This paper deals with a new species of genus Parabonzia and newly recorded genus Bonzia from China. Parabonzia bioxys Chen & Jin sp. nov., which is described and illustrated based on adult females collected from rotten wood in Hainan Province, China, differs from all other Parabonzia by the dorsal seta of the palp telofemur having two tines instead of three or more (most species) or being unbranched (P. mindanensisCorpuz-Raros, 1996). Pristidia cervicornuta Yu, Zhang & Chen, 2017 is redescribed based on new material from the type locality, Diaoluo Mountains of Hainan Island, China. This paper deals with five new species of torrenticolid water mites (Acari, Hydrachnidia, Torrenticolidae) from Hainan Island, China, i.e. Monatractides cuspiscoxer sp. nov., M. jini sp. nov., M. vietusacoxer sp. nov., Torrenticola postfusina sp. nov. and T. hainanensis sp. nov.. A contribution to the knowledge of the malachiine genus Intybia Pascoe, 1866 from China is given. Two new species groups: Intybia klapperichi group and Intybia eversi group are defined and described. A new species, Intybia hainanensis Wang & Liu, sp. nov., of the Intybia klapperichi group is described from Hainan Province. Intybia erectodentatus (Wittmer, 1982) and Intybia concha Asano, 2015 are redescribed based on new materials collected in mainland China. Two new species of ponerine ants from Hainan Province, China, Leptogenys hainanensis sp. nov. and L. zhoui sp. nov., are delineated and depicted based on the worker caste. Leptogenys hainanensis sp. nov. belongs to the L. leleji species group, with mandibles elongate, slender and curved, lacking a distinct masticatory margin. On the other hand, L. zhoui sp. nov. belongs to the L. crassicornis species group, distinguished by its square head, smooth body, mandibles with a dentate masticatory margin, and short antennae. Tea-oil tree (Camellia oleifera Abel.) is an important edible oil woody plant with a planting area over 3,800,000 hectares in southern China. Species of Diaporthe inhabit a wide range of plant hosts as plant pathogens, endophytes and saprobes. Here, we conducted an extensive field survey in Hainan Province to identify and characterise Diaporthe species associated with tea-oil leaf spots. As a result, eight isolates of Diaporthe were obtained from symptomatic C. oleifera leaves. These isolates were studied, based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses of partial ITS, cal, his3, tef1 and tub2 gene regions. The orb-weaver spider genus Gea C.L. Koch, 1843 from China is revised, and three species including one new species, are recognized: Gea jingdong Mi, Wang & Gan, sp. nov. (♂♀) from Yunnan; Gea spinipes C.L. Koch, 1843 (♂♀) from Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Taiwan, and Yunnan; and Gea subarmata Thorell, 1890 (♂♀) from Guangxi and Hainan. The few already published generic features of the genus Prochasma Warren, 1897 are reviewed and new-found characters are added to make the generic description more comprehensive. A new species, Prochasma diaoluoensis Liu & Stüning, sp. nov. is described from Hainan Province, China. It is the only Prochasma species found on this island and exceptional for its conspicuous pattern, vivid coloration and some morphological characters not observed in other species before. Descriptions and illustrations of adults, their venation, and male and female genitalia are presented. An identification key and an annotated checklist of all presently known species of Prochasma are provided. Apiospora is widely distributed throughout the world, and most of its hosts are Poaceae. In this study, Arthrinium-like strains were isolated from non-Poaceae in the Hainan and Fujian provinces of China. Based on the combined DNA sequence data of the internal transcriptional spacer (ITS), partial large subunit nuclear rDNA (LSU), translation extension factor 1-α gene (TEF1-α) and β-tubulin (TUB2), the collected Apiospora specimens were compared with known species, and three new species were identified. The genus Gongronella is important in agriculture and industry by secreting various natural bioactive metabolites such as chitosanases and organic acids. During the most recent 8 years, a total of 14 new species have been described, remarkably enriching the diversity of this genus. In this study, we added three more new species to this valuable genus, based on a combination of morphological traits and phylogenetic information. Six strains of the genus Gongronella were isolated from soil collected in Hainan Province, China. Phylogenetic analyses of ITS and LSU rDNA sequences grouped these strains into three independent clades. According to their unique morphological characteristics, they were classified as G. multiramosa sp. nov., G. qichaensis sp. nov. and G. oleae sp. nov. The G. multiramosa was characterized