This study aimed to identify the motivations that lead a particular sub-group of the millennial generation, namely, university students, to choose mountain areas as tourism destinations both in winter and summer. Through a focus group and a questionnaire survey targeting Italian millennial students (n = 2292), we first identified the main motivations that drive this choice. Second, we identified the level of importance for each motivation during both seasons. The findings revealed that millennials are guided by six main motivations in choosing mountain areas as travel destinations, each of which play different roles according to the considered season. The only exception is represented by the category of food and beverage, which is not influenced by seasonality. The results contribute to the literature on tourism and millennials, giving insight on the motivations that drive millennials' choices. Moreover, the results are relevant from a managerial point of view by providing important indications to managers and policy makers on the determinants of millennials' decisions. This study investigates how non-Ecolabel-certified establishments in the EU view the role of certification in the hospitality industry. The authors identified the strengths and weaknesses of the EU Ecolabel through structured questionnaires sent to both Ecolabel-certified and noncertified establishments in Piedmont, Italy. The originality of the study lies in the fact that the analysis was carried out mainly on establishments that have chosen not to adopt the certification. Their point of view is the most useful for gaining an understanding of the phenomenon, identifying effective initiatives, and investigating customers' perceptions. The findings contribute to the literature by providing a new perspective on non-Ecolabel establishments. From a managerial perspective, the study provides interesting insights for institutions and policymakers regarding the management and potential impacts of ecolabeling in the tourism sector, as well as the important factors to be considered by establishments in their marketing strategies. The eno-gastronomic heritage can be considered an essential resource to create a national appeal and increase the phenomenon of tourism that is strongly tied to food. Indeed, the Italian food products are an important promotion element for Italian territories and a useful tool to increase the tourist offer not only at the national level. Unfortunately, the success of Italian food has created a parallel economy of counterfeit goods that recall an Italian origin and has generated an economic loss for the real Italian food industry. Therefore, in an effort to win the consumers' trust again, the European Union has implemented a complex system of rules/regulations on food safety and food quality issues. Indeed, the EU guarantees high safety standards on foodstuff sold on the European markets through strict production requirements and, at the same time, provides some voluntary quality systems i.e. PDO, PGI etc. There are also various private certification schemes dedicated to the valorization of food products and food service. The "Italian Hospitality-Italian Restaurants around the World" project is inserted in this perspective. It is a certification scheme related to restaurant services abroad and it aims at promoting the traditional Italian food and gastronomy the world over and defending the Italian culture and the consumers from food fraud. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between mood and air travel choices, considering the role of travel significance and the influence that COVID-19 may have on younger generations' choices. Using a mixed-methods sequential exploratory design, a sample of 1,111 Italian respondents, belonging to younger generations is investigated. The data are analysed using a quantile regression with group effects considering attitudes towards COVID-19. The study demonstrates that there is a positive and significant relationship between mood and the number of journeys by air to destinations outside Europe, highlighting the positive moderating effect of the air travel experience and the negative moderating effect of COVID-19.
