Affected by decreased production and lower demand for oil and natural gas, Total S.A. reports a 54% second-quarter net profit drop to 2.17 billion euro, and Eni S.p.A.'s reports a second-quarter net profit drop of 76% to 832 million euro. Eni's production fell 2.2% in the quarter, while Total's declined 7.3%. Both companies plan to increase production in the near future as global demand begins to recover.

Bogged down by 942 million euro in charges and inventory changes, French petroleum and natural gas company Total S.A. reports a 2% third-quarter net profit drop to 3.05 billion euro, and a 24% jump in sales to 48.85 billion euro. Despite a drop in production of 5.1%, sales were boosted by increased demand and high energy prices.

Patrick de la Chevardiere, the CFO of Total of France has said that the company is expecting 2010 to be the best for the company in terms of output growth in the last 5-6 years. Total posted a 4% increase in third quarter 2010 output.

French refiner Total CEO Christophe de Margerie stated September 16, 2009 that the company might sell some of its European refining assets to cope with a structural fall in the refining market. Total stated that refining margins remained weak due to low fuels demand and overcapacity.
