Abstract: As a Major in the US Army Medical Corps, Darrell A. Campbell, MD, led Team 13 of the Third Auxiliary Surgical Group in Europe in World War II. The team began work on June 7, 1944, in a clearing station tent near the beach at Normandy. Subsequently, over the next 7 months, it was assigned to mobile hospitals in 15 different locations in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. Major Campbell kept the log books used to record all of the operations done by his team during this time and brought them home where three were discovered more than 70 years later. These log books contain descriptions of more than 500 consecutive operations done by Team 13. They provide a unique insight into the activities of the surgeons who worked to save lives on the front lines of battle in the European Theater of Operations between June and December 1944 and form the basis for this historical perspective.This is an article on the history of surgery., (Copyright © 2021 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. During the Great Patriotic war (1941-1945) medical supply experts of the 320th Central warehouse sanitary solved complex problems for the regular and complete provision with medical property guide action by the army, the formation of complete basic equipment, service of medical transport and medical equipment. Special subdivision governed by the head of child care institutions of the hospital was formed for managing child care institutions.

Authors present the article historical data on the foundation and development of surgical service at the 1st Therapeutic Red Cross Hospital (Central Military Hospital of People's Commissariat. of Defense) since its organization. The structure of the hospital surgical service and organization of surgical activity during the pre-war years is presented. Provided information about outstanding surgeons who was working in the hospital.

Prussian offensive operation performed by the 2nd Belorussian Front. An activity of the medical An activity of the medical service of the 65th Army during the East Prussian offensive operation performed by the 2nd Belorussian Front is a typical example of the medical support of troops during the final stages of World War II. Forms and methods of medical support management, which were developed during the war, haven't lost their importance in modern conditions. These methods include the establishment of specialized surgical and therapeutic field hospital, establishment of medical institutions in the Army, which worked on the evacuation directions and reserve of mobile hospitals and transport, timely extension of the first echelons of the hospital base front to change institutions hospital deployed the army base. A research of experience in organizing medical support of the offensive operations performed during the last year of World War II provides the material for the development of the theory of modern medical support operations and ability to provide on this basis, the continuity of the hospitals, the continuity of qualified and specialized medical care, improve the performance of diagnostic and treatment work.

The article is devoted to activity of the Central Military Hospital of the People's Commissariat for Defence during the Great Patriotic War. The research is based on declassified orders of PCD and orders of the chef of hospital. Authors presented the role of the hospital in organization of medical aid for officers of PCD, members of their families, Red Army soldiers, junior and senior Red Army commanders; the role of the hospital in organization of medical facilities for combat army; medical supply for evacuation of family members of PCD's officers ( en route and in evacuation places); delivery of child health care to children of officers of PCD in the hospital and education in kindergartens of PCD.

The article investigates reasons of increase of labour-saving innovations and inventions made by physicians during the great patriotic war. It is proved that suggestions made during the analyzed period (1942) showed no much novelty and originality. From the article it follows that soviet physicians at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War had no proper knowledge about military surgery.

During the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 Sochi was turned into the largest hospital base in the south of the USSR. All told, 335 thousand wonded and seriously ill soldiers were treated in the hospitals of Sochi. During the war physicians applied many new, including, early unknown medical methods of treatment. Poor provision with medical equipment, instruments, bandages and medicines was made up for using of local resources. Adoption of new treatment methods based on the use of local medicines allowed the Sochi's physicians to save many lives during the war.

History of the Volgograd military hospital dates back to July 24, 1941, when on the basis of the regional children's bone tuberculosis sanatorium in Krasnodar was transformed into 2150th military hospital consisted of 240 beds. Since May 1944 relocated in the city of Stalingrad became a garrison hospital. Today the hospital is a multidisciplinary health centre of the Russian Defense Ministry. Annually, the hospital performed at least 3000 surgical procedures, including more than 37%--are complex. In surgery, improved endovideosurgical direction, over 31% of emergency operations performed using this method. Since December 2009 the hospital became a structural division of the District Hospital in 1602 in Rostov on Don. The close connection between the branch and district hospital allows for complex diagnostic situations to consult leading experts, including consultation, thus ensuring the most effective treatment results.

Covered and analyzed the state of medical support during the Battle for Moscow. The problems of organizing of medical support for troops during all stages of this war--defensive operations and counter-offensive strategic operations are considered. Analyzed errors and mistakes made in the course of medical support of combat operations of the fronts that participated in the battle for Moscow. The article traces the solutions of the problems encountered and assess the results of translating these decisions into practice. Particular attention is paid to problems of organization of work as a hospital base fronts and armies, and the medical units and divisional managers, as well as management of medical service, evacuate the wounded and sick, the dynamics of formation of the provision of specialized medical care and anti security forces.

During the Great Patriotic War in Kirov Red Army soldiers provided specialized psychiatric care. 24 June 1942 on the basis of evacohospital N 1322 was organized by the psychiatric ward. This department carries out all necessary psychiatric care until November 1945.

This is the second extract taken from the War Diaries of Brigadier JG Morgan CBE TD MD and is specifically taken from papers he used to prepare a talk for a Civil Defence Audience in the 1950's. Having introduced a system of filtering in Tripoli in 1943 when in command of 48th General Hospital, he was specifically appointed to oversee the medical arrangements for the Battle of Cassino and was awarded the CBE for his work which is outlined below. It has been prepared from the original documents and edited by his sons.

The article presents the observe of contribution of medicine in victory of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). Main attention was paid to organization of carry-over of wounded person from battle-field and delivery of health care. There was created a sharp system of medical securing of combat actions of troops on the base of principle of stage treatment of ill and wounded persons, in combination with their evacuation in corresponding places. The end treatment was laid on a large net of specialized medical institutes, evacuation hospitals of People's Committee of Health care of USSR. A great value had the organization of controepidemic work. Thanks to feat of military physicians, activity of civil health care and international help in organization of treatment of ill and wounded persons there was returned in order 17 157 243 persons.

Was characterized activity of the Central Military Clinical Hospital by Burdenko N.N. during the Great Patriotic War. From the first days work of the hospital was reorganized in dependence of needs of war time. More then 50% of physicians went in army, leading specialists were established main surgeons and therapeutics of fronts and armies. During the war efforts of collective were aimed on the main purpose--return life and health to the biggest number of patients, and the hospital pulled off this mission. During the war were treated more then 74 000 of ill and wounded persons, 82% of them were returned in troops.

There was marked work of dental unit of the Main military hospital during the Great Patriotic War, including during evacuation in Gor'ky. Insertion of modern methods of immobilization of fragments of jaws and well organized succession to 1944 permitted to decrease the quantity of operations of traumatic osteomyelitis and increase the quantity of plastic operations. Owing to using of new materials (stainless steel, plastics) and to insertion of antibiotics, the period after 1946 is characterized by increased capabilities of effectuating of plastic operations and treatment of jaw breakups.

This study is an investigation of the contributions of women's military bands in the United States to the reconditioning of the injured American troops during World War II. Primary and secondary sources revealed that these bands welcomed home hospital ships, performed for convalescing soldiers in hospitals, and provided music for hospital dances. While each of the bands investigated served in similar capacities, only one, the 403rd Women's Army Corps (WAC) Band, was stationed at a hospital. While entertainment by women's bands was an important part of the Army Reconditioning Program for the injured, the study also revealed a working partnership that developed between these musicians and the medical community. Sixty years after the war, band members believe their performances in hospitals were the most important contribution of their service. Some historians have concluded that music used in military hospitals during the war was the impetus for the music therapy profession.
