Violence in the university context presents a serious concern for higher education, due to the increasing number of violent episodes among young people. The sport modality played together with psychosocial factors such as self-concept or emotional intelligence effectively counteract these disruptive behaviours. The aim of this study is to test the relationship between the type of sport played, self-concept and emotional intelligence with violence in university students. The study was conducted with a sample of 1,057 Spanish university students among whom 43.8% (n = 463) were female and 56.2% (n = 594) were male. The TMMS-24 test was used to measure emotional intelligence and the SC-5 scale to measure self-concept. Those who do not play sport were found to have higher rates of direct and indirect violence. Likewise, young people involved in contact sports have the highest rates of direct violence. It is necessary to promote the practice of physical activity related to the development of emotional intelligence in order to reduce violent behaviour. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

3. Effectiveness of a Judo Intervention Programme on the Psychosocial Area in Secondary School Education Students.

Currently, many combat sports are pedagogically conceived as uneducational and unreliable for the development of young people. The present research aims to investigate the influence of a Judo intervention programme on the motivational climate towards sport, aggressive behaviour, emotional intelligence, and self-concept in secondary school students and to establish the relationships between them. This objective was broken down into (a) developing an explanatory model of the variables mentioned above and (b) testing the model equations through a multi-group analysis in terms of pre-test and post-test. The present study conducted a pre–post-test quasi-experimental design with a single experimental group. The sample consisted of a total of 139 adolescents (12.67 ± 1.066), 50.4% of whom were male (n = 70) and 49.6% female (n = 69). The results show that the intervention decreased all types of aggression and increased levels of emotional intelligence. An increase in social, physical and academic self-concept and decreases in the family and emotional areas were also observed. Finally, for the motivational climate, a tendency towards the ego climate to the detriment of the task climate was observed. It is concluded that the Judo intervention programme is effective in decreasing aggressive behaviour and effective in increasing levels of emotional intelligence and self-concept. El objetivo de estudio fue determinar y analizar las relaciones existentes entre el clima motivacional, autoconcepto físico y resiliencia, en base al género. Participaron 148 judocas con una edad media de 23.09 años (DT = 6.731) de Chile. Completaron los cuestionarios de clima motivacional (PMCSQ-2), autoconcepto físico (AF-5) y resiliencia (CD-RISC). Para el análisis estadístico se emplearon las ecuaciones estructurales, realizándose mediante multigrupos (masculino y femenino). Los resultados indicaron una bondad de ajuste aceptable del modelo, se determinó que la correlación entre el clima tarea y clima ego es mayor en mujeres, ellas consideran que cuando aumenta el clima motivacional se incrementa su propio autoconcepto físico y se genera un incremento en los sentimientos de satisfacción hacia la tarea y que en los hombres el aumento del autoconcepto físico provoca mayores niveles de resiliencia que en las mujeres. The aim of the study was to determine and analyze the relationships between motivational climate, physical self-concept and resilience, based on gender. 148 judokas participated with a mean age of 23.09 years (SD = 6.731) of Chile. For statistical analysis, structural equations were used, performed by multi group (male and female). The results indicated acceptable goodness of fit of the model, it was determined that the correlation between climate and ego climate task is higher in women, they consider that when the motivational climate increases increases its own physical self and generated an increase in feelings satisfaction to the task and that men increased physical self causes higher levels of resilience than in women. O objetivo do estudo foi determinar e analisar as relações entre clima motivacional, autoconceito físico e resiliência, com base no gênero. 148 judocas participaram com média de idade de 23,09 anos (DP = 6,731) do Chile. Questionários preenchidos clima motivacional (PMCSQ-2), auto físico (AF-5) e resiliência (CD-RISC). Para análise estatística, foram utilizadas equações estruturais, realizadas por multi-grupo (masculino e feminino). Os resultados indicaram uma qualidade aceitável de ajuste do modelo, determinouse que a correlação entre clima e ego clima tarefa é maior em mulheres, eles consideram que quando o clima motivacional aumenta aumenta seu próprio self físico e gerou um aumento na satisfação de sentimentos para o Tarefa e que os homens aumentaram o auto físico provoca níveis mais elevados de resiliência do que nas mulheres.

6. Asociación entre el autoconcepto y la práctica de actividad física en escolares de Granada

El autoconcepto es un factor clave en el desarrollo de la personalidad de los sujetos en la etapa de escolarización obligatoria, y la práctica de actividad física se configura como un elemento que favorece el desarrollo de un correcto estado de salud psicosocial. Por estos motivos, en la presente investigación se plantea como objetivo analizar la práctica de actividad física y el autoconcepto de los escolares, sobre una muestra compuesta por 530 escolares de ambos sexos (43,6% de chicos y 56,4% de chicas), con edades comprendidas entre los 10 y 12 años (M = 10.87 años; DT = .69), pertenecientes al tercer ciclo (quinto y sexto curso) de Educación Primaria en la ciudad de Granada (España). En la presente investigación se ha encontrado que los chicos son más activos físicamente que las chicas, las dimensiones del autoconcepto en las que obtienen mayor puntuación son la social y la familiar, y los alumnos físicamente activos presentan un autoconcepto más elevado. Como principales conclusiones del estudio se encuentra que existe una asociación positiva y directa entre el autoconcepto y la práctica de actividad física habitual; y las chicas tienen un mejor autoconcepto que los chicos., The self-concept is a key factor in the development of the personality of the subjects in the compulsory schooling stage, and the practice of physical activity is configured as an element that favors the development of a correct state of psychosocial health. For these reasons, in this research, we present how to explain the practice of physical activity and the selfconcept of schoolchildren, on a sample composed of 530 schoolchildren of both sexes (43.6% of boys and 56.4% of girls), with ages between 10 and 12 years old (M = 10.87 years, SD = .69), belonging to the third cycle (fifth and sixth year) of Primary Education in the city of Granada (Spain). In the present investigation it has been found that boys are more physically active than girls, the dimensions of self-concept in which they have greater importance are social and family life, and physically active students have a higher self-concept. As a result, there is a positive and direct association between selfconcept and the practice of habitual physical activity; and girls have a better self-concept than boys.

