The aim is to investigate the impact of phase contents on mechanical properties, translucency, and aging stability of additively manufactured yttria partially stabilized zirconia ceramics. For that purpose, we evaluated two PSZ materials. The first type was prepared utilizing commercially available 5 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia(5Y-PSZ), while the second type, denoted as 3Y+8Y-PSZ ceramics, was fabricated by blending 3 mol% and 8 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia powders. Compared to 5Y-PSZ (39.90 wt% tetragonal phases and c/a2 = 1.0141), 3Y+8Y-PSZ is characterized by a greater abundance of tetragonal phases (47.68 wt%), which display higher tetragonality (c/a2 = 1.0165) and lower yttrium oxide content (2.25mol%). As a result, the 3Y+8Y-PSZ demonstrates elevated strength (816.52 MPa) and toughness (4.32 MPa m 1/2 ), accompanied by reduced translucency(CR:0.47) and it exhibits greater susceptibility to aging. The purpose of this study was to obtain dental ceramic materials with excellent mechanical properties and high resistance to low temperature degradation (LTD) via stereolithography (SLA) in combination with microwave sintering (MWS). The results have shown that the unaged MWS-1425 °C 3Y-TZP ceramics with uniform microstructure have high density up to 99.04% and excellent mechanical properties (Vickers hardness 14.07 GPa, fracture toughness 4.32 MPa m 1/2 , flexural strength 947.87 MPa). After 50 h of LTD, the m-phase content of MWS 3Y-TZP ceramics accounts for only 10.3%. In addition, the surface roughness increases by only 1.3 nm, the degraded depth is less than 5 μm, and the flexural strength exceeds 900 MPa. A study was conducted to explore the potential of 5 mol% yttria-partially stabilized zirconia (5Y-PSZ) ceramics for dental restorations, using stereolithography (SLA) printing technique. Four different solid loadings were established in the ceramic paste systems to study their effects on microstructure, mechanical properties, and translucency. The study examined the rheological behavior and photopolymerization performance of the ceramic pastes with varying solid loadings. Results showed that, an increase in powder concentration resulted in a decrease in cure depth (Cd) and penetration depth (Dp). A narrower pore size distribution was observed in the green bodies with a high solid loading, facilitating the achievement of final densification. The green and sintered densities were highest at 52 vol%, with values of 3.46 ± 0.01 g/cm 3 and 6.01 ± 0.02 g/cm 3 , respectively. Additionally, all of the green strengths exceeded 30 MPa, with a maximum of 35.09 ± 2.02 MPa obtained at 44 vol%. The maximum flexural strength and minimum contrast ratio (CR) value of 746 ± 75 MPa and 0.40 ± 0.01 were achieved at 52 vol% after sintering. No significant differences were observed in the phase composition and hardness of the as-sintered ceramics. Ceramic stereolithography 3D printing technology has demonstrated great potential in alumina core manufacturing for advanced turbine blade casting. However, there have been very few photosensitive material formulas specifically designed for alumina core fabrications. Herein, we present the design of a 3D printable ceramic paste based on bimodal particle size distributions for additive manufacturing of high‐quality alumina cores. The coarse particles in the paste remain in their original shape while the fine particles transform into platelet‐like particles during sintering. The effects of coarse particles, platelet‐like particles, and grain growth on maintaining porosity and limiting shrinkage rates are studied. Furthermore, the vacuum sintering process is found to be beneficial for core material properties. The physical properties tests verify that the newly designed alumina paste in this work can meet the application requirement, which is superior to the previous research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Additive manufacturing techniques have demonstrated great potential in space manufacturing for long-duration human spaceflight and colonization on alien planets. Herein, we present the design and manufacturing of previously inaccessible complex ceramic components with high precision in a microgravity environment. The proposed approach is based on controlling the rheological properties of ceramic slurry in reduced-gravity. Briefly, HE-cellulose and carbomer 940 are added as thickening agents to transform the ceramic slurry into a ceramic paste(soft matter), which exhibits Bingham pseudoplastic behavior and is not sensitive to gravity variations during parabolic flight. Additionally, X-ray computed tomography (XCT) results reveal that the as-prepared alumina samples, 3D printed in a microgravity environment, render a higher density of 99.3% after sintering. The proposed route can be applied to fabricate complex-shaped ceramic components in space, enabling various possibilities of manufacturing structural and functional materials, including gradient materials, solid fuel cells, active insulation ceramic structures and piezoelectric sensors. We prepare bimodal particle size photo-curable ceramic pastes with high solid loadings (up to 65 vol %) and fabricate porous alumina ceramic cores with complex shapes via ceramic stereolithography (Cer-SLA) 3D printing technique. The sintering temperature is carefully selected, ranging from 1500 °C to 1650 °C, and a high holding time (>4 h) is applied to guarantee that the materials can withstand the subsequent high temperature (>1500 °C) casting process for single-crystal nickel-based superalloy hollow turbine blades. Herein, the originally spherical fine particles are found to become platelet-like after sintering, and the forming mechanism is discussed in detail. In addition, we explore the influence of platelet-like particles, coarse particles and sintering process on the microstructural evolution of alumina particles, and reveal the relationship between microstructure and properties of ceramic cores. These results illustrate that the proposed materials for SLA 3D printing exhibit a great potential in the fabrication of complex-shaped alumina ceramic cores for high-precision investment casting, e.g., manufacturing single-crystal nickel-based superalloy hollow turbine blades for an advanced aircraft engine. In this study, the effects of sintering temperature and low-temperature degradation (LTD) on the microstructure and flexural strength of 0.06 wt% Fe 2 O 3 -doped 3Y-TZP ceramics fabricated via stereolithography-based additive manufacturing were evaluated to assess their suitability for dental applications. The ceramics' comprehensive properties, including density, microstructure, phase composition, and three-point flexural strength, were analyzed over a range of sintering temperature from 1400 °C to 1600 °C. The findings revealed that specimens sintered at 1500 °C exhibited the highest density (6.03 g/cm3), a uniform microstructure, and superior mechanical properties (911.54 MPa). However, sintering temperatures above 1500 °C led to abnormal grain growth and martensitic transformation of tetragonal zirconia to the monoclinic phase, resulting in reduced density and material degradation. To investigate the effects of LTD on the phase structure, microstructure, and flexural strength, the specimens sintered at 1500 °C were subjected to LTD tests at 134 °C and 2 bar for 5, 10, and 20 h, respectively. The results demonstrated an increase in the m-phase content from 2.58 wt% to 21.89 wt% on the ceramics' surface. Atomic force microscopy observations revealed a gradual increase in the m-phase grain with longer aging time. Meanwhile, the flexural strength decreased but remained within the required range for dental restorations. In conclusion, the specimens fabricated via stereolithography-based additive manufacturing and sintered at 1500 °C for 4 h demonstrated high mechanical properties and good LTD resistance.
