Health strategies, programs and activities have historically been the result of institutional practices with a limited participatory component. Traditionally, institutional action is mainly determined by the criteria of the political actors and, in the best of cases, by the criteria of healthcare professionals. New forms of governance for health equity advocate for the inclusion of the community in the design of strategies, programmes and activities in health. For this reason, a growing concern in the field of participation in health is the measurement of the participatory quality of new designs of institutional practices. This article aims to develop an operational proposal to design, measure or describe the scope in participatory terms of the health planning processes. Objective: To explore the perspectives of the decision makers and community members in primary health care (PHC) around the conceptualization of social participation (PS)., Design: An exploratory cross-sectional study with qualitative methodology., Location: Health Centers of the Metropolitan Region (RM), Santiago, Chile., Participants: Eight informants from the management level (group 1), 13 from execution level in PHC (group 2), 28 community members and four community agents of health (group 3)., Method: Interviews and discussion groups were conducted, which were recorded and transcribed. The organization and analysis of the data was done with Atlas.ti 8.1. The narratives were systematized using a thematic analysis. All the documents were codified, and we hold periodic meetings to review the existing codes, as well as discussing the inclusion of new codes., Results: Group 1 refers to a more theoretical conception of PS. Group 2 expresses more concrete and operative dimensions. Group 3 indicates that PS is embodied in particular personal experiences. Objective: To determine the impact that intersectoral policies and social participation, implemented worldwide, have had on the modification of the social determinants for health and on the reduction of social health inequities., Method: A scoping review of the literature published in the period 2005-2015 was performed. The literature search was conducted on PubMed and Scielo databases. Two researchers reviewed each document. Data were analysed according to the intersectoral action and social participation variables and according to the theoretical frameworks of the Social Determinants Model of the Commission on Social Determinants of Health (CSDH) and the theoretical constructs of Social Capital (SC) and Life Course (LC)., Results: Out of 45 documents likely to be selected for final review, all of them based on title and abstract, 20 documents were eventually picked out and analysed; most them (n = 8) were conducted in all Latin America and Latin America's countries. Twelve documents reported intersectoral action associated with social participation in partnership with different institutions. Regarding theoretical frameworks, most of studies (n = 8) used CSDH and SC. In relation to health outcomes, the studies showed mainly: increased access to health and education, follow-up of pregnant women, increasing in prenatal examinations, reduction in malnutrition/child mortality, reduction in extreme poverty/hunger; reduction in epidemics/tuberculosis, control of alcohol/drug consumption, promotion of health/mental as well as basic sanitation improvements., Conclusions: Intersectoral and social participation experiences studied yielded positive outcomes regarding health status and quality of life in the communities in which such experiences were implemented., (Copyright © 2017 SESPAS. Communication cuts across all dimensions of social life, facing multiple contemporary challenges. This article explores six key challenges for the field of communication, of which three main ones are explored in depth: Critically dialogue between training, research and the profession; Expanding and strengthening the interdisciplinarity of the field; and Recovering the democratic potential of the Internet. The article highlights the need to integrate the digital with face-to-face human relations and strengthen social ties. It also underlines the importance of designing participatory processes that use technologies in a socially intelligent way to advance democratization, although this path is long and complex. Introduction: The active role of the audience in the creation of information in media such as Facebook, and their engagement in digital publications should be considered by health institutions to strengthen their health communication capacities Objective: To narratively analyze the comments of two health communication publications with high engagement on Facebook and their effect on the orientation towards the publication as a creative product and towards its intention Methodology: Qualitative study of narrative research. Results: In the analysis of Campaign A, on condom use, and Campaign B, on organ donation, the common categories identified were: narrative resources, language specificities, and main charader; and the differentiators: educational instrument and music Campaign A obtained positive orientations towards its product and intention. Campaign B had a positive orientation towards its product; however, the controversial load of its elements provoked a negative orientation towards its intention Conclusion: Health communication strategies should have methods of analysis of audience engagement considering their orientation towards creative products and their intention. The social participation of the elderly is important because it influences the inclusion, decision making, activities and bond established in the community. The objective is to identify the factors that affect the social participation of older adults in the 7 de Septiembre neighborhood. This research has a quantitative approach, a simple random probabilistic sampling was applied, with two surveys as main instruments for data collection aimed at the Elderly and the Neighborhood Directive, the data were processed in the SPSS Software. The results obtained reflect a series of interrelated factors that affect social participation in community initiatives aimed at older adults through social activities, an area that requires attention and effectiveness may be limited by ageism or stereotypes and environmental barriers. The discussion reflects the relationship between autonomy, stereotypes, environmental barriers and social support that highlights the complexity and suggests that interventions must be