Relatives of patients with depression represent a care group that have been largely neglected. Evidence has shown that they experience high levels of stress, whilst being at an increased risk of developing depression themselves. Psychoeducational support services for relatives can reduce stress. This article highlights the current situation that relatives experience, and provides opportunities to convey quick help to target persons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
On 19 February 2019 the severance of a 110kW cable caused an extensive electrical power cut in the Treptow-Köpenick district of Berlin. Subsequently, ca. 30,000 households were without electricity and ca. 70,000 people were affected. The power cut lasted more than 24h and all those involved were faced with a multitude of challenges. An operational command post was set up in which medical problems had to be continuously identified and re-evaluated. These included the identification of patients particularly at risk, such as home-ventilated patients and patients with artificial hearts. Furthermore, individual nursing homes had to be evacuated. During the procedure it was necessary to evacuate an intensive care ward or intermediate care ward with 23 patients due to the loss of power supply in the affected area. Hospitals must be prepared for such scenarios within the framework of preliminary planning. Furthermore, preliminary planning containing the special needs of vulnerable groups must be carried out on the part of the responsible authorities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background: Severe mental illnesses are often associated with substantial impairments of psychosocial functioning and a high risk of social exclusion. Along with somatic and psychotherapeutic treatment approaches, psychosocial interventions are an integral component of treatment. Psychosocial therapies aim to improve participation and enable patients to live self-determined lives as far as possible. Objective: This paper provides an overview of the structure and recommendations of the German S3 guidelines "Psychosocial therapies for severe mental illnesses" of the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN). Material and methods: In the DGPPN S3 guidelines psychosocial therapies are systematically described for the first time and recommendations are formulated on the basis of a systematic processing of scientific evidence and a formalized consensus process. Results: The evidence-based and consensus-based guidelines formulate a total of 33 recommendations and 12 statements. For many psychosocial interventions there is a broad evidence base. In the field of individual interventions psychoeducation, social skills training and health-promoting interventions have been given the highest recommendation strength (A). In the field of system level interventions, team-based, multiprofessional community psychiatric approaches, supported employment and self-determined housing with mobile support (supported housing) are given A level recommendations. For other interventions, the current evidence base is less robust. Conclusion: The successful implementation of guidelines depends not only on the quality but also on the dissemination. Therefore, in addition to the treatment guidelines a short version, a patient version and a waiting room version were developed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article deals with a form of political action in which feminists crossed a line in protest against the ban on abortions in the FRG. These collective bus rides to the Netherlands are analyzed as a transnational political action for (ambiguous) freedom and a four-dimensional Direct embodied action in the sense of the self-help doctrine of anarchy - in other words, without involving the State. Instead, this was a female-led campaign of an empowered community which in 1975 began to use solidarity, collectivity, and publicity to enforce the right to self-determination. The form of this action makes the goal visible (concreteness) and that goal was directly achieved when the abortions were carried out (implementation). The form of action was self-empowerment and it created new self-organized scope for action; it also contributed to overcoming fear and shame and delegitimized the law. After some self-critical reflection, this form of action was abandoned in 1977. The discussion concludes by arguing that feminist reflection and solidarity, that is aspects borrowed from this form of action, should be added to the 11 established principles of feminist resistance.

In an increasingly hostile environment for refugees in the UK and the “everyday bordering” that creates exclusionary effects for refugees and migrants, this article examines how refugee women of diverse backgrounds enact resistance practices through volunteering to challenge everyday microaggressions and social exclusion. We draw on in‐depth qualitative research with members of a support group for refugee women established by a local charity in England. We find that the support group not only allows the refugee women to foster a strong sense of solidarity in the face of everyday microaggressions; it also facilitates the women’s volunteering activities in the local community. Applying the concept of “differentiated embedding,” we argue that such activities enable these women to build wider social connections and skills for future employment and, crucially, develop emotional and linguistic resources to critique dominant exclusionary discourses and policies towards refugees through the idea of “contribution” and “giving back.” In so doing, we contribute to renewed interest in the concept of integration to highlight the agency of refugee women in creating differentiated embedding in a hostile environment.

