Background This study examines the role of universities and sustainable business values, along with the antecedents of the Theory of planned behavior (TPB), in predicting sustainable entrepreneurial intentions among Indian higher education students. Methods This cross-sectional study used a structured questionnaire to collect data from students at institutions providing entrepreneurial education. The structural equation modeling method of partial least squares (PLS) was employed for data analysis, path modeling, and data analysis. Our findings show that entrepreneurial attitudes, subjective norms, and sustainable business values affect sustainable entrepreneurial intentions. Moreover, our study highlights the crucial role of entrepreneurship education in fostering experiential learning among students and in assisting them in acquiring entrepreneurial attitudes and orientations. Results Our observations will be helpful to universities, higher education institutions, and policymakers in their efforts to enhance curricula and training materials. Comprehensive sustainability-related education would be beneficial for aspiring entrepreneurs enrolled in entrepreneurship programs. Conclusion This study acknowledges the importance of knowledge and skill acquisition in entrepreneurship education to foster entrepreneurial intention. Consequently, our findings have the potential to contribute to the economic growth of emerging economies and the establishment of new businesses.
