Real-time monitoring and forecasting are essential to ensure an on-time and on-demand supply of water diversion projects. However, water transfer systems currently lack spatiotemporal data in a dense resolution, failing to monitor real-time conditions and test plausible scenarios. To address the problem, this paper proposes a novel digital twin framework. It includes a real-time self-correcting model, which combines (1) a hydraulic solver using the one-dimensional Saint-Venant equations; and (2) a method updating hydraulic states driven by field observed data. This framework consists of four phases: preparation, warming up, tuning, and monitoring and predicting. Particularly in monitoring and predicting, an identification method for diagnosing abnormal events is also proposed as one of the functions of the twin model. The model shows beyond 98% similarity to reality based on the metric similarity (S) proposed in this paper on both of two real-world scenarios: a large flow scenario and a normal one. The deviation is generally lower than 5 cm for water level 2 m3/s for discharge. The abnormal situation diagnosis method also provides timely fault detection for daily scheduling. It is anticipated that this framework can be a powerful tool to estimate current canal states and predict change trends, further ensuring the security and efficiency of operations for large-scale water diversion projects. Reservoir drawdown areas (DAs) can be both important nitrogen (N) sources to river networks and hot spots for N removal from freshwater ecosystems. The net effect of DAs on the N availability in reservoirs within a full hydrological cycle remains unclear. In this paper, the N dynamics in the DA of the Three Gorges Reservoir, Yangtze River, China, are investigated through a combination of discrete and continuous in situ observations and sampling over a span of 2 years, complemented by numerical modeling. We show that the DA is a net source of N to the water column, and that about 30% of the total annual N load released from the DA is mitigated by the sediment through denitrification and capture. The annual net load of the total N from the DA to the reservoir is ca. 0.59 kg per meter along the river, which is on the same order of magnitude as the input load from the density current of the Yangtze River to its tributaries, generally considered to be the primary driver of eutrophication in tributaries. N release in the DA mainly occurs during the drying period, whereas denitrification in the sediment mostly takes place during the flooding period when the oxido‐reducing potential is low. Our findings quantify and therefore clarify the N source/sink dynamics from the DA to the reservoir, offering a new perspective on the importance of DA nutrient loading in decision‐making related to integrated management of inundated lands to alleviate reservoir eutrophication by river damming. Plain Language Summary: Nitrogen (N) is an essential nutrient element, but it can be harmful to water quality in excess amounts. Drawdown areas (DAs) are regions at the edges of reservoirs that are alternately flooded and dried as water levels rise and fall. In some conditions, DAs can cause N pollution by adding N to the reservoirs, while in other conditions, DAs can alleviate pollution by removing N from the reservoir by turning it into a gas through the process of denitrification. The annual balance for these pollution‐driving versus pollution‐alleviating processes across the entire year remains unclear. Based on 2 years of continuous field observations and modeling of N cycling in the DA of the Three Gorges Reservoir, China, this paper finds that annually sediment denitrification and retention in the DA eliminates 30% of the N load released from the sediment itself. N release in the DA mainly occurs when reservoir water level falls as the weather warms up. Denitrification, which turns nitrate into a gas that can leave the reservoir and enter the atmosphere, in sediment under high water levels is the main mechanism that removes N from the DAs. We find that the amount of N released to the reservoir from the DAs is similar in size to the N load received from the upstream river, and thus needs to be considered in reservoir water quality management decisions. In recent years, with the completion of the construction of large-scale hydropower projects in China, a series of engineering geological problems that occurred during the operation of the hydropower station have become an important issue affecting the normal operation of hydropower stations. Landslides on reservoir slopes triggered especially by water storage and other factors related to the construction of hydropower stations seriously affect the normal operation of the hydropower station and lead to other geological disasters. Research indicates that many reservoir-area landslides are triggered by hydrodynamic forces resulting from water level fluctuations in hydroelectric power stations. The Mala landslide of Miaowei Hydropower Station in the Lancang River Basin of China is taken as the engineering example to study the influence of hydrodynamic forces on the deformation characteristics and stability trends of the landslide. This paper explores the formation mechanism and influencing factors of the Mala landslide by conducting a field investigation of the Mala landslide and analyzing the monitoring data. Additionally, this paper also discusses the impacts of water storage, rainfall, and engineering construction on landslide induction. It is considered that the evolution of the Mala landslide from the initial stage of water storage to the current state mainly includes four stages: small-scale bank collapse stage, creep deformation stage, accelerated sliding stage, and uniform sliding stage. Moreover, the changes in the trend of landslide stability are analyzed using the two-dimensional finite element method. The research results provide a valuable reference for understanding the formation mechanism and predicting the deformation of reservoir landslides, which has considerable engineering practical significance. Heavy metal pollution of groundwater will not only destroy the ecological environment but also negatively affect the functioning of the human liver. Tracing the source of groundwater pollution is an important way to protect groundwater resources. FloPy is promoting the use of big data in the groundwater field, especially in groundwater resource planning and management and contaminant traceability. This paper takes Mn as an example and codes a simulation-optimization model for solving the groundwater pollutant traceability problem using FloPy. The Bayesian optimization and strengthen elitist genetic algorithm (SEGA) algorithms are then used to optimize the hydraulic conductivity and pollutant sources in the study area. The results show that the model runs in 411 s, which is an acceptable amount of time spent, the slope of the fitted curve between the model-calculated water level and the actual observed water level is 0.914, and the contaminant traceability results can successfully locate the contaminant sources in real engineering problems. The numerical groundwater flow model and solute transport model can be quickly built, modified, and run by writing code, and can be easily and efficiently coupled with various optimization algorithms with FloPy. The eastern region of the Huang-Huai area is vital for China's coal production, with high water table mining causing significant surface subsidence and the formation of interconnected coal mining subsidence wetlands. Restoring these wetlands is crucial for biodiversity, environmental quality, and sustainable development. Aquatic vegetation plays a crucial role in wetland ecosystems, underscoring its importance in restoration efforts. Understanding and managing water level fluctuations is essential due to their impact on vegetation. This study examines the Qianshiliying coal mining subsidence wetland in the Yanzhou Mining Area, China, with the goal of devising a water level regulation plan based on the minimum ecological water level to improve the growth and recovery of aquatic vegetation. The research delves into landscape ecological restoration techniques for aquatic vegetation in coal mining subsidence wetlands in the eastern Huang-Huai region, emphasizing the importance of water level management. The results reveal that the minimum ecological water level in the Qianshiliying coal mining subsidence wetland is 32.50 m, and an area of 78.09 hectares is suitable for the reconstruction of aquatic vegetation. This paper utilizes lake morphology, minimum biological space, and water level demand methods for aquatic plants in the landscape to promote restoration of coal mining subsidence wetlands. A notable strength of this approach is its ability to quantitatively predict the survival range and area of aquatic vegetation in these wetlands, enabling a more scientifically informed restoration of ecological balance and promoting landscape ecological restoration in the eastern Huang-Huai region. In recent years, due to the changing climate conditions and the continuous deepening of water resource conservation measures, the groundwater level in northern China has gradually risen, leading to the increasingly prominent issue of anti-floating in existing buildings and structures. The development and adoption of reliable anti-floating reinforcement techniques for existing structures are crucial for ensuring the quality of such reinforcements. Therefore, focusing on the limitations of the anchor method for anti-floating reinforcement, this paper proposes a new type of anti-floating prestressed compression anchor that features a full-length anti-compressive steel pipe with a bearing body at the end and uses non-bonding tendons throughout its length. Firstly, the structural form of this pressure-type