Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis Gaertn or Phyllanthus emblica Linn; family Phyllanthaceae) has a recognized history in Indian traditional medicine (Ayurveda). Various therapeutic properties have been attributed to gooseberry as a dietary supplement. Many parts of the plant (fruits, seed, leaves, root, bark, and flowers) possess various activities and are used to treat a range of diseases. This review focuses on the evidence for the cancer-preventive properties of gooseberry, its extracts, and its principal phytochemicals based on studies In Vitro and In Vivo. Most importantly, in multiple rodent models of cancer, treatment with P. emblica was found to prevent tumor incidence, number, and volume at various organ sites. The mechanism(s) implicated in gooseberry-mediated cancer inhibition are diverse and include antioxidants, Phase I and II enzyme modifications, anti-inflammatory action, regulation of the cell cycle, and modulation of oncogenic signaling genes. Studies in humans also indicate that P. emblica can offer various health benefits and synergize with other treatments. This review provides detailed information on the potential use of gooseberry extract as an anticarcinogenic in humans, illuminates the therapeutic applications, and discusses clinical trials.

Diabetes mellitus type II is a metabolic disorder and has become confront for the medical professionals to deal with comprehensively and it becomes thoughtful problem of modern society due to severe long- term health complications associated with it. Though there are abundant hypoglycemic agents available in the market, due to their adverse effects, herbal medicines are becoming more popular with better results and probable null adverse effects on body. Ayurvedic remedies for Diabetes Mellitus are the oldest among all the available therapies. Through various literary reviews Meshshringi (Gymnema sylvestre, Robert Brown) Aamalaki (Emblica officinalis, Gaerthand) Vijaysar (Pterocarpus marsupium, Roxburgh) have shown marked effect in Diabetes mellitus and their properties also shows anti-inflammatory, antioxidant effects also . This article highlights a case of diabetic wound treated with Meshshringyadi- yog with effective results.

On account of the increasing demand for valuable herbal products, an attempt was made to produce a functional fermented Ethanol from Amla. This study investigates the potential of ethanol production from Amla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn). In the present study, Amla juice was extracted, filtered, fermented and it shows a suitable medium for the growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae on yeast peptone dextrose medium for the production of ethanol. Ethanol was separated by fractional distillation and then estimated at 4, 6, 8 and 10 days of the fermentation process by iodometric method for 30oC. The ethanol percentage estimated by the iodometric titration method was high on the 10th day, and it was found to be 1.63 gm% compared to all days. So, the outcome of this study reveals that amla fruit can be used as a crucial constituent for the yield of ethanol with a higher commercial value.

Background The plants Cynodon dactylon (C. dactylon), Emblica officinalis (E. officinalis), Kalanchoe pinnata (K. pinnata), and Bambusa nutans (B. nutans) have been reported to possess diuretic and antiurolithiatic potential against ethylene glycol and ammonium chloride along with in vitro calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystal growth inhibition property. Our previous research publications reported a rich presence of antioxidative phytocompounds like polyphenols and flavonoids in ethyl acetate fractions of these plants. This present study aims to explore antiurolithiatic potential of C. dactylon, E. officinalis, K. pinnata, and B. nutans ethyl acetate fraction following 7 days of sodium glyoxalate treatment on mice. Results Sodium glyoxylate treatment caused significant (P < 0.01–0.001) reduction in the urine magnesium and creatinine and elevation in oxalate, citrate, calcium, and phosphate levels. Ethyl acetate fraction of K. pinnata and B. nutans showed a highly significant antilithiatic effect by increasing urine volume, normalizing disrupted urine parameters, increasing LDH level, and decreasing kidney tissue oxalate content. E. officinalis and K. pinnata ethyl acetate fraction treatment showed a pronounced reversal of tubular dilation and damage of epithelial cell in kidney tissue with very less inflammatory cell infiltration. Conclusion The results signify the protective effect of K. pinnata and B. nutans ethyl acetate fraction rich with polyphenol and flavonoid on glyoxylate induced oxidative cell damage and morphological changes in mouse kidneys.