by multiple branched sporangiophores and was closely related to G. pedratalhadensis. The G. qichaensis was characterized by obscure collars and closely related to G. butleri, G. hydei and G. banzhaoae. The G. oleae was characterized by the presence of oil droplets in the sporangiospores and was closely related to G. chlamydospora and G. multispora. Species of the genus Microdochium (Microdochiaceae, Xylariales) have been reported from the whole world and separated from multiple plant hosts. The primary aim of the present study is to describe and illustrate three new species isolated from the leaf spot of Bambusaceae sp. and saprophytic leaves in Hainan and Yunnan provinces, China. The proposed three species, viz., Microdochium bambusae, M. nannuoshanense and M. phyllosaprophyticum, are based on multi-locus phylogenies from a combined dataset of ITS rDNA, LSU, RPB2 and TUB2 in conjunction with morphological characteristics. The genus Eriovixia Archer, 1951 is a small tropical genus and exhibits a wide geographical distribution from Southeast Asia to Africa. In this paper, the genus Eriovixia is revised in Hainan Island, China, and three new species, E. nigrimaculata sp. nov., E. huwena sp. nov. and E. jianfengensis sp. nov., are described. Based on the type species description and three species figures, we think Tukaraneus Barrion & Litsinger, 1995 is a junior synonym of Eriovixia Archer, 1951. Accordingly, three species, Tukaraneus mahabaeus Barrion & Litsinger, 1995, Tukaraneus palawanensis Barrion & Litsinger, 1995 and Tukaraneus patulisus Barrion & Litsinger, 1995, are transferred from Tukaraneus to Eriovixia. E. excelsa (Simon, 1889), E. pseudocentrodes (Bosenberg & Strand, 1906) and E. sakiedaorum Tanikawa, 1999 are recorded for the first time for Hainan Island's fauna. A key to the genus Eriovixia is presented excepting three species distributed in Africa. Biogeographic analyses show that Southeast Asia is a centre of distribution, diversification and speciation of the genus Eriovixia, and Hainan Island's fauna posesses high species richness and endemism. Two species assigned to Massuria Thorell, 1887 are reviewed. The female of Massuria bandian Tang & Li, 2010 is described for the first time from Jianfengling National Natural Reserve, Hainan Province, China. The species Diaea simplex Xu, Han & Li, 2008 is described as a synonym of Massuria bellula Xu, Han & Li, 2008 based on female and male specimens from Guangdong Province, China. The genus Catatemnus Beier, 1932 is reported for the first time from China and includes six new species: C. huae sp. nov. from Hainan Island, C. laminosus sp. nov., C. ramus sp. nov., C. scaber sp. nov., and C. tengchongensis sp. nov. all from Yunnan Province, and C. tibetanus sp. nov. from Xizang Autonomous Region. Three new genera and eleven new species are reported from Hainan Island, China. The new genera are Logunattus gen. nov., including L. dufui sp. nov. (♂), and the generotype L. libaii sp. nov. (♂♀), Qiongattus yuanyeae gen. et sp. nov. (♂♀), and Spiralembolus gen. nov., including the generotype S. yinggeling sp. nov. (♂♀), and S. yui sp. nov. (♂♀). In China, Hainan Island is a priority area for turtle conservation because of its biodiversity. Over the years, errors in turtle taxonomy and distribution have been made in the scientific literature, perpetuating into relevant laws and government documents and affecting conservation and management. In the present article, we describe the species of nonmarine turtles on Hainan Island, China, based on literature, museum specimens, and field surveys during the past 27 yrs. Historically, 23 nonmarine turtle species were recorded on Hainan Island. Among them, 9 species should be removed due to errors: 5 species are not naturally distributed on Hainan Island (Manouria impressa, Sacalia bealei, Cuora flavomarginata, Mauremys nigricans, and Mauremys reevesii), 3 are invalid hybrids (Ocadia philippeni, Sacalia pseudocellata, and Cuora serrata), and 1 is a synonym of another species (Mauremys megalocephala is a synonym of M. reevesii). In addition, of the 3 new species recorded from Hainan Island (Sacalia insulensis, Pelodiscus variegatus, and Pelodiscus parviformis), S. insulensis replaces Sacalia quadriocellata, P. variegatus is valid, and P. parviformis is likely an error. Therefore, there should be 12 nonmarine turtle species naturally found on Hainan Island: Platysternon megacephalum, Cuora galbinifrons, Cuora mouhotii, Cuora trifasciata, Geoemyda spengleri, Mauremys mutica, Mauremys sinensis, S. insulensis, Palea steindachneri, Pelochelys cantorii, Pelodiscus sinensis, and P. variegatus. Clarifying the presence and distribution of nonmarine turtle species will provide a reference for future research and practical guidance for conservation management on this turtle-rich island. A