Dynamic compensators, such as active power filter (APF) and static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), can be used to mitigate the low-frequency oscillations (LFO) in high-speed railway vehicle-grid systems. However, the small-signal impedances of APF and STATCOM are affected by that of vehicles, which makes it challenging to characterize the impedance of these devices directly and ensure stable operation. The traditional stability analysis is based on terminal impedances of source and load subsystems, which does not always provide sufficient insight into LFO suppression. In this article, a novel idea based on $dq$ -frame admittance decomposition is proposed to investigate the impact of APF and STATCOM on the system stability. The proposed approach is demonstrated in simulation and experimental results. It is shown that the control paths of the APF and STATCOM for measuring the vehicle current introduce their coupling with the vehicle. The resulting coupling admittance of these devices plays a significant role in the load admittance reshaping and determining their ability to enhance the system stability and suppress the LFO. To eliminate the low-frequency oscillation (LFO) phenomenon in the vehicle-grid system of high-speed railways, a single-phase cascaded H-bridge multilevel active power filter (APF) directly accessed to the 27.5-kV traction network is proposed in this article, which can provide the dynamic reactive and interharmonic compensation. To explore the mechanism of APF on LFO suppression, the dq-frame impedance model of vehicle-grid system with APF is established first. The impact of the second-order generalized integrator model and the duty ratio model on the impedance accuracy is discussed in detail. Then, based on the generalized Nyquist stability criterion and system power consumption criterion, the stability of vehicle-grid system and its sensitivity to parameters in different cases are compared. The results indicate that the proposed APF can significantly improve the low-frequency stability of vehicle-grid system and owns much better performance than the STATCOM proposed in previous literatures. Finally, the time-domain simulations in MATLAB and the experiments on the controller hardware in the loop platform are implemented, which further validate the accuracy of theoretical analysis and the superior performance of APF in LFO elimination. This paper proposes a fuzzy-observer-based control algorithm to improve the efficiency of traction dual rectifiers of high-speed trains and address the low-frequency oscillation issue induced by the interaction of the DC-link voltage controller with the traction dual rectifiers circuit parameters. The proposed observer checks for the errors in the system model by estimating the system premise variables, and the fuzzy controller then accurately compensates the estimated variables. The method is deduced from the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic model, which is described by a class of IF-THEN fuzzy systems. Fast computation with high precision is what makes them superior to proportional-integral-derivatives controllers. Their capability to deal with nonlinearity in time-varying systems makes them a suitable choice for traction dual rectifier control. The simulation model is formed in SIMULINK, and the waveforms are checked with a conventional fuzzy controller, predictive control, and conventional proportional-integral control. The proposed method can achieve better performance, such as fast transient, more damping, and small overshoot. Furthermore, the method can maintain stability when the system is subjected to external disturbance. Recently, the low-frequency oscillation (LFO) frequently happens in the vehicle-grid system of high-speed railways when electric multiple units (EMUs) are put into operation. As a possible solution, a single-phase cascaded H-bridge static synchronous compensator (CHB-STATCOM) directly connected to the traction network is applied to dynamically compensate the reactive power of vehicle-grid system. This paper focuses on the impedance modeling and stability analysis in the vehicle-grid system with CHB-STATCOM. Firstly, the vehicle-grid system is simplified to a single-phase rectifier with large grid inductance. The accurate dq-frame impedance of the rectifier system with CHB-STATCOM is derived in detail. Secondly, through the generalized Nyquist stability criterion (GNSC), the influence of CHB-STATCOM and its different control parameters on the stability of rectifier system is revealed. Thirdly, the excellent performance of CHB-STATCOM in suppressing the LFO and the accuracy of theoretical analysis are verified via time-domain simulations. Finally, to further verify the effectiveness of CHB-STATCOM in real applications, a dSPACE based controller hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation platform is established, which includes the physical control circuits of eight EMUs. The traction network voltage low-frequency oscillation (LFO) in high-speed railways easily leads to the traction blockade of electric multiple units (EMUs), which seriously affects the normal operation of high-speed railways. A passivity-based control (PBC) strategy for single-phase EMUs rectifier is proposed in this paper. First, for the single-phase EMU rectifier, the Euler–Lagrange (EL) mathematical model in dq frame is built, which can realize the decoupling of active power and reactive power. Second, according to the unique characteristics of the rectifier, it is proven that the rectifier is strictly passive, which is the premise of PBC controller design. Third, using the deduced EL mathematical model and the passivity of rectifier, the PBC controller for the single-phase rectifier of EMUs is designed using the damping injecting method. Next, compared with dq current control and interconnection and damping assignment PBC (IDA-PBC), it can be verified that the PBC controller has better dynamic and static characteristics, and can significantly suppress the voltage LFO of traction network. In these strategies listed in this paper, using the PBC, the single-phase rectifier input current has minimal total harmonic distortion, and the dc-link voltage has minimal oscillation. Finally, the dSPACE semiphysical experiment platform of the cascade system of EMUs and traction network is built. Simulation results are validated by the dSPACE semiphysical experiments, which indicate that the PBC has the better inhibitory effect for LFO as compared with that of the IDA-PBC and dq current control in single-phase EMUs rectifier.