anchor is introduced; subsequently, combined with the results of on-site pull-out tests of the anchor, an analysis is conducted on the working principle, lateral resistance distribution, and internal force transfer mechanism of the new anti-floating anchor, and its load-bearing characteristics are elucidated. Finally, relying on actual anti-floating reinforcement projects and through numerical calculations, the changes in internal forces under different anti-floating conditions of existing structures reinforced with the new anchor compared to conventional anchors are contrasted. Research findings and engineering practice indicate that this new anti-floating anchor improves the mechanical performance of the grout body of the anchor, solves the water seepage problem at the anchor location of the waterproof slab, effectively suppresses cracking of the foundation waterproof slab after reinforcement, and enhances the anti-floating and durability of existing structures. Among the methods used to describe soil-available water in terms of yield, field water capacity and permanent wilting coefficient were considered as the upper and lower boundaries, respectively, for normal plant growth. This study investigated the soil properties and groundwater resources of the Hailiutu pasture in Inner Mongolia, China. Soil water characteristics and hydraulic conductivity function curves of the pasture soil were measured based on filter paper method. Experimental results showed that air-entry and residual value were determined to be 34.6% and 13.1%, corresponding to the field water capacity and permanent wilting coefficient, respectively, and the available water capacity was 218.0 mm. The downward velocity of the soil wetting front in the silt is 3.0 mm/h. Site investigation revealed that the pasture was a natural capillary barrier, and its critical suction could optimize the upper boundary of irrigation. Considering the limited underground water resources, shallow water level, and the transpiration of Caragana Korshinskii in the pasture, an available drip irrigation method was designed. The spacing between drip irrigation pipes is 60 cm, the spacing between drip holes is 60 cm, the drip irrigation volume per hole is 475.2~838.8 mL/d, the drip irrigation time is 110~200 min at each night. Each hectare pasture exhausts 13.5~22.5 m3 water each day. Field tests showed that the proposed method is feasible and can be used for irrigation in dryland pastures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China has a vast territory and a long history of inland navigation. This paper is based on the Shaying River Shenqiu hub project, and a normal physical model with a geometric scale of 65 was established to simulate the characteristics of water and sediment in the entrance area of the project. By setting different working conditions and measuring and analyzing the velocity flow pattern of the wharf area, planning suggestions for the artificial channel with straight cut-off can be given. Simultaneously, the study simulates the natural sediment deposition state in typical years, observing changes in terrain and evaluating their impact on navigation, thereby validating the rationality of scouring and desilting processes. The research findings indicate that in the reconstructed river wharf's entrance area, the flow velocity is low, and the flow pattern is stable, ensuring that the transverse flow velocities along the recommended route meet the requirements for vessel navigation. Post-scouring from the regulating gate discharge, downstream deposition decreases, with a sediment flushing efficiency reaching 68.5%. Under the specified conditions, the thickness of sediment deposition after scouring does not negatively affect the water level for ships entering or departing the wharf. With the large-scale development and grid connection of renewable energy, hydropower faces more intense and frequent peak shaving and frequency regulation, giving rise to water level fluctuations and frequently forced sluice adjustments at hydropower stations. This paper proposes a model that combines "offline calculation" and "online search". First, feasible sluice opening combinations for different water levels at each hydropower station are calculated offline, and a sluice operation strategy table is constructed. Subsequently, an optimal sluice operation strategy is searched online according to the real-time water level and various regulatory requirements. As an example, we select three hydropower stations in the middle reach of the Dadu River in China, namely, Pubugou, Shenxigou, and Zhentouba. The results show that the total number of adjustments of the sluices of the cascade hydropower stations was reduced from 1195 to 675, a reduction of 43.5%, and the leading hydropower station, Pubugou, met water level control requirements, whereas the fluctuations in the water level of the two downstream daily regulating hydropower stations, Shenxigou and Zhentouba, were reduced by 1.38 m and 0.55 m, respectively. Due to the different design standards of urban drainage and water conservancy facilities, numerous coordination and linkage issues arise when confronting extreme rainfall. In this paper, three clustering methods were used to cluster rainfall events, and the results demonstrate that the dynamic time warping-hierarchical clustering algorithm (DTW-HCA) effectively captures the temporal similarity of time series. Then, the Pilgrim and Cordery rainfall distribution method was utilized to extract the characteristics of eight clusters of rainfall events, and eight kinds of rainfall patterns were obtained. Last, after importing the rainfall patterns into the MIKE model of Qingshan Lake to conduct flood simulations, the impacts of different rainfall patterns on municipal systems and water conservancy systems were assessed by the depth and area of urban waterlogging, as well as the water levels and discharge of rivers. Based on this, three rainfall patterns are proposed as a designed rainfall pattern (DRP), an extreme rainfall pattern for urban drainage facilities verification (ERPUDFV) and an extreme rainfall pattern for water conservancy facilities verification (ERPWCFV), which aim to provide a reference basis for designing region-specific extreme rainfall patterns, as well as the verification of urban drainage and water conservancy facilities. The security of water resources is of great importance to long-term sustainability. In order to better ensure the security of water resources, a significant link is to conduct water resources security evaluation, which should be considered from many perspectives as it involves natural reserves, social production, the efficiency of use, and environmental protection. In this paper, a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process sort (AHPSort) II-entropy weight (EW) method for regional water resources security evaluation is proposed based on the security of visible water and virtual water. Firstly, this paper takes into account the criterion of efficiency of water use in addition to two other criteria of quantity of water resources, pressure on water resources to establish a comprehensive water resources security evaluation system. Secondly, a combination method of hesitant fuzzy language judgment and entropy weight is employed to obtain the weight of each indicator. Thirdly, AHPSort II is used to classify the security levels of the evaluated regions, in which the security levels of regional water resources are divided into five levels. Furthermore, a case study on the cities of Hubei province, China, is conducted to show the applicability of the proposed method, the effectiveness, and reliability of the method are then verified by being compared with a subjective method and an objective method as well as sensitivity analysis. Due to the increasingly serious water shortage in China, water conservation becomes more and more important. This paper analyzes the amount of water consumption in every link of the goods supply to explore the water conservation feasibility in every link. This paper establishes an EIO-LCA model based on the life cycle assessment method for water consumption from supply chains in various sectors, and decomposes the water footprint of the inter-sector supply chain into six levels and calculates the water consumption at each level. The results show that the total water footprint of China's supply chain increases by 6.5% from 2007 to 2017; industrial sector is the core sector for indirect water footprint consumption. China is an importing country of virtual water, imported intermediate products are the main source of imported virtual water and re-exported products account for an increasing proportion of exported virtual water. Water level is an important indicator of lake hydrology characteristics, and its fluctuation significantly affects lake ecosystems. In recent years, deep learning models have shown their superiority in the long-time range prediction of hydrology processes, while the application of deep learning models with the attention mechanism for lake water level prediction is very rare. In this paper, taking Poyang Lake as a case study, the transformer neural network model is applied to examine the model performance in lake water level prediction, to explore the effects of the Yangtze River on lake water level fluctuations, and to analyze the influence of hyper-parameters (window size and model layers) and lead time on the model accuracy. The result indicated that the transformer model performs well in simulating the lake water level variations and can reflect the temporal water level variation characteristics in Poyang Lake. In the testing stage, the RMSE values were recorded in the range of 0.26–0.70 m, and the NSE values are higher than 0.94. Moreover, the Yangtze River inflow has a great influence on the lake water