7. Multidimensional self-concept depending on sport practice in university students of Physical Education from Andalucía

El presente estudio se realiza en una muestra de 775 estudiantes universitarios que cursan la mención en Educación Física (EF) del Grado en Educación Primaria en la comunidad autónoma de Andalucía. Se pretende analizar las diferentes dimensiones del autoconcepto en base al tipo de deporte practicado y la frecuencia de práctica de Actividad Física (AF) en una muestra de futuros docentes en EF. Como principales instrumentos se emplean los cuestionarios Autoconcepto Forma-5 y PAQ-A. Los resultados muestran que los jóvenes que poseen un mayor autoconcepto general son los que practican deportes colectivos sin contacto. En relación al autoconcepto social, se observó que los participantes que practicaban deportes colectivos sin contacto obtenían las puntuaciones más elevadas, dándose la misma tendencia en la dimensión familiar del autoconcepto. Para la dimensión emocional son los estudiantes que practican deportes colectivos con contacto los que reflejan las mayores puntuaciones, observándose la misma tendencia para el autoconcepto físico. En relación al nivel de práctica de AF, se ha demostrado que aquellos estudiantes que practican deportes individuales con contacto son los que muestran la mayor frecuencia. Asimismo, poseer un mayor autoconcepto físico, social y emocional se asociaba a mayores niveles de práctica de AF. 9. Relación entre consumo de tabaco y alcohol y el autoconcepto en adolescentes españoles

The adolescent stage is an essential phase in the development of the individual; at this age social relations and the acquisition of personality are key elements, therefore the following study was proposed with the objectives of determining the self-concept of adolescents and each of its dimensions, as well as describing the habitual consumption of alcohol and tobacco in the adolescent population and to analyze the relationships between self-concept and harmful substances (alcohol and tobacco). A total of 2,134 adolescents from the province of Granada (Spain) participated in the study, which allowed the registration and evaluation of variables such as self-concept (AF5), tobacco consumption (FTND) and alcohol consumption (AUDIT). The results showed that global self-concept was high in those adolescents who in their majority were non-smokers, and alcohol consumption was only perceptible in three out of ten young people. Among the highest ranked dimensions were the family and social ones. An association was found between the dimensions of familial, academic and social self-concept and alcohol consumption; however it should be noted that the number of adolescents who drank alcohol was quite short so we must be cautious with this statement. La etapa adolescente constituye una fase esencial en el desarrollo de la persona; en estas edades las relaciones sociales y la adquisición de la personalidad son elementos claves, por tanto se planteó el siguiente estudio con los objetivos de determinar el autoconcepto de los adolescentes y cada una de sus dimensiones, así como describir el consumo habitual de alcohol y tabaco en la población adolescente y analizar las relaciones existentes entre el autoconcepto y las sustancias nocivas (alcohol y tabaco). Participaron un total de 2.134 adolescentes que permitió el registro y evaluación de las variables Autoconcepto (AF5), Consumo de Tabaco (FTND) y Consumo de Alcohol (AUDIT). Los resultados mostraron que el autoconcepto global era alto en los adolescentes, que en su mayoría eran no fumadores y el consumo de alcohol era perceptible únicamente en tres de cada diez jóvenes; y entre las dimensiones las más puntuadas eran la familiar y la social. Se encontró asociación en el caso de las dimensiones de autoconcepto familiar, académico y social con el consumo de alcohol, sin embargo debe señalarse que el número de adolescentes que ingerían alcohol era bastante escueto por lo que debemos ser cautos con dicha afirmación.