Introduction: Pregnancy is associated with several trace elements deficiency in developing countries. Supplementation of iron in iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) has several side effects including alterations of serum zinc level. Traditionally, amloki is used as a well known supplement in pregnancy, which is rich in trace elements. Aims were to determine the effects of iron and amloki on serum zinc level in IDA with pregnancy. Materials and Methods: This Prospective, longitudinal and interventional study was done by non blinded, non randomized sampling followed by inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study was performed in the Department of Physiology, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka on 43 pregnant women between 13th to 20th weeks of gestation with IDA from July 2016 to June 2017. They were recruited from Outpatient Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Anaemic pregnant women supplemented with oral iron and amloki were considered as study group (A) and control group (B) were with only iron supplementation for 45 days. Background: Reactive oxygen species have been known to cause cellular damages that have been implicated to be a causal of major diseases; therefore natural antioxidants have shown a significant impact on human robustness. The present study was carried out to appraise the anti-oxidant activities (In- vitro) and their correlation with presence of Flavanoid and Phenolic content in fruits of Terminalia chebula and Emblica officinalis fruit extracts which is common in herbal Kitchen of India. Methods: The 70% extracts of fruits from Terminalia chebula and Emblica officialis were applied for the study of Anti-oxidant activity. Scavenging radical ability of extracts of these extracts were judged by radical like DPPH. Results: The capability of the extracts of Fruits in exhibiting Antioxidative properties follow the sequence of Terminalia chebula > Emblica officinalis. Since the antioxidant activities were studied in comparison with the standards of Flavanoid, Phenolic and Ascorbic acid. The Flavanoid and Phenolic quantity / amount along with subsequent dilution of Ascorbic acid as in case of DPPH radical assay were assessed as 127.60 ± 0.001 mg/ml, 133.00 ± 0.003 mg/ml for Phenolic Content as Gallic acid equivalent per 100 mg of the Fruit extract. Moringa oleifera and Emblica officinalis is used in Indian traditional medicine contains nitrile glycosides and thiocarbamate glycosides which are anti-hypertensive and anti hyperlipidemic activity. Impact of supplementation of Moringa oleifera and Emblica officinalis on anti hyperlipidemic activity of Atherosclerosis patients in Vijayawada hospitals. 60 subjects in the age group of 30-70 years were selected for present study. The drumstick leaves and amla powder was supplemented with meal 10gm for 50subjects per day respectively for a period of 40 days and remaining 10 subjects treated as control. The results showed that administration drumstick leaf and amla powder of 10gm for forty days produces significant (P?0.001) reduction in anthropometric measurements and serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL cholesterol and increase serum HDL cholesterol in experimental and no significant reduction in control group. Moringa olifera leaf and amla powder containing a variety of compounds and greater nutritional significance in the disease condition of atherosclerosis. In the recent times wide use of agrochemicals in agricultural practice has caused severe health hazards to humans while their side effects have damaged the environment also. Endosulfan is an organochlorine insecticide effective against a wide range of pests of cereals, coffee, cotton, fruits, oilseeds, potato, tea and vegetables.

Background: Emblica officinalis Gaertn. which belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae, Terminalia chebula Retz. and Terminalia bellerica Roxb. belong to the family Combretaceae. These are well known medicinal plants with phytochemical reservoir of great medicinal values and possess a vast ethnomedical history. Objective: The aim of the present study is to isolation of major compounds and to evaluate antimutagenic potential of the ethanol extracts of these plants. Methods: The dried fruits of E. officinalis, T. bellirica and T. chebula were powdered and extracted with 95% ethanol. The ethyl acetate portions were chromatographed over silica gel to isolate major compounds. Antimutagenic activity was determined by Ames test using TA98 and TA100 strains of Salmonella typhimurium. Results: Two major known compounds, gallic acid and ellagic acid were isolated from the dried fruits of Emblica officinalis, Terminalia chebula and T. bellirica. All the three extracts counteracted the mutagenicity induced by different genotoxic compounds in a dose dependent manner. Conclusion: This study showed that ethyl acetate portion of three extracts contain two major compounds, gallic acid and ellagic acid which might be responsible for potent antimutagenic activity of these extracts.

