Changes have recently been passed in the Norwegian legislation, allowing for more exchange of patient information between health personnel. These legal changes came as a result of a long and still ongoing debate concerning the potential conflict between confidentiality issues and patient safety as health care is getting more fragmented. At the same time, an increasing number of patients now make use of their legal right to access their patient record. In this paper, we shed light on some of the reasons why patients request a copy of their record. We report the preliminary results from an interview study in which seventeen patients who have asked for a copy of their patient record following a hospital stay have been interviewed. In our interview study, securing transmission of information between health care workers is one of the main reasons for requesting a copy of the record. We will discuss how this finding might contribute to the ongoing debate.

Knowledge of neuroscience, access to reliable sources of information, critical thinking, and research skills can help individuals make the right decisions regarding their health and well-being. This does not apply exclusively to students but also to a multi-professional audience that acquires new knowledge and skills and thus refines the content learned so far and goes beyond it. Therefore, the primary mission of the Section of Neuroscience Osijek is to popularize neuroscience by organizing lectures, writing various projects, working in the laboratory, participating in festivals and congresses, translating science-popular speeches, and many other creative ideas – ideas that awaken the senses. The main goal of this lecture is to present our activities and efforts in improving neuroscience education of the public and to inspire and guide others with similar interests towards practical solutions. In addition to educating the public, we contribute to science through various research. The section under the mentorship of experienced professors serves as an introduction to science and critical thinking, where students, for the first time, encounter the creation and writing of projects and scientific papers. Thus students develop experiences in various fields and topics of research. Furthermore, they are encouraged to follow up on various scientific issues and to determine the validity and accuracy of information by analyzing it and identifying it as valid or weak. With the new knowledge acquired through our research and the progress of science, we will strive to provide reliable information sources and improve the public’s neuroscience education in cooperation with numerous experts in neuroscience and other disciplines. The article presents a study which examines the response rates to Web-based survey and paper-based survey implemented across 3 practice-based research networks (PBRNs). During the study, the survey was implemented electronically with 5 rounds of electronic solicitation for an Internet-based questionnaire and 2 rounds of a paper-based version. It was found that 24 percent of the total survey responses were received in the paper mode despite intense promotion.

The article reports on the development and use of behavioral objectives for improving the field experiences in student teaching presented by the Directors of Student Teaching at the State of Illinois Colleges and Universities, both private and public institutions. A form of position paper regarding this importance issue was made to present the opinions of the directors. The behavioral objective is to examine narrowly the work of the beginning teacher and focus attention on defined skills and behaviors to be achieved. The development and use of behavioral objectives are one approach on the problem of making pertinent efforts on improving the teaching education.

During the period June 1955 to May 1956, 779 pages of editorial matter were published. Of this total 460 pages were of articles, 207 pages were book reviews and book notes, 61 pages were official reports and news, and the remainder 51 pages were miscellaneous. In the indicated period 288 papers were received and 72 published. As was the case for the two years preceding, about one article was published for every four received. The average time between the receipt of an article and final action upon it was approximately seven weeks. Once again the constructively critical work led to the successful revision of a number of papers that might otherwise have proved unavailable for publication. The average interval between the acceptance of a paper and its publication was approximately five months, with a range of three to nine months. As mentioned above, official reports and news used 61 pages, or 8 per cent of the total editorial matter. The Editor renews his recommendation to the Society that these functions be discharged by the establishing of a new journal devoted to items of professional in distinction to scientific importance.