comprehensive and adapted to the specific needs of the age group. Social participation in the management of local development is vital for its success and sustainability. The involvement of all local actors in their own development is a maxim for the government and Cuban society today. In view of this challenge, the objective of this research is to design a methodological guide for the application of participatory budgeting as a tool for participation in the management of local development in Cuba, based on the "Por tu Barrio" experience of La Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad de La Habana. For this purpose, the following methods were used: historicallogical and systemic-structural, from a mixed methodological perspective. Based on the systematization and evaluation of the exercise, a methodology composed of five fundamental stages was proposed: preparation, organization, development, evaluation and feedback, and the lessons learned were determined, highlighting that the participatory budget should be developed in articulation with the rest of the public management instruments, that the municipal government should set itself up as a leader and that the neighborhood identity, the socio-demographic characteristics and the culture of participation condition the model. The relationship of the tool with the Municipal Development Strategies was also analyzed, showing the singular elements in the Cuban context for its socialization and replication. This research, due to its scope and object, constitutes a scientific novelty and an important reference, not only for studies on the subject, but also for local governments that determine the implementation of participatory budgeting in Cuba. Group identification has been proven to be one of the best predictors of social protest, as it seems to influence the relationship between mobilization and radicalism, an issue that has scarcely been researched to date. The purpose of this study, within the framework of the new dynamics of proactive mobilization, is to analyse the mediating role of group identification in the intention of radicalism, comparing social movements with a power orientation (political) and with a cultural orientation (ecofeminisms). Causal models were used to evaluate the mediating role of group identification in the relationship between social participation and radicalism in 920 participants from the general population. We found the existence of two action models in the relationship between participation and radicalism. In the case of political participation, the direct effects between the two variables are higher. However, in the case of ecofeminisms, the indirect effects are higher via self-categorization with the group. This article presents the results of an empirical investigation aimed at analyzing the influence of social networks on community projects promoted in neighborhoods in situations of vulnerability and/or social exclusion. First, the universe of community projects in a delimited territorial context (region of Murcia, Spain) is characterized and, subsequently, the impacts that social networks have had on them (content, typology, linkage, internal/external communication plan, aims, scope, participation, competencies, training and proposals) are analyzed. As for the procedure, the 22 community projects were analyzed from their inception (2021) to (2023), through documentary analysis (projects, memories) and digital/social networks and/or platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, Tiktok, Youtube and Web); 1282 documents/graphs were analyzed. Subsequently, semi-structured interviews were conducted with the professionals responsible for the universe of community projects, questionnaires were applied and a discussion group was formed with the professionals involved. The data collection instruments were previously validated. The results obtained show the importance and impact of social networks in the projects, becoming virtual community spaces that generate citizen participation, favoring the dissemination of actions and processes, the visibility of participants and results, the transparency of participatory processes, actions and decisions, as well as the promotion of community synergies. This article evaluates the structure of the collective efficacy regulation in two urban environments of the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico. Recent research highlights the necessity of considering the influence of space and time on trust, social cohesion, and informal social control, showing a more complex composition than some previous analyses assume. With methodologies used in other experiences, this paper was carried out in the historic center of Mexico City and Nezahualcóyotl, state of Mexico, using data from a survey conducted between November 2021 and January 2022. Results show that each urban environment has different collective efficacy regulations, and in both cases, a third underlying dimension is identified, which we call identification with the colony. Social capital is a theoretical construct that proposes scenarios where values such as cooperation, communication, and trust between people can create an ideal environment for solving socio-environmental problems. Ecological restoration is gaining momentum, since 2021-2030 is currently the "Decade of United Nations about Ecosystem Restoration". However, several authors consider that ecological restoration, in addition to repairing an ecosystem, should aim to generate collective actions, social learning, new human values, and new political relationships with nature. The objective of this study is to evaluate the importance of the social capital in the permanence of two participatory restoration projects, in two marginalized traditional indigenous communities in Mexico, through the case study and participant observation methodology. Although progressive social movements begin from egalitarian discursive positions, this does not necessarily imply that their practices are neutral to the existing axes of oppression in society. The aim of this study is to determine to what extent gender equality is present in their internal dynamics. For this purpose, the Battery for the Psychosocial Analysis of Mobilization (BAPsM) was created and implemented, obtaining a sample of 920 participants. The results show a high awareness of sexism that translates, to a lesser extent, into actions to promote equality in the groups, especially in areas such as public representation or the distribution of tasks. The Santa Clara