As part of ongoing studies on Tunisian Malvaceae, populations of two Hibiscus species (H. Rosa-sinensis and H. Syriacus) and Lagunaria patersonia were discovered in northern Tunisia, representing first records for the national and North African flora. Morphological characters, as well as ecological and chorological data are given. Nomenclatural notes about the names H. acerifolius (= H. syriacus), H. chinensis (= H. syriacus), H. patersonius (basionym of L. Patersonia), and H. rhombifolius (= H. syriacus) are provided, i.e. indication of the holotype for Hibiscus chinensis (van Braam Houckgeest’s illustration), and designation of lectotypes for H. Acerifolius (a Salisbury’s illustration), H. Rhombifolius (Cavanilles’s illustration), and H. Patersonius (Andrew’s illustration). Further illegitimate and invalid names (Althaea frutex, H. floridus, Ketmia syrorum, K. Arborea, and K. Arborescens) are also treated. Como parte de los estudios en curso sobre las Malvaceae de Túnez, se descubrieron poblaciones de dos especies de Hibiscus (H. rosa-sinensis y H. syriacus) y de Lagunaria patersonia en el norte de Túnez, que representan los primeros registros de la flora nacional y norteafricana. Se describen caracteres morfológicos, así como datos ecológicos y corológicos. Se proporcionan notas nomenclaturales sobre los nombres H. acerifolius (= H. syriacus), H. chinensis (= H. syriacus), H. patersonius (basiónimo de L. Patersonia) y H. rhombifolius (= H. syriacus), incluida la designación de holótipo para H. Chinensis (ilustración de van Braam Houckgeest), y designación de lectótipos para H. I here present a study concerning nomenclatural and taxonomical notes on the names Chrysanthemum italicum L., C. achilleae L., C. tanacetifolium Pourr., Pyrethrum cinereum Griseb., P. clusii Fisch. ex Rchb., P. clusii Tausch, P. daucifolium Pers., and P. tenuifolium Ten., all belonging to the critical group of Tanacetum corymbosum. A new infraspecific classification of Tanacetum corymbosum (L.) Sch. Bip. s. l. is proposed recognizing five subspecies on the basis of a morphological study of type material and other specimens. A diagnosic key of the recognized taxa is provided. A nomenclatural change, i.e. T. corymbosum subsp. daucifolium (Pers.) Iamonico comb. nov., is proposed. Lectotypes are designated for the names Chrysanthemum cinereum (specimen preserved at GOET), Chrysanthemum achilleae (Micheli’s illustration), Chrysanthemum italicum (at LINN), Pyrethrum clusii by Rechenbach (Clusius’ image), Pyrethrum tenuifolium (at G) and Pyrethrum clusii by Tausch (Clusius’ image). A neotype was designated for Chrysanthemum tanacetifolium (at P). Se presenta un estudio nomenclatural y taxonómico sobre Chrysanthemum italicum L., C. achilleae L., C. tanacetifolium Pourr., Pyrethrum cinereum Griseb., P. clusii Fisch. ex Rchb., P. clusii Tausch, P. daucifolium Pers. y P. tenuifolium Ten., táxones que pertenecen al grupo crítico de Tanacetum corymbosum. Se propone una nueva clasificación infraespecífica de Tanacetum corymbosum (L.) Sch. Bip. s. l. y se reconocen cinco subespecies sobre la base de un estudio morfológico del material tipo y otros especímenes. Se proporciona una clave de diagnóstico de los táxones estudiados. Se propone también un cambio nomenclatural, i.e. Tanacetum corymbosum subsp. daucifolium (Pers.) Iamonico comb. nov. Se designan lectotipos para los nombres Chrysanthemum cinereum (espécimen conservado en GOET), Chrysanthemum achilleae (imagen de Micheli), Chrysanthemum italicum (en LINN), Pyrethrum clusii de Rechenbach (ilustración de Clusius), Pyrethrum tenuifolium (en G) y Pyrethrum clusii de Tausch (imagen de Clusius). Se designa un neotipo para Chrysanthemum tanacetifolium (en P).

