The bachelor thesis entitled "The depiction of Czechoslovakia in the years 1989 - 1990 through the eyes of viewers in the television series Vyprávěj" deals with the question of how the perception of the portrayal of a particular stage of contemporary history (the November Revolution of 1989 and the social events of the early 1990s) in the series differs between two different groups of viewers, the memorials and the non-memorials. The thesis consists of pilot research conducted with two respondents, each representing one of the two audience groups. Their experience of watching and perceiving the series is explored through a semi-structured interview method with predetermined thematic headings. On a theoretical level, the thesis explores how the format of the series: the memory medium, utilizes concepts of nostalgia along with cultural and communicative memory, while considering account the specificities of post-television audiences. Furthermore it describes the relation between memory and history, as well as presenting the specific importance of the period 1989-1990 in modern Czechoslovak and Czech history. This diploma thesis deals with the interaction of male members of the fitness culture with content referring to this topic on social media. The diploma thesis examines the connections between the monitored content, the desire to build masculinity, the satisfaction of men with their own body, or the idea of an ideal male body. The aim of this thesis is to answer the questions of how men interpret media content, which suppose to inspire the creation of healthy lifestyle habits, and whether, or how, this content contributes to their approach to the fitness culture. Research shows that men attribute a significant influence to social media on their concept of fitness as a lifestyle. These participants talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the content of fitspiration, which affect the perception of their own body and mental well-being. Although, social media contributions motivate them to improve themselves and achieve better results, images of masculinity on social media force them to focus on the aesthetics of the body, the amount of muscles rather than on the quality of life, health and other benefits from the regular physical activity.

The topic of the diploma thesis The role of advertising in the life of pensioners dedicates to czech pensioners and deals with an individual aspects of their relationship with advertising. The first part of the diploma thesis deals with the theoretical concent, which desribes the audience from the general perspective, history, new media and selected researches. The next chapter focuses on the pensioners themselves. I try here to define the basic concepts that are associated with them in terms of sociology and lifestyle of this older generation. The space is also devoted to the consumer beviour of pensioners, which is influenced by certain aspects of their lives. The diploma thesis focuses on the role of the media in the lives of parents on maternity and parental leave and how they satisfy their needs through use of media. The thesis is based on the uses and gratification theory and especially on the typology of media-personal interactions defined by Denis McQuail. The aim of the thesis is to find out, through twenty interviews with mothers and fathers living in the household with a child or children, for what purpose the media are used by this specific group. The thesis includes a theoretical anchoring of the approach of uses and gratification theory concerning its historical development during the 20th century, but it also focuses on its concept at present after the spread of new media. The theoretical part of the thesis also deals with the characteristics of maternity and parental leave and it tries to identify everyday activities associated with this period and its positive and negative aspects. Thesis Representation of fat people in chosen media content is audience research based on perception of thickness, related to characters from three selected czech television series. Fat Studies was primary science literarture source for thesis theory and practical research part is using both, quantitative and qualitative methodology. Quantitative method of data collection were self-serviced questionnaire shared throught internet. Qualitative method used half- structured personal interviews. Thesis is trying to answer, if there is existing correlation between thickness (body constitution) of character and popularity based on character personality. This correlation was statisticaly confirmed only for characters, which are considered strongly obese. Not for any other type of characters. Another findings confirmed, that there is strong positive correlation between popularity of personality and character attractiveness.

The aim of this thesis was to analyse the reception of the Fifty Shades book trilogy and a film adaptation of its first part from the perspective of a female audience - both women who like the books and/or the film and women who do not like them. The thesis sought to describe the fundamental ways of the reception of the Fifty Shades phenomenon and to connect them to media and public discourse about the trilogy. The research questions were particularly focused on women's motivations to reading the books and/or watching the film, their approach to and evaluation of the trilogy. A part of the thesis was also a comparison of the two groups of female readers and viewers regarding the questions mentioned above and a connection of those questions with media and public discourse about Fifty Shades. During the conducted research 13 individual semistructured interviews with female readers and viewers of Fifty Shades have been done. The gained data were analysed by using the grounded theory method (particularly in vivo coding and axial coding). This fundamental concept is initially set in a broader context. Closer are characterized by celebrities as a publicly-known media figures, and the audience as active recipients of stimulus. There is a concept called. Ordinary stars, as well as focus on issues not only fandom, but also specific terms such as adoration and celebrity stalking celebrities. After outlining the basic theoretical insight is explored basic concept - parasocial relationship. The practical part with respect to the overall theme of the work is carried out using semi-structured interviews with rock stars, fans steady on one side and ordinary fans of the stars on the other. Based on the results and authentic materials are analyzed each category. The work aims to explore how similar concepts related to celebrities, as well as different approaches to media stars.