level fluctuation of Poyang Lake, especially in flood and receding periods. The contribution rate of the Yangtze River in RMSE and NSE is higher than 80% and 270%, respectively. Additionally, hyper-parameters, such as window size and model layers, significantly influence the transformer model simulation accuracy. In this study, a window size of 90 d and a model layer of 6 are the most suitable hyper-parameters for water level prediction in Poyang Lake. Additionally, lead time may affect the model accuracy in lake water level prediction. With the lead time varied from one to seven days, the model accuracy was high and RMSE values were in the range of 0.46–0.73 m, while the RMSE value increased to 1.37 m and 1.82 m with the lead time of 15 and 30 days, respectively. The transformer neural network model constructed in this paper was the first to be applied to lake water forecasting and showed high efficiency in Poyang Lake. However, few studies have tried to use transformer model coupling with the attention mechanism for forecasting hydrological processes. It is suggested that the model can be used for long sequence time-series forecasting in hydrological processes in other lakes to test its performance, providing further scientific evidence for the control of lake floods and management of lake resources. Landslide prediction is important for mitigating geohazards but is very challenging. There are many landslides in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, which is in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River Basin in China. For the riverside landslide, the fluctuation of reservoir water level and rainfall are the main external triggering factors controlling the deformation of landslides. In this paper, the Bazimen landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, which has a typical "step-like" behavior, was taken as an example, and a new method of landslide displacement prediction (VMD-FOA-SVR) was proposed. First, 9 triggering factors including the fluctuation of reservoir level and rainfall were extracted. Then, the displacement of ZG110 and triggering factors are decomposed by Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) based on the time series analysis of landslides. Last, the trend term displacement was trained and predicted by one-dimensional cubic subsection functions, and FOA-VMD models were utilized to train and predict the periodic and random term. Results show that the prediction model established in this paper has achieved good accuracy in the total displacement of ZG110, which can effectively improve the prediction accuracy, and has high practicability and application value in the study of landslide displacement prediction. Marsh wetlands are significant ecosystems located between land and water bodies which can both protect species diversity and provide habitats. Changes in the hydrological situation of marsh wetlands as a result of climate change and human activities have led to the degradation of wetland landscapes. Taking the Honghe National Nature Reserve (HNNR) in Heilongjiang Province, China, as an example, this paper gathered information on the reserve's wetland landscape before and after dam construction. The information was obtained using field survey data and a random forest classification method based on Landsat data powered by the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud platform. Then, on the basis of the water level data and the digital elevation model, the wetland landscape dynamics of HNNR under three water level conditions were simulated. The findings were as follows: (1) From 1998 to 2008, the area of marsh and meadow had a downward trend, while the area of forest, farmland and water showed a gradual and upward trend; a marked rise in the area of marsh and a continued rise in the area of forest, farmland and water, and a sharp decline in the area of meadow during 2008 to 2018 was observed. (2) There was a significant increase in the area of marsh under the 20 and 40 cm water level simulation scenarios, with a decrease in the number of patches, and an increase in the aggregation index with rising water levels; in contrast, when the water level rose to 60 cm, the area of marsh and the number of patches decreased, but the aggregation index continued to increase. (3) The correlation between wetland landscape and the water level was a nonlinear one. The area of marsh increased and then decreased with increasing water level, reaching a maximum at the 40 cm water level; therefore, 40 cm was the optimal water level regulation scenario. Hydrological processes are the most fundamental ecological processes in marsh wetlands. Understanding the scientific pattern of the spatial pattern characteristics of species as a function of water level environment is important for scientifically guiding the restoration of marsh vegetation. Morphological processes in sand‐bed braided rivers are highly complicated and dynamic, and it is challenging to fully comprehend and predict them quantitatively or even qualitatively. In this paper, we report the application of a physics‐based model with a single sediment fraction (D50 = 0.23 mm), based on field data, to simulate the morphodynamic processes of a large‐scale braided system in a wide valley of the middle Yarlung Tsangpo River in China. The model is capable of reproducing the evolution of large braided patterns at both microscopic and macroscopic scales, and simulating the formation of a high‐intensity braided reach from an initial lateral flat bed under lateral valley confinement. A narrow strip zone of braided corridor presents long‐term concentrated anabranches in the wide valley reach. Moreover, sensitivity analyses suggest that physics‐based modelling can simulate the multi‐thread river pattern even with relatively coarse grids and a large morphological acceleration factor. The model results show that active riverbed movement occurs and additional chutes are encouraged during flooding, while rising water level makes subchannels merge so that the statistical braiding index decreases. Conversely, only about 40% of the total channels are active in transporting sediment at low‐discharge stages, resulting in a local and slow bed scouring. The planimetric confinement of width variations and valley curvatures acts as a primary control on the local braided corridor and the forced bar assemblages. Width variations restrict the section‐average stream power for a given discharge event, while valley curvatures regulate velocity distribution through several control points. Moreover, the activities of riparian vegetation and sandstorm can interfere with the ability of rivers to braid in the corridor area, which requires much more attention in the follow‐up research. Navigation control system is an important navigation building of inland-river in China. Because of its special semiclosed structure, when the efficiency of the mutation control system is low, the ship system cannot identify the ship, which may endanger the life safety of the crew and cause water traffic accidents. Based on catastrophe control and intelligent sensor, this paper studies the spatial distribution and fluctuation mechanism of risk in the ship traffic system, constructs a catastrophe control model, and combines with intelligent sensors to identify the spatial distribution and fluctuation of risk in ship traffic. In this paper, a typical navigation control system of inland-river is selected as the research object, and the three-dimensional calculation model of the ship traffic system is established. The numerical simulation of catastrophe control and intelligent sensor in ship traffic systems under different ventilation conditions and the navigation water level is carried out by using computational fluid dynamics method, and the spatial distribution and fluctuation mechanism of ship traffic systems are analyzed. The results show that the maximum variation of sensitivity decreases monotonously with the decrease of the plate angle. When the other design parameters of the sensor remain unchanged, the maximum variation of sensitivity reaches the minimum when the plate angle is 10° which indicates that a small plate angle is helpful to reduce the eccentricity error. When the pitch increases from 56.32 mm to 98 mm, the maximum change of sensitivity decreases fastest, and the decrease trend of the maximum change of sensitivity slows down. In the range of 380 mm pitch, the maximum change of sensitivity decreases monotonously with the increase of pitch, which indicates that increasing the properly pitch is helpful to reduce the eccentricity error. This paper explores the deformation behaviour of 1# toppling rock slope, located on the right bank of the Lancang River upstream of Huangdeng Hydropower Station in China. Field monitoring data show that the surficial and deep displacements of the toppling rock slope increase greatly during the second stage of the impoundment period. The deformation of the toppling rock slope in the lower part is generally larger than that in the higher part, and the displacement near the dam side is larger than that farther from dam. Furthermore, the horizontal deep displacement decreases with increasing depth of the slope. Based on the measured displacements of the toppling rock slope, the grey relational analysis (GRA) method is used to explore the correlations between the slope displacement rate and the relevant influencing factors, including rainfall, water level fluctuation, time and air temperature. The results show that the main control factors influencing the slope displacement rate are the water level fluctuation followed by rainfall. The findings may suggest that the 1# toppling rock slope has the potential of hydrodynamic instability, and the water level fluctuation caused by the reservoir operation should be fully concerned to avoid