Traditional system of medicine have been in vogue since ages. Amla is one of the herbal plant used in Unani medicine having very versatile actions.The word “Amla” is derived from an Arabic word ‘ambalji’ and in Persian it is called ‘amlah’. In english is commonly known by the name of Indian gooseberry. It is used as medicinally since centuries. Each and every part of the Amla tree is used medicinally but more commonly its fruit is used. It is mostly found in tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world. All the information on the plant available in Urdu, Persian, Arabic language in classical Unani literature available in different libraries of India from recent to past were searched, for phyto-chemical and pharmacological activities and computerized databases such as Medline, Pubmed, Ovid SP, Google Scholar and Science-direct were searched. In unani classical texts, the temperament of Amlais mentioned as Barid 1°Yabis 2° and its actions are Qabiz, Muqawwie Meda, Muqawwie Shaar. The chemical constituents like amino acids alanine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, lysine and proline are present in major quantity. Several pharmacological studies have been carried out on it like anti-ulcer, immune modulatory, anti-inflammatory, antitussive and gastroprotective etc. It is used both as single as well as in compound formulations as an main ingredient like Jawarish Amla, Jawarishshahi, Anushdaru and Itrifalat. Through this review an attempt has made to reveal the Unani aspect of Amla and describe Unani pharmacological activities in the light of recent experiemental studies.

We conducted an experiment to evaluate the effect of a polyherbal additive with metabolites such as antioxidants, vitamins, and small hydrolysable tannoids oils on productive parameters and blood metabolites in finishing lambs. Forty male Hampshire × Suffolk lambs (23.79±2.24 kg) were used in a completely randomized experimental design. Treatments consisted of dietary inclusion of a polyherbal additive based on Emblica officinalis and Ocimum sanctum at 0, 5, 10, and 15 g/kg dry matter for 60 d. There were no effects on daily gain, dry matter intake, feed conversion, back fat thickness, and Longissimus dorsi area; however, hot carcass dressing improved linearly as the level of herbal additive supplementation was increased. The antioxidants of the polyherbal additive linearly inhibited lipid oxidation of the meat (24 h; day 10) and improved its water-holding capacity (24 h). Meat lightness after 1 d was reduced linearly, but no changes were detected in other color parameters. Metabolites (glucose, urea, cholesterol) related to energy or protein metabolism were not affected by the herbal additive. Lymphocytes and basophiles were reduced linearly whereas monocytes and segmented neutrophils increased linearly for polyherbal additive. The inclusion of the polyherbal additive does not improve daily gain or feed efficiency in finishing lambs but improves the carcass dressing and antioxidant capacity of the meat.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of a polyherbal mixture based on Withania somnifera, Ocimum tenuiflorum, Tinospora cordifolia and Emblica officinalis, on lamb’s growth and blood metabolites. Thirty-two lambs (initial body weight BW 25 ± 4.1 kg) were randomly assigned to the treatments which consisted of the polyherbal ImmuPlus at dietary concentrations of 0, 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3% of dry matter (DM) for 60 days. There was a quadratic response to polyherbal in average daily gain (p < 0.01) and feed conversion (p < 0.05). The optimal concentration estimated by regression for maximum ADG was 0.14 ± 0.08% DM of ImmuPlus. Ruminal DM digestibility was not affected but pH was reduced linearly (p < 0.05). Ruminal N-NH3 (p < 0.01) and total VFA concentration showed a quadratic increment (p < 0.05) whereas butyrate proportion was increased linearly (p < 0.05). There was no effect in most blood metabolites related to energy metabolism, but uric acid was linearly reduced (p < 0.01) and bilirubin showed a quadratic decrement (p < 0.05). Mean corpuscular haemoglobin (p < 0.01) increased linearly (p < 0.10), lymphocytes and segmented neutrophils showed a quadratic response (p < 0.01) and platelets showed a linear reduction (linear p < 0.05). The inclusion of ImmuPlus improved the daily gain in finishing lambs and feed efficiency at 0.1% DM without altering blood chemistry and blood biometry.

