The article focuses on the Virtual Exploration of Underwater Sites (Venus) aimed to make underwater sites accessible with their exhaustive 3-dimension (3D) records for virtual exploration. Discussed are the goals and objectives of Venus, the Pianosa island survey, modeling of the amphorae, the data acquisition and working with the Arpenteur interface and the Venus-PD using the OpenScene-Graph. Results of the Venus project include a series of best practices and procedures in the collection, storage and visualization of underwater archeological data.
