Silver phosphate (Ag3PO4) has excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation, but it has the disadvantages of poor stability and high cost. MoS2QDs/Ag3PO4 composites were successfully prepared by a simple precipitation method. The photocatalytic performance of rhodamine B was studied by simulating its degradation under visible light. MoS2QDs/Ag3PO4-1 composites have shown good photocatalytic activity. Within 4 min, the degradation rate of RhB reached 99.6%, which was due to the accelerated spatial separation of charge carriers by MoS2QDs. The cyclic test results have shown that the composite material has good cyclic stability. After five cycle tests, the activity of the composite remained above 85%. Finally, the experimental data of free radical capture has provided a possible model to explain the degradation mechanism of RhB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The practical fabrication of quantum dot materials, including their size, shape, form, crystallinity, and chemical composition, is a crucial research area in the field of photocatalysis. Quantum dots can effectively enhance the separation and transfer of carriers and expand the utilization of visible light when used in heterogeneous junctions with wide bandgap semiconductors. Additionally, they exhibit excellent photosensitivity properties that significantly improve the material's capacity for absorbing visible light. This paper systematically presents an overview of the outstanding optical properties exhibited by quantum dots based on both domestic and international research on photocatalytic materials. Furthermore, it summarizes the research content, characteristics, and current challenges associated with common types of quantum dots and photocatalytic materials while highlighting their applications in environmental remediation and energy production. Finally, this paper anticipates future trends in the development of photocatalysis by providing valuable insights into more efficient semiconductor materials that are cost-effective yet environmentally friendly. In this paper, molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS 2 QDs) and TiO 2 nanoparticles were used as visible light-responsive photocatalysts. The intensity of the bandgap photoluminescence of quantum dots was reduced after combining MoS 2 QDs with TiO 2. This indicates that the photoexcited electrons in MoS 2 QDs are easily transferred to TiO 2. The combination of MoS 2 QDs and TiO 2 inhibits the recombination of charges and the complexation of photogenerated carriers, thus improving the degradation efficiency of dyes and antibiotics in the photocatalytic process. The cycling results showed that the MoS 2 QDs/TiO 2 composites had good cycling stability. After five cycles of experiments, the composites still maintained similar degradation activity. Finally, a possible mechanism of the photocatalytic reaction of MoS 2 QDs/TiO 2 is proposed. The charge generation and electron-hole separation capability of MoS 2 QDs/TiO 2 in a wide spectral range can effectively separate photogenerated electron-hole pairs and maintain its high redox capability.