Āmla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn, Family: Euphorbiaceae) is a medicinally important plant indigenous to tropical and sub-tropical regions of South-east Asia. The tree is 5-25 metres tall, deciduous, having deltoid-squamiform leaves and bears pale-green globose fruits 2-4 cm in diameter. In Unani medicine, it is widely used in compound formulations or in raw form in many disorders of central nervous system, gastro-intestinal system, skin, hair, general debility etc. In Ayurveda, it is classified as a rasayana, i.e., drugs which promote longevity and delay ageing. Āmla fruit is one of the richest sources of Vitamin C (478.56 mg/ 100 ml), alongwith important constituents such as gallic acid, ellagic acid, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium etc. recent researches on Āmla have revealed the presence of several biologically active substances with scientifically proven effects as anti-oxidant, anti-ageing, immunomodulatory, memory enhancing, protective towards vital organs such as liver, heart kidneys; anti-depressant, anti-cancer and many more beneficial effects. Most of the experiments have been carried out on Āmla fruit and are dose-dependent. Moreover, no toxic effects have been reported in any of the studies. This review focuses on the various biologically active components of Āmla and its relevance in modern pharmacology.

Emblica officinalis Gaertn. or Phyllanthus emblica Linn., popularly called as Indian gooseberry or Amla, is among main herbal plant in Indian traditional medicine. Different parts of E. officinalis are beneficial for curing various ailments but the fruits especially show tremendous pharmacological and medicinal applications. Phytochemical analysis revealed important bioactive chemical compounds such as tannins, alkaloids, polyphenols, gallic acid, ellagic acid, emblicanin A and B, phyllembein, quercetin, ascorbic acids, vitamins and minerals. Different extracts of amla possess potent antimicrobial activities to counter different bacterial pathogens. Amla phytochemicals also possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, immunomodulatory, hypolipedemic, memory enhancing, anticancer, antidiabetic, antidepressant, anti-ulcerogenic, insecticidal, larvicidal, and wound healing activities. All of these well-established activities can have broad applications in managing most of the diseases affecting human and animal patients. It can either replace the conventional therapeutic agents due to its superior efficacy and lack of side effects or can act an adjunct therapeutic agent thereby enhancing the total efficacy of conventional agents. The biogenic synthesis of nanoparticles from E. officinalis is getting popularity due to the low cost factor along with the enhanced antimicrobial activity of the nanoparticles produced. The current review emphasizes on the phytochemical constituents, mechanisms behind the antimicrobial activity and also briefly summarizes other medicinal and therapeutic usefulness of the E. officinalis.

Background: Common clinical practice of prescribing Iron supplementation for Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in pregnancy is associated with a number of side effects. Emblica officinalis (amloki) is a well known dietary supplement used by traditional practitioners to treat anemia. Objective: To evaluate the effects of oral supplementation of Emblica officinalis on iron status in pregnant women with IDA. Methods: This prospective interventional study was carried out in the Department of Physiology, Dhaka Medical College (DMC), Dhaka from July 2016 to June 2017 on 43 pregnant women aged 18 to 36 years between 13th to 20th weeks of gestation with IDA. They were recruited from the Out-patient department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, DMC Hospital. Among them 24 were supplemented with amloki and iron (IAS) and 19 women received only iron supplementation (IS). Study variables were estimated at the baseline and after 45 days of supplementation. Objective: This study aim was to compare the in vitro antioxidant property of fresh juice and dry powder of Emblica officinalis (EO) by chemical testing and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH) assay and also to observe the in vivo effect of EO fruit dry powder on food intake, body weight, behavior changes, and antioxidant levels in restraint stress rat model. Methods: In vitro study, EO fresh juice 1% v/v and its dry powder form were analyzed for chemical testing and DPPH assay initially. In the in vivo study, 12 adult male Wistar rats were obtained. Initially, baseline parameters (Body wt, food intake, behavior changes, blood levels of superoxide dismutase, and malondialdehyde) and control values were assessed. Later 12 animals were divided into two treatment groups (1 and 2) and pre-treatment was given with dry powder of EO at a dose of 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg orally once a day, respectively. Animals from both the groups were restrained for 2 h/day and the same parameters were analyzed at the end of 24 h and 7 days of stress induction. Results: In vitro study, fresh juice and dry powder preparations of EO were found to be positive for all the four chemical testing. In DPPH assay, dry powder showed better antioxidant activity (97%) than the fresh juice form (57%). In vivo study, significant antioxidant activity was seen at the dose of 500 mg/kg after day 1 and 7 days of stress induction. Conclusion: Dry powder of EO has brought out the reversal of restraint stress-induced behavioral changes and reduced food intake, body weight, and antioxidant levels.