Se analizan los taxones endémicos de Italia pertenecientes a la familia Caryophllaceae, con un total de 92 taxones (aproximadamente el 24.5% del total de Caryophyllaceae italianas), pertenecientes a 13 géneros. Los generos que tienen el mayor número de taxones son Dianthus (27 taxones que representan el 29.35% del total de los endemismos), Silene (26, 28.26%) y Cerastium (10, 10.87%). Los taxones endémicos incluidos en Dianthus representan aproximadamente el 60% del total del los taxones italianos de Dianthus, seguido de Moheringia L. (42,86%), Herniaria L. (36.36%), Gypsophyla L. (33.33%), Scleranthus L. (30%), Silene (26%), Cerastium (23.26%) y Minuartia L. (21.43%). La mayor parte del los taxones se distribuye en el centro-sur de Italia (55.49%), y en Sicilia y Cerdeña (28.14%), mientras los demás taxones se encuentran en el norte (17.37%). La flora de la isla Cerdeña incluye el mayor número de taxones endémicos (26); le seguien en número cuatro regiones que tienen más de 10 taxones [Sicilia (21 taxones), Calabria and Abruzzo (14), Campania (12), y Lazio (11)]. Se indican los tipos de 68 nombres, mientras que los otros 25 necesitan la designación de un lectotipo o un neotipo. Se incluye un cuadro con 32 nombres de posibles taxones endémicos de valor taxonómico dudoso. Italian endemic Caryophyllaceae: a review. A review of the Italian endemic Caryophyllaceae is presented. The list includes 92 taxa (about the 24.5% of the Italian Caryophyllaceae) which belong to 13 genera. The richest genera are Dianthus, Silene, and Cerastium, with 27 (29.35% of the total Italian endemics Caryophyllaceae), 26 (28.26%), and 10 (10.87%) taxa respectively. The endemics Dianthus represents about the 60% of the total Italian Dianthus taxa, followed by Moheringia L. (42.86%), Herniaria L. (36.36%), Gypsophyla L. (33.33%), Scleranthus L. (30%), Silene (26%), Cerastium (23.26%), and Minuartia L. (21.43%). Most taxa occur in central and southern Italy (55.49%), and in Sicily and Sardinia (28.14%), while the remaining ones occur in northern Italy (17.37%). At regional level, the Sardinia flora comprises the higher number of endemics (26); four regions have floras with more than 10 endemic taxa [Sicily (21 taxa), Calabria and Abruzzo (14), Campania (12), and Lazio (11)]. 65 taxa have already been typified, while the other 27 need the designation of one lecto- or neotype. The typification of two names (Cerastium scaranii, and Dianthus paniculatus) was here revised and the names neotypified on specimens kept in M, and NAP. A table with 32 potentially endemic taxa of doubtful taxonomic value is also included. A comprehensive synoptical table including accepted names, basyonims, types, when designated, and regional distribution is include.

The names of the Italian taxa in Cirsium sect. Eriolepis are discussed. The accepted names are: Cirsium echinatum, C. eriophorum subsp. eriophorum, C. eriophorum subsp. spathulatum, C. ferox, C. italicum, C. lacaitae, C. lobelii, C. morisianum, C. scabrum, C. tenoreanum, C. vallis-demonii subsp. vallis-demonii, C. vallis-demonii subsp. calabrum comb. nov., and C. vulgare (= C. crinitum, C. sylvaticum). Four accepted names are typified by specimens preserved at FI (one lectotype), G (one lectotype and one neotype), P (one lectotype), and by illustrations (two lectotypes). Several other heterotypic synonyms of taxa described from Italy are discussed and six of them are typified. A new combination and status are proposed: C. vallis-demonii subsp. calabrum, based on C. eriophorum var. vallis-demonii f. calabrum.

Stellaria ruderalis and S. cupaniana (Caryophyllaceae, Alsinoideae, Alsineae) are recorded from Tunisia for the first time, S. ruderalis being also new to continental Africa. Descriptions, notes on habitat, ecology, and distribution in Tunisia are given. Original photographs together with a key to the Stellaria taxa of Tunisia are also provided. The typification of the name Alsine cupaniana is discussed and a specimen preserved at LY is designated as the lectotype.

International audience; Sixteen new Asteraceae are added to the non-indigenous flora of Tunisia. Six of them (Dimorphotheca ecklonis, Gaillardia pulchella, Gazania linearis var. linearis, Guizotia abyssinica, Rudbeckia triloba and Tithonia diversifolia) are also new for the flora of North Africa. Chrysanthemum morifolium is here first reported for the Mediterranean Basin. Seven genera (Argyranthemum, Bidens, Dimorphotheca, Gaillardia, Guizotia, Rudbeckia and Tithonia) are recorded for the first time for the vascular flora of Tunisia. Most of these species escaped from gardens and pots and became casual along roadsides and/or disturbed areas after cypsela dispersion (except for Chrysanthemum morifolium). Some species, even though appearing to be well established locally and are potentially invasive at a worldwide level, still do not behave so in Tunisia. In addition to the floristic notes, the typification of the names Dimorphotheca ecklonis, Gorteria linearis and Mirasolia diversifolia are discussed.