15. Internetbasierte Therapie in der Versorgung von Patienten mit depressiven Störungen: Ein Überblick.

- Abstract
Internet and mobile interventions have the potential to transform depression care. This assumption is supported by a rapidly growing number of randomized controlled trials that evaluate the efficacy of mostly CBT-based self-help programs for the treatment of depressive symptoms under experimental conditions. However, fewer research has focused on the use of internet-based interventions in the treatment of clinical depression in real-life settings of depression care, ranging from prevention to primary and secondary care, and to inpatient treatment. Thus, it remains unclear if the current evidence translates to clinical settings. The present paper discusses studies on internet-based interventions that have been conducted under these conditions of care. The focus is on studies that have been conducted in clinical populations of patients formally diagnosed with a major depression. In conclusion, the review indicates that in many of these areas the current research lacks clear evidence for the effectiveness of internet-based interventions yet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main aim of this paper is to present the impact which the Government Program for Social Participation of Senior Citizens (in Polish: Rządowy Program na rzecz Aktywności Społecznej Osób Starszych; ASOS) for the years 2014-2020 had on the social activation of the elderly in Poland, based on a case study of one project. The first part of the article presents a justification for research concerning the activation of the elderly in Poland. Next, the paper discusses the main objective of ASOS, as well as its significance as the first national-level public intervention for social activation of the elderly in Poland. Then, the effects of ASOS on the social activation of the elderly are analyzed. The analysis is based on a qualitative approach to impact evaluation of the Active Regardless of Age project, which was co-financed by ASOS. Finally, the authors identify a list of various types of outcomes achieved by the project which apply to social activation of the elderly. Moreover, the issue of generalizing the project findings for the entire ASOS is discussed. Finally, the paper presents research results of the Innovative Social Investment: Strengthening Communities in Europe (InnoSI) project funded under the Horizon 2020 Program. Tekst opracowania powstał na podstawie wyników badań uzyskanych w ramach projektu Innovative Social Investment Strenghtening Communities in Europe (InnoSI), współfinansowanego w ramach programu badawczego Horyzont 2020.

The GDR conceived the social rehabilitation of people with physical impairments as the responsibility of the welfare state. While their integration into the world of work has been comparatively well researched, many questions remain unanswered with regard to housing and mobility. What measures did the state take to support physically impaired people in these areas? What role did district physicians and city architects play in this? What practical results were achieved? From the mid-1970s onwards, there were clear efforts by the state to provide assistance and implement construction measures that would enable the individuals concerned to participate in society. However, limited resources and the centrally planned economy of the SED state made this difficult. In addition, the removal of material obstacles could also create new barriers, such as in pedestrian zones. The individuals concerned therefore developed their own, quite effective initiatives. Drawing on case studies from Karl-Marx-Stadt, Halle an der Saale and Greifswald, the article provides insight into the everyday life of people with disabilities, characterised as it was by ambivalences, agency, and the restrictions imposed by state authorities.

Problem: Working conditions nowadays have changed drastically in the last few years. The pressure in the work environment, the increasing availability outside the regular working hours and the work-life balance is getting unbalanced. The syndrome “burnout” has spread and became a trend. Since it is not an officially recognized disease, there is no uniform definition or diagnosis. Burnout occurs when a connection between complaints and occupational stress is established. Due to the gradual progression and the frequent tabooing of the disease, it is difficult to reach those who are affected at an early stage and to help them even with initial symptoms.Method: A structured literature search was performed in the databases Pub Med, Science Direct and Springer Link and in the library holdings of FH JOANNEUM. German and English search terms were combined. In addition, evidence-based web sources such as Statistik Austria, Statista or WKO, as well as web sources for information on treatment offers were consulted. Results: Due to the lack of a clear definition, many different models and theories exist on the development and course of the disease. There are a variety of physical and psychological effects of burnout. However, the disorder might be misdiagnosed as adjustment disorder, stress reaction, or depression. Nevertheless, there are some offers for therapy and rehabilitation, which mostly apply a multimodal concept. Follow-up treatment in the form of psychotherapeutic care or coaching is essential for long-lasting success, as well as for social reintegration after recovery. Part-time reintegration is an exemplary model for returning to work.Discussion: Viewing burnout as a purely work-related illness that does not extend into other areas of life is one-sided. In professional circles, there is little talk about the fact that people do not want to or cannot return to the same job after recovery. Therefore, reintegration into the same profession is not possible in every case. eingereicht von: Anna-Maria Wedenig Abweichender Titel laut Übersetzung der Verfasserin/des Verfassers Bachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 2022

Objective: The aim of the current study was to identify outcomes of a self-practice/self-reflection (SP/SR) exercise for trainee clinical psychologists.Method: Thirty-two trainees enrolled in their first year of a UK university doctoral clinical psychology training programme completed an online questionnaire following an eight-week exercise. Results: Findings indicated an endorsement of many previously reported benefits of exercise participation, but also the identification of negative outcomes. Thematic analysis of qualitative data revealed that outcomes could be grouped into two main thematic domains (individual task outcomes and task organization issues) along with several subordinate themes. Conclusion: SP/SR is a useful tool in the development of trainee CBT therapist competences. There has been limited previous recognition of potential negative outcomes from this type of exercise. However, these can provide additional impetus for therapist skill development. Cooperatives societies are seen as dependable and quick financial bailout institutions which can be used by business owners to secure quick and minimum interest on loans. This ethnographic study provides an understanding of the lending activities and criteria of obtaining a loan from co-operative societies in Ibadan, Nigeria as well as the social factors influencing how people access these loans. This empirical study gathered data using unobtrusive observation by attending weekly meetings of the cooperative (comprising of 102 members), asking questions during discussion times in the meeting as well as interacting with members of the co-operative society for 18 months. Additionally, 10 key informant interviews were done. Findings show that a strong social capital is needed and vital in obtaining loans in a co-operative society. The study concluded that cooperative societies are effective in lending business loans and supporting entrepreneurship but intending members must plan to join alongside others who can stand as guarantors for them in order to access loans easily and quickly. It is recommended that cooperative societies should find a modality of assisting those with no social resource to stand for them as guarantor in order to be able to help more people to start or grow their business enterprise. Those with no social resources should mingle well with other members in order to build one.

