The hydrothermal reaction of ZnSO4 with 2,5-di(1H-imidazol-4-yl)thiophene (L) at 100°C yields a new complex [Zn(L)(SO4)]n (1). Complex 1 has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c with Z=4, and shows a (44.62) network structure. Complex 1 shows fluorescence. The hydrothermal reaction of N3,N5-di(pyridin-4-yl)pyridine-3,5-dicarboxamide (L) with Co(NO3)2·6H2O and ErCl3·6H2O yields a new complex, {[Co(L)2(NO3)1.15(Cl)0.85]·4DMF}n (1). The hydrothermal reaction of 5,5′-[(pyridine-3,5-dicarbonyl)bis(azanediyl)]diisophthalic acid (H4L) with a Co(II) salt yields the new complex: [Co3(HL)2(H2O)4] ( 1), which has been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, and elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. Reactions of cadmium(II) with 5-(4-carboxybenzylamino)isophthalic acid (H3L) in the presence of 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole (pybim) and 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) by hydrothermal method lead to two complexes, [Cd(HL)(pybim)]·H2O (1) and [Cd2(L)(HCOO)(bpy)2(H2O)]·H2O (2). Co(II) salts react with 5-(1H-benzotriazol-1-ylmethyl)isophthalic acid (H2L) under hydrothermal conditions to yield [Co(L)(py)(H2O)] (1) and [Co(L)] (2) [py = pyridine], which have been characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, Infrared, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis. Abstract: Co(II) and Zn(II) complexes based on 1-(5-tetrazolyl)-4-(1-imidazolyl)benzene (HL) and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2pbda): [Co2(L)2(pbda)(H2O)3] (1) and [Zn(L)(pbda)0.5] (2) have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, IR, and thermogravimetric analysis. Complex 1 exhibits binodal (3,5)-connected 2D net structure with (3.52)(32.53.64.7) topology; while 2 is a binodal (3,4)-connected 2-fold interpenetrating 3D framework with dmc (4.82)(4.85) topology. The influence of coordination geometries of metal centers on the structures of resultant complexes is discussed. Moreover, magnetic property of 1 and luminescence of 2 were investigated. The reactions of 2,6-di(2-oxazolyl)pyridine (L 1 ) and 2,6-bis[(S)-4-phenyl-2-oxazolyl]pyridine (L 2 ) with silver, copper and palladium salts to yield six new complexes: {[Ag 5 (L 1 ) 5 ](BF 4 ) 5 } n ( 1 ), {[Ag(L 1 )](SbF 6 )} n ( 2 ), [Cu 4 I 4 (L 1 ) 2 ] ( 3 ), [Cu 6 I 6 (L 1 ) 2 ] ( 4 ), [Pd(L′ 1 )(OAc)] ( 5 ), [Pd(L′ 2 )Cl] ( 6 ), which were fully characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, IR, elemental and thermogravimetric analyses. 1 and 2 are a pair of Ag-oxazoline helical chain structure complexes. The spiral directions of chains are opposite in 1 , while identical in 2 ; the measurement of CD spectra can further confirm their meso and chiral structures. Complexes 3 and 4 show eight-nuclear and twelve-nuclear iodine–cuprous cluster structure. Their structural diversity is induced by different molar ratios of CuI:L 1 . Complexes 5 and 6 are discrete mononuclear palladium complexes. In situ oxazolyl-ring-opening reactions take place in the syntheses of them and the L 1 and the L 2 were transformed to their oxazolyl-ring opened derivatives L′ 1 and L′ 2 .
