Abstract: The 1-amino-2-phenylethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid (APhEDPH4) is easily assembled to form two-dimensional (2D) supramolecular layer. It crystallizes from water solution to form hydrated compound APhEDPH4·3H2O (1). By introducing a base bridging ligand 4,4′-bipyridyl (4,4′-bipy), another supramolecular compound (APhEDPH3)2·(4,4′-bipyH2) (2) is obtained. Both of them were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), elemental analysis (EA), infrared spectrometry (IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and single crystal X-ray diffraction. In compound 1, APhEDPH4 molecules form 2D supramolecular layers and extend to 2D sandwich type supramolecular architecture with the existence of water molecules. Whereas, compound 2 contains 2D supramolecular layers constructed by anions, and shows a three-dimensional (3D) tessellate-type supramolecular structure via the bridging effect of . Compound 2 shows intense blue photoluminescence with when excited by ultraviolet ray. The effect of bridged ligand on the dimensions of the final product is also discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Trimethylboron (TMB) was investigated as a p-type dopant source for the vapor–liquid–solid growth of boron-doped silicon nanowires (SiNWs). The boron concentration in the nanowires was measured using secondary ion mass spectrometry and results were compared for boron-doping using TMB and diborane (B2H6) sources. Boron concentrations ranging from 1×1018 to 4×1019 cm-3 were obtained by varying the inlet dopant/SiH4 gas ratio. TEM characterization revealed that the B2H6-doped SiNWs consisted of a crystalline core with a thick amorphous Si coating, while the TMB-doped SiNWs were predominantly single crystal even at high boron concentrations. The difference in structural properties was attributed to the higher thermal stability and reduced reactivity of TMB compared to B2H6. Four-point resistivity and gate-dependent conductance measurements were used to confirm p-type conductivity in the TMB-doped nanowires and to investigate the effect of dopant concentration on nanowire resistivity. Six new steroidal saponins, namely glauco-chinaosides A–F, and one known compound were isolated from the tubers ofSmilax glauco-china. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic analysis and hydrolysis followed by spectral and chromatographic analysis. Compounds1–7were testedin vitrofor their cytotoxic activities against four human tumor cell lines (SH-SY5Y, SGC-7901, HCT-116, and Lovo). Abstract: The homometal cluster [Fe(DMF)6][W2(μ2-S)2S4] 1 (DMF=dimethylformamide) was successfully synthesized by low-temperature solid-state reactions. X-ray single-crystal diffraction studies reveal that compound 1 is dinuclear anion cluster. The compound was characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra and UV–vis spectra. The third-order non-linear optical (NLO) properties of the cluster were also investigated and exhibited non-linear rare saturation absorption (α 2 <0) and self-defocusing performance with modulus of the hyperpolarizabilities 9.547×10−31 esu for 1. Abstract: The heterometallic cluster [WM2S4(Pph3)3]·DMF (M2=1.25Ag+0.75Cu) 1 has been synthesized by low-temperature solid-state reaction. Single crystal X-ray analyses reveal that compound 1 possesses a linear skeleton with a W center slightly distorted from the tetrahedron. The compound was characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra and UV–visible spectra. Abstract: Both the homometal cluster [P(ph4)]2[Mo2O2(μ-S)2(S2)2] (1) and [Mo2O2(μ-S)2(Et2dtc)2] (2) (Et2dtc=diethyl-dithiocarbamate) were successfully synthesized by low-temperature solid-state reactions. X-ray single-crystal diffraction studies suggest that compound (1) is a dinuclear anion cluster, and compound (2) is a dinuclear neutral cluster. The two compounds were characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra and UV-Vis spectra. The third-order non-linear optical (NLO) properties of the clusters were also investigated and all exhibited nice non-linear absorption and self-defocusing performance with moduli of the hyperpolarizabilities 5.145×10−30 esu for (1) and 5.428×10−30 esu for (2). A novel copper(II) thiocyanate complex [Cu(im)2(NCS)2] 1 (im=imidazole) has been prepared and characterized by spectroscopic analysis and crystallographic method. This supramolecular compound exhibits a three-dimensional solid state structure constituted by N–H⋯S hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions. The compound in DMF solutions has a very strong third-order non-linear optical (NLO) behavior with absorption coefficient and refractive index α2=1.18×10−11 m w−1, n2=−9.00×10−16 m2 w−1, respectively, and third-order NLO susceptibility χ(3) of 7.00×10−10 esu.
