This article provides an overview of the challenges faced by the social work profession and social services sector in New Zealand. It discusses issues such as cuts to services, job losses, and attacks on support services for disabled individuals. The article also criticizes the behavior and lack of empathy displayed by the coalition government. Additionally, the text covers various topics related to social work in New Zealand, including environmental justice, rural poverty, palliative care, and the impact of digital technology on social connectedness for older Chinese migrants during the Covid-19 pandemic. It also includes a study on older migrants and their social connections, highlighting the need for support in digital and English literacy. The contributions of Adjunct Professor Ken Daniels to social work education and his involvement in health social work and assisted human reproduction are discussed.
