Objectives: The present research was conducted to evaluate the psychometric properties (validity and reliability) of Persian version of strength and cardiovascular endurance items of functional fitness assessment test in Iranian elderly. Methods & Materials: The statistical sample consisted of 200 elderly (100 males and 100 females) with mean aged 68.05±5.21 years old that were selected by random cluster sampling in Tehran city. The tools used included strength and cardiovascular endurance items of Functional Fitness Assessment test for adults over 60 years (FFAA). Content, structure and concurrent methods was used to evaluate validity. For evaluation of concurrent validity, the hand grip and treadmill tools were used. In order to assess the reliability, the temporal and internal consistency methods were used. Results: The results showed that the content validity of strength and cardiovascular endurance items were confirmed (90%-95%). Results of construct validity showed that the Pearson correlation coefficient between age with strength and cardiovascular endurance items is meaningful significant (0.71-0.75). Results of Pearson correlation coefficient test showed that the correlation between strength and cardiovascular endurance items and laboratory tests related to each of them were obtained for high levels (0.90-0.96). Therefore, the correlation obtained indicates the concurrent validity of this test items. Also, results showed that the test-retest interclass correlation test with a one-week interval, indicate that the temporal stability is acceptable (0.81-0.85). Furthermore, the results of Cronbachchr('39')s alpha coefficient showed that the internal consistency of each item was acceptable (α>0.75). Conclusion: Results indicate that the strength and cardiovascular endurance items in elderly sample are valid and reliable, and the Persian version of these items can be used to assess the functional fitness among Iranian elderly people.

Background: We aimed to prepare a nanofluid, containing f-MWCNTs, and investigate the antibacterial efficacy of f-MWCNTs+ ciprofloxacin (cip) on Klebsiella pneumoniae by evaluating the virulence gene expression. Methods: This study was carried out from 2019 to 2020, in the Department of Mycobacteriology and Pulmonary Research, Pasteur Institute of Iran. The nanofluid containing antibiotic and f-MWCNTs were prepared by the ultrasonic method. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of ciprofloxacin and f-MWCNTs were determined using the broth micro dilution MIC tests. For examining the antibacterial effects, the expression level of virulence genes, under the influence of f-MWCNTs, was evaluated by a real-time PCR. Results: The effect of 8 µg/ml ciprofloxacin + 400 µg/ml f-MWCNTs, completely inhibited the growth of the resistant isolate of K. pneumoniae, while, in the ATCC 700,603 isolate, 2 µg/ml ciprofloxacin with 100 µg/ml f-MWCNT could inhibit a bacterial growth. In the resistant K. pneumoniae clinical isolate, after f-MWCNT+cip treatment, the expression of fimA, fimD, wza, and wzi genes was significantly downregulated, compared to the ciprofloxacin treatment, and upregulated, compared to the negative control. For the ATCC 700,603 isolate treated with f-MWCNT+cip, the expression of fimA, fimD and wza virulence genes showed upregulation, compared to the negative control and downregulated in comparison with the ciprofloxacin treatment. Conclusion: Simultaneous treatment of resistant isolate of K. pneumoniae with f-MWCNTs +antibiotic could improve the effectiveness of antibiotic at lower doses, due to the reduced expression of virulence genes in comparison with antibiotic treatment, besides the increased cell wall permeability to antibiotics.

Background: The intensive care unit is one of the most critical parts of the hospital, where the services provided to patients are of great importance. Because nurses have a high volume of work and should respond to patients at the earliest time, the existence of a curriculum is essential. Therefore, proper planning can reduce their fatigue and dissatisfaction caused by the high volume of work. Materials and Methods: In this research, all activities performed by nurses in the intensive care unit during different shifts for patients, their timing and their GERT network were drawn. The time of each activity was calculated in 4 optimistic time, most likely time, average time and pessimistic time. Also, the total time of activities that can be done by a nurse for one patient from the beginning to the end of the shift can be calculated based on these four modes and an innovative method was used for planning the nursing activities. Results: The results showed that the total time spent by nurses is significantly different. Therefore, with the help of the proposed algorithm, the activities were allocated to nurses in a way that it created a time equilibrium and significantly reduced the standard deviation and time domain of assigned activities. Conclusion: The proposed method showed that it is better to allocate patientschr('39') work to nurses instead of allocating the patient to the nurse. This will cause all nurses with a fairly equal workload, which can increase the satisfaction of nurses and increase the quality of service.

Objectives This study aimed to compare the effects of sex and different types of attentional focus of supra-postural tasks on postural control learning in older adults. Methods & Materials A total of 80 older adults (mean [SD] age: 72.5[4.9] year) participated in this study. The participants, selected according to inclusion criteria, were randomly divided into eight groups of internal and external attentional focus based on supra-postural cognitive and motor task guidelines. The postural status was evaluated by measuring the centre of gravity alignment through a master balancing system (modified clinical test of sensory interaction and balance). Results The results showed that the men’s older adults with external focus in motor supra-postural task, had a better posture performance than the other groups (P

Objectives In general, the older adults have limited physical activity. Hence, this study aimed to determine the effect of physical activity on cognitive flexibility and perfectionism in older adults. Methods & Materials The study followed the causal-comparative research design. A total of 126 elderly people from the neighborhood, elderly community, parks, gardens and recreational areas in the first and third districts of Tehran were selected for this research work using purposive sampling method. The participants completed demographic, cognitive status, CHAMPS physical activity, Hill’s perfectionism, and cognitive flexibility questionnaires. Results A significant difference was observed in the relationship between perfectionism and cognitive flexibility in three groups of older adults with low, high and average physical activity levels (P

Objectives The purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of low and moderate intensity aerobic exercises on self-concept in older adults. Methods & Materials The research method was quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The statistical sample included 45 volunteer elderly men with age mean of 58.88±2.70 years old that divided randomly in two experimental groups (aerobic exercise with low and moderate intensity) and one control group. First, all subjects were evaluated by a proficient doctor to confirm their physical and mental health. Also, the maximum heart rate (HR) of subjects was obtained by subtracting one's age from 220. Furthermore, based on aerobic exercise type (40-50% Max HR for low intensity group and 60-70% Max HR for moderate intensity group) the target maximum HR was calculated for each subject. The exercise protocol consisted of 8 weeks aerobic exercises (2 sessions in per week) based on Rockport one-mile walking/running test. Exercise intensity was evaluated and controlled using specific chest belts. All subjects in per-test and post-test stages were completed the Tennessee Self-concept Scale 2 (TSCS2). Results In pre-test stage, the results showed that there were no significant differences between control and experimental groups in self-concept (P>0.05). On the other hand, results in post-test stage showed that there were significant differences between control and experimental groups in this variable (P