the instability of the toppling rock slope. Landslide failure near a reservoir generates impulse waves, greatly increasing casualties and property losses. This paper presents a field investigation and potential impulse wave simulation analysis of the Wulipo (WLP) landslide, which deformed after the initial impoundment of the Baihetan Hydropower Station, China. According to geological surveys, the WLP landslide is a weak base-type, weathered, fragmented rockslide with soft rock in the lower portion and hard rock in the upper portion. The deformation and failure mechanism under the action of reservoir water consist of compression, fracturing, and shearing. The periodic fluctuation of reservoir water may cause overall high-speed slip failure of the WLP landslide. According to the inferred failure mode of the WLP landslide, the impulse waves caused by the overall failure of the landslide at the highest (825 m) and lowest (765 m) water levels are predicted. Due to the significant height difference between the center of gravity of the landslide and the reservoir water level, the wave height and fluctuation degree of the overall failure of the WLP landslide for 765 m are significantly greater than those for 825 m. However, the wave flood area for 825 m is larger than that for 765 m. Although the impulse waves triggered by the overall landslide at either water level will not destroy the nearby Menggu community, at 765 m, impulse waves will overflow the bridge deck of Ganhu Road. Therefore, engineering measures such as reducing the landslide volume can lower the secondary disaster risk posed by WLP landslides. Parallel hydropower systems encounter a high risk of spillage in flood periods. Therefore, controlling spillage should be considered when hydropower systems increase power generation and satisfy power grid demand. To meet multiple operation targets, an effective operation method needs to precisely control the reservoir level and quickly adjust the power schedule based on real-time load changes. In this paper, an optimal operation method for parallel hydropower systems combining reservoir level control and power distribution is proposed. The method generates reservoir level control rules using a multi-objective simulation method for no gird demands operation. It obtains a power distribution schedule considering spill risk and non-storage losses for gird demands. Taking a parallel system in southwest China as an example, the results show that the method can produce an annual power generation of 55.2 billion kWh, which is a 6.1% improvement compared to regular method. Moreover, it can precisely control the daily water level and quickly adjust power distribution. Total phosphorus (TP) concentration is high in countless small inland waterbodies in Hubei province, middle China, which is threating the water environment. However, there are almost no ground-based water quality monitoring points in small inland waterbodies, because the cost of time, labor, and money is high and it does not meet the needs of spatiotemporal dynamic monitoring. Remote sensing provides an effective tool for TP concentration monitoring spatiotemporally. However, monitoring the TP concentration of small inland waterbodies is challenging for satellite remote sensing due to the inadequate spatial resolution. Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) have been applied to quantitatively retrieve the spatiotemporal distribution of TP concentration without the challenges of cloud cover and atmospheric effects. Although state-of-the-art algorithms to retrieve TP concentration have been improved, specific models are only used for specific water quality parameters or regions, and there are no robust and reliable TP retrieval models for small inland waterbodies at this time. To address this issue, six machine learning methods optimized by intelligent optimization algorithms (IOA-ML models) have been developed to quantitatively retrieve TP concentration combined with the reflectance of original bands and selected band combinations of UAV multispectral images. We evaluated the performances of models in terms of coefficient of determination (R2), root mean squared error (RMSE), and residual prediction deviation (RPD). The results showed that the R2 of the six IOA-ML models for training, validation, and test sets were 0.8856–0.984, 0.8054–0.8929, and 0.7462–0.9045, respectively, indicating the methods had high precision and transferability. The extreme gradient boosting optimized by genetic algorithm (GA-XGB) performed best, with the highest precision for the validation and test sets. The spatial distribution of TP concentration of each flight derived from different models had similar distribution characteristics. China has planned and built several world-class cascade high dams in Jinsha River, Dadu River, Lancang River, and Yarlung Zangbo River. The complex geological conditions in the reservoir area and numerous large-scale landslide bodies make the potential disaster risk of overflowing and cascade dam failure caused by landslide-generated tsunami under increasing severe situations. However, the study on describing and predicting the complex dynamic processes of generation, propagation, overflowing, wave setup, and the interaction between tsunami and lakeshore has not been systematically carried out. Based on the high-order Boussinesq-type equations, the development of the dynamic system of tsunamis in lakes coupled with the landslide process is realized using the finite volume method in this paper. To verify the accuracy and reliability of the study, the Xiluodu Reservoir is selected as the object to simulate the potential landslide-generated tsunamis. The factors such as the generation and propagation of tsunamis, dam overflowing, and wave setup in the downstream river are quantitatively evaluated and analyzed. The constructed landslide with a total volume of 24×106 m3 generates a near-field wave amplitude of about 28 m. The maximum wave run-up height is about 95 m, the volume of the dam overflowing water up to 2.13×106 m3, and the maximum wave height above the dam crest presents an M-shaped distribution. This LGWs event raises the downstream water level by nearly 40 m. The results show that the risk of landslide-generated tsunamis in the reservoir area in China cannot be ignored. The developed Boussinesq-type equations coupled with the landslide dynamics can simulate the whole process of generation, propagation, runup, and estimating the overflowing water volume of the tsunamis in the lake, laying a foundation for the quantitative risk assessment of tsunamis in lakes of high cascade dams in China. Landslides along the Three Gorges Reservoir in China pose a threat to coastal residents and waterway safety. To reduce false positive misjudgments caused by a sudden local change in the landslide deformation curve, in this paper, we propose an effective method for predicting the deformation trend of reservoir bank landslides. We take reservoir bank landslides in the Wanzhou District of the Three Gorges Reservoir area as the research object. The Time-Series Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) method and 62 Sentinel-1A images from 2018 to 2022 were selected for landslide deformation monitoring, and the Hurst index was calculated to characterize the deformation trend. Furthermore, we propose a method for predicting the deformation trend based on the statistical distribution of deformation rates and the physical significance of the Hurst index. After the field survey and Global Positioning System (GPS) verification, the Time-Series InSAR results are shown to be reliable. We take the Sifangbei landslide as a representative case to analyze the validation results. It is found that the determined Sifangbei landslide deformation trend is consistent with the conclusions for the region. In addition, the deformation trend of a reservoir bank slope has obvious spatial and temporal differences. Changes in the reservoir water level and concentrated rainfall play roles similar to those of catalysts. The proposed method, involving the combination of Time-Series InSAR and the Hurst index, can effectively monitor deformation and predict the stability trend of reservoir bank landslides. The construction of large-scale hydropower stations could solve the problem of China's power and energy shortages. However, the construction of hydropower stations requires reservoir water storage. Artificially raising the water level by several tens of meters or even hundreds of meters will undoubtedly change the hydrogeological conditions of an area, which will lead to surface deformation near the reservoir. In this paper, we first used SBAS-InSAR technology to monitor the surface deformation near the Xiluodu reservoir area for various data and analyzed the surface deformation of the Xiluodu reservoir area from 2014 to 2019. By using the 12 ALOS2 ascending data, the 100 Sentinel-1 ascending data, and the 97 Sentinel-1 descending data, the horizontal and vertical deformations of the Xiluodu reservoir area were obtained. We found that the Xiluodu reservoir area is mainly deformed along the vertical shore, with a maximum deformation rate of 250 mm/a, accompanied by vertical deformation, and the maximum deformation rate is 60 mm/a. Furthermore, by analyzing the relationship between the horizontal deformation sequence, the vertical deformation sequence, and the impoundment, we found the following: (1) Since the commencement of Xiluodu water storage, the vertical shore direction displacement has continued to increase, indicating that the deformation caused by the water storage is not due to the elastic displacement caused by the load, but by irreversible shaping displacement. According to its development trend, we speculate that the vertical shore direction displacement will continue to increase until