community "El Gigante" presents problems in access to first-rate services and other needs of the population. At the request of the key actors of the town, a group from the degree in Architecture of the Universidad Central "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas undertook a project for the urban regeneration of the town. Different research methods and techniques were applied, addressing the community as a complex, dynamic and multidimensional object. The participatory diagnosis carried out detected the absence of public spaces, the poor construction conditions of health and education facilities, the deficient organization of communal services, and the exodus of young people to other areas. The participatory urban regeneration project proposed for said community is aimed at improving the living conditions of the inhabitants through the comprehensive and coordinated intervention of different social, economic, environmental and cultural actors. tourism is an economic activity and social phenomenon, where the society is a subsystem that impacts; therefore, community perception and participation in tourism planning and management is required. Precisely, in this research the concept of harmonious tourism and its methodology (META) is taken up to characterize the Rayon Complex System, in accordance with the vernacular-rational knowledge articulated with the biophysical and anthropic subsystem, the attributes of sustainability and flexibility in the selectivity of components by the researcher, to generate a diagnosis that promotes local development through tourism as a complementary economic activity. This study is exploratory, descriptive and qualitative; in which a literary review was made, and the use of techniques of the ethnographic method, such as; field trips, direct observation and in-depth interviews with different local social actors and the emic and etic perspective; to demonstrate that the Rayon Complex System shows resilience based on social and community participation to promote the recovery and dissemination of natural and cultural heritage, but community ties are required to generate community benefits, in addition to the importance of prior diagnostic before any intervention. Participatory processes, practices and methodologies have reached an important level of presence, compared to past decades, in the social, academic, research and political spheres. Different aspects of social and citizen participation have been addressed and analysed, but the driving forces are not sufficiently conceptualised, defined, evaluated and categorised. Therefore, this article focuses on such a figure in order to dimension it within a broad participatory process. The emphasis is usually placed more on the application of group dynamics and qualitative or, to a lesser extent, participatory techniques, where the role of the "expert" (technical and/or academic) continues to be more important than the role assumed by the citizenry, especially the unorganised. Based on the analysis of five case studies developed over the last two decades, in which the authors have participated and which are considered revealing, an assessment and exploration is made of the figure of the driving group, what it is and what it is for, how it is integrated into a participatory process and what results it produces. The importance of participation is slowly permeating the field of social services. This article reports on research regarding the assessment that professionals make about citizen participation in social services. A mixed methodology was used to approach the topic. The quantitative approach, through surveys of professionals from municipalities and social organizations, provides a characterization of citizen participation in this field. The qualitative approach, through interviews with experts and social services professionals, allows for the identification of the main challenges and opportunities for citizen participation in social services. The results show a limited citizen participation, which is mainly of advisory nature. On many occasions, these are isolated experiences that never develop into structures or binding participation mechanisms. The research concludes that there is broad consensus among experts and social services professionals regarding the importance of user participation to promote social intervention that enhances user autonomy. The strategy of protecting 30% of the planet's surface in protected areas (PAs) has gained global consensus within the framework of the Convention on Biological Biodiversity, with the expectation of safeguarding biodiversity while simultaneously addressing traditional problems such as wealth distribution. What measures and models would enable the achievement of this goal, and up to what limit? To find answers, this article explores various opinions gathered through literature searches, interviews, and field visits, while presenting some cases as examples of complexities, contradictions, and challenges. Drawing from these sources, proposals, models, opportunities, and potential scopes were identified. It is concluded that protecting biodiversity and simultaneously achieving social improvements is a desirable goal, albeit not easily attainable by any means. Protected areas offer powerful opportunities to enhance human life, but only if they are managed within their territorial integration matrix, taking into account delicate balances, nuanced multivariable models, and clear adaptive strategies. This study analyses the experience of Espacio Mestizo, a community and popular art project for disadvantaged young people in the city of León. An idiographic, qualitative approach was used for the case study of the Espacio Mestizo project. The sample involves 42 participants: 24 in the target group and 18 experts and educators. The techniques used were exploratory interviews, in-depth interviews, focus groups, and life stories. The results show that Espacio Mestizo helps disadvantaged adolescents become independent, boosting their self-esteem and empowerment, as well as their joint responsibility. It is especially important to highlight the boost in community development in building a critical model of citizenship, which, by reflecting pro-social values, contributes to social development. From a social, popular and community education perspective, participating in Espacio Mestizo meant being involved consciously, wholeheartedly and democratically in a communal and collective project, which also generated a certain bond between neighbourhoods.