The thesis "Audience reception to the paradoxical narrative in the series Game of Thrones" focuses on the research of the audience and its reactions to the unusual plot twists in the series Game of Thrones producted by HBO. The Audience and its reactions to specifically selected twists were researched through qualitative methods of deep semi-structured interview which was carried out with ten respondents. "Primary" audience, i.e. the viewers who had not read any books from the Ice and Fire saga before watching the show, was choosen as a research sample for this study. Reactions of this audience are more spontaneous and unpredictable. The primary aim of the research is to find out how viewers react to the newly defined paradoxical narrative in the Game of Thrones series and why they keep watching this series despite its unusual plot twists.

This thesis discusses the ways of how physically handicapped fans of Game of Thrones, a television series, identify with characters like or dislike and answers the questions how physically handicapped fans choose who they favour and who they don't, how they identify with them and how is their interpretation linked to their own experience of being handicapped and how their social reality influences how they perceive the media reality. The research reveals orthodoxies of power of the dominating ideology of being fit, against which "the ill" and "powerless", define themselves, albeit subconsciously; it describes the difficulties, connected with their handicap, which they project into the series, behaviour strategies resulting from this phenomenon and how the world around interferes; and, last but not least, it confirms sociological premises of deepening empathy on the basis of different dimensions of one's own identities and experience. The qualitative research of audience is based on semi- structured interviews and deploys the interpretative approach, while the results are coded using the method of anchored theory. The dissertation is titled "The trend of zombification in a current film and series production - audience-based research" and is aimed at explaining why people seek zombie themed series and movies. In the theoretical part, the author introduces the concept of a zombie in terms of its dominant position within the popular culture. With the historical background and the theoretical frame of the topic, the results of the audience research, that was focused mainly on the fans of a zombie genre, will be presented. By comparison of the media product discourse and the public discourse, the analysis reve als the hypothesis describing the relationship between the audience and the media content with a zombie theme. The research is based on a qualitative method of grounded theory. The methods of semi-structured interview and participant observation were used to collect the data.

The purpose of my thesis is to analyse watching medical dramas by professional medical stuff. This thesis is composed of eight chapters, each of them dealing with different aspects of medical dramas and audiences. Chapter one is introductory describes the influence of media on society. Chapter two is focused on the relation of media and audience. The chapter consists of five parts. Part one focuses on the definition of audience. This diploma thesis named "Young people and its relationship with printed newspapers in the period of the new media" shows the way of treating the printed newspapers by the nowadays young generation within the Czech Republic. The thesis is based on the hypotheses predicting the tough situation and future position of printed newspapers. Concerning the experts' predictions the sole existence of the newspapers could be threatened by uninterested approach of young readers. The first part of the article shows the young people relationship to the printed newspapers as presented in selected international surveys and researches. The conclusions of these materials are essential sources used in my own further survey. As a part of the article the specific data presenting the situation of the Czech newspapers market are presented. It shows the printed newspapers decreasing demand which is significant as well as on the Czech Republic market. The methodology of the research is presented in the next part of the article. As a proper method the quantitative analysis is selected - the "focus-groups" method. The tested sample was forty of students in total. Diploma thesis "The history of television audience research methodology in Czechoslovakia and in the Czech Republic" deals with measurement methodology of TV ratings with focus on the recapitulation of the whole process of data acquisition. In the first part of the work, the author approaches theories about audience measurement and social use of television. The following part already concentrates on the development of the audience measurement methodology from the diary method to electronic measurement. The diary method measurement is divided into three periods: measurement before 1970, surveys in 1970 - 76, measurement after 1976. As for electronic measurement author deals with measurement methodology and development of new technologies. The work is enclosed by the brief summary of the audience measurement methods in other selected countries.

This thesis, titled Media reflection of TV ratings results before and after the introduction of electronic measurement, focuses on usage and presentation of TV ratings results in the Czech print media. The phenomenon of TV ratings is first discussed on the theoretical level and the initial part is dedicated to description of media functioning from the economic point of view [primarily the attitude of the Czech media scene toward TV ratings measurement]. Subsequently, the attention is aimed at the TV audience and its surveying. The author distinguishes between commercial and academic audience surveying and also deals with the history of TV audience research and measurement worldwide and also in the Czech Republic. He focuses primarily on the critique of the use of quantitative methodology based surveys for TV ratings. The second part of this thesis is based on the content analysis of three main Czech daily newspapers in 1996 - 1999 (specifically columns dedicated to the culture related topics).

The target of the thesis Relation between Textual Devices and Popularity of Media Text on the Example of Radio Series "Tlučhořovi" is to reveal if there exist any connection between significant textual devices used in the series and its popularity and success. As methods there are used semiotic analysis of sample of the series episodes and "respondent interview" with the listeners. In the first there is focus mainly on particular textual devices and in the second on what respondents consider to be reasons why they do listen to the series. Significant textual devices are one of the central themes of cultural studies and this work sets itself a task to deduce from findings conclusion which would be generalizable to relation between media texts and their audiences universally.
