retrospective evaluation by means of third-party information). This paper focuses on the Brazilian Legal Psychology, with the purpose of presenting and discussing the definition of Legal Psychology, its relationship with the Law, by highlighting its sectors of action according to the works presented in the 3rd Iberian American Congress of Legal Psychology held in 1999 in Brazil and it also intends to address the challenges faced today by the Brazilian Legal Psychology. Based on the notion of discourse presented by Michel Foucault, this paper attempts to demonstrate the construction of aids through the medical discourse that began to designate the HIV virus as an ethiological agent, instead of coming from multicausal factors. It sought to evaluate the extension of such change in the nosographic categories that defined the concepts of risk group, risk behavior and vulnerability. The article sustains that the notion of risk group was responsible for the subjective and social representation of aids and for its changing into an epidemic. It pleads that the power of such representation was an impediment for the prevention campaigns' effectiveness, due to the particularities of the Brazilian culture. It concludes by pointing out that the present designation of aids as a controllable chronic infection can serve as a prevention strategy and also to the transdisciplinary researches. The current research aimed to examine the reasons people are single, that is, not in an intimate relationship, across eight different countries—Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, and the UK. We asked a large cross-cultural sample of single participants (N = 6,822) to rate 92 different possible reasons for being single. These reasons were classified into 12 factors, including one's perceived inability to find the right partner, the perception that one is not good at flirting, and the desire to focus on one's career. Significant sex and age effects were found for most factors. The extracted factors were further classified into three separate domains: Perceived poor capacity to attract mates, desiring the freedom of choice, and currently being in between relationships. The domain structure, the relative importance of each factor and domain, as well as sex and age effects were relatively consistent across countries. Climate change poses several challenges worldwide, including the increase in severity and frequency of extreme weather events, such as droughts. As a result, there are projected environmental, economic and social impacts in several sectors, including agriculture. However, the extent of climatic impacts depends on farmers' awareness and their capacity for adaptation in response to changes in the climate. This study analyzes the factors that influence farmers' perception of climate change. Data were collected from a farm-household survey in the Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Using a logistic regression model, we identified that farm size, support of extension workers, number of conservation practices adopted, and ecocentrism value influenced positively the perception. Moreover, we found that farm size relied on government actions, subsidies, and anthropocentric value was affected negatively. These findings showed that socioeconomic and psychological factors shape farmers' perception of climate change. Extension workers and policymakers should increase farmers' awareness on climate change improving the communication on the nature importance for the ecosystem as a whole (ecocentrism) and/or explaining the importance of nature for human welfare (anthropocentrism). This study investigated the extent to which the postulates of socioemotional selectivity theory can be applied to the social relations of older adults mediated by the use of Facebook. Participants were 130 older adults recruited at public access services to computers and internet in the city of São Paulo (82.3% female; mean age: 67.9 years; mean schooling: 12 ± 5.4 years) who should have at least one year of Facebook use and a minimum network of 30 contacts. Sociodemographic data, pattern of Facebook use (e.g., frequency of use, network size, self-efficacy, quality of contacts) and data related to key socioemotional selectivity theory-related constructs (i.e., future time perspective and life satisfaction scales) were collected. Structural equation modeling for manifest variables (path analysis) was used to explore the relationships with life satisfaction levels. As predicted by the theory, direct and positive associations were found to age and life satisfaction and direct and negative for age and social network size. Future time perspective remained as a mediator between age and life satisfaction. Socioemotional selectivity indicators such as reduction in network size and enhanced emotional closeness were not associated with life satisfaction. The data suggest that social relations mediated by Facebook may favor other strategies that maximize well-being without necessarily downsizing the social networks or selecting partners according to socioemotional criteria. Background: Dating violence has an alarming prevalence among Brazilian adolescents. School-based preventive programs have been implemented, but remain isolated initiatives with low reach. Health communication strategies based on innovative technologies with a high potential of diffusion are urgent. This study aimed to develop a computer-tailored intervention to prevent victimization and perpetration of dating violence among Brazilian youth.Methods: The intervention, called Dating SOS (SOS Namoro), is based on the I-Change Model and attachment theory and is a comprehensive preventive program targeted to young people with a current partner. The