new mysmenid genus, Chimena gen. nov., is reported from China. Two new species: C. qiong sp. nov. (Hainan, ♂♀, the type species) and C. nantou sp. nov. (Taiwan, ♀) are illustrated and described in detail. A new combination is suggested: Chimena taiwanica (Ono, 2007) comb. nov. (Taiwan, ♂♀, transferred from Mysmena Simon, 1894). A new genus and eight new species of jumping spiders from Hainan Island, China are reported. Pengmarengo gen. nov. is erected to accommodate the type species P. yangi sp. nov. (♂♀). Further Pengmarengo gen. nov. species including P. chelifer (Simon, 1990), comb. nov. (transferred from Philates Simon, 1900), P. elongata (Peng & Li, 2002), comb. nov. (transferred from Tauala Wanless, 1988), and two species transferred from Indomarengo Benjamin, 2004: P. yui (Wang & Li, 2020), comb. nov., and P. wengnan (Wang & Li, 2022), comb. nov. During our ongoing survey of dematiaceous hyphomycetes associated with dead branches in tropical forests, eight Acrodictys isolates were collected from Hainan, China. Morphology from the cultures and phylogeny based on partial small subunit (SSU), entire internal transcribed spacer regions with intervening 5.8S (ITS), partial large subunit (LSU) of rRNA gene, partial beta-tubulin (tub2), and partial RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (rpb2) genes were employed to identify these isolates. As a result, four new species, namely Acrodictys bawanglingensis sp. nov., A. diaoluoshanensis sp. nov., A. ellisii sp. nov., and A. pigmentosa sp. nov., are introduced. Illustrations and descriptions of the four taxa are provided, along with comparisons with closely related taxa in the genus. Two species of Whalleya from Guizhou and Hainan Provinces were collected during the investigation of Xylariales from 2019 to 2021. According to morphological and molecular characteristics, Whalleya hainanensis sp. nov. and W. microplaca are introduced. Whalleya hainanensis differs from W. microplaca by its obovoid or tubular perithecia and the slightly raised stromata; and differs from W. maculata by its smaller ascospores. The fungal genus Phyllosticta has been reported from all around the world and accommodates numerous pathogenic and endophytic species isolated from a wide range of plant hosts. Based on multilocus phylogenies from a combined dataset of genes encoding internal transcribed spacer (ITS), large subunit of ribosomal RNA (LSU rDNA), translation elongation factor 1 alpha (TEF1a), actin (ACT) and glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPDH), in conjunction with morphological characteristics, we describe two new species P. oblongifoliae sp. nov. and P. pterospermi sp. nov., as well as a new Chinese record P. capitalensis. Species in Microdochium, potential agents of biocontrol, have often been reported as plant pathogens, occasionally as endophytes and fungicolous fungi. Combining multiple molecular markers (ITS rDNA, LSU rDNA, TUB2 and RPB2) with morphological characteristics, this study proposes three new species in the genus Microdochium represented by seven strains from the plant hosts Miscanthus sinensis and Phragmites australis in Hainan Island, China. These three species, Microdochium miscanthi sp. Nov., M. sinense sp. Nov. and M. hainanense sp. Nov., are described with MycoBank number, etymology, typification, morphological features and illustrations, as well as placement on molecular phylogenetic trees. Their affinity with morphologically allied and molecularly closely related species are also analyzed. An amphoroid diatom epiphytic on seagrass leaves from Hainan Province, southern China was identified as Amphora lunulata Wachnicka & Gaiser. It is characterized by a semi-elliptical valve with acute apices, ventral striae interrupted at the centre, and an axial area, which is well developed on the dorsal side but narrower at the centre, in accordance with its original description. However, as seen under the scanning electronic microscope, A. lunulata presents a combination of features that is consistent with the description of the genus Seminavis, i.e., slit-like areolae covered by hymenes, terminal fissures hooked toward the dorsal side and unornamented valvocopula. Therefore, we redefined the taxonomic status of Amphora lunulata A.H. Wachnicka & E.E. Gaiser and transferred it to the genus Seminavis. We compared the morphometric characteristics of Seminavis lunulata to those of the original description from Wachnicka & Gaiser (2007) and other taxa in Seminavis, including Seminavis atlantica M. Selaginella iridescens (Selaginellaceae), a new species of spikemoss from Hainan Island, China, is described based on morphological and molecular evidence. The new species morphologically resembles S. pseudotamariscina from Vietnam which was recently recognized and segregated from S. tamariscina and S. pulvinata. Some characters of S. iridescens, including the iridescent leaves and long arista (0.35-1.20 mm long), the widely membranaceous margin of axillary leaves (ca. 2/3), dorsal leaves sulcate extending to the top, and slender main stem, dorsoventrally prostrate, distinguish it from S. pseudotamariscina. Phylogenetic results based on rbcL of 28 Selaginella species indicate that S. iridescens is sister to S. pseudotamariscina, and distant from the S. tamariscina-S. pulvinata clade. The ancestral character reconstruction result reveals that the rosette is apomorphic and has evolved independently at least six times in Selaginella. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two new species of the small and rarely collected family Megalyridae are described from China: Carminator daliensis Chen & Liuhe, sp. nov. from Yunnan and Ettchellsia hainanensis Chen & Liuhe, sp. nov. from Hainan. Neoboletus infuscatus (Boletaceae, Boletales) is described as a new species from Yinggeling of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, southern China. It is morphologically characterized by a large basidioma with a nearly glabrous, brownish yellow, yellowish brown to pale brown pileus, pores orangish red when young, yellowish brown to brown when old, context and hymenophore staining blue when injured, a yellow stipe with red punctuations, surfaces of the pileus and the stipe usually covered with a thin layer of white pruina when young. Phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequences from part of the 28S gene, the nuclear rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, and part of the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF1) also confirm that N. infuscatus forms an independent lineage within Neoboletus. Two new species of the genus Dugesia (Platyhelminthes, Tricladida, Dugesiidae) from Hainan Island of China are described on the basis of morphological, karyological and molecular data. Dugesia semiglobosa Chen & Dong, sp. nov. is mainly characterized by a hemispherical, asymmetrical penis papilla with ventrally displaced ejaculatory duct opening terminally at tip of penis papilla; vasa deferentia separately opening into mid-dorsal portion of intrabulbar seminal vesicle; two diaphragms in the ejaculatory duct; copulatory bursa formed by expansion of bursal canal, lined with complex stratified epithelium, which projects through opening in bursa towards intestine, without having open communication with the gut; mixoploid chromosome complement diploid (2n = 16) and triploid (3n = 24), with metacentric chromosomes. Dugesia majuscula Chen & Dong, sp. nov. is mainly characterized by oviducts opening asymmetrically into female reproductive system; hyperplasic ovaries; expanded posterior section of bursal canal; vasa deferentia separately opening into mid-dorsal portion of seminal vesicle; asymmetrical penis papilla due to ventral course of ejaculatory duct, which has subterminal and dorsal opening at tip papilla; mixoploid chromosome complement diploid (2n = 16) and triploid (3n = 24); chromosomes metacentric. Apart from their anatomy, separate species status of the two new species is supported also by their genetic distances and by their positions in the phylogenetic tree. Two new species of steganacarid mites (Oribatida, Phthiracaroidea, Steganacaridae), Atropacarus (Hoplophorella) bacillisetussp. nov. from Hainan Province and Atropacarus (Hoplophorella) longicarinatussp. nov. from Guangxi Province, are described and illustrated. The asexual taxon Phialolunulospora vermispora gen. et sp. nov., collected from submerged dicotyledonous leaves in Hainan, China, is described and illustrated herein. Phialolunulospora gen. nov. is characterized by macronematous, semimacronematous, septate and pigmented conidiophores and acrogenous, long lunate, vermiform to sigmoid, hyaline conidia with an eccentric basal appendage. Complete sequences of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and partial sequences of nuclear large subunits ribosomal DNA (LSU) genes are provided. We present light and scanning electron microscope observations on a new species of the diatom genus Sellaphora, Sellaphora wangii Y.Liu & Kociolek, sp. nov., described from Hainan Island, China. This species has a raised conopeum with an axial groove or trough on either side of the axial area containing striae extending into the trough, and round depressions (i.e. pits) on the valve mantle at both apices. Our new species is distinctive and separated from other Sellaphora taxa by a unique combination of features that includes its valve outline, undulate raphe, and bow-tie shaped hymenes of the internal areola openings. The uncertainty and dynamic nature of the classification of Sellaphora prompted a review of the ultrastructural features found in species assigned