In this paper, a wear model is established for a V-shaped linear ultrasonic motor. The influence of the change in the dynamic friction coefficient and the roughness parameters of the contact surface of the stator/slider on the output performance of the motor is considered in this model. The wear mechanism of the motor and the variation rules of the morphology of the contact surface during the operation of the motor are studied, as well as the relation of the wear height of the driving tip with the preload force and the relation of the preload force with the resonance frequency of the stator. The accuracy of the model is verified by numerical simulation and experimental methods. A test platform for friction and wear experiments is constructed, and the wear characteristics and the output performance of the motor are tested. The obtained results indicated that the model can accurately predict the dynamic changes during the wear process and the service life and output performance of the motor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a thermal-mechanical-electric coupling dynamic model is developed for a V-shape linear ultrasonic motor. The impact of surface roughness of stator/slider on the motor temperature rise as well as the temperature dependence of the stator material parameters are considered in this model. The relationship between the resonant frequency of the stator and the temperature is investigated, and the variation relation of motor parameters with regard to the temperature is discussed. The validity of the model is verified by numerical simulation and experimental results. Based on the proposed model, the influences of surface roughness of stator/slider, driving voltage, driving frequency and pre-pressure on motor temperature and velocity are studied and analyzed, and the comparison between the measuring data and the previous reported model with constant parameters are conducted. The results denote that the established model under different input parameters can be more accurately to predict the dynamic changes of temperature and velocity of the motor, which will be a valuable guide for the improvement of precise control and long-term stable operation of the motor. In this study, a large thrust linear ultrasonic motor using an L-shaped stator is described. The stator is constructed by two mutually perpendicular rectangular plate vibrators, one of which is mounted in parallel with the slider to make the motor structure to be more compact. The symmetric and antisymmetric modes of the stator based on the first order bending vibration of two vibrators are adopted, in which each resonance mode is assigned to drive the slider in one direction. The placement of piezoelectric ceramics in a stator could be determined by finite element analysis, and the influence of slots in the head block on the vibration amplitudes of driving foot was studied as well. Three types of prototypes (non-slotted, dual-slot, and single-slot) were fabricated and experimentally investigated. Experimental results demonstrated that the prototype with one slot exhibited the best mechanical output performance. The maximum loads under the excitation of symmetric mode and antisymmetric mode were 65 and 90 N, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents a high-efficient thermal analysis methodology and outlines a set of useful design guidelines for high-power linear ultrasonic motors. A thermal network modeling technique is introduced to rapidly calculate the temperature rise for a typical high-power linear ultrasonic motor with a V-shaped stator. First, a six-terminal equivalent circuit for Langevin piezoelectric transducer considering the prestress bolt loss and all three losses in piezoelectrics is proposed to calculate the stator loss. Then, the calculated losses along with the friction loss are used as inputs into the developed thermal network model to calculate the temperature rise of critical parts of the motor. Furthermore, an analytical mechanical model combined with the proposed thermal network is established to calculate the temporal–spatial distribution of the stator thermal stress for evaluating its fatigue under the heating-up process. Single-mode linear ultrasonic motors (SMLUMs) have the advantages of excellent accuracy, long travel distance, single vibration mode and simple driving scheme, which have been applied in precision positioning and micro/nano manipulation actuators. However, it is still challenging to accurately and efficiently analyze such motors due to their complicated electro-mechanical coupling behaviors under contact-based operating conditions. This paper proposed an improved equivalent circuit model for a single-mode linear ultrasonic motor considering the real contact-based operating conditions, where a new actuation mode of the V-shape transducer is adopted. The electro-mechanical coupling characteristics of the stator under contact-based boundary condition is modeled by a modified admittance-type equivalent circuit, where the variable contact stiffness and loss are characterized between the stator and the mover. The friction drive mechanism is modeled by a thyristor rectifying circuit to characterize the intermittent actuation characteristics, and the nonlinear relationship between the motor characteristics and the contact-based operating conditions is initially characterized from the circuit viewpoint.