intervention design included the stages of needs assessment; definition of objectives of change; development of the library of messages; elaboration of a questionnaire for tailoring feedbacks according to the relevant variables; integration of the content in the software Tailor Builder; pre-testing; and usability and efficacy evaluation planning. Dating SOS is composed of four online sessions. The first session gives a tailored orientation on attachment style and risk perception of violence. The second session addresses knowledge on conflict management, positive and negative social models of intimate relationships and an action plan to improve everyday interactions. The third session covers social norms, self-efficacy and an action plan to cope with conflicts. The fourth session discusses attitudes, social support and an action plan to protect from violence. Improvements on the interface and tailoring refinement was done after pre-testing to improve attractiveness and decrease risk of iatrogenic effects.Discussion: The principal merit of the present study resides in the development of an innovative strategy based on the qualified use of the internet for education surrounding romantic relationships and the prevention of dating violence among adolescent and young Brazilians, a hitherto unaddressed need in the field. The low professional insertion of psychologists in Brazilian sports teams, as well as the Sport Psychology course being seldom offered in undergraduate Psychology courses, may reflect in the current scenario of scientific research in Brazil. It is still not clear what Graduate Programs (GPs) have adopted directions regarding the development of studies in Sport and Exercise Psychology (SEP) research fields since an assessment or mapping of scientific knowledge production in this area has not yet been performed involving Exercise and Sport Science and Psychology GPs. This study aimed at investigating institutional research and their themes in SEP from these graduate programs. Studies were selected and retrieved from a national database (Sucupira Platform), that contains all registered researches from all Exercise and Sport Science (n = 31) and Psychology (n = 84) GPs in the country. Data were analyzed through R software using text mining techniques, latent semantic analysis and K-means clustering. Results revealed that research involving SEP is predominantly being developed at Exercise and Sport Science GPs (n = 171; p < 0.01) in comparison to psychology GPs (n = 39), mostly located in the south and southeast regions of Brazil. This research has focused on the effects of physical exercise and quality of life, while Psychology GPs have analyzed sport as associated with health and education, as a way to promote social support and to study sports' psychological aspects. It was concluded that Exercise and Sport Science GPs had the most significant contribution to SEP. Investigations were focused on the interface of exercise with quality of life, health and education, with gaps existing in programs advancing in the studies on sports and performance. Crossbreeding has been used to improve performance in beef cattle, however the effects of breed composition on methane (CH4) production, yield and intensity from cattle raised in tropical intensive and integrated systems remain unknown. To assess the impact of breed composition on performance and methane emissions, Nellore (NEL; yr 1: BW = 171.5 ± 19.4 kg; n = 10; yr 2: BW = 215.8 ± 32.3 kg, n = 25) and Angus x Nellore crossbred (AN; yr 1: BW = 214.2 ± 26.4 kg, n = 10; yr 2: BW = 242.5 ± 32.2 kg, n = 25) were compared. The animals grazed on integrated crop-livestock system in the growing phase (stocking rate 2452 kg BW/ha, herbage mass 4,884 kg dry matter (DM)/ha, forage allowance 5.9 kg DM/100kg BW) and then were finished in a feedlot. Steers (n = 8) from each breed composition were randomly selected in each phase to measure CH4 production using a sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) tracer technique and DM intake (DMI) using titanium dioxide. Compared with NEL, AN had both superior total gain and average daily gain (ADG) in the grazing period. The AN presented greater ADG in the feedlot with a shorter finishing period and resulted in greater carcass yield and carcass ADG. Methane production (kg/period) was lower in NEL (19% less) than AN in grazing (P<0.01), and no difference was observed in feedlot. The NEL had less CH4 intensity (CH4/BW) in grazing but greater CH4 per unit of ADG in the feedlot compared to AN. Breed composition did not influence the CH4 yield (CH4/DMI) in either phase, despite the difference in feedlot DMI (kg/day). In conclusion, crossbreeding may be an option to improve performance and reduce the CH4 per ADG in tropical climate conditions, resulting in lower methane emission per kg of meat produced. Knodus nuptialis n. sp. is described from the Rio Curuá drainage, Rio Xingu basin, Brazil. It can be diagnosed from its congeners by having dentary teeth decreasing gradually in size posteriorly, outer premaxillary teeth row with five cusps, 12–15 branched anal-fin rays and a single humeral spot. The species presents notable sexual dimorphism consisting of densely concentrated nuptial tubercles on head, body, and fins, gill-gland, and bony hooks in the anal fin of mature males. It was found that these sexually dimorphic features are useful and functional in males of the new species only during the reproductive season and after this period, they become atrophied, and eventually disappear. The list of characiform species presenting breeding tubercles is updated and nine species and two genera of the Characidae, Deuterodon and Bryconacidnus, are for the first time reported to have breeding tubercles.
