In recent years, the utilization of SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicle) have attracted more in the automobile industry owing to their comfortness, efficient performance and practicality. Since the majority of SUVs are operated over the highway environment, the formation of undesirable aerodynamic drag forces severely affects the performance which leads to increase the fuel consumption. Hence, this paper more focuses to reduce the fuel consumption by introducing a modified basebleed method in the SUV car model. A numerical investigation is performed for SUV car models with modified basebleed and without basebleed for the constant operating speed to examine the aerodynamic parameters such as coefficient of pressure (CP), coefficient of drag (CD), coefficient of lift (CL) and coefficient of side force (CS) for the varying yaw angle (ψ). The k-ε turbulence model is utilized to predict the pressure field, velocity field and the formation of wake regions over the SUV car models with modified basebleed and without basebleed. The experimental testing is conducted using low speed subsonic wind tunnel to validate the numerical simulation results of car model for the varying velocity. Research witnessed that the fuel consumption rate is reduced to 4.02% for the SUV car model with modified basebleed than without basebleed, based on the reduction in coefficient of drag (CD). Eventually, the research suggests that implementing modified basebleed at the SUV car model reduces the fuel consumption and aerodynamically supports for better performance.

To improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the aircraft, the article focuses on optimizing the L/D ratio through postponement of flow separation. Elevating the L/D ratio leads to diminished drag and delays stall occurrence at high angles of attack (α). The wing geometry adopts NACA 6-digit airfoils, specifically NACA 63418 and NACA 63415. Various aerodynamic devices are explored for their ability to defer flow separation, with passive aerodynamic devices being the prevalent choice. The primary goal of the research is to integrate rotational thin wire elements into the aerodynamic components of the wing, aiming to diminish drag, amplify lift, and enhance overall aerodynamic performance. The analysis spans a range of α, from 0o to 20o. The study encompasses two scenarios: one without the incorporation of aerodynamic devices and the other with their implementation. Comparative analyses of increases in CL and reductions in CD, with notable improvements observed at a 15o angle of attack, 28.47% increase in CL and 15.07% decrease in CD. Furthermore, the improved performance in the CL/CD, which increases substantially in stall conditions, thereby demonstrating the potential of these aerodynamic modifications to enhance overall aircraft performance.

The continuous demand and fuel depletion in the automobile industries cause a reduction in fuel consumption, especially in a car which is a classic problem to focus on vehicle body design. The formation of drag force in the car body demands tractive force and significantly affects the engine performance and fuel consumption rate which is not advisable for enhancing aerodynamic efficiency. This paper discusses the methodology to reduce the fuel consumption rate in hatchback cars using a ‘basebleed method’. The hatchback car model with and without basebleed is numerically simulated for the various speed to study the aerodynamic coefficients. The numerical simulation is performed with the k-ε turbulence model for predicting the wake region of both car models with and without basebleed. The numerical study witnessed the hatchback car model with basebleed arrived 6% reduction in the coefficient of drag (CD) compared to without basebleed, which results in a reduction of fuel consumption rate of up to 4.33 %. The research evidence that the stability of the car is not affected while using this basebleed drag reduction method and it is studied from the resultant parameters such as coefficient of lift (CL) and coefficient of side force (CS) and for the varying yaw angle (φ). Further, the research recommends the integration of basebleed at the underbody structure in Hatchback cars to improve the engine fuel consumption without affecting its stability.

This paper presents the study of the overall aerodynamic performance of road vehicles and suggests a method to reduce the drag force and also to find the optimum location for placing basebleed in a car using aerodynamic principle. The overall aerodynamic drag force is reduced by eliminating wake region at the rear side of the car and reducing pressure in the front region of the car by delaying the flow separation. This improves the overall aerodynamic performance of the car thereby reducing fuel consumption, as well as improving stability and comfort by the attachment of basebleed. The wind tunnel tests are conducted for a subscale model of car with the basebleed at various locations along the front and rear side of the car in both X and Y directions. The coefficient of drag (CD), the coefficient of lift (CL) and coefficient of side force (CS) for the car is measured to interpret the effect of flow conditions on the car model. The experimental result reveals that the attachment of base bleed at an optimum position in the front and rear side of the car improves its performance and decreases drag coefficient by 6.188 %.
