In this paper, the use of a three-level inverter as a shunt active power filter is carried out, taking advantage of the benefits of multi-level inverter, namely, the reduction both in the overall switching losses and in total harmonic distortion. The main focus of this article is to investigate the potentialities of the inverter employed as shunt active power filter on the compensation of the reactive power and the mitigation of harmonics drawn from a nonlinear load and unbalanced sources. The most previously reported three-level inverter-based shunt active power filters have been controlled and monitored through conventional controllers, which require a complicated mathematical model. In order to overcome this problem, an extended intelligent controller is proposed for a three-level shunt active power filter. The aim of the proposed fuzzy logic control algorithm is to improve the behavior of voltage across the floating capacitors in steady/dynamic states and to minimize the switches commutations by taking into account the references of the harmonic currents injected in the network. The power electronic developments and it's integration in the electrical network has generally negative consequences. Indeed, in the presence of sinusoidal supply source and nonlinear load, static converters absorb non-sinusoidal currents, and consume reactive power. To limit the disturbances caused by these converters and to strengthen the system dynamics, we propose in this present paper in one hand an intelligent control of the DC link voltage and in the other hand the harmonic current controls injected in electrical network via fuzzy logic controller. In this context, we analyze two control types of the shunt active power filter to be integrated on the studied system. These control strategies are based on fuzzy logic and PI controller. Then, we present a harmonic identification method witch rise from the principle of the instantaneous active and reactive power calculating based on fuzzy logic control. • A centralized control strategy for an AC meshed MG is presented. • The strategy facilitates the management of power systems including several MGs. • The MG can be operated as a Virtual Synchronous Machine (VSM). • An extended load flow model is used to identify the PQ production of each DG source. This paper proposes a centralized control strategy for distributed generation (DG) sources connected to an AC meshed microgrid (MG). Through the proposed strategy, power production of distributed generators is managed such that the injected active and reactive powers at the point of common coupling are equal to predefined set-points. Thus, the MG is able to provide the main ancillary services including frequency and voltage control. An extended load flow model is used to identify active and reactive power production of each DG unit such that the total power injected to the utility grid satisfies the required setpoints. Hence, from the point of view of the transmission system operator (TSO), the whole MG can be seen as a single entity that behaves as a «PQ» generator. This control is intended to facilitate the management of power systems including a large number of microgrids and DG sources in terms of stability analysis, optimal reactive power dispatch, optimal power flow, etc. Furthermore, since the centralized control allows to set «PQ» power production to any predefined value, it was proposed to operate the whole MG using the concept of Virtual Synchronous Machine (VSM).