Esta investigación tiene como objetivo estudiar las relaciones existentes entre la actividad física, el autoconcepto y el rendimiento acadé- mico enjugadoras de baloncesto en categoría cadete. Es un estudio de tipo descriptivo y de corte transversal, realizado sobre una muestra de 75 escolares con edades de entre 12 y 16 años. Se han empleado como instrumentos de análisis los cuestionarios: AF-5de García y Musitu (1999) yuna hoja de autoregistro (en el que se incluyen las caliicaciones académicas y tiempo de práctica de actividad física). Los resultados revelan que la práctica deportiva favorece el autoconcepto académico, así como el rendimiento académico. La dimensión autoconcepto familiar se ve claramente afectada si se dedica mucho tiempo a la realización de actividad física. Aunque el número de horas de entrenamiento no inluyen directamente en el rendimiento acadé- mico, sí se puede concluir que la práctica de actividad física mejora principalmente el autoconcepto y el rendimiento académico. ABSTRACT: his research aims to study the relationship between the physical activity, self-concept and academic achievement ofparticipant’s basketball players in a women’s championship national category. his descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 75 students between 12 and 16 years old of subject using as main tools the questionnaire: AF-5, sociodemographic(it includes academic qualiications and physical activity). On one hand, the result showed that the sport promotes the academic self-concept and it improves the academic achievement. On the other hand, the family self-concept is clearly afected when the subject use too much time to do physical activities. However, the hours devoted to sport do not directly inluence academic achievement. herefore, the importance of physical activity to improve self-concept and academic achievement is demonstrated.

El presente estudio tuvo como objeto determinar y analizar las propiedades psicométricas de los instrumentos Autoconcepto Forma-5 (AF- 5) y CD-RISC así como describir y analizar las relaciones existentes entre ambas y especificar el efecto que tienen las horas de entrenamiento regular y la posición en baloncesto sobre las dimensiones psicosociales (autoconcepto y resiliencia), en jugadoras de baloncesto adolescentes españoles, considerando de manera simultánea variables personales y físico deportivas. Las participantes fueron 74 jugadoras cadetes, con edades comprendidas entre los 12 y 16 años, para el análisis estadística se llevó a cabo un análisis factorial exploratorio y análisis de regresión, donde se exploraba el efecto que tenían las horas de entrenamiento y posicionamiento, sobre las dimensiones de los cuestionarios Autoconcepto Forma-5 (AF-5) de García y Musitu (1999) y de la resiliencia (CD-RISC) de Connor y Davidson (2003). Los resultados, señalan que los cuestionarios CD RISC y AF-5 son aplicables a la población de jugadoras adolescentes de baloncesto, que estas presentan un desafío de la conducta orientada a la acción y autoconcepto familiar elevado en relación al resto de dimensiones. El posicionamiento en el terreno de juego no ejerce ninguna influencia en los aspectos psicosociales y el análisis de regresión establece que a mayor tiempo de entrenamiento se produce un incremento en el autoconcepto. The present study was to determine and analyze the psychometric properties of self-concept (AF-5) and resilience (CD-RISC). The aims of this study as to describe and analyze the relationships between them and specify the effect of hours of regular training and position in basketball on the psychosocial dimensions (self-concept and resilience) in Spanish adolescents basketball players, considering simultaneously personal and physical sports variables. Participants were 74 youth players, aged between 12 and 16 years. It conducted an exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis and the effect they had training hours, positioning, on the dimensions of the test Autoconcepto Form-5 (AF-5) García and Musitu (1999) and explores resilience (CD-RISC), Connor and Davidson (2003). The results indicate that the questionnaires CD-RISC and AF-5 are applicable to the population of youth basketball players. These are challenging the action-oriented behavior and familiar self-concept is high in relation to the other dimensions. Positioning in the field has no influence on the psychosocial aspects and the regression analysis establishes that longer training arean increase in self-concept.

El presente estudio fue realizar un análisis psicosocial del autoconcepto en adolescentes españoles, considerando de manera simultánea variables personales, familiares, académicas y físico-deportivas. Los participantes fueron 2.134 adolescentes de ambos sexos, procedentes de veinte centros educativos de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, con edades comprendidas entre los 15 y 18 años. Se llevó a cabo un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales que explica la varianza en un 63.12% y se explora el efecto que tenía la práctica de actividad física, sobre las dimensiones del Test de Autoconcepto Forma-5 (AF-5) de García y Musitu (1999). Los resultados, señalan que el modelo se ajusta correctamente, y que de todas las dimensiones la familiar es la que mayor peso presenta, y la práctica de actividad física no es causa del resto de variables de este modelo. This study was made to carry out a psychosocial analysis of self-concept in Spanish adolescents, simultaneously considering personal, physical, sports, family and academic variables. The participants were 2,134 adolescents of both genders, from twenty Secondary Schools, aged between 15 and 18 years old. A structural equation model was made that explained the variance at 63.12% and explored the effect that physical activity had using the dimensions of the Autoconcepto Forma-5 (AF-5) Test by García and Musitu (1999). The results show that the model was correctly adjusted and that, out of all the dimensions, family has the greatest weight and that the practice of physical activity is not a cause of other variables in the model. O presente estudo visou realizar uma análise psicossocial do autoconceito em adolescentes espanhóis, considerando simultaneamente variáveis pessoais, familiares académicas e físico-desportivas. Os participantes foram 2.134 adolescentes de ambos os sexos, precedentes de vinte centros educativas de Educação Secundária Obrigatória, com idades compreendidas entre os 15e os 18 anos. Foi realizado um modelo de equações estruturas que explica 63.12% da variância, explorando-se de igual modo o efeito que teria a prática de actividade física, sobre as dimensões do Teste de Autoconceito Forma- 5 (AF-5) de García e Musitu (1999). Os resultados, demonstram que o modelo se ajusta correctamente, e que de todas as dimensões, a familiar é a que maior peso apresenta, e a prática de actividade física não é causa das restantes variáveis deste modelo.

