The authors of this work have optimized a novel synthetic route towards glucose‐based PdII‐bis(NHC) complexes in only 4 steps with total yields up to 73 %. The synthesis route encompasses an Appel reaction towards 6‐iodo‐glucopyranosides, followed by acyl‐protection, then quaternization with imidazoles and finally the conversion of these acyl‐protected glucosyl imidazolium salts to their respective palladium(II)bis(NHC) complexes, via an intermediary silver(I) complex. Overall, 11 acyl‐protected glucosyl imidazolium iodides as NHC‐precursors and 15 complexes have been synthesized. The structure‐activity relationships of different functionalizations in these complexes and their reactivity in a model Suzuki‐Miyaura between bromobenzene and 4‐tolueneboronic acid reaction has been investigated, and a highly reactive complex leading to >99 % yield at 0.005 mol% catalytic loading has been found. Four different isomeric azadibenzo[a,e]pyrenes (benzo[4,10]anthra[9,1‐gh]isoquinolines and benzo[4,10]anthra[1,9‐fg]isoquinolines) were prepared by combination of Pd‐catalyzed Sonogashira and Suzuki cross‐coupling, Brønsted acid mediated cycloisomerization and Pd‐catalysed CH‐activation reactions. The optical properties have been studied by steady‐state absorption and emission spectroscopy in different solvents and during acid titration. Trifluoroacetic acid protonation strongly affects absorption and emission properties, with variations depending on the position of the nitrogen atom of the specific compound. A convenient synthesis of various benzoacridines and benzophenanthridines from readily available dihalogenated quinolines is reported. The synthesis is based on regioselective Suzuki and Sonogashira reactions followed by Brønsted acid‐mediated cycloisomerization. A new and efficient two-step procedure for the preparation of 5,7-disubstituted 5,7-dihydropyrido[2,3- b:6,5- b′]diindoles, containing aryl-, benzyl- as well as alkyl-substituents has been developed. 5,7-Dihydropyrido[3,2- b:5,6- b′]diindoles were prepared by a highly efficient two-step synthesis that involved a site-selective Suzuki coupling reaction of 2,3,5,6-tetrabromopyridine and a subsequent Pd-catalyzed cyclization that proceeded through a twofold C-N coupling reaction with aromatic and aliphatic amines. With the exception of the parent molecule, which was described in a patent without any characterization data, the 5,7-dihydropyrido[3,2- b:5,6- b′]diindoles are a new chemical entity. Their electrochemical and photochemical properties were investigated. These pyridodiindoles show promising fluorescence properties with good quantum yields and interesting electrochemical behavior. Abstract: Chemoselective Suzuki–Miyaura reactions of 2-bromo-1-(trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy)naphthalene, 1-bromo-2-(trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy) naphthalene and 2-acetyl-4-bromo-1-(trifluoromethanesulfonyloxy)naphthalene, which are all readily available from the corresponding tetralone derivatives, afforded a variety of mono- and diarylnaphthalenes. The reactions generally proceed with excellent chemoselectivity in favour of the bromide position, no matter whether the bromide is located at position 1 or 2 of the naphthalene or whether the carbon attached to the triflate group is electronically more deficient by the presence of a neighbouring acetyl group. 4-Bromo-3- O -triflyl-estrone has been synthesized in 2 steps from estrone and was successfully employed in chemoselective palladium catalysed Suzuki-Miyaura reactions. Mono- and bis-arylations were carried out selectively by variation of ligands and solvents. Overall 19 derivatives of mono- and bis-arylated estrones were synthesized under optimized conditions in high yields. Various novel arylated estrone derivatives, such as 2-aryl-, 4-aryl- and 2,4-diaryl-estrones, by Suzuki-Miyaura reactions. While the synthesis of 4-arylestrones could be carried out under standard conditions, the synthesis of 2-arylestrones and 2,4-diarylestrones required a thorough optimization of the conditions and it proved to be important to use sterically encumbered biaryl ligands. The best results were obtained by the use of RuPhos. Combination of developed Suzuki coupling reactions with subsequent cyclization reactions afforded more complex hybrid structures, containing dibenzofuran, benzocoumarin and steroid moieties. These derivatives were tested as pancreatic lipase inhibitors and it was found that most of the compounds exhibited inhibition of pancreatic lipase but the maximum inhibitory potential was shown by 4-arylestrones. All of the synthesized derivatives showed inhibitory values in the range of 0.82 ± 0.01–59.7 ± 3.12 μM. The biological activity was also rationalized on the bases of docking studies. Pd- or Ni-catalyzed C-H arylation of 4-nitroimidazole derivatives directed by a manipulable nitro group was developed. The reaction tolerates a wide range of substituted aryl halides and 4-nitroimidazoles. The experiments indicated that the nitro group has influence on regioselectivity of the reaction. In addition, we have shown that the efficiency of the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of nitroimidazoles is slightly lower in comparison to the direct C-H arylation.
