Purpose. The aim of the study is to assess the impact of a multifaceted education strategy for Uyghur patients with glaucoma on their anxiety, satisfaction, and comprehension of disease information in rural China. Methods. This study recruited 100 patients who were randomized into two groups: the control group that received a conventional consultation and the intervention group that received a multifaceted education approach. Information comprehension was evaluated using a 15-item questionnaire. A 6-item State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-6) score was used to assess patient anxiety levels. Satisfaction was evaluated on the day of discharge. Results. After education, patients in the intervention group scored significantly higher than those in the control group on their knowledge of glaucoma (p ≤ 0.001). Education level, family history of glaucoma, and number of glaucoma clinic visits were independently associated with baseline scores (p = 0.038, 0.002, and 0.017, respectively). The age was negatively correlated with scores (p ≤ 0.001) after education. The STAI-6 score of the intervention group was 28.50 ± 5.13, which was significantly lower than that of the control group (32.50 ± 6.47, p = 0.001). Income levels were negatively correlated and the duration of glaucoma was positively correlated with STAI-6 scores (p ≤ 0.001 and p = 0.003 , respectively). Overall satisfaction was significantly higher in the intervention group (p ≤ 0.001). The knowledge score was positively correlated with overall satisfaction and follow-up probability (both p ≤ 0.001). The STAI-6 score was negatively correlated with overall satisfaction and follow-up probability (p = 0.017 and 0.006, respectively). Conclusions. This new multifaceted educational strategy can enhance patients' knowledge of glaucoma, reduce their anxiety, and improve their satisfaction. Background: Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is spreading around the world currently, seriously threatening people's health and global security as an international public health emergency. The objective of this study is to summarize China's countermeasures and experience in response to the COVID-19 emergence in order to serve as a warning for the global COVID-19 prevention and control, and further provide some suggestions for global fighting to COVID-19.Methods: Content analysis, expert consultation, and high frequency word analysis were applied in this study. Relevant data and information were collected from official websites, the experience accumulated in China during the fighting to the novel coronavirus, and suggestions from some experts.Results: As of March 29, 2020, China had accumulated 82 419 confirmed diagnoses, and the mortality rate was 4.01%; in the mean time, the global had accumulated 596 042 confirmed diagnoses, and the mortality rate was 4.76%. Although the mortality of COVID-19 was not so high, its harmfulness couldn't be ignored. Ten facts during COVID-19 epidemic in China were summarized in the study, including: the COVID-19 is highly contagious and can be spread through many channels; although elderly people and people with underlying diseases are susceptible, young people can also be victims; isolation is the most effective way to reduce the risk of COVID-19, and secondary disasters induced by COVID-19 should be emphasized in advance. High frequent words of experts' suggestions mainly includes: material, prevention and control, pathogeny, propaganda, education, hygiene, technology, medical care, overall planning, policy, panic, etc. The main concerns of experts are from four aspects: publicity and education, various subjects, medical materials and law construction.Conclusions: COVID-19 is a new infectious disease worldwide, and its infectious source, transmission route, susceptible population, and therapy are not clear. In the face of the COVID-19 epidemic, no country can stand alone to maintain its own safety. People from all over the world should put aside their difference in ideology, religious belief, politics, economy, and culture, and only by global cooperation and globally unified actions, can we successfully overcome COVID-19 in the end. Background: Little is known about frailty in Chinese nursing home residents.Aims: (1) To evaluate the prevalence of frailty in nursing home residents according to the FI-Lab or FRAIL-NH; and (2) to compare the predictive validity of these two tools for mortality.Methods: We conducted a prospective study in four nursing homes in China. Frailty was assessed using the fatigue, resistance, ambulation, illness, loss of weight, nutrition, and help with dressing questionnaire (FRAIL-NH) and frailty index based on common laboratory tests (FI-Lab), respectively. The survival status was collected via medical records or telephone interviews. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated to estimate the area under the ROC curves (AUCs) for FI-Lab and FRAIL-NH in relation to mortality. Cox proportional hazard models were applied to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for mortality by FRAIL-NH and FI-Lab, separately.Results: We included 329 participants. The FI-Lab score was significantly and strongly associated with the FRAIL-NH score (r = 0.799, p < 0.001). Frailty was defined as the FI-Lab score ≥ 0.3 or the FRAIL-NH score ≥ 6, and the prevalence of frailty was 56.2% and 58.7%, respectively. Seventy-three participants (22.7%) died during the 1-year follow-up. The FI-Lab (AUC 0.700, 95% CI 0.647-0.750) was slightly better than the FRAIL-NH (AUC 0.676, 95% CI 0.622-0.727) for predicting mortality (p = 0.025). After adjusted for age and gender, the increment of the FI-Lab score was associated with mortality (adjusted HR per 0.01 increment in score 1.07, 95% CI 1.05-1.09), the increment of the FRAIL-NH score was also associated with mortality (adjusted HR per 1 increment in score 1.28, 95% CI 1.19-1.46).Conclusion: The FI-Lab and FRAIL-NH are valuable for predicting mortality in Chinese nursing home residents. Abstract Objective The Mini Sarcopenia Risk Assessment (MSRA), a new sarcopenia screening tool, has 2 versions: MSRA-7 (full version, 7 items) and MSRA-5 (short version, 5 items). We aimed to compare the diagnostic values of MSRA-7 and MSRA-5 to SARC-F for screening sarcopenia. Design A diagnostic accuracy study. Setting A community in Chengdu, China. Participants Older adults. Measurements Muscle mass, strength, and physical performance were tested using a bioimpedance analysis (BIA) device, handgrip strength, and walking speed, respectively. Using the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) criteria as the gold standard, the sensitivity/specificity analyses of the 3 scales were assessed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and area under the ROC curves (AUC) were used to compare the overall diagnostic accuracy of the 3 scales. Results We recruited 384 participants. Against the AWGS criteria, SARC-F had a sensitivity of 29.5% and a specificity of 98.1%, and the MSRA-7 had a sensitivity of 86.9% and a specificity of 39.6%, whereas the MSRA-5 had a sensitivity of 90.2% and a specificity of 70.6%. The AUCs of SARC-F, MSRA-7, and MSRA-5 were 0.89 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.86-0.92], 0.70 (95% CI, 0.65-0.74), and 0.85 (95% CI, 0.81-0.89), respectively. The differences in AUCs between SARC-F and MSRA-7 and in those between MSRA-7 and MSRA-5 were statistically significant (P <.001), but the difference between SARC-F and MSRA-5 was not statistically significant (P =.130). Conclusion MSRA-5 may serve as a novel screening tool for sarcopenia in Chinese community-dwelling older adults. SARC-F, a class screening tool, is also suitable for this population. MSRA-5 and SARC-F demonstrated a similar diagnostic accuracy in our study population. MSRA-5 has better sensitivity, whereas SARC-F has better specificity.
