Abstract

The article presents a study regarding the impact of primary traditional deer management techniques such as culling and fencing on Ixodes ricinus (I. ricinus) abundance. The study has used small-scale fencing experiments to compare deer abundance and questing tick abundance indices and surveyed the forestry and adjacent open moorland in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Results showed that fencing and reducing deer density were linked with higher ground vegetation and can help reduce parasites.
