Abstract: Two novel inorganic–organic hybrid octamolybdate complexes [H2enMe]2[Mo8O26]·2H2O 1 (enMe=1,2-diaminopropane) and [Ni(2,2′-bpy)3]2[δ-Mo8O26] 2 (2,2′-bpy=2,2′-bipyridine) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by the elemental analyses, TG analyses, IR spectra, XPS spectra and the single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for 1: Monoclinic, space group P21/n, a=7.9059(16)Å, b=17.415(4)Å, c=11.509(2)Å, β=109.93(3)°, V=1489.7(5)Å3, Z=2, and R1[I>2σ(I)]=0.0447. Crystal data for 2: Monoclinic, space group C2/c, a=19.987(4)Å, b=14.117(3)Å, c=25.435(5)Å, β=100.59(3)°, V=7054(2)Å3, Z=4, and R1[I>2σ(I)]=0.0280. Compound 1 contains left-handed and right-handed helical chains, which are built up from only molybdenum oxide building blocks and further interconnected to form the double helical chains. The [Ni(2,2′-bpy)3]2+ coordination complexes in compound 2 are packed together via the aromatic π–π stacking interactions and exhibit an interesting 3D honeycomb ‘host’ network with 1D channels, in which the octamolybdate anions ‘guests’ reside. Abstract: Two nickel coordination polymers [Ni(H2O)(C4H4O5)]·H2O 1 and [Ni(H2O)(mal)(phen)] 2, have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for 1: C4H8O7Ni, monoclinic Cc, , , , , . Crystal data for 2: C16H14N2O6Ni, orthorhombic Pna21, , , , . Compound 1 is constructed from [Ni(H2O)(C4H4O5)] sheets pillared through β-carboxylate groups into a 3D framework, which exhibits a diamond-like network. Compound 2 exhibits a 3D supramolecular network. To our knowledge, compound 1 represents the first diamond-like topology in the system of metal–malate. Other characterizations by elemental analysis, IR and TG are also described. The magnetic behavior of compound 1 has been studied. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Two novel layered chiral rare-earth selenites [Ln(H2O)(HSeO3)(SeO3)] H2O (Ln=Dy, 1, and Gd, 2) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by the elemental analyses, IR spectra, XPS spectra, TG analyses and the single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group P212121, with a=6.5767(13)Å, b=6.9320(14)Å, c=16.333(3)Å, and Z=4. Compound 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group P212121, with a=6.6216(13)Å, b=7.0086(14)Å, c=16.424(3)Å, and Z=4. Compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural, and both exhibit interesting chiral layer constructed from {Ln(H2O)(HSeO3)}n left-handed helical chains linked by [SeO3]2- anions. Furthermore, the chiral layers are connected by strong hydrogen bonding interactions to form the three-dimensional structure with chiral channels along the [100] directions. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A novel two-dimensional inorganic–organic hybrid vanadate complex [Co(2,2′-bpy)2V3O8.5] 1 (2,2′-bpy, 2,2′-bipyridine) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by the elemental analyses, XPS spectra, TG analysis, IR spectrum and the single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for 1: monoclinic, space group P21/c, a=15.612(3)Å, b=14.830(3)Å, c=10.548(2)Å, β=91.90(3)°, V=2440.8(8)Å3, Z=4, and R1[I>2σ(I)]=0.0367. The title compound consists of an unusual two-dimensional vanadate network grafted with [Co(2,2′-bpy)2]2+ complexes. Moreover, compound 1 contains left-handed and right-handed helical chains, which are built up from only vanadium-oxide building blocks and further interconnected to form the double helical chains. A new octamolybdate-supported transition metal complex [{Ni(phen)2}2(Mo8O26)] (1) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by the elemental analyses, IR spectrum, XPS spectra, TG analysis and the single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c, a=10.446(2) Å, b=12.103(2) Å, c=21.956(4) Å, β=97.81(3)°, V=2750.0(10) Å3, and Z=2. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that compound 1 is constructed from a novel unprecedented η-type octamolybdate cluster linked to two {Ni(phen)2}2 coordination complexes. A novel layered vanadium arsenate [V4O7(HAsO4)2(o-phen)2] 1 (o-phen=o-phenanthroline) was synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction of V2O5, ZnCl2, Na2HAsO4·7H2O, o-phenanthroline (o-phen) and water. Its structure was determined by elemental analyses, ESR spectrum, XPS spectrum, TG analysis, IR spectrum and the single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in monoclinic system, space group P2/c, a=10.122(2) A˚, b=9.867(2) A˚, c=15.367(3) A˚, β=102.83(3)°, V=1496.4(5) A˚3, Z=1, λ(MoKα)=0.71073 A˚, (R(F)=0.0397 for 3422 reflections). Data were collected on a Rigaku R-AXIS RAPID IP diffractometer at 293 K in the range of 2.06°<θ<27.48°. The title compound contains an unusual two-dimensional (2D) As–V–O layer with four-, six- and eight-membered rings. The chelating o-phen ligands project perpendicularly above and below the undulating layer. 1 represents the first example of 2D inorganic vanadium arsenate backbone grafted with the directly coordinated organic ligands. Furthermore, the 3D supermolecular architecture is formed by π–π stacking interactions of the o-phen groups between adjacent layers. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