it eventually stabilizes; (2) Vertical displacement increases rapidly in the initial stage of water storage; after two water-storage cycles, absolute settlement begins to slow down in the vertical direction, but its deformation still changes with the change in the storage period. Landslides are one of the extremely high-incidence and serious-loss geological disasters in the world, and the early monitoring and warning of landslides are of great importance. The Cheyiping landslide, located in western Yunnan Province, China, added many cracks and dislocations to the surface of the slope due to the severe seasonal rainfall and rise of the water level, which seriously threaten the safety of residents and roads located on the body and foot of the slope. To investigate the movement of the landslide, this paper used Sentinel-1A SAR data processed by time-series interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technology to monitor the long-time surface deformation. The landslide boundary was defined, then the spatial distribution of landslide surface deformation from 5 January 2018 to 27 December 2021 was obtained. According to the monthly rainfall data and the temporal deformation results, the movement of the landslide was highly correlated with seasonal rainfall, and the Cheyiping landslide underwent seasonal sectional accelerated deformation. Moreover, the water level change of the Lancang River caused by the water storage of the hydropower station and seasonal rainfall accelerates the deformation of the landslide. Global warming has changed the thermal and dynamic environment of climate effects, further exacerbating the uneven distribution of water in China within the year, and the threat of drought will continue to intensify. Flood control and drought resistance are equally important at present. How to reasonably utilize the flood control capacity of reservoirs and raise the flood control level is the key to alleviating the supply-demand contradiction of water resources in China. In the face of new situations, combining the existing operation regulations of the Three Gorges Reservoir and long series of historical runoff data, this paper takes the Three Gorges Reservoir as the object and formulates different flood control level schemes to analyze the benefits and risks of raising the flood control level of the Three Gorges Reservoir. The results indicate that relying on the current forecast level and the joint operation of upstream reservoirs, the flood control risk of the Three Gorges Reservoir flood control level rising to 155-157 m is controllable. It will not lower the flood control standards of Jingjiang and increase the risk of backwater flooding in the reservoir area. When the flood control level of the Three Gorges is raised to 153 m, the average annual power genertion reached its maximum value of 102.9 billion kWh, an increase of 16.7% compared to the initial design value. Consistent with years of statistical law, the Three Gorges Reservoir reaches its maximum power generation capacity in both wet and normal years when the flood control level increases to 153 m. Higher flood control level in dry years, resulting in better power generation efficiency. The flood control benefits are negatively correlated with the flood control level, but the average annual flood detention volume of different schemes varies by 1.5 billion m3. It has changed little. The benefits of water resources are positively correlated with the flood control level. The starting water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir increases synchronously with the rise in the flood control level. When the flood control level rises to 147 m, the full storage rate of the Three Gorges Reservoir can reach 100% by the end of October. For every 1m increase in flood control level, the average annual outflow of water during the storage period can increase by about 500 million m3. Relying on the current forecast level and the joint operation of upstream reservoirs, the flood control risk of the Three Gorges Reservoir s flood control water level rising to 155- 157 m is controllable. Objectives: Due to the joint constraints of boundary conditions, including seabed topography, driven water level at open boundary (DWLOB) and bottom friction coefficient (BFC), the accuracy of the tidal numerical modeling in coastal and offshore waters is relatively low. Methods: This paper intends to synchronously optimize the multiple boundary conditions, including seabed topography, DWLOB, and BFC, to improve the accuracy of the tidal numerical modeling in China’s coastal and offshore waters for the hydrographic surveying and mapping. This paper simulates the tidal model of Haizhou Bay of the Yellow Sea in China, using a two-dimensional tide numerical model (2D-MIKE21) and based on the synchronously optimized boundary conditions. The water depth with higher resolution and accuracy than the charted depth is used as the seabed topography. The DWLOB is calculated from 12 tidal constituents of the regional tidal model of China seas(CST1). The calculation of the BFC takes into account the spatial variation of water depth. Results: For validation, we compare the simulated model with the 1-year tide tables from 6 tide gauges in Haizhou Bay and the CST1 model at 24 randomly selected points, and get the total root sum squares of the 12 tidal constituents of 5.52 cm and 7.10 cm, respectively. The simulated tide model and CST1 are also compared with the 1-month observations at two tide gauges in Haizhou Bay, and the former has a smaller mean square error than the latter. Conclusions: The proposed strategy provides a new method for tidal numerical modeling in coastal and offshore waters. This study also shows that it is feasible to obtain the astro-meteorological constituent Sa by tidal numerical modeling. It should be noted that, the wind effect is also not considered in this study due to its strong randomness and the difficulty in obtaining data for one year. We can use the simulated water level heights and the short-term wind velocity and direction as the better open boundary and initial conditions to carry out the short-term tidal modeling in coastal and offshore waters, which can generate the residual water level or storm surge. The reservoir water level fluctuation zone (WLFZ) is a new and fragile ecosystem that is gaining attention with the construction of large and medium-sized hydropower plants. Compared to the natural riparian zone, it has a greater drop in water level, longer inundation time, more intense impact from alternating wet and dry conditions, and a wider impact on ecological security. The Jinsha River basin is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in China, and several world-class large-scale hydropower projects with dam heights over 100 m have been built, forming a large area of reservoir WLFZ, however, due to the short time since their construction, there are few related studies. In this paper, fixed sample plots were set up in the typical WLFZs of each large reservoir in the Jinsha River basin. In response to the problem of the precipitous terrain and poor accessibility of the Jinsha River basin, a combination of small UAV surveys and field research in July 2020 was used to draw vegetation cover maps and extract topographic data for each site, and quantitatively analyse the community composition, dominant species types, area, coverage, spatial distribution patterns and environmental factors of tolerant vegetation using spatial superposition analysis, neural network models, landscape pattern indices and typical correlation analysis. The results showed that the original drought-tolerant vegetation in the arid river valley WLFZ has evolved into amphibious herbaceous vegetation, with trees and shrubs disappearing and species composition tending to be simpler. 44 species of plants, mainly in the Asteraceae and Gramineae families, were extant, 61% of which were also reported in the Three Gorges Reservoir WLFZ. The water level variation showed convergence in the natural screening process of suitable species in the WLFZ. Moreover, even in the dry valley WLFZs, flood stress showed a more significant filtering effect on vegetation species than drought stress. The vegetation in the WLFZ showed an obvious band-like aggregated distribution along the water level elevation gradient, and the vegetation coverage along the flooding gradient is as follows: upper part of the WLFZ >> middle part > lower part, and mainly concentrated in the gentle area with slope less than 35°. Flooding stress, drought stress and soil substrate deficiency were the main limiting factors for vegetation recovery in the WLFZ. The vegetation restoration of the WLFZ should be adapted to local conditions, and the dominant role of native species should be emphasized. At the early stage of the restoration of the WLFZ, native species should be selected for artificial planting to accelerate the formation of vegetation cover, and gradually advance downwards along the gradient of water level elevation, while for areas of the WLFZ with slopes greater than 35° and large topographic relief, biological engineering measures should be used to help plant establishment, and after a certain stable cover has been formed, natural restoration should be the main focus. Changes in the opening of gates in open channel water transfer projects will cause fluctuations in the water level and flow of adjacent open channels and thus bring great challenges for real-time water level prediction. In this paper, a novel slope-similar shape method is proposed for real-time water level prediction when the change of gate opening at the next moment is known. The water level data points of three consecutive moments constitute the query. The slope similarity is used to find the historical water level datasets with similar change trend to the