The Linnaean names Statice aurea, S. cordata, S. flexuosa, S. incana, S. pruinosa, and S. speciosa (Plumbaginaceae) are investigated. Specimens from the Linnaean Herbarium (LINN) are designated as lectotypes of S. aurea, S. flexuosa, S. pruinosa and S. speciosa, and an illustration is designated as lectotype for S. cordata. Finally, the typification of the remaining Linnaean names in Statice is briefly reviewed and discussed.

The census of the loci classici of 1,227 native, non-endemic vascular plants described from Italy is here presented and described. The effective place of publication of accepted names, basionyms and homotypic synonyms were identified and critically verified. The geographic information on the loci classici was excerpted from the protologues, as well as information on typification for the taxa described before 1 January 1958. The names without a holotype are 1,165. For 591 names a lecto- or neo-typification is available in literature, while 572 currently accepted taxa still need a type designation. For ten of these names showing previous ineffective typification, nomenclatural types are designated here ( Allium savii , A. tenuiflorum , Anemone millefoliata , Catapodium tuberculosum , Cynosurus siculus , Filago congesta , Saponaria bellidifolia , Sclerochloa patens , S. zwierleinii , and Vicia leucantha ). A new combination ( Trisetaria aurea comb. nov. ) is proposed. The general picture of the currently accepted taxa of vascular plants described from Italy, including endemics, amounts to 2,631, i.e. about 32% of the native flora currently recorded for the country.

Nomenclatural notes on Malva cretica s.l. (Malvaceae) are discussed. The names Malva althaeoides , M. althaeoides var. hirsuta , M. anodaeformis , M. cretica , and M. cretica var. montana are lectotypified on specimens preserved in the Herbaria BM, G, MA, and P. The names M. hirsuta by Sieber and by Tenore are respectively invalid (Art. 36.1c) and illegitimate (Art. 53.2) according to the Melbourne Code .

As part of the ongoing studies on the genus Polycarpon Linnaeus (1759: 859, 881) (see e.g., Iamonico 2015a, 2015b, 2015c, Iamonico & Domina 2015), and on the Italian loci classici (see e.g., Peruzzi et al. 2015, Brundu et al. 2015, Domina et al. 2016, Di Gristina et al. 2017, Domina et al. 2017, 2018a, 2018b), we present here a note regarding Hagaea alsinifolia Bivona-Bernardi (1815: 7–8) [currently accepted (see Bartolucci et al. 2018) as Polycarpon tetraphyllum Linnaeus (1759: 881) subsp. alsinifolium (Biv.) Ball (1877: 370)].

Original material of the four Senecio taxa described by A. Bertoloni has been examined, and the typification of their names is discussed. A specimen from the Monti Herbarium (kept in BOLO) and iconographies from Bonanni and Bertoloni are designated as lectotypes, whereas another specimen from the Monti Herbarium is selected as neotype. The nomenclature of the names Senecio erucifolius L., Senecio tenuifolius Jacq., Senecio delphinifolius Vahl and Senecio rupestris Waldst. & Kit. is also analysed. The names S. crinitus Bertol. and S. laciniatus Bertol. belong to S. delphinifolius [now Jacobaea delphinifolia (Vahl) Pelser & Veldkamp] and S. rupestris [now Senecio squalidus subsp. rupestris (Waldst. & Kit.) Greuter], respectively, whereas S. erraticus Bertol. and S. praealtus Bertol. are accepted as separate taxa as Jacobaea erratica (Bertol.) Fourr. and Jacobaea erucifolia subsp. praealta (Bertol.) Greuter & B.Nord., respectively.

Nomenclatural notes on the aggregate Polycarpon tetraphyllum (Caryophyllaceae) are discussed. The names Hagaea alsinifolia, H. polycarpoides, Poycarpon colomense, P. diphyllum, and P. floribundum are typified, respectively, on an iconography by Boccone (lectotype), and specimens preserved in PAL (neotype), JE (lectotype), MA (Herbarium Cavanilles, lectotype), and COI (Herbarium Willkomm, lectotype). For the nomenclatural purposes, the names P. bivonae (nom. nov. pro P. polycarpoides), P. herniarioides (holotype in K), P. peploides (nom. superfl. et nom. illeg. according to the Arts. 52.1 and 52.2 of the ICN), P. polycarpoides subsp. catalaunicum (holotype in BC), and P. rotundifolium (holotype in LY-Herbarium Rouy) are also discussed. P. floribundum is a heterotipic synonym of P. tetraphyllum s.s. A new synonym(P. tetraphyllum ¼ P. rotundifolium) and three new combinations (P. tetraphyllum subsp. colomense, P. tetraphyllum subsp. herniarioides and P. tetraphyllum subsp. catalunicum) are proposed according to the current concept in Polycarpon.