This research aims to analyse the psychometric properties of AF-5 questionnaire using exploratory and confirmatory techniques in university students of different religious tendencies, as well as to examine the relationship between self-concept and religious tendency (Christian, Muslim and atheist-agnostics). The sample consisted of 597 students (23.04 ± 3.72 years old), where 156 (26.1%) were men and 441 (73.9%) were women, using as main instruments the AF-5 questionnaire and a self-registration sheet for religious tendendy. Results showed that AF-% questionnaire offers reliability indexes greater than α = 0.7. In addition, factors are properly adjusted with the original model with five factors. Furthermore, the academic and emotional dimensions of self-concept displayed a greater strength in Christians, whereas social dimension was stronger in Muslims. - Abstract
The aim of this research is to adapt and analyze the psychometric properties of the AF-5 (Autoconcepto Forma 5) to a population of Spanish university students who play video games frequently. The employed techniques were an exploratory and confirmatory analysis. The sample consists of 490 participants with an age range between 20 and 29 years (M=22.8, SD=3.639), being 297 subjects women (60.6%) and 193 men (39.4%). Exploratory factor analysis was performed using Factor Analysis program and confirmatory factor analysis using M-PLUS 7. Results show that the questionnaire provides higher reliability indices than a=.70. The family factor was suppressed, as it did not reach reliability in the constructs of the dimension, so the confirmatory analysis was performed with a four-factor model. Thus, it was developed a confirmatory analysis with a factorial model of four options. Pearson correlation coefficient shows that almost all correlations between factors were significant (p<.01) and that the association between social and emotional dimension was the strongest. The objective of this research was to analyze the psychometric properties of the questionnaire AF-5 (García & Musitu, 1999) by exploratory techniques in a population of judokas of Chile. The sample consists of 148 judokas from 18 to 40 years, with 86 were men and the remaining 62 women. Exploratory factor analysis was performed using Factor Analysis program. The results indicate that the AF5 questionnaire provides higher reliability indexes α = 0.7. Referring to factorialidad exploratory analysis does not conform to the original fivefactor model eliminating the family factor. By applying the Pearson correlation coefficient, it shows that almost all significant correlation factors present in 99% (p < 0.01), the highest value established to relate the emotional dimension with the physical dimension (0.521). The present study was to determine and analyze the psychometric properties of self-concept (AF-5) and resilience (CD-RISC). The aims of this study as to describe and analyze the relationships between them and specify the effect of hours of regular training and position in basketball on the psychosocial dimensions (self-concept and resilience) in Spanish adolescents basketball players, considering simultaneously personal and physical sports variables. Participants were 74 youth players, aged between 12 and 16 years. It conducted an exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis and the effect they had training hours, positioning, on the dimensions of the test Autoconcepto Form-5 (AF-5) García and Musitu (1999) and explores resilience (CD-RISC), Connor and Davidson (2003). The results indicate that the questionnaires CD-RISC and AF-5 are applicable to the population of youth basketball players. These are challenging the action-oriented behavior and familiar self-concept is high in relation to the other dimensions. Positioning in the field has no influence on the psychosocial aspects and the regression analysis establishes that longer training arean increase in self-concept. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the study was to determine and analyze the relationships between motivational climate, physical self-concept and resilience, based on gender. 148 judokas participated with a mean age of 23.09 years (SD = 6.731) of Chile. Completed questionnaires motivational climate (PMCSQ-2), physical self (AF-5) and resilience (CD-RISC). For statistical analysis, structural equations were used, performed by multigroup (male and female). The results indicated acceptable goodness of fit of the model, it was determined that the correlation between climate and ego climate task is higher in women, they consider that when the motivational climate increases increases its own physical self and generated an increase in feelings satisfaction to the task and that men increased physical self causes higher levels of resilience than in women. - Abstract
The present research sheds light on the importance of physical activity with regards to self-concept in Spanish adolescents and considers physical exercise, family and academic variables. An explanatory and relational study was conducted. A total of 2,134 teenagers aged between 15 and 18 years old participated in the study. A descriptive and relational analysis by means of the ANOVA Test was also undertaken. The results obtained are discussed here taking into account the relevant specialised literature. It was found that two thirds of the students sampled did exercise regularly, team sports being the most popular. These learners presented a high degree of self-concept, particularly for the social and family dimensions. It can also be concluded from this study that better physical condition and appearance are related to sport engagement, and that physical activity is related to improved selfimage and to fostering social and family relationships. 22. Analysis of Self-Concept in Adolescents before and during COVID-19 Lockdown: Differences by Gender and Sports Activity.