query, and then the best slope similarity dataset is determined according to the similarity index and the gate opening change. The water level difference of the next moment of the best similar data point is the water level difference of the predicted moment, and thus the water level at the next moment can be obtained. A case study is performed with the Middle Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project of China. The results show that 87.5% of datasets with a water level variation of less than 0.06 m have an error less than 0.03 m, 71.4% of which have an error less than 0.02 m. The natural oases in the plain area of the northwest inland basin strongly depend on the groundwater depth. With the overexploitation and utilization of groundwater, natural oases are faced with the problems of serious degradation and rehabilitation. How to evaluate the degree of the degeneration crisis of groundwater ecological function has become one of the key scientific and technological problems to be solved. In this paper, the Shiyang River basin of Gansu Province was selected as a typical research area. The remote sensing interpretation, groundwater–soil ecology comprehensive investigation, and groundwater in situ monitoring were adopted to carry out the research. Based on the correlation analysis method of natural ecology and groundwater, the interactive relationship between the natural ecological environment and groundwater depth in different ecological types of the region were studied: (1) under the arid climate condition in northwest China, the relationships between the ecological situation and the groundwater depth in different ecological types of the region were obviously different, and as a result, the optimal or limit ecological water level of groundwater in different ecological types was also different; (2) in the natural wetland area, the suitable ecological water level of groundwater was between 0.5 m to 1.5 m, and the limit ecological water level was 8.0 m; in the natural vegetation area, the suitable ecological water level was between 3.0 m to 5.0 m, and the limit ecological water level was 10.0 m; and in the farmland area, the suitable ecological water level was between 2.0 m to 5.0 m, and the limit ecological water level was 2.0 m; (3) in order to effectively protect the natural ecology in different ecological types, a five-level early warning and control index system should be established for the ecological function degeneration crisis of groundwater. Spillway is an important flood control facility for hydraulic architectures, whether the design and layout of the spillway are reasonable or not can directly affect the safety of hydraulic architectures and the investment of the entire project. To discuss the rationality of the designed reinforcement scheme for spillway of Goushuipo Reservoir in China, this paper employed the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods, Volume of Fluid (VOF) model and Re-Normalization Group (RNG) model to simulate the water surface line of spillway under different verified flood standard conditions based on the measured data of water surface line of spillway of the Goushuipo Reservoir. By comparing with the test values, it’s verified that the simulation results are of high accuracy; then on this basis, this paper analyzed the relationship between water level and water flow of spillway under different conditions and other hydraulic performance such as the water flow state. Moreover, according to the simulation results, this paper analyzed the problems with the original design scheme and further proposed an optimized scheme: the two-step water-drop energy dissipation scheme for the Goushuipo Reservoir, and performed numerical simulation on the optimized scheme. At last, the simulation results proved the rationality of the optimized scheme, and the research findings of this paper provide useful references for the reinforcement project of the target reservoir in the future. The Xiaolangdi Dam is a key project for the control and development of the Yellow River. It bears the functions of flood control, controlling water and sediment in the lower reaches, ice prevention, industrial and agricultural water supply, power generation, and so on. Its safety is related to people's life and property safety and local economic and social development. It is of great significance to carry out comprehensive and regular deformation monitoring for dams since the deformation is an important evaluation index for dam safety. Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technology has been a rapidly evolving technology in the field of space geodesy in recent years. It offers advantages such as high monitoring precision, extensive coverage, and high monitoring point density, making it a powerful tool for monitoring deformations in hydraulic engineering projects. Based on Sentinel-1 data covering the Xiaolangdi Dam from September 2020 to November 2022, the PS-InSAR technique was used to obtain the surface deformation of the Xiaolangdi Dam, and reservoir water level data on image acquisition dates were obtained for joint analysis. The results show that there is a large deformation in the center of the dam crest of the Xiaolangdi Dam, while both sides of the slope and downstream dam foot are relatively stable. The time series deformation of the dam body is closely related to the reservoir water level change. When the water level increases, the dam body tends to deform downstream; when the water level decreases, the dam body tends to deform upstream. The deformation and water level of the Xiaolangdi Dam exhibit a clear negative correlation. There is no significant cumulative deformation on the dam slopes or at the base of the dam. However, cumulative deformation occurs over time in the central area of the dam's crest. The deformation process at the central area of the dam's crest follows a continuous and non-disruptive pattern, which is consistent with the typical deformation behavior of the Xiaolangdi earth–rock dam structure. Therefore, it is judged that the current deformation of the Xiaolangdi Dam does not impact the safe operation of the dam. InSAR technology enables the rapid acquisition of high-precision, high-density deformation information on the surfaces of reservoir dams. With an increasing number of radar satellites in various frequency bands, such as Sentinel-1 and TerraSAR-X, there is now an ample supply of available data sources for InSAR applications. Consequently, InSAR technology can be extended to routine monitoring applications for reservoir dam deformations, especially for small and medium-sized reservoirs that may not be equipped with ground measurement tools like GNSS. An accurate understanding of the relationship between reservoir construction and the dynamic change of groundwater level in downstream areas is of great significance for rational development and utilization of water resources. At present, the research on the interaction between surface water (SW) and groundwater (GW) mainly focuses on the interaction between river and GW. There are few studies on the impact of the reservoir construction on GW level in downstream loess irrigation area. Rainfall, evaporation and climate temperature have a great impact on W level, but the impact of reservoir construction on the GW level should not be ignored in the utilization of water resources. In this paper, a GW flow model under a natural boundary was established by numerical simulation. Taking Heihe Jinpen Reservoir in Heihe River watershed as the research object, the influence of the construction of a mountain reservoir on the dynamic change of GW level in the downstream loess region is studied. By comparing the GW level under the natural state without reservoir construction and the measured GW level after the reservoir was built, the variation of the GW depth in the loess area of the lower reaches in the Heihe River watershed is obtained. The results show that simulation accuracy of the interaction between SW and GW was reasonable; after the Heihe Jinpen Reservoir construction, the mean GW level decrease was about 6.05 m in the downstream loess irrigation area in Guanzhong Basin. It provides a method for the simulation and prediction of SW–GW conversion laws. Using the test–retest data of the relative gravity field and earthquake monitoring catalog of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) from October 2001 to October 2009, this paper systematically analyzes the changes in the gravity field in the head area of the reservoir and the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of seismic activity during the impoundment process. It also employs the surrogate reshuffling tests to calculate the cross-correlation between the reservoir water level and the seismic activity sequence and discusses the influence of the rising reservoir water level on the gravity field and seismic activity in the reservoir region. Then, by constructing a three-dimensional finite-difference model based on the theory of fluid–solid coupling, the mechanism of reservoir-induced earthquakes is discussed from the aspects of direct reservoir water load and reservoir water infiltration. The results show that: (1) The rising reservoir water level has had a critical impact on the gravity field and seismic activity in the reservoir's head area. The cumulative changes in the gravity field from October 2001 to November 2008 show that water impounding has led to a huge banded positive anomaly of gravity along the river near Xiangxi, which reached 450 × 10−8 ms−2. The seismicity activity dominated by micro-earthquakes after a 135 m water level rose rapidly, and the monthly average earthquake frequency increased from 2.00 before the impoundment to 92.60 after the 175 m stage. (2) From the beginning of the impoundment to the experimental impoundment stage of 175 