Objective: The objective of the present study was to develop an HPLC analytical method and to perform in vivo study of Emblica officinalis and Aegle marmelos extracts for antioxidant and antidiabetic activity. Methods: The phytochemical analyses, total phenolic content (TPC), TLC, DPPH assay were performed for freeze-dried Emblica officinalis fruits aqueous extract (EOFAE) and Aegle marmelos leaves ethyl acetate extract (AMLEAE). The active constituents present in both extracts were estimated by using HPLC system having Hibar® C18 column [250 x4.6 mm, 5 µm] and UV detector (264 nm). A gradient mobile phase (acetonitrile and water with 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid) was used at a flow rate of 0.8 ml/min. In vivo antioxidant, antidiabetic activity of both extracts was conducted on male albino Wistar rats for 21 d in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats (42 rats; n=6). The antidiabetic activity was measured by blood glucose level and biochemical parameters i.e. total cholesterol, triglycerides and total protein. Oxidative stress was measured by antioxidant biomarkers i.e. SOD, GSH, lipid peroxidation by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances method on the liver of the experimental rat. Results: Tannins, saponins, carbohydrate, glycosides are found in EOFAE; coumarins and flavonoids are found in AMLEAE and quinones, phenols are present in both extracts. The values of TPC present in standard gallic acid, EOFAE and AMLEAE were found to be 485.7, 315.6, 300.7 mgGAE/g, respectively. Rf values obtained by TLC of EOFAE and AMLEAE were found to be 0.41 and 0.50, respectively. The values of % inhibition shown by EOFAE and AMLEAE in DPPH assay were found to be 97.8%±2 and 95.2%±2, respectively. The values of retention time of EOFAE and AMLEAE by HPLC analysis were found to be 4.59 and 5.28 min, respectively. Histopathological examination of the liver was revealed that low dose EOAM (containing of EOFAE 250+AMLEAE 250 mg/kg body weight) administered once a daily for 21 d showed significant activity (P˂0.001) with biochemical parameters and antioxidant biomarkers. Conclusion: The present study showed that the EOFAE and AMLEAE treated group III with (EOAM) low dose of 500 mg/kg body weight has potent antioxidant and antidiabetic activity.