An appeal has been issued to the scientific community to investigate physical, mental and emotional states, and pro-social behaviours during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, this study aims to investigate adolescents' self-concept before and during a lockdown period in relation to gender and type/amount of physical activity or sports. The pre-lockdown sample of 366 adolescents were aged 13–17 years (M = 15.51 ± 0.65), of whom 192 (52.5%) were females and 174 (47.5%) were males. During the lockdown, the age range of the sample was 13–17 years (M = 14.57 ± 1.47), of whom 82 (60.3%) were females, and 54 (39.7%) were males. The Form-5 Self-concept Questionnaire (AF-5) was used to measure adolescents' self-concept. There was a reduction in adolescents' overall self-concept during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was positively associated with emotional well-being, with family and peers being essential factors in the development of an appropriate self-concept. Furthermore, girls' self-concept, especially academic self-concept, was higher than that of boys during the lockdown. However, both physical and emotional self-concept were higher for boys than girls before the COVID-19 lockdown, although no differences were found during the lockdown. The COVID-19 lockdown has negatively affected individuals' welfare. However, there has been no research published heretofore about the levels of self-concept (SC) in adolescents, nor how having practised martial arts (MA) or any physical activity (PA) before the lockdown may have influenced the SC in that time. Hence, this study aimed to analyze some demographic, physical, and psychosocial parameters in Spanish adolescents throughout the COVID-19 quarantine through a cross-sectional investigation, establishing correlations among these factors. Methods: The present study had a descriptive, comparative, and cross-sectional design. The sample comprised of 54 (39.7%) male and 82 (60.3%) female Spanish adolescents aged 12–18 (M = 14.49; SD = 1.80). An ad-hoc questionnaire collected sociodemographic data; the self-concept Form 5 (AF5) questionnaire obtained data on SC dimensions. Results: There were some differences among the SC dimensions, with family and academic dimensions having higher values than the physical and emotional ones. Females' academic SC was higher than that of males (p = 0.019). The practice of PA before the lockdown was positively associated with physical (p < 0.001) and social (p = 0.012) SC, yet there was no significant association between the previous practice of MA and SC (p > 0.050). Conclusions: the findings suggest that the COVID-19 lockdown negatively affected Spanish adolescents by decreasing their total SC and some dimensions of it, although PA may buffer psychological harmfulness in adolescents. Background: At present, new technologies provide numerous benefits in their correct use, while the need arises to study the consumption of some technologies, in this case, videogames, due to the negative consequences that they can cause in those subjects who have not yet consolidated their personality due to their excessive use. The study aimed to determine and establish associations between the dimensions of self-concept and the problematic use of videogames and their gender differences. Methods: A total of 525 university students participated in this study, representing 44.7% of the male gender and 55.3% of the female gender, with an average age of M = 20.80 SD = 3.12 years old. The instruments used were the CESR and AF-5 questionnaires. Results: The results reveal the association (p ≤ 0.05) between the problematic use of videogames and the dimensions of self-concept, showing that students with severe or potential problems have lower levels of self-concept. In addition, it has been found that men have more problems associated with the use of video games than women. Men have a greater physical and emotional self-concept, while women have better social self-concept. Conclusions: This study highlights the inverse association between self-concept and problematic use of video games, a fact that shows the need to develop intervention programs aimed at improving self-concept and to reduce the problematic use of video games. Likewise, the levels of self-concept reveal that men have higher scores in the emotional and physical dimension, while women stand out in the social dimension. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

25. Motivational Climate towards the Practice of Physical Activity, Self-Concept, and Healthy Factors in the School Environment.

The objective of the present study was to define and contrast an explanatory model relating the motivational climate, body mass index, and adherence to a Mediterranean diet with the self-concept of school children. A further objective was to analyze the existing relationships between the variables included in the developed model according to sex, using a multi-group structural equation analysis. In the study, a total of 734 school children, of both sexes, reported their perceived motivational climate towards sport, body mass index, adherence to a Mediterranean diet, and self-concept. These children were aged between 10 and 12 years old and attended public school in the province of Granada (Spain). The multi-group structural equation model developed demonstrated an excellent fit to the empirical data (χ2 = 228.179; DF = 40; p < 0.001; CFI = 0.965; NFI = 0.958; IFI = 0.968; RMSEA = 0.048). The findings identified a direct negative relationship between the ego climate and the task climate. Furthermore, an inverse relationship was found between the task climate and body mass index, and a direct relationship was found between the ego climate and body mass index. Meanwhile, Mediterranean diet adherence was directly related to the task climate and negatively related to the ego climate. The main conclusions of the present study highlight the positive effects of a task-oriented motivational climate and adherence to a Mediterranean diet, with regards to body mass index. The creation of healthy habits and lifestyles is fundamental in the educational field and for acquiring adequate health levels that will prevail in adulthood. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics and correlations between the level of practice of physical activity, adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD), body mass index (BMI) and problematic use of videogames and self-concept of primary education students. This non-experimental, cross-sectional study is composed of a sample of 577 students aged 10-12 years (11.1 ± 0.638). Subjects were evaluated using the Mediterranean Diet Adherence questionnaire (KIDMED), Self-Concept Form-5 (AF-5), Experiences Related to Videogames (QERV) and anthropometric measurements were taken following the guidelines of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry. Most students have been found to be of normal weight, although one in five has problems with being overweight or experiencing obesity. Likewise, half of them need to improve their adherence to the Mediterranean diet, while they do not have a problematic use of videogames, although one tenth of them in these early ages offer severe problems and it is highlighted that students offer an adequate self-concept. It is also noted that BMI correlates positively with problematic videogame use and social self-concept. Greater addiction to videogames is associated with poorer academic performance, low levels of physical activity and poor adherence to the Mediterranean diet. (1) Background: The aim of this study was to assess adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD) and to examine the relationship between MD adherence, physical activity, self-concept, and other sociodemographic factors; (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study (
N = 597; 18.99 ± 0.64 years) was conducted in a sample of university students from Ceuta, Melilla, and Granada (Spain). Religious beliefs and place of residence were directly reported, while physical activity and adherence to the MD were self-reported using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents (PAQ-A) and the Mediterranean Diet Quality Index (KIDMED) respectively. Self-concept was evaluated using the Five-Factor Self-Concept Scale; (3) Results: Of those students reporting high levels of habitual physical activity, 82.3% also reported high adherence to the MD, with 17.7% reporting a medium adherence. Of students reporting no physical activity, 25.7% also reported medium adherence to the MD. No significant associations were found between the MD and religious beliefs. It was observed that the university campus was associated with the level of adherence to the MD (p = 0.030), with adherence being lowest in Ceuta and Melilla. Finally, the MD was associated with academic (p = 0.001) and physical self-concept (p = 0.005); 4) Conclusions: The MD should be promoted to university students, particularly those studying at Ceuta and Melilla, given the present findings of lower MD adherence. La adolescencia es un periodo clave en el desarrollo del ser humano debido al gran número de cambios que se producen a nivel físico, psíquico y personal, originándose el desarrollo y afianzamiento de la personalidad en los jóvenes. En el ámbito universitario, los estudiantes se encuentran en la adultez temprana, la cual abarca las edades comprendidas entre los veinte y treinta años considerándose dicha etapa como una extensión de la adolescencia tardía. Esta fase se caracteriza por las dificultades que se presentan para llevar a cabo el abandono del domicilio familiar, consecuencia que origina un retraso en la aparición de comportamientos adultos. Debido a la problemática planteada anteriormente, se precisa la necesidad de llevar a cabo un estudio de los aspectos académicos, saludables, psicosociales y físico-deportivos en la población adolescente y adulta. Durante la adolescencia, la motivación juega un papel fundamental para delimitar la intensidad y dirección de distintos comportamientos hacia determinadas tareas. Los comportamientos motivacionales se hallan influenciados por distintos aspectos de origen cognitivo, emocional y biológico los cuales interaccionan entre sí actuando de una forma directa en el resultado final de la acción realizada. Dentro del ámbito de la psicología del deporte, el concepto de clima motivacional se aborda como una serie de señales explícitas e implícitas que se perciben del contexto que determinan el éxito o fracaso de una actividad. En función del contexto en el que se sitúe la persona, existirán dos climas motivacionales. El primero de ellos es el Clima motivacional orientado hacia la tarea o maestría, donde adquieren una mayor relevancia factores de carácter intrínseco como es la satisfacción personal a la hora de ejecutar una tarea. Por el contrario, el Clima motivacional orientado hacia el Ego o rendimiento prioriza valores de origen extrínseco como es el reconocimiento social. Si desde edades tempranas no se lleva a cabo una correcta educación en el aula de educación física sobre la motivación adecuada a la hora de orientar la práctica físicodeportiva, puede originar un incremento en los niveles de ansiedad. La ansiedad se define como un estado de nerviosismo difícil de controlar donde se asocian síntomas como la irritabilidad y la dificultad para mantener la concentración. A mediados de la década de los cincuenta del siglo pasado, la ansiedad comenzó a ser evaluada como un rasgo propio de la personalidad de cada persona, influyendo factores de origen biológico al igual que experiencias previas vividas por el sujeto. Una inadecuada formación emocional puede originar una respuesta improcedente ante elevados niveles de ansiedad, pudiendo originar unas consecuencias irreparables a nivel académico o personal. Para disminuir los niveles de dicho estado disruptivo, la práctica regular de ejercicio físico se considera un elemento fundamental, ya que a través de la segregación de neurotransmisores se consiguen paliar los efectos generados por dicho estado. Uno de los motivos principales que fomentan los niveles de ansiedad de los jóvenes y por el cual los adolescentes llevan a cabo tareas de origen físico-deportivo es la imagen corporal y el estado físico de los mismos. En este caso el autoconcepto físico es una de las áreas que mayor relevancia se le otorga durante la juventud y adolescencia, sin embargo, desde una perspectiva multidimensional, el autoconcepto se halla formado por distintas áreas que van a influir en la vida y en el desarrollo del adolescente como pueden ser la adquisición de determinados hábitos de vida. Asimismo, si durante la juventud y la adolescencia no se han establecido comportamientos saludables, el ámbito cognitivo, social y físico pueden verse afectados de una forma negativa. La importancia de seguir un patrón dietético saludable presenta la finalidad de proteger la salud a través de la ingesta de alimentos saludables. Los jóvenes han de ser conscientes de los beneficios de la adherencia positiva hacia la dieta mediterránea con el fin de aumentar su esperanza de vida, disminuir las posibilidades de padecer enfermedades de origen cardiovascular así como diabetes. Atendiendo a lo planteado anteriormente, el presente estudio de tesis muestra el objetivo general de estudiar los niveles y la