m, the time series correlation test result between the monthly frequency of earthquakes and the water level of the reservoir also changed from uncorrelated before the water storage to correlated when the time lag was 0 months at a 95% confidence threshold. This indicates that the seismic activity obviously has a direct relationship with the load pressure produced by the rapid rise of the reservoir water level, which causes the instability of the mines, karst caves, shallow rock strata, and faults within 10 km along the river and near the reservoir bank, and consequently induces earthquakes. (3) As the TGR enters the 175 m high-level operation stage, the cross-correlation test confirmed that the seismic activity and the reservoir water level show negative correlation characteristics under the time lag of 4 to 5 months, indicating that the seismic activity has a lagging response to the reservoir water level change. The continued infiltration of the reservoir water, followed by the softening of the faults and other actions, triggered the Xiangxi M4.1 earthquake at the center of the four quadrants of gravity anomalies near Xiangxi on 22 November 2008. The Xiangxi segment of the reservoir and its periphery, a triangular geological region where the Xiannvshan faults, the Jiuwanxi fault, and the Yangtze River meet, might be at risk of having reservoir-induced tectonic earthquakes. Prediction model plays an important role in the early warning of reservoir landslides. This paper proposes a novel synthetic prediction model, the Bayesian optimized random forest-combined Kalman filter (BORF-KF) in which the Kalman filter and random forest algorithm are used to predict the trend and periodic displacements of the cumulative landslide displacement, respectively. To improve the accuracy of the model, the Bayesian algorithm is used to optimize the parameters, and periodic changes of rainfall and reservoir water level are considered. The applicability, efficiency, and accuracy of the proposed prediction model is successfully verified against monitoring time series obtained from the Outang landslide, a giant resurrected ancient landslide in the Three Gorges reservoir of China. The results show the ground deformation of the reservoir landslide exhibits notable step-like characteristics, which has strong correlation with the concentrated rainfall and the decrease of the reservoir water level. Moreover, predicted cumulative displacement error is less than 2%, suggesting the BORF-KF model attains a high prediction accuracy and can be applied to the prediction of reservoir landslides with abrupt step-like sections. Promoting the green efficiency of agricultural water resources is of great significance to alleviate the contradiction between supply and demand of water resources, improve the quality of regional water environment and ensure the sustainable development of agriculture. Based on the directional distance function, the evaluation model of agricultural water resources green efficiency including unexpected pollution of non-point source output is constructed, and the spatio-temporal characteristics and driving contribution of efficiency results of 31 provinces in mainland China from 2003 to 2018 is calculated. Then fixed effect regression method is used to test the influencing factors of the green efficiency of agricultural water resources in China. The results show that: firstly, during the study period, the green efficiency of agricultural water resources in China has experienced three stages: fluctuating decline, rapid rise and rising convergence. The efficiency level of most provinces has been increased, and inter-provincial differences have been narrowed. Secondly, technological progress is the main contribution source of the variety of the green efficiency of agricultural water resources, while the driving contribution of technical efficiency variety to the change of efficiency is minor. Thirdly, supply pressure of water resources and construction level of water conservancy have significant positive correlation with the green efficiency of agricultural water resources, while the increase in water resources demand level, strength of government control and the proportion of water consuming crops in agricultural production system have inhibit the improvement of efficiency level. Based on this, the paper discusses the ways to improve the green efficiency of agricultural water resources from three aspects: simultaneously expanding the contribution of technological progress and technical efficiency, coordinating the use of market mechanism and government regulation means and improving the level of irrigation, water conservancy construction and strengthen government control. Isatis indigotica planting is the backbone of the medicinal industry in Hexi Oasis, Gansu. In order to solve the problems insufficient water resources and excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer in this area, this paper explored the irrigation and nitrogen levels that can meet the multiple goals of Isatis indigotica. The two-factor split-plot field experiment (2018‒2019) was conducted in Minle County, Gansu Province, China, which contains 9 treatments. There were three levels of irrigation water: W1(low), W2(medium), and W3(high). The soil moisture contents were 60–70%, 70–80%, and 80–90% of the field water-holding capacity, respectively. The nitrogen application rate was classified into three levels, N1(low), N2(medium) and N3(high), which were 150, 200 and 250 kg N/ha, respectively. The standard local irrigation water amount and nitrogen application rate corresponded to W3N3. The results showed that the yield of Isatis indigotica increased first and then decreased with the increase of irrigation amount and nitrogen application rate, the yield of W2N2 is 12.2–17.1% higher than that of W1N1, the yield of W3N3 was 12.1–17.5% lower than that of W2N2. Saving water and reducing nitrogen can improve the quality of Isatis indigotica, compared with W3N3, the indigo, indirubin, (R,S)-epigoitrin and polysaccharides of W2N2 increased by 4.5–5.9%, 2.7–3.1%, 5.2–6.0%, and 1.8–2.1%, respectively. With the increase of nitrogen application rate, the water use efficiency (WUE) first increased and then decreased, as the irrigation volume increases, WUE decreases. Compared with W3N3, the WUE of W2N2 increased by 24.3–27.2%. With the increase of water input, the nitrogen fertilizer use efficiency (NUE) first increased and then decreased, as the nitrogen application rate increases, NUE decreases. Compared with W3N3, the NUE of W2W2 increased by 31.8–34.5%. Therefore, W2N2 can improve quality and increase water and nitrogen utilization efficiency on the basis of ensuring yield. Bank slopes with huge accumulative sliding masses in a reservoir area suffer from landslide risks subjected to reservoir water fluctuations, and slope-cutting is an effective measure for the slope reinforcement. In this paper, a suitably and practicably integrated approach was put forward to the optimization design of the slope-cutting measure on the Shiliushubao landslide in Three Gorges Reservoir, China. It includes the determination of the most unfavorable reservoir water level variation condition according to the Three Gorges operation process, the mainly slope-cutting parts based on calculated residual sliding force curves, the main controlling factors of slope-cutting and their optimization ranges. The optimization analysis of the slope-cutting scheme for the Shiliushubao landslide was performed by taking advantage of the uniform design, transfer coefficient method, GA and ANN. The optimized layout of slope-cutting measure for Shiliushubao landslide after optimization study was to set the three main controlling factors of slope-cutting as i1 = 2.11, xb = 279.6 m and i2 = 2.01, which satisfied the objectives of both economy and landslide stability. This paper presents an improved slope stability sensitivity analysis (ISSSA) model that takes anchoring factors into consideration in umbrella-anchored sand and clay slopes under reservoir water level fluctuation. The results of the ISSSA model show that the slope inclination and the layout density of anchors are the main controlling factors for sand slope stability under fluctuation of the water level, while the slope inclination and water head height are the main controlling factors for slope stability in the Cangjiang bridge—Yingpan slope of Yunnan province in China. Moreover, there is an optimum anchorage angle, in the range of 25–45 degrees, which has the greatest influence on slope stability. The fluctuation of the reservoir water level is an important factor that triggers slope instability; in particular, a sudden drop in the surface water level can easily lead to landslides; therefore, corresponding measures should be implemented in a timely manner in order to mitigate landslide disasters. Optimal operation of hydropower reservoir systems is a classical optimization problem of high dimensionality and stochastic nature. A key challenge lies in improving the interpretability of operation strategies, i.e., the cause–effect relationship between system outputs (or actions) and contributing variables such as states and inputs. This paper reports for the first time a new deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework for optimal operation of reservoir systems based on deep Q-networks (DQNs), which provides a significant advance in understanding the performance of optimal operations. DQN combines Q-learning and two deep artificial neural networks (ANNs), and acts as the agent to interact with the reservoir system through learning its states and providing actions. Three knowledge forms of learning considering the states, actions, and rewards were constructed to improve the interpretability of operation strategies. The impacts of these knowledge forms and DRL learning parameters on operation performance were analyzed. The DRL framework was tested on the Huanren hydropower system in China, using 400-year synthetic flow data for training and 30-year observed flow data for verification. The discretization levels of reservoir water level and energy output yield contrasting effects: finer discretization of water level improved performance in terms of annual hydropower generated and hydropower production reliability; however, finer discretization of hydropower production can reduce search efficiency, and thus the resulting DRL performance. Compared with benchmark algorithms including dynamic programming, stochastic dynamic programming, and decision tree, the proposed DRL approach can effectively factor in future inflow uncertainties when determining optimal operations and can generate markedly higher hydropower. This study provides new knowledge of the performance of DRL in the context of hydropower system characteristics and data input features, and shows promise for potentially being implemented in practice to derive operation policies that can be updated automatically by learning from new data. This paper presents a typical 450 m high rock slope in a highly jointed and fractured rock mass at Pubugou (PBG) hydropower station on the Dadu River. We established a set of multiphase field geological survey combined with GPS, inclinometers, and piezometer monitoring system to analyze the deformation and failure mechanism of rock slope. The results show that small-scale excavation in road construction disrupted the balance of the Pubugou rock slope (PBGRS), and several local retrogressive failures occurred at the toe. Monitoring data regarding surface and subsurface movements show that the PBGRS is stable as a whole. The deformation concentrated mainly in the loosened fractured zone, which was a feature with sliding-compression cracking. Highly loosened rock mass was the predominant factor affecting the stability of the PBGRS, while the role of reservoir water level fluctuation, though positive, was not significant. Overall, the PBGRS still has a high potential for further development, especially in the slope's upper zone. To reinforce the slope, measurements mainly consist of the concrete frame combined with anchor cables constructed on the slope. In this study, the analysis was carried out of pre- and postreinforcement measure slope stability with numerical simulation, and safety factor increased from 1.09 to 1.21. Drawdown of reservoir water level is unfavorable to the bank slope stability due to the large seepage force. In this paper, the siphon drainage method is proposed to decrease the water table as well as the seepage force in the bank slope. The novelty of the siphon drainage used in the bank slope is that it will automatically start working when the drawdown of the reservoir water level occurs. To validate the feasibility of the proposed method, a numerical method which combines GeoStudio and spreadsheet is used to investigate the pore water pressure distribution and evaluate the safety of the bank slope. The "air element method" is adopted in GeoStudio to simulate siphon drains. Chen-Morgenstern generalized equations are modified to consider the hydrostatic force of reservoir water and the suction strength of unsaturated soil. The modified equations are then incorporated in the spreadsheet to calculate the FOS of the bank slopes with siphon drains. The proposed method is illustrated and validated with the Shuping landslide, China. The advantages of the siphon drains are also discussed by comparing with traditional horizontal drains. A large number of subsided wetlands have formed in eastern China in areas with high-intensity mining. However, data are not currently available to indicate their spatial distribution and expansion in the past thirty years. This paper uses a modified normalized difference water index (mNDWI) and a maximum between-cluster variance (OTSU) image segmentation algorithm to extract the subsided wetlands in mining areas with high ground-water levels of eastern China from 1988 to 2018 based on Google Earth Engine. The results show that the overall accuracy of the extraction of subsided wetlands is 98%; the Kappa coefficient reached 0.81. The total area of subsided wetland in 2018 was 26,034.88 ha, of which 14,290.97 ha was in Anhui Province, accounting for 54.89% of all such wetlands. The spatial extent of subsided wetlands has grown rapidly in the past three decades with the area of subsided wetlands expanding by 11.86 times from 1988 to 2018. The total area of subsided wetlands in the winter of 2018 was 25,296.25 ha, which was smaller than in summer. This indicates that seasonal precipitation affects the spatial extent of subsided wetlands. Although some restoration activities have been successful, most of the subsided wetlands still need active development and management. In conclusion, mNDWI and OTSU image segmentation algorithms could quickly and accurately allow the extraction of the spatial extent of subsided wetlands. Subsided wetlands have strong potential for development in future ecological restoration. The complementary operation of cascade hydropower (CHP) and photovoltaic (PV) can increase the integration of PV power and has become a trend in modern power systems. However, the randomness and variability of PV power output might cause challenges in precisely tracking the submitted generation plan of the CHP-PV complementary system. The safety and stability of the receiving-end power grid might deteriorate. In this paper, a multi-time scale dispatch framework with day-ahead and intra-day dispatch is established for the CHP-PV complementary system to address the PV uncertainties. The day-ahead dispatch is employed to provide reliable reference results and sufficient adjustment reservations for the intra-day dispatch. An Itô-theory-based stochastic optimization (ITB-SO) approach is proposed for the intra-day dispatch by modeling the PV prediction error with stochastic differential equations (SDE). The SDE model can be embedded into the ITB-SO approach without scenario generation, and thus computational burden can be significantly reduced compared with scenario-based methods. A complementary system in southwest China is chosen as a detailed case study. The simulation results demonstrate that real-time random PV fluctuations could be compensated by adjusting CHPs. Meanwhile, the target water level of cascade reservoirs can be tracked under the proposed approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Water conservancy personnel usually need to know the water level by water gauge images in real-time and with an expected accuracy. However, accurately recognizing the water level from water gauge images is still a complex problem. This article proposes a composite method applied in the Wuyuan City, Jiangxi Province, in China. This method can detect water gauge areas and number areas from complex and changeable scenes, accurately detect the water level line from various water gauges, and finally, obtain the accurate water level value. Firstly, FCOS is improved by fusing a contextual adjustment module to meet the requirements of edge computing and ensure considerable detection accuracy. Secondly, to deal with scenes with indistinct water level features, we also apply the contextual adjustment module for Deeplabv3+ to segment the water gauge area above the water surface. Then, the area can be used to obtain the position of the water level line. Finally, the results of the previous two steps are combined to calculate the water level value. Detailed experiments prove that this method solves the problem of water level recognition in complex hydrological scenes. Furthermore, the recognition error of the water level by this method is less than 1 cm, proving it is capable of being applied in real river scenes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The overall aim of this paper is to attempt to discover the true facts in order to ascertain whether or not there is a water crisis in China, and if there is, to identify the responses of the different stakeholders—government water officials, community leaders and farmers. In order to achieve this goal, several specific objectives are pursued. First, the paper evaluates the status of China's groundwater economy, examining whether or not the groundwater table is systematically falling. Second, in the parts of China that face a water crisis (or potential crisis), the paper documents the regulations and policies that the government—both local and regional—have implemented and discusses whether they have been successfully implemented. Third, it describes how farmers have responded to the water crisis and tries to assess whether or not their roles have helped alleviate the water scarcities or exacerbated the crisis. To meet these objectives, two large field surveys are used that cover seven provinces in northern China. The findings demonstrate that, although the water table is not falling everywhere in northern China, there are still a substantial number of communities that appear to be facing a water crisis. When there is a water crisis, the data show that the government in China has begun to make a number of policy responses, but the implementation is not always effective. Where water is becoming scarce, farmers and community leaders have also responded in numerous ways. However, farmers do not necessarily respond in ways that effectively save water, mostly because they do not always have incentives to do so. With good incentives, the research shows that they do save water. Hence, the government cannot ignore the way that farmers respond. Indeed, good policy needs to use this responsiveness to reduce the adverse effects of water scarcities and encourage conservation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
