This essay exposes the existence of an alternative archive on the memory of the nineties. Through the analysis of the novels Pim Pam Pum (1998) by Alejandro Rebolledo, La última vez (2007) by Héctor Bujanda, Bajo tierra (2009) by Gustavo Valle (2009) and Valle zamuro (2011) by Camilo Pino, I establish a constitutive uprooting that escape from the nostalgic discourses of political polarization. The definition of the Black Friday Generation is proposed to talk about youth subjectivities that suggest a historical continuity between neoliberalism at the end of the 20th century and the Bolivarian Revolution at the beginning of the 21st century. The article presents a study aimed at analyzing the history of corruption and anti-corruption in Venezuela in 20th century. Topics discussed include presidential slush fund issued in 1919, revolutionary movement started by Venezuelan political party Acción Democrática party (AD) and payments to presidents' allies. It further discusses transfer of public funds, legitimation of presidential discretion, public goods in the country, gray corruption in Venezuela and neopatrimonial mechanism of payments.

According to Fukuyama's theory on the "end of history", after the collapse of Communism and the end of the Cold War, democracy and freedom should have spread throughout the world. However, in Venezuela, from '992 to 1998 democracy changed and weakened. The article focuses on the crises of the two traditional parties - AD and COPEI - that lost their political hegemony after thirty years of domination, and on the rise of the charismatic Hugo Chávez. Considered to be an authoritarian communist by the Venezuelan opposition and a popular leader by American scholars, he is certainly not the perfect example of a democrat Fukuyama had in mind.

The article examines the relationship between the spread of fascist ideology and the Catholic Church immediately following the March on Rome in 1922 up to the beginning of the Second World War in Spain and Venezuela through the Catholic newspapers "El Debate" and "La Religión," respectively. It asserts that an analysis of content related to the Italian government disseminated in these newspapers, among the most prominent Catholic publications at the time, reveal ideological arguments and political actions that defined the relationship between Catholicism and fascism.

The article discusses changes in the Venezuelan higher education system from 1950 to 1998, with a focus on the fields of the natural sciences and mathematics. In particular, it analyzes the social, economic, and political conditions that led to the creation of postgraduate studies in Venezuela. The article explains that graduate degrees in the basic and life sciences, as well as in mathematics, emerged informally in Venezuela after creation of the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC) and formally in the 1970s, 20 years after creation of the Facultad de Ciencias at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV).

The article examines how an economy based primarily on oil revenues and a political system based on pacts between government, business, and labor affected representative democracy in Venezuela from 1958 to 1980. It explains how the democratic regime known as the Pacto de Punto Fijo or "punto fijista," which replaced the dictatorship in 1958, maintained the oil revenue system that preceded it and was able to implement developmentalist and welfare state policies and build consensus among different social classes due to high oil prices at the time.