The COVID-19 pandemic added a new layer of consequences to a care crisis that was already harsh in "post-socialist" Serbia. This paper examines the failures of the care infrastructure in Serbia during the pandemic and the resulting intensification of temporary networks of care. We look at housing as a key care infrastructure in the pandemic and discuss how care thrives across the urban space. To conceptualise how housing is sustained as a care infrastructure in the post-Yugoslav context, we introduce the notion of infra-commoning. We discuss how infra-commoning generates dynamic social and economic reproduction patterns that are the foundation of social organisation. Finally, we analyse anti-eviction struggles as an infracommoning practice and explain how collective efforts of solidarity, mutual aid, and self-care are thwarted and rendered legally impossible.

This paper deals with self-help groups and accompanied affected groups. The aim is to work out which opportunities can be provided for addressees of social work in the course of cooperation in self-help groups and affected groups, and furthermore to highlight the role of social work in this context, its spheres of action and how they are structured. The participation in self-help and affected groups holds opportunities for both individual development and social change. An orientation of social work towards affected groups in the sense of the concept of blended help can facilitate access to self-help groups for people seeking help and, at the same time, promote communality and self-determination.

Tinnitus is a complex and heterogeneous psycho-physiological disorder responsible for causing a phantom ringing or buzzing sound albeit the absence of an external sound source. It has a direct influence on affecting the quality of life of its sufferers. Despite being around for a while, there has not been a cure for tinnitus, and the usual course of action for its treatment involves use of tinnitus retaining and sound therapy, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). One positive aspect about these therapies is that they can be administered face-to-face as well as delivered via internet or smartphone. Smartphones are especially helpful as they are highly personalized devices, and offer a well-established ecosystem of apps, accessible via respective marketplaces of differing mobile platforms. Note that current therapeutic treatments such as CBT have shown to be effective in suppressing the tinnitus symptoms when administered face-to-face, their effectiveness when being delivered using smartphones is not known so far. A quick search on the prominent market places of popular mobile platforms (Android and iOS) yielded roughly 250 smartphone apps offering tinnitus-related therapies and tinnitus management. As this number is expected to steadily increase due to high interest in smartphone app development, a contemporary review of such apps is crucial. In this paper, we aim to review scientific studies validating the smartphone apps, particularly to test their effectiveness in tinnitus management and treatment. We use the PRISMA guidelines for identification of studies on major scientific literature sources and delineate the outcomes of identified studies., publishedVersion

Late Munich sociologist Ulrich Beck (1944-2015) engaged in numerous public debates, among others on civil society. He considered it a "reform idea", a tool of democratization, even of "creative disobedience". Like many other academicians, he encountered difficulties though to properly define the term. At one point he compared civil society to a "pudding nailed to the wall". This distinctive image expressed his and others uneasiness with the inflationary usage of civil society and a sense of vagueness. This perception has not changed very much in recent years, especially in the general public. Therefore, more enlightenment, best practice and hands-on examples as well as in-depth perspectives on civil society and its modes of operation seem to be the command of the hour. This shall be undertaken and presented in this dossier within the field of self-organization, self-help and peer counseling, along the lines and frontiers of voluntary and professional engagement. One of the focuses is anxiety self-help and how it has evolved in a tandem partnership of lay experts and academic experts to a resourceful and valuable player in the realm of civil society. In view of the current corona uncertainties regarding our future in health-related aspects and, in general, post-corona societal modeling this type of twinning may become a shaping force and help civil society to win much more visibility and profile.

BIPOLAR disorder , *THERAPEUTICS , *DIAGNOSIS of bipolar disorder , *MENTAL illness , *DECISION making , *MEDICAL care - Abstract
Bipolar disorders are severe psychiatric disorders with extensive individual and health economic consequences. Starting in 2007 the first German evidence and consensus based guideline for diagnostics and treatment of bipolar disorders was developed which holds the potential of increasing confidence of therapists, patients and relatives in the decision-making process and improving healthcare service experiences of patients and relatives. Apart from recommendations for diagnostics and treatment the guidelines provide those for trialogue action, knowledge transfer and self-help and for strategies for healthcare provision of this complex disorder. In the present article the methodology and essential recommendations are outlined and complemented in specific topics by corresponding articles in this special issue. Due to restrictions of the length of this presentation there is the need to refer to the comprehensive version of the guidelines at several points also regarding a detailed discussion of the limitations.
