This document is a guest editorial from the Teaching Artist Journal. The authors originally sought submissions exploring how teaching artists can develop artistry in individuals and communities outside of traditional classrooms. However, the predominant themes that emerged were anxiety, isolation, and underserved communities. The articles in this issue offer concrete ways to address these needs, such as arts-based assessment for English learners in Japan, community-building activities for primary caregivers, and strategies for grounding teaching artists in purpose. The author believes that arts-based practices will be crucial for recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. [Extracted from the article]