relación del clima motivacional, ansiedad, autoconcepto físico, actividad física y adherencia a la dieta mediterránea en jóvenes adultos y adolescentes. Asimismo, los objetivos específicos que la presente investigación muestra son los siguientes: Investigación I: Analizar los efectos de la motivación orientada hacia el deporte sobre la práctica de actividad física, la ansiedad y el autoconcepto. Investigación II: Estudiar las relaciones existentes entre el clima motivacional, práctica de actividad física y adherencia a la dieta mediterránea en docentes de educación física en formación. Investigación III: Determinar los niveles de autoconcepto físico, clima motivacional y ansiedad en función del grado de adherencia a la dieta mediterránea. Investigación IV: Identificar y establecer la relación entre la motivación deportiva, la ansiedad el autoconcepto físico y el autoconcepto social según el género de los participantes a través de un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales multigrupo. Investigación V: Desarrollar y contrastar un modelo explicativo de la motivación deportiva, ansiedad y adherencia a la dieta mediterránea en función del sexo declarado. Investigación VI: Elaborar y comparar un modelo explicativo del clima motivacional y su relación con la ansiedad y el autoconcepto físico mediante un análisis multigrupo en función del tiempo de actividad física semanal. Investigación VII: Desarrollar y probar un modelo explicativo de la inteligencia emocional y su relación con la adherencia a la dieta mediterránea, el IMC y la edad en función del tiempo de actividad física semanal. Investigación VIII: Crear y evaluar un modelo explicativo del impacto de la atención, la claridad y la reparación emocional en la adherencia a la dieta mediterránea. Investigación IX: Estudiar a través de un modelo de ecuaciones multigrupo los niveles de consumo de alcohol, tabaco, cannabis, autoconcepto social y físico, y práctica de actividad física en función del sexo declarado de los participantes. Como principales conclusiones obtenidas del presente estudio de tesis se observa que la mayoría de las investigaciones realizadas muestran como el desarrollo de la motivación deportiva a partir de valores de carácter intrínseco y extrínseco puede ayudar a disminuir o aumentar los niveles de ansiedad. Asimismo, se ha evidenciado que cuando la práctica de actividad física se origina a partir de motivaciones de carácter extrínseco fomenta el abandono de la práctica físico-deportiva. Respecto a los modelos de ecuaciones planteados en función del sexo se concluye que la asociación entre el clima tarea y el clima ego adquiere una mayor relación negativa para el sexo femenino. En cuanto a la incidencia de la motivación en la ansiedad, ambos sexos obtienen relaciones positivas hacia el clima ego, sin embargo, el masculino mostró puntuaciones superiores al femenino. También se obtiene que para la población femenina existe una relación negativa hacia la adherencia a un patrón dietético saludable, independientemente de la motivación desarrollada hacia la actividad física. Por el contrario, la población masculina muestra una relación de carácter negativo cuando la práctica deportiva se orienta hacia el clima ego. Atendiendo al modelo planteado para el tiempo de actividad física semanal se observa que Los participantes que practican menos de 150 minutos de actividad semanal, muestran relaciones negativas entre clima ego y autoconcepto físico, ansiedad y clima de tarea, ansiedad y autoconcepto físico. Por otro lado, se muestran relaciones positivas entre clima tarea y el autoconcepto físico y la ansiedad y el clima ego. Los participantes que practican entre 150 y 300 minutos, obtienen relaciones negativas entre el clima tarea y la ansiedad, ansiedad y autoconcepto físico, sin embargo, se muestran relaciones positivas entre ansiedad y clima ego, autoconcepto físico y clima tarea y autoconcepto físico y clima ego. El modelo planteado en función del grado de adherencia a la dieta mediterránea evidencia que la relación entre la ansiedad y el clima de tarea, para los participantes que muestran una adherencia baja y media a la dieta mediterránea, se obtiene una relación negativa, mientras que para los participantes que muestran una adherencia alta, se obtiene una relación positiva. Atendiendo a la relación entre la ansiedad y el clima ego se obtiene una relación positiva para los tres niveles de adherencia a la dieta mediterránea. Para la relación entre el autoconcepto físico y la ansiedad, se obtuvieron relaciones negativas para los tres niveles de adherencia a la dieta mediterránea. Finalmente, bajo una perspectiva educativa, el presente estudio ofrece una visión actual de variables físico-saludables y psicosociales en futuros docentes de educación física, los cuales serán los encargados de transmitir una motivación adecuada hacia estilos de vida activos y saludables., Adolescence is a key period in the development of the human being due to the large number of changes that take place on a physical, psychological and personal level, giving rise to the development and strengthening of the personality of young people. At the university level, students are in early adulthood, which is between the ages of twenty and thirty and it is considered an extension of late adolescence. This phase is characterised by difficulties in leaving the family home, a consequence of which is a delay in the emergence of adult behaviours. Due to the problems raised above, it is necessary to carry out a study of the academic, health, psychosocial and physical-sports aspects in the adolescent and adult population. During adolescence, motivation plays a fundamental role in determining the intensity and direction of different behaviours towards certain tasks. Motivational behaviours are influenced by different aspects of cognitive, emotional and biological origin which interact with each other, acting directly on the final result of the action performed. Within the field of sport psychology, the concept of motivational climate is approached as a series of explicit and implicit signals perceived from the context that determine the success or failure of an activity. Depending on the context in which the person is situated, there will be two motivational climates. The first of these is the task- or mastery-oriented motivational climate, where factors of an intrinsic nature such as personal satisfaction when performing a task are more relevant. In contrast, the Ego- or performance-oriented motivational climate prioritises values of extrinsic origin such as social recognition. If from an early age there is not a correct education in the physical education classroom on the