This study aimed to describe the psychiatric nursing care experiences of immigrant patients. The incidence of mental health problems is higher and the use of mental health services is lower among immigrants, especially refugees, compared with the majority of the population. The study uses a qualitative research approach, with an emphasis on focused ethnography research methods. The participants were immigrant patients (N = 14) residing in adult psychiatric wards of certain hospitals (N = 3) selected for the study. A majority of the participants were refugees or asylum seekers. A total of 21 in‐depth interviews were conducted. The experiences of these immigrant patients, both in their home countries and in their country of residence, had had an adverse effect on their mental health, with past traumatic experiences being the most central factor. Their symptoms included depression, anxiety, somatization, and psychosis. The findings show that the categories of factors that helped promote recovery among immigrant patients were nursing, medical treatment, care environment, and the patients' own methods. Based on the findings, a systematic evaluation of traumatic experiences is recommended for immigrants from countries with a history of war and/or political violence. Objective: Female genital mutilation covers all procedures that, intentionally and for non-medical reasons, alter or damage, partially or totally, the female genital organs whether for cultural or religious reasons. It is estimated that between 100 and 140 million girls and women around the world have suffered one of the first three types of female genital mutilation. "In Europe, it affects approximately 500,000 girls, and in countries such as Spain, around 17,000 girls are at risk of suffering from this practice. The main objective of the study is to describe the female genital mutilation/jadare from the perspective of the Fulbe culture, in order to provide strategic measures, which help the health professional to carry out an appropriate intervention. A case study has been carried out. The data were obtained from the semi-structured interviews conducted with 5 subjects of the Fulbe culture, three women and two men; of informal conversations and thorough observation of the participants. Currently, in fulbe culture, traditions such as FGM are common practices that they maintain despite their prohibition. Within the Fula community, Jadare is the term used to refer to those activities carried out as a process of initiation into adulthood for girls, before their first menstruation and subsequent marriage. The meaning of this day within the Fulbe culture differs substantially from the meaning that in Spain and other European countries attribute to FGM. After carrying out an exhaustive observation and several interviews, we can confirm that female genital mutilation is a practice implemented within the Fulbe culture by tradition "Co Fina Tauwa". This research was conducted to identify the acculturation and health behaviors in the African Immigrant population, which is presently living in the United States. Ten studies met the criteria and included health behaviors of status, access to health care, psychiatric services, prostate cancer, morbidity and mortality, HIV knowledge and beliefs, perceptions of suicide, smoking, and obesity. Acculturation was measured using the most common social constructs that influenced the health behaviors of nativity, English (language proficiency), age at immigration, education and socioeconomic status, religion, age at immigration, and length of stay in the U.S. More research is needed to assist in prioritizing the health conditions that need intervention in serving this particular population. Aim To synthesize knowledge, attitudes and experiences of health professionals about Female Genital Mutilation. Background Despite the World Health Organization campaigning to stop FGM, and it being illegal in many countries, the practice remains common in some countries and cultures. Migration has contributed to the growth of this practice in countries where it was not previously carried out. Design Mixed-method synthesis. Data sources Search of ten electronic databases: 2006-2014. Manual scanning of reference lists and summary feeds from international organizations such as WHO, UN and UNICEF. Review methods Thematic synthesis comparing country of origin where the practice was common with country of residence where migrant women affected by the practice reside. 17 included descriptive, quantitative, qualitative studies and grey literature studies in English or Spanish. Results Seven themes were developed: Ignorance of FGM practice and its consequences; Lack of adherence to FGM protocols and guidelines; Socially constructed acceptance of FGM; Ignorance of legislation and legal status of FGM; Condoning, sanctioning or supporting FGM; Lack of information and training; Nurses and Midwives as key to protecting and supporting girls and women Conclusions Although some nurses and midwives are in the forefront of eradicating FGM this is counterbalanced by health professionals (including nurses and midwives) who condone, sanction or support the practice with some calling for medicalization of FGM as a legitimate procedure. Girls at risk need better protection and women affected need more competent and cultural care from health professionals. Health and legal systems, professional regulation and governance, and professional training require strengthening to eradicate FGM, prevent the medicalization of FGM as an acceptable procedure, and to better manage the lifelong consequences for affected girls and women. Departing from the widespread idea of the need of intercultural mediators in the sanitary world as the solution to the derivative difficulties of working with persons of other cultures, this work has as aim demonstrate that the necessary thing is that the professionals of nursing we form ourselves to realize taken care culturally competent. There are analyzed certain premises without which they cannot be realized taken care competent. The fundamental thing is to have a constructive attitude towards the cultural differences and sensibility towards the persons of other cultures. Also it is necessary increase the knowledge on other cultures. By it values and beliefs are described in relation to health and disease in sub- Saharan population. This article reflects on the relationship between ethnonursing and African economic development. It ponders on the entity that will determine where and how international economic aid is going. It argues that many of the global donors know little of the cultural context of the developing countries in Africa.