In vitro study the antibacterial activity of the methanolic extracts of dried leaves ofEmblica officinalisare determine by using the Agar cup plate method versus different bacteria such asStaphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli andPseudomonas aeruginosaetc. By blending the methanolic extract ofEmblica officinalis(10 % w/w) into aqueous cream we formulated herbal ointment. The emulsifying agent and simple ointment bases are added in above herbal ointment for increase the antibacterial effectiveness duringin vitroevaluation. Abstract: Ionising radiation has been an important modality in cancer treatment and its value is immense when surgical intervention is risky or might debilitate/adversely affect the patient. However, the beneficial effect of radiation modality is negated by the damage to the adjacent healthy tissue in the field of radiation. Under these situations, the use of radioprotective compounds that can selectively protect normal tissues against radiation injury is considered very useful. However, research spanning over half a century has shown that there are no ideal radioprotectors available. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA or USFDA) approved amifostine, or WR-2721 (Walter Reed-2721) [chemically S-2-(3-aminopropyl-amino) ethyl phosphorothioic acid] is toxic at their optimal concentrations. This has necessitated the need for agents that are safe and easily acceptable to humans. Background: Dietary agents with beneficial effects like free radical scavenging, antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects are being recognized as useful and have been investigated for their radioprotective properties. Studies in these lines have shown that the fruits of Aegle marmelos (stone apple or bael), Emblica officinalis or Phyllanthus emblica (Indian gooseberry/amla), Eugenia jambolana or Syzygium jambolana (black plum/jamun), Mangifera indica (mango) and Grewia asiatica (phalsa or falsa) that are originally reported to be indigenous to India have been investigated for their usefulness as radioprotective agents. Objective: The objective of this review is to summarize the beneficial effects of the Indian indigenous fruits, stone apple, mango, Indian gooseberry, black plum, and phalsa, in mitigating radiation-induced side effects, emphasize the underlying mechanism of action for the beneficial effects and address aspects that merit detail investigations for these fruits to move towards clinical application in the near future. Methods: The authors data-mined Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library for publications in the field from 1981 up to July 2020. The focus was on the radioprotection and the mechanism responsible for the beneficial effects, and accordingly, the articles were collated and analyzed. Results: This article emphasizes the usefulness of stone apple, mango, Indian gooseberry, black plum, and phalsa as radioprotective agents. From a mechanistic view, reports are suggestive that the beneficial effects are mediated by triggering free radical scavenging, antioxidant, anti-mutagenic and anti-inflammatory effects. Conclusion: For the first time, this review addresses the beneficial effects of mango, Indian gooseberry, black plum, stone apple and phalsa as radioprotective agents. The authors suggest that future studies should be directed at understanding the selective radioprotective effects with tumor-bearing laboratory animals to understand their usefulness as radioprotective drug/s during radiotherapy and as a food supplement to protect people from getting exposed to low doses of radiation in occupational settings. Phase I clinical trial studies are also required to ascertain the optimal dose and the schedule to be followed with the standardized extract of these fruits. The most important aspect is that these fruits, being a part of the diet, have been consumed since the beginning of mankind, are non-toxic, possess diverse medicinal properties, have easy acceptability, all of which will help take research forward and be of benefit to patients, occupational workers, agro-based sectors and pharma industries.

Introduction: In almost all Samhitas Jvara chikitsa is described with single or compound herbal drugs.Dhatryadi Churna is one such polyherbal churna formulation indicated in jvarachikitsa. But no data isavailable to know about its efficacy.Aim and Objectives: To review Dhatryadi Churna w.s.r. to its antipyretic activity.Material and Method: Relevant references were reviewed with respect to Dhatryadi Churna describedin Samhitas and various Ayurveda texts such as Brihatrayee, Laghutrayee bhaishajyaratnavali etc. All thereferences were collected and reviewed thoroughly.Observation and Results: Total 7 references with the name Dhatryadi Churna and Amalkyadi churna arerecorded in various Samhitas and Ayurveda texts indicated in jvara chikitsa. Out of the total 5 ingredients,significant antipyretic activity in experimental animals in different dosages found in Emblica officinalis,Terminalia chebula, Piper longum and Plumbago zeylenica.Conclusion: Based onPharmacological properties and experimental studies conducted on individual drugsproved that Dhatryadi churna is a effective antipyretic formulation and can be used safely for treating Jvara.

Here we want to project various aspects and study the traditional herb and try to incorporate them in our daily lives to stay away from diseases and balancing of doshas.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and its associated complications including neuropathy, retinopathy, nephropathy, diabetic wound etc. are major problems all around the globe. Triphala, an ayurvedic formulation consists of fruit powders of Emblica officinalis, Terminalia belerica, and Terminalia chebula. The Triphala nanoparticles (TNp) was formulated, characterized and screened for its antioxidant, anti-diabetic, and antimicrobial potential. TNp was incorporated into medical fabrics and evaluated for its antibacterial potential against E. coli ATCC (25922) and multi drug resistant (MDR) E. coli isolated from diabetic wound. The results suggest that TNp possess antioxidant, antidiabetic and antibacterial activities. In future, TNp incorporated nano biomaterial might be an effective alternate to control diabetes related infection.