appropriate motivation when it comes to guiding physical-sports practice, it can lead to an increase in anxiety levels. Anxiety is defined as a state of nervousness that is difficult to control and is associated with symptoms such as irritability and difficulty in maintaining concentration. In the mid-1950s, anxiety began to be evaluated as a personality trait of each person, influenced by biological factors as well as previous experiences. Inadequate emotional training can lead to an inappropriate response to high levels of anxiety, which can have irreparable consequences at an academic or personal level. In order to reduce the levels of this disruptive state, regular physical exercise is considered a fundamental element, as the effects generated by this state are alleviated through the secretion of neurotransmitters. One of the main reasons for young people's anxiety levels and why adolescents carry out physical-sporting tasks is their body image and physical fitness. In this case, physical selfconcept is one of the areas that is most relevant during youth and adolescence; however, from a multidimensional perspective, self-concept is made up of different areas that will influence the life and development of the adolescent, such as the acquisition of certain life habits. Also, if healthy behaviours have not been established during youth and adolescence, cognitive, social and physical domains can be negatively affected. The importance of following a healthy dietary pattern in order to protect health through the intake of healthy foods. Young people need to be aware of the benefits of positive adherence to the Mediterranean diet in order to increase their life expectancy, decrease cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. In view of the above, this thesis study has the general objective of studying the levels and relationship between motivational climate, anxiety, physical self-concept, physical activity and adherence to the Mediterranean diet in young adults and adolescents. In addition, the specific objectives of this research are as follows: Research I: To analyse the effects of sport-oriented motivation on physical activity, anxiety and self-concept. Research II: To study the relationships between motivational climate, physical activity practice and adherence to the Mediterranean diet in trainee physical education teachers. Research III: To determine the levels of physical self-concept, motivational climate and anxiety as a function of the degree of adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Research IV: To identify and establish the relationship between sport motivation, anxiety, physical self-concept and social self-concept according to the gender of the participants through a multi-group structural equation model. Research V: To develop and contrast an explanatory model of sport motivation, anxiety and adherence to the Mediterranean diet as a function of gender. Research VI: To develop and compare an explanatory model of the motivational climate and its relationship with anxiety and physical self-concept through a multi-group analysis according to weekly physical activity time. Research VII: To develop and test an explanatory model of emotional intelligence and its relationship with adherence to the Mediterranean diet, body mass index and age as a function of weekly physical activity time. Research VIII: To create and evaluate an explanatory model of the impact of mindfulness, clarity and emotional repair on adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Research IX: To study through a multigroup equation model the levels of alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, social and physical self-concept, and physical activity practice as a function of the declared sex of the participants. As main conclusions, it is observed that most of the scientific research carried out shows how the development of sport motivation based on intrinsic and extrinsic values can help to reduce or increase anxiety levels, highlighting that the orientation towards the ego climate plays a key role in the abandonment of physical activity due to frustration and the worsening of the mental image generated. It is also observed that orientation towards any motivational climate is positively associated with the practice of physical exercise, however, disposition towards ego-climate reports a stronger positive association with adherence to the Mediterranean diet. With respect to the equation models based on gender, it is concluded that the association between task climate and ego climate has a greater negative relationship for the female gender. As for the impact of motivation on anxiety, both sexes obtained positive relationships towards ego-climate, however, males showed higher scores than females. It is also found that for the female population there is a negative relationship towards adherence to a healthy dietary pattern, irrespective of the motivation developed towards physical activity. On the contrary, the male population shows a negative relationship when sport practice is oriented towards the ego-climate. The model for weekly physical activity time shows that participants who do less than 150 minutes of weekly activity show negative relationships between ego-climate and physical self-concept, anxiety and task climate, anxiety and physical self-concept. On the other hand, positive relationships are shown between task climate and physical self-concept and anxiety and ego climate. Participants practising between 150 and 300 minutes obtained negative relationships between task climate and anxiety, anxiety and physical self-concept, however, positive relationships were shown between anxiety and ego climate, physical selfconcept and task climate and physical self-concept and ego climate. The model based on the degree of adherence to the Mediterranean diet shows that the relationship between anxiety and task climate is negative for participants with low and medium adherence to the Mediterranean diet, while a positive relationship is obtained for participants with high adherence. Looking at the relationship between anxiety and egoclimate, a positive relationship is obtained for all three levels of adherence to the Mediterranean diet. For the relationship between physical self-concept and anxiety, negative relationships were obtained for all three levels of adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Therefore, from an educational perspective, the present study offers a current view of physical-health and psychosocial variables in future physical education teachers, who will be in charge of transmitting an adequate motivation towards active and healthy lifestyles., Tesis Univ.
