This article discusses the importance of trace elements (TE) in metabolic functions and animal health. TE are essential micronutrients for proper body functioning. When TE levels are too low or too high, the body faces difficulties in performing its normal metabolic functions. Some examples of TE and their functions include iron and copper in oxygen transport, calcium and phosphorus in the structural function of bones and teeth, magnesium in nerve impulse transmission, and potassium in osmotic pressure regulation and muscle contraction. Supplementation of cobalt, copper, and selenium has been observed as a dietary strategy to improve the performance of production animals such as cattle and dogs. In summary, TE are indispensable to ensure animal health and well-being. [Extracted from the article]