Traditionally Emblica officinalis is an effective medicine in ayurvedic system to treat various diseases and hepatic ailments. Malachite green (MG) is a dye, extensively used in textile, paper, leather and confectionary industry. Effectiveness as aquaculture therapeutant, contribute to its addition in list of aquatic toxicant. Semi static bioassay was maintained to assess the efficacy of Emblica officinalis extract as ameliorant in malachite green induced toxicity in Cyprinus carpio. Toxicological investigation comprised of study of alterations in fish demeanor such as opercular movements, air gulping and fin movements (dorsal and caudal) after chronic exposure to malachite green and its restorations on oral supplementation (feed) of plant extract of Emblica officinalis. Observations revealed increased opercular movements & air gulping and reduced fin movements on exposure to dye. However on supplementation with E. officinalis extract behavioural activities were restored near to control fish. From the present investigation it can be concluded that E. officinalis possess potential to restore the altered behavioural activities in C. carpio exposed to sublethal concentration of MG, suggesting efficacy of E. officinalis in combating fish stress against toxicants.

The present study was aimed to evaluate antioxidant activity in hydroalcoholic extract of fruits of Terminalia chebula and Emblica officinalis. Antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined using diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH), NO and Total antioxidant assays. Extracts of both medicinal plant exhibited antioxidant potential but E. officinalis proved more active. The presence of antioxidant activity in the extracts showed that these plants have the potential to be an alternate source of natural antioxidants. In vivo study is needed for successful commercialization and to benefit the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Objective: The study aims at the exploration of calcium oxalate (CaOx) crystal growth inhibition potential of Cynodon dactylon, Emblica officinalis, Kalanchoe pinnata, and Bambusa nutans ethyl acetate fraction rich in polyphenol and flavonoid. Materials and Methods: Ethyl acetate fraction was separated from the hydromethanolic extract of C. dactylon, E. officinalis, K. pinnata, and B. nutans followed by quantitative analysis for total polyphenol and flavonoid content. Ethyl acetate fraction of all the plants were subjected to in vitro screening for the inhibition of CaOx crystals growth induced by sodium oxalate. Results: The results signify rich presence of polyphenols and flavonoids in K. pinnata and E. officinalis ethyl acetate fractions followed by C. dactylon and B. nutans. Ethyl acetate fractions of B. nutans shoot, E. officinalis fruit, and K. pinnata leaf have excellent in vitro CaOx crystal growth inhibition potential based on both the comparative concentration and the time level to achieve IC50. Conclusion: The study outcome substantiates potential in vitro CaOx crystal dissolution and crystal growth inhibition properties of E. officinalis, B. nutans, C. dactylon, and K. pinnata. Rich presence of caffeic acid, ferulic acid, and luteolin in ethyl acetate fraction of B. nutans leaf, and chebulinic acid, chebulagic acid, gallic acid, ellagic acid, and quercetin of E. officinalis may have produced prominent crystal aggregation inhibition response.

The ethnomedicines are being indicated worldwide that consists of different phytochemical constitutes like as alkaloids, saponin, phenols, tannins, flavonoids and carbohydrates so as to not only have biological, physiological and pharmacological activity but also have antioxidant activity for the treatment of stomach, cardiovascular and liver alilments.

Aim: The aim of this article is to review the current literature on the therapeutic uses and efficacy of Triphala. Herbal remedies are among the most ancient medicines used in traditional systems of healthcare such as Ayurveda. Triphala, a well-recognized and highly efficacious polyherbal Ayurvedic medicine consisting of fruits of the plant species Emblica officinalis (Amalaki), Terminalia bellerica (Bibhitaki), and Terminalia chebula (Haritaki), is a cornerstone of gastrointestinal and rejuvenative treatment. Methods: A search of the PubMed database was conducted. Results: In addition, numerous additional therapeutic uses described both in the Ayurvedic medical literature and anecdotally are being validated scientifically. In addition to laxative action, Triphala research has found the formula to be potentially effective for several clinical uses such as appetite stimulation, reduction of hyperacidity, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulating, antibacterial, antimutagenic, adaptogenic, hypoglycemic, antineoplastic, chemoprotective, and radioprotective effects, and prevention of dental caries. Polyphenols in Triphala modulate the human gut microbiome and thereby promote the growth of beneficial Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus while inhibiting the growth of undesirable gut microbes. The bioactivity of Triphala is elicited by gut microbiota to generate a variety of anti-inflammatory compounds. Conclusions: This review summarizes recent data on pharmacological properties and clinical effects of Triphala while highlighting areas in need of additional investigation and clinical development.