to the genus. Based on this review, we identify four distinct groups of Sellaphora taxa organized by different combinations of ultrastructural features: stria structure, external and internal openings of the areolae, conopeum, polar bars, and apical pits. A new triundulate naviculoid diatom genus is described from the Western Ghats of Peninsular India and Hainan Province, China. The new taxon, Kulikovskiyia gen. nov. has robust conical spines along its margin and at the apices and the external valve face has longitudinally‐oriented siliceous slat system extending the length of the valve. The external distal raphe ends bifurcate and terminates on the valve face. There appear to be superficial similarities between this Asian genus and species and Playaensis, a genus comprised of two species found only in the western USA. The systematic position of Kulikovskiyia is discussed, and other than noting its similarities to other biraphid naviculoid diatoms due to symmetry features and the position of the raphe, we are uncertain about its systematic placement at finer levels of classification. More than 1500 proturan specimens from Hainan Island are systematically studied. An annotated list of all species of Protura from Hainan Island is provided and their geographical distribution is discussed. The genus Paracondeellum is reported from Hainan Island for the first time, and Paracondeellum paradisum sp. nov. is described. The type species Paracondeellum dukouense (Tang & Yin, 1988) is redescribed based on syntype, and the lectotype and paralectotype are designated. The characters of the genus Paracondeellum are redefined, and the two known species are compared in detail. The Protura fauna of Hainan Island is mainly composed of species from the Oriental region, with 91% of the species belonging to the families Berberentulidae and Eosentomidae. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One new genus and two new species of eriophyoid mites in the tribe Tegonotini from Hainan Island in southern China are described and illustrated. They are: Convexmitrata asperaegen. nov. & sp. nov. found on Byttneria aspera Collebr. ex Wall. (Malvaceae) and Parategonotus hospitaesp. nov. associated with Kleinhovia hospita L. (Malvaceae). Three new species of the genus Flexicrurum Tong & Li, 2007, from Hainan Island, China are described: F. wuzhishanense sp. nov. (♂♀), F. yangjiao sp. nov. (♂♀), and F. qishi sp. nov. (♂♀). A key to males of species of Flexicrurum is provided. Additionally, the female of F. minutum Tong & Li, 2007, is described for the first time. To date, the genus is endemic to Hainan Island, China. A new genus and two new species of the subfamily Diptilomiopinae (Acari: Diptilomiopidae) from China's Hainan Island are described and illustrated. They are Dividilobus parvifolius gen. nov. and sp. nov. on Gnetum parvifolium (Warb.) C. Y. Cheng (Gnetaceae) and Vimola samarangensis sp. nov. on Syzygium samarangense(Blume.) Neotapirissus gen. nov., in the tribe Issini (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Issidae), is described from China, and type species Neotapirissus reticularis sp. nov. (China: Hainan) is described and illustrated. The female internal reproductive organs of the new species are also described and illustrated. Patania clava sp. n. is described from the Diaoluo Mountain of Hainan Island, China. The new species is distinguished from its most similar congener, P. iopasalis (Walker, 1859), by the following features: wingspan 33.0-35.0 mm (vs. 21.0-30.0 mm), ventral cilia of the male antenna as long as the diameter of flagellomere (vs. 1/4), the thick finger-like gnathos (vs. the short broad sheet-like), a long thick needle-like cornutus stretching out from (vs. embedded in) a cluster of spicular cornuti near apex. Gasterapophus, new genus (Opiliones: Laniatores: Epedanidae) and two species are newly described from Hainan Island, China, G. singulus, new species and G. binatus, new species. The genital characters dictate that the new genus should be placed in Epedanidae. The new genus is characterised by: (a) penis simple, ventral plate conspicuously extended, stylar lobe entirely surrounding the stylus, basal sac partly sinking into the truncus; (b) stigmatic area of male with large apophysis; (c) ocularium, scutum and free tergites unarmed; (d) coxa IV widened. Four new species of eriophyoid mites from Hainan, China are described and illustrated. Three new species belong to the subfamily Diptilomiopinae: Acarhis kleinhovia sp. nov., on Kleinhovia hospita L. (Sterculiaceae); Neorhynacus buettnerus sp. nov., on Buettneria aspera Colebr. (Sterculiaceae); Vimola scutellata sp. nov., on Memecylon scutellatum (Lour.) Naud. Maytenus dongfangensis, a new species of Maytenus section Gymnosporia from Hainan Island, China, is described and illustrated.
