The article discusses a study to determine a basis selection method for truncated nuclear shell-model calculations which is constructed using the eigenvectors of the Hamiltonian system. Topics discussed include application of interacting shell model in other quantum many-body systems such as quantum chemistry and atomic and molecular physics, calculation of wave function amplitudes, and determination of excitation energies for the study.
