The article reports on Ciena Corp.'s collaboration with the LION2 consortium for the second phase of the Lower Indian Ocean Network (LION) submarine cable project in Africa. Ciena's intelligent optical switching solution will be used to deliver broadband connectivity on the route between Kenya and the island of Mayotte in the Mozambique Channel, Madagascar, Reunion and Mauritius. The optical switching solution has been deployed in all five landing stations